[Users] VM migration failed on oVirt Node Hypervisor release 2.5.5 (0.1.fc17) : empty cacert.pem

Hi My concern is about ovirt node oVirt Node Hypervisor release 2.5.5 (0.1.fc17), iso downloaded from ovirt. I've installed and connect 4 nodes on a manager, and try to migrate a VM between hypervisors. I always fail with error : libvirtError: operation failed: Failed to connect to remote libvirt URI qemu+tls://172.16.6.3/system where 172.0.0.1 is the IP of a nde. I've check on the node and the port 16514 is open. I also test the virsh command to have a better error message : virsh -c tls://172.16.6.3/system error: Unable to import client certificate /etc/pki/CA/cacert.pem I've checked the cert file on the ovirt node and found it was empty, and that on all nodes install from the Ovirt ISO it is empty I also checked /config/etc/pki/CA/cacert.pem, which is also empty. On a vdsm node install from package on fedora17, it works. ls -al /etc/pki/CA/cacert.pem lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 30 18 janv. 14:30 /etc/pki/CA/cacert.pem -> /etc/pki/vdsm/certs/cacert.pem And the cert is good. I've seen no bug report regarding the feature... Please restore the images dirs, removing the "old" and the "orig" dirs you have. You need to change the engine db accordingly too. Later you can retry the merge. [Users] Installing a lab setup from scratch using F18

As promised on IRC (jvandewege) I'll post my findings of setting up an ovirt lab environment from scratch using F18. First some background: - 2 hosts for testing storage cluster with replicated gluster data and iso domains (HP ML110 G5) - 2 hosts for VMs (HP DL360 G5?) - 1 managment server (HP ML110 G5) All physical servers have atleast 1Gb connection and they also have 2 10Gb ethernet ports connected to two Arista switches. Complete setup (except for the managment srv) is redundant. Using F18-x64 DVD and using minimal server with extra tools, after install the ovirt.repo and the beta gluster repo is activated. This serves as a proof of concept for a bigger setup. Problems sofar: - looks like F18 uses a different path to access video since using the defaults leads to garbled video, need to use nomodeset as a kernel option - upgrading the minimal install (yum upgrade) gives me kernel-3.7.2-204 and the boot process halts with soft locks on different cpus, reverting to 3.6.10-4.fc18.x86_64 fixes that. Managment is using 3.7.2 kernel without problems BUT it doesn't use libvirt/qemu-kvm/vdsm, my guess its related. - need to disable NetworkManager and enable network (and ifcfg-xxx) to get network going - adding the storage hosts from de webui works but after reboot vdsm is not starting, reason seems to be that network isn't initialised until after all interfaces are done with their dhcp requests. There are 4 interfaces which use dhcp, setting those to bootprotocol=none seems the help. - during deploy their is a warning about 'cannot set tuned profile', seems harmless but hadn't seen that one until now. - the deployment script discovers during deployment that the ID of the second storage server is identical to the first one and abort the deployment (Blame HP!) shouldn't it generate a unique one using uuidgen?? Things that are OK sofar: - ovirt-engine setup (no problems with postgresql) - creating/activating gluster volumes (no more deadlocks) Adding virt hosts has to wait til tomorrow, got problems getting the dvd iso onto an usb stick, will probably burn a DVD to keep going. HI, everyone: Recently , I newly installed ovirt 3.1 from http://resources.ovirt.org/releases/stable/rpm/Fedora/17/noarch/, and node use http://resources.ovirt.org/releases/stable/tools/ovirt-node-iso-2.5.5-0.1.f… when i add gluster domain via nfs, mount error occurred, I have do manually mount action on the node but failed if without -o nolock option: # [Users] KVM version not showing in Ovirt Manager

Hi I have just added another HV to a cluster and its up and running fine. I can run VM's on it and migrate fro other HV's onto it. I do note however that in the manager there is no KVM version listed as installed however on other HV's in the cluster there is a version present. I see that the KVM version is slightly different on this new host but as i said apart from this visual issue everything appear to be running fine. Hello, if I want to attach a floppy image to a guest, can I only do via run once when it is powered off or can I attach it to a running guest too? In my case I have a winxp guest running and I only see Change CD as an option... Thanks, Gianluca

Hi I am setting up another DC, that is managed by my sole management node, and this DC will have a requirement that the VM's will need an additional storage NIC. This NIC is for NFS/CIFS traffic and is independent of the oVirt VM's disks. I have cabled the additional physical NIC in the HV's as this network is non routed storage, and I where to go from here. Whats the next step needed to add the NIC to the DC and then i presume adding the NIC to the VM's is straight forward. thanks

Hi All, I have a multi-VM setup, where I have ovirt engine on one VM and VDSM host on another. Discovering the host from the engine puts the host in Unassigned state, with the error saying 'ovirtmgmt' network not found. When i select setupNetworks and drag-drop the ovirtmgmt to setup over eth0, i see the below error in VDSM & host goes to non-operataional state. I need to migrate an ovirt-engine from an All-In-One (AIO) setup to a dedicated machine. So with an old mailing message I've tried to do it but not finished yet, that's why I ask for help. Hi, I'm trying to install oVirt node 2.5.5-0.1.fc17 and it is node going well. I'm trying to install it on a Dell blade M610 via a iDrac, and I'm quit accustomed to this kind of thing. - As I already had the issue of the label on the grub boot line, I knew how to specify /dev/sr0 or sr1 on the linux line. Well. - The install is ok with discovering my hard drive, and the installation seems to be fine. After rebooting, the bott process is leading me to the login prompt where the documentation tells me to log as 'admin' with the correct password : The keyboard is not responding, I can not even type the user name. I can't change of console, no network activity is seen. There does not seem to be a kernel panic, as some additional log lines are displayed (about the creation of bond interfaces). I also see some more lines about "systemd-readahead-collect : failed to open pack file: read-only file system"... When downloading the iso install file from the oVirt repo, I choosed the smalest one, not the "live" one. Did I did wrong? Anyway, now, what are my options? -- Nicolas Ecarnot

Hi all I have a strange behaviour between my ovirt node and my FC switch. All material are brocade. Ovirt node release : oVirt Node Hypervisor release 2.5.5 (0.1.fc17) The thing is that the node doesn't detect the FC port, it detect the FC card only. On 10 clone hosts, 2 have detected the link, all others fails. And for these 2 hosts I've rebooted them many time before it works. Because there is only the BFA driver include, I can't debug anything, or update Does anyone have a feedback on that ? Hi All, This is my current setup: HV1 has : storage_domain_1 is SPM master HV2 has : storage_domain_2 is normal (not master) HV1 has storage_domain_1 mounted via 127.0.0.1 (network name, but hosts entry sends it to loopback) HV2 has storage_domain_2 mounted via 127.0.0.1 (network name, but hosts entry sends it to loopback) All VMs on HV1 have its storage set to storage_domain_1 and all VMs on HV2 have their storage set to storage_domain_2 My problem now is that after I finally created all the disks on HV2 over a super slow mgmt network (ovirtmgmt), it's a 100 Mbit only, I'm now trying to kickstart all the VMs I created, however, formatting the disk is taking for ever ~ 20-30mins for 12 GB, that is roughly how long it took to create the disks over the 100Mbit link. The weirdness really starts with HV2, as all VMs on HV1 with disks on storage_domain_1 have "good" I/O throughput, all VMs on HV2 are awfully slow in reading/writing to disk. I've tried some network settings to increase throughput, but those didnt help / had no effect at all. Anyone come across this issue ? Hello, I see that under http://resources.ovirt.org/releases/beta/rpm/Fedora/18 there are populated rpms. Does this mean 3.2 beta has been released? Where to find announcements in case for future? I presume if this is the case, it would be better to use them instead of nightly at this stage, correct? If I install beta, can I then "regularly" update to final 3.2 with the usual "engine-update" and so on? I'm going to test on Dell R310 (engine) and R815 (node) tomorrow, so I'm available to test what is best for the project. I'm going to test both on local storage and iSCSI EQL PS5000X thanks Gianluca

Hi, I see a strange behaviour - Setup: 1 ovirtmgmt / ovirt-engine hsot 2 ovirt nodes / HVs 2 storage domains in same cluster & DC HV1 => storage domain 1 (master) HV2 => storage domain 2 Issue: When I create a host with say ~40GB disk to be on HV2/storage_domain_2, it does that via HV1 ? Why is that ? I realize a storage domain is "attached to the cluster/dc", however, when creating the VM I explicitly seleted to only run on HV2, so why would it still create the disk via HV1 ? The mgmt network (for now) is only just that, a mgmt network, not meant to create 40 GB disks (dd from /dev/null) over NFS .. it's currently only a 100mbit switch Question: How, if at all, can I make Ovirt create the Disk from the host where it's meant to run on ? Hello, in vSphere you can have 'views' like Storage views, Network views... Example: http://i.techrepublic.com.com/blogs/sept-2010-virtualizationtips-tip4-figc.… This is very useful, typical scenario is when delivery manager asks sysadmins about potential impact on VMs when a scheduled update of a switch/storage box goes wrong. It's easy in vSphere, just check 'views' and you will see it. Something like this possible in oVirt? It would be nice to have it as 'map', also as 'result' of searching, something like... vms: network.name = foo and network.risk = down jbelka

Hi, Migration failed due to a lack of an iptables rules about tls > # libvirt tls > -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 16514 -j ACCEPT I added it in /etc/sysconfig/iptables and migration worked. After a reboot, this rule is lost, as well as some setting I added in /etc. I see the the nodes have very specific mouting strategies, and/or read only architecture. I'm not sure I want to become an expert about why and how it's done, but I'd be glad if someone just tells me where I have to write my settings in order them to resist node reboot? Hi, As a beginner, I'm reading again and again, but I'm not sure of the best way to do : Through the oVirt web manager, I'm trying to create an iSCSI storage domain. On my Equalogic SAN, I've created a volume with no restriction access (for the time being). I have two hypervisors on which I'm quite sure my network config is good enough for now (two nics bonded for the management, and 2 nics bonded for the iscsi). Everything is pinging ok. Networking is not an issue. In the ovirt web manager, I try to create the very first storage domain, of iscsi type of course. I choose one of the node, then the iscsi discovery + login is working fine. Hi All, Am having some difficulties with restoring templates - basically, currently, I'm using each new HV (hyper-visor/node) as a separate DC, now, the first host has about 5 VM templates that I need to be able to restore to the 2nd HV I installed today - however - after detaching the export domain and re-attaching (finally) to the 2nd HV, I still am unable to import the templates into the 2nd HV (remember, separate data center) as it complains that the "system" - the overall ovirt-engine - already contains templates with the same ID, if I manually fake a different ID, it complains about the name, if I manually amend the name, it wont show at all ... :\ so - how can I make the templates available to the 2nd DC to create VMs from it (this is the end goal) ... on top of it - i dont think that when importing templates, you should have to make the name unique, especially since they currently seem DC dependent, so in a different DC they should be able to have the same name; and, when restoring Templates, the system should assign new IDs to the Templates imported, and only use the originals as a verification step if the target DC is the same as the src DC. [Users] spm keeps on shifting between nodes continously

Hi, I have 2 nodes of ovirt 3.1+ gluster. When i am trying to activate the Data center its changing to up then contend then back up continuously. Same way along with the above SPM status is shifting between the two nodes continously. With one node its working fine.
