Upgrade from 4.2 directly to 4.5

Hello, I would like to know if I can do an oVirt upgrade directly from 4.2 to 4.5. I don’t have a free host to upgrade the oVirt Node, so I was hoping that would be possible to fire up a new engine (with restore-backup) on the old oVirt Nodes and later on upgrade the hosts. Is this possible? Thank you.

gluster service on the cluster is unchecked on hci cluster

Hi, I would like to change CPU Type in my oVirt 4.4.10 HCI cluster (based on 3 glusterfs/virt hosts). When I try to I got this error Error while executing action: Cannot disable gluster service on the cluster as it contains volumes. As I remember I had Gluster Service enabled on this cluster but now both (Enable Virt Services and Enable Gluster Service) checkboxes are grayed out and Gluster Service is unchecked. Also Storage / Volumes displays my volumes... well, displays one brick on particular host in unknown state (? mark) which is new situation. As I can see from command line all bricks are online, no healing in progress, all looks good... I am not sure if the second issue is relevant to first one so main question is how can I (re)enable gluster service in my cluster? Thanks in advance, Jiri

VM access to infiniband network

Hi all, i am facing a problem while trying to associate a Mellanox infiniband interface to a network and using it for VM traffic. vdsm log shows the following message: The bridge <bridge name> cannot use IP over InfiniBand interface <interface name> as port. Please use RoCE interface instead. Did anybody face the same problem and solve it? Actually ib interface is configured with an ip address and we are mounting NFS filesystems on cluster nodes through infiniband network.

How to set static IP when creating VM?

Hi, all. I've used cockpit-machine, qemu-kvm for 2 years for my services, and I tried to use ovirt for a month. I've use virt-edit to configure ifcfg-eth0 for static IP as my company does not allow DHCP. I've use virt-customize to set default root password. How can I set static IP and root password when creating VM? Currently, I use virt-edit, virt-customize after I set saslpasswd2 on image files of oVirt, and it seems not best practice. Best Regards. cluster compatibility version 4.7

Hello When we try to complete the upgrade to 4.5.1 there is a failure to upgrade the cluster to compatibly version 4.7 Cannot update compatibility version of Vm/Template: [HostedEngine], Message: There was an attempt to change Hosted Engine VM values that are locked. Also somehow the cluster had changed to Cluster Node Type of Virt only but there was an error due to started volumes when trying to change the Cluster from the WebUI. Hallo, looking for some hint where one can change the guest network name (not with udev rules) but rather is there somewhere a code in ovirt/libvirt? We have one from scratch installed ovirt engine (4.4.10.4-1.el8), where all guests have enp*s* network name, all others engines (like 13 upgraded recently from 4.3.10 to 4.4.10) have ens* network name. Gluster install works, hosted engine fails with "no valid network interface has ben found" I have a three node hyperconverged cluster that had previously been running oVirt 4.4 successfully. vm backup, vprotect, user permissions

Hi, I would like to ask about thepermission for ht e vPortect to backup the VMs. We have got 4 hypervisors in 1 DC for production and use admin account for backup. Recently we added 3 more hypervisors for TEST/DEV. These new hypervisors are in separate DC. As the vProtect got licence only for 4 hosts, we would like to create new user for taking backup only for the production DC. We added vprotect user. Add the DatacenterAdmin toe that users only for production DC, but this do not works, the problems are - the vprotect user see all hosts ;( - the backup are not able to finish, seems that some permission is still missing Does anyone let me help with such a setup? regards Peter

ONN upgrade failing due to /var/cache/dnf filling up

I'm just wondering if anyone else has seen this, and if it's worth logging a case? I've found that this seems to manifest itself as "Stop service" will succeed in the log, and them some time later the upgrade will fail. rm -rfv /var/cache/dnf* will resolve it. Cheers, Nathaniel.

Unable to install on a bonded NIC

So I'm running a fresh install of oVirt on a new Centos Stream node. Fresh install. I installed the OS with bonded interfaces. I bonded them during the install via anaconda. I followed the doc here: https://ovirt.org/documentation/installing_ovirt_as_a_self-hosted_engine_us… When I got to the hosted-engine --deploy step, it errored out saying, "Only Team devices are present. Teaming is unsupported." However, I'm not teaming my network adapters at all. Live Migration FAIL

I carried out the following procedure: 1. Exported a VM as an OVA to a 4.3 environment host. 2. SCP'd the file to a host on a 4.5.0.3 environment. 3. Selected Import VM - Virtual Appliance (OVA) - selected the Host and path - clicked Load but no VMs are listed. This process previously worked in 4.4 Is this a known bug? I want to run a VM, which will itself be the KVM host of a number of KVM guests. Each of the guests running in that nested environment will have a vNIC with an IP address on the same subnet as the top-level hypervisor (the ovirt node). In VMware vSphere environments I was able to do this by enabling promiscuous mode and forged transmits on the VMware distributed switch port group, as described in this medium article; https://williamlam.com/2013/11/why-is-promiscuous-mode-forged.html I've search a number of old threads here on the ovirt list archives. Many refer to vdsm hooks that don't appear to exist any longer in ovirt 4.5.1. How can I accomplish the same thing in ovirt?

Hi, As you can see on the pictures I attached, uploading iso file to the disk but it was paused by the system and I can't delete them either from the disk. This is most frustrating. Please help me fix this issue if you can Furthermore, the issue i am having at the moment, i cant delete, edit disk. all the time i added another iso file to disk i got ERROR "paused by the system". And when i tried deleting the iso file, i still got another ERROR. "Finalizing Cleaning up" (For more than a week the status never changes) Please how can i fix it. Cannot Log Into Newly Deployed Hosted Engine

I have a fresh installation of a 4.5.1 hosted engine and the admin password I set during the process isn't working. I reset the password for the admin user from a root shell on the HE using the ovirt-aaa-jdbc-tool utility and still no dice. I found a log file for "keycloak" that I tailed while logging in and discovered that keycloak was denying me. I am not familiar with keycloak at all. It appears as though I enabled keycloak during the deployment. Just a few quick answers may get me back to where I need to be: 1. How do I log into the web management portal ? Previously it was admin@internal and then the password 2. If keycloak is looking for some kind of directory server outside of the engine I don't have one, if the engine is the keycloak server what are my credentials for the HE portal ? 3. Can I re-run engine-setup and turn Keycloak off so that I have internal based authentication ? Hello oVirt Team I'm in the process of deploying a three-node oVirt hyperconverged platform and from the cockpit interface of the deployment node I keep running into the same error. The system finishes the gluster deployment phase (sometimes) and then prompts to continue with the hosted engine deployment but then fails immediately complaining about the naming convention of my network interfaces. My network interfaces are 802.3ad bonds configured during the installation process of each node using "bondx" naming convention consistent across all three nodes. Any wisdom or pointers would be appreciated.

Can't start VM because host has insufficient amount of CPU cores

Hi I just upgraded my oVirt installation from 4.4.10 to 4.5.1.2. The upgrade went through without any errors and most things seem to work but i have one critical problem now. Somehow it does not evaluate the correct number of CPU available on the hypervisor and blocks the start of a VM (except for the engine). The problem I only have on the hypervisor which has the engine deployed. I have three hypervisors, but only one has the engine installed. This hypervisor is also in a seperate cluster. After the upgrade, on the hypervisor which has the engine installed, I can't start a VM via the oVirt Manager. I can start the engine via "hosted-engine --vm-start" but if I try to start any other VM it fails with this Error: https://imgur.com/7lbGb8v -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Operation Canceled Error while executing action: Razor: Cannot run VM. There is no host that satisfies current scheduling constraints. See below for details: The host venge did not satisfy internal filter CPU because it has an insufficient amount of CPU cores to run the VM. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I did not change any specs for the VM and even if I reduce the VM to only use 1 core it fails with the error above. I'm seeing this too on oVirt 4.5.1 using CentOS Stream 8 for the hosts. The console is blank, no response to ping and I have to power off the VM and power it back on again to recover it. VMs missing following Import of Storage Domain

Hi All, I have 2 oVirt 3 node Clusters in 2 Datacenters - effectively 2 independent environements with stretched VLANs for DR purposes. Each volume is geo replicated to the other datacenter. Each volume is a separate Storage Domain. In a DR event the geo-replicated volumes/Storage Domains are imported in the other Datacenter and the VMs imported once it's attached. The issue I am seeing is that some of the VMs are not listed when I click 'VM Import' from the imported Storage Domain. The disks for those missing VMs however, do exist in 'Disk Import' Tab of the imported Storage Domain. Prior to importing the Storage Domain in Site B, all VM disks were migrated to a single Storage Domain in Site A and geo-replication allowed to sync. Kind Regards Simon...

Hi, I have a fresh Ovirt installation (4.4.10.7-1.el8 engine and oVirt Node 4.4.10) on a Dell VRTX chassis. There are 3 blades, two of them are identical hardware (PowerEdge M630) and the third is a little newer (PowerEdge M640). The third has different CPUs, more RAM, and slower NICs. I also have a bunch of data domains some on the shared PERC internal storage and others on an external iSCSI storage, all seems configured correctly and all the hosts are operational. I can migrate a VM back and forth from the first two blades without any problem, I can migrate a VM to the third blade but when I migrate a VM from the third blade to any of the other two the task terminate successfully, the VM is marked as up on the target host but the VM hangs, the console is frozen and the VM stops to respond to ping. I have no clues about why this is happening and I'm looking for suggestions about how to debug and hopefully fix this issue. Hello, I need to transfer a VM from oVirt 4.4 to vSphere. I see that the "Export as OVA" in the GUI exports in a format compatible with oVirt but not vSphere. Any hint? Any way to easily convert the oVirt generated OVA to a vSPhere compatible one? Thanks, Gianluca

Hello, i upgraded my engine and nodes to 4.5 a few days ago and now planning to upgrade the cluster level compatibility from 4.6 to 4.7. First i tried doing this from the cluster settings, but it fails because hosted-engine settings are locked. So i tried it by hand but again got the locked error, i found i cant change any values on the hosted engine. Changing compatiblity level on all other VMs worked fine and there are on 4.7 now. I read about the timezone issue in 4.4.8, so i checked the timezone of my hosted engine it is filled with "Standard: (GMTZ) Greenwhich Standard Time". To be sure, i just did a "/usr/share/ovirt-engine/dbscripts/engine-psql.sh -c "update vm_static SET time_zone='Etc/GMT' where vm_name='HostedEngine';"" and it changed the timezone, but settings are still locked and i am unable to change the compatibility level. Any idea how to solve this?

Hello, all Maybe somebody have experiance. I have cluster 3 hosts + ISCSI storage as Data Domain. How can i upload vm image from my old ovirt (baremetal with local storage) to my new cluster from CLI, NOT from WEB UI? Dowload on my local computer and post from WEB UI it take long period of time. Thak you for your time.
