New User not Showing in the web GUI

I've added a new user using the CLI ovirt-aaa-jdbc-tool. I've also been able to modify the attributes of the new user and list all the modifications. However the new user does ot show up in the web GUI, a password has been assigned and the user is assigned to the '*' Name Space. What must be done to have the user show up in the web gui? Thanks

cloning a template using Rest Api

What is the easiest way to clone a template using rest api. I know I can create a VM from a template then make a new template from this new VM but I would like to just clone a template directly so I can maintain different branches TIA

Password at install for admin@internal not working

I've installed ovirt several times on a fresh machine from scratch. I've had no problems with the install however I'm unable to login via the web console using the assigned password entered at the time of the install. On the last 3 tries I've kept the password simple to insure that I was not entering the assigned password incorrectly. I continued tp get with each install the message: Unable to log in. Verify your login information or contact the system administrator. I've checked the install log for errors and not found any. While trying to keep the password simple I was warned about the simplicity password but decided to continue because of previous attempts were not successful. are there any addtitional log that I can view to help with this issue? Is there possibly a bug in the install process that has a work around? Thanks

The issue was with edk2-ovmf package update, rolling that package back and it started recognizing the CPU and host coming up... tested on one host and worked fine. How did rollback yum i see many yum updates in the yum history. Here is what the error says. The host CPU does not match the Cluster CPU Type and is running in a degraded mode. It is missing the following CPU flags: model_IvyBridge, spec_ctrl. Direct Linux kernel/initrd boot

I was looking at using direct Linux kernel/initrd booting for a particular automation project, but I'm not sure how to use it. The docs talk about referencing files from an ISO domain, but those are deprecated (and I don't have one). Can the files be in a regular data domain? How would I specify which domain to look in? The docs also say the alternative is to specify a path "on the host", but I guess that requires the files to be copied to the same path on every host that could boot the VM? I guess I can instead make a one-off ISO and upload it to a data domain; it just would be easier to use direct boot. -- Chris Adams <cma(a)cmadams.net>

Hello, I updated all my 3 CentOS 4.4.5 hosts to 4.4.6. Or at least upgrading them from the GUI I see now they are on CentOS 8.4 and: [root@ov200 ~]# rpm -qa| grep 4.4.6 ovirt-release44-4.4.6.3-1.el8.noarch ovirt-host-4.4.6-1.el8.x86_64 ovirt-host-dependencies-4.4.6-1.el8.x86_64 [root@ov200 ~]# How to see from the webadmin GUI or from the Host Console that they are indeed 4.4.6? If I try to set cluster compatibility version to 4.6 I get: Error while executing action: Cannot change Cluster Compatibility Version to higher version when there are active Hosts with lower version. -Please move Host ov300, ov301, ov200 with lower version to maintenance first. I don't remember the need of giving downtime to get new cluster version... Or what are further requirements (and benefits....) to upgrade to 4.6? Thanks, Gianluca

Hi List, I'm trying to understand why my hosted engine is moved from one node to another from time to time. It is happening sometime multiple times a day. But there are also days without it. I can see the following in the ovirt-hosted-engine-ha/agent.log: ovirt_hosted_engine_ha.agent.hosted_engine.HostedEngine::(score) Penalizing score by 1600 due to network status After that the engine will be shutdown and started on another host. The oVirt Admin portal is showing the following around the same time: Invalid status on Data Center Default. Setting status to Non Responsive. But the whole cluster is working normally during that time. I believe that I have somehow a network issue on my side but I have no clue what kind of check is causing the network status to penalized. Does anyone have an idea how to investigate this further? Best regards Christoph

Gluster bricks error

For a long time I have been seeing the same error, which cannot be corrected.After restarting the host which has a Volume of one or more Bricks, the Volume starts with the status "Online", but the Bricks remain "Offline". This leads to having to manually restart Volume, the ovirt-ha and ovirt-broker services, and run the hosted-engine --connect-storage command. And only after that I can start the hosted engine back to normal. I tried this on different server hardware and different operating systems for the host, but the result is the same. This is a very serious flaw that nullifies the high availability in HCI using GlusterFS.Regards!

Create gluster brick in oVirt engine, RAID-parameters

Hi, When creating a gluster brick in oVirt (host->Storage Devices->Create Brick), I have to fill in the parameters of the RAID volume the brick : RAID-type, number of disks and stripe size. My setup is DELL RAID Controler PERC H710 4 SSD disks raid5 Default stripe for Dell RAID-controller defaults is 64KB. I have no choice of a Raid 5 and if I choose Raid6, 4 or 3 disk, 64KB or 128KB Stripe. It does not work, (Failed to create brick data_ssd on host xxx of cluster Default). The only option that works is RAID type = None tried to find information about this, but no luck yet.. I tried ovirt engine 4.4.1.10 and lastest 4.4.7.6 Can I leave this to None ? Performance ? 4.4.7 gluster quorum problem

Hi guys, one strange thing happens, cannot understand it. Today i installed last version 4.4.7 on centos stream, replica 3, via cockpit, internal lan for sync. Seems all ok, if reboot 3 nodes together aslo ok. But if i reboot 1 node ( and declare node rebooted through web ui) the bricks (engine and data) remain down on that node. All is clear on logs without explicit indication of the situation except "Server quorum regained for volume data. Starting local bricks" on glusterd.log. After "systemctl restart glusterd" bricks gone down on another node. After "systemctl restart glusterd" on that node all is ok. PostgreSQL password for ovirt 4.4.7

I've finally installed successfully ovirt 4.4.7 using the default installation. I would like to change the passwords for the following userids: postgres, engine database and data warehouse database. Can someone provide me with information grading the files that contain the password to these items? I would also like to know the best way to change the passwords. Thanks

Cannot start hosted-engine

Hi list, I have a hosted engine running on a CentOS 8. The engine and all the VM's are stored on a 4-node gluster. I had some issues with the gluster and then the hosted-engine stopped working (even though the virtualization dashboard showed 4 virtual machines running). I tried to "systemctl restart" the hosted-engine, but it failed. I try to reboot the server and the hosted-engine still will not come up. Reconfigure Gluster from Replica 3 to Arbiter 1/Replica 2

My current hyperconverged environment is replicating data across all 3 servers. I'm running critically low on disk space, and need to add space. To that end, I've ordered 8x 800GB ssd drives, and plan to put 4 drives in 1 server, and 4 drives in the other. What's my best option for reconfiguring the hyperconverged cluster, to change gluster storage away from Replica 3 to a Replica 2 / Arbiter model? I'd really prefer not to have to reinstall things from scratch, but I'll do that if I have to. My most important requirement is that I cannot have any downtime for my VMs (so I can only reconfigure 1 host at a time). Sent with ProtonMail Secure Email.

Hi, I understood we have to put hosted-engine into maintenance mode and shutdown the VMs if we want to power off the host (otherwise it will reboot). I'm setting up a process to - put the HestedEngine in global maintenance mode (*hosted-engine --set-maintenance --mode=global*) - shutdown the HostedEngine (*hosted-engine --vm-shutdown*) - PowerOff the HostedEngine (*hosted-engine --vm-poweroff*) - Power off the server (*shutdown -P*) Everything works fine and I can start the server back up, remove the HostedEngine from maintenance mode, and it will start automatically running. The issue is when bringing up hosted-engine: all VMs come up but one (*BigIP*) and I am trying to see if there is way to bring it up without having to store the engine password (using the *ovirt_vm* API). At the moment, I am having to look for the BigIP VM and then use credentials to bring it up: it will not come up with 'hosted-engine --vm-start' Is there to make this specific VM start the same time as the others VM automatically when HostedEngine starts? Removing Direct Mapped LUNs

Hi List, We need to add and remove directly mapped LUNs to multiple VMs in our Non-Production environment. The environment is backed by an iSCSI SAN. In testing when removing a directly mapped LUN it doesn't remove the underlying multipath and devices. Several questions. 1) Is this the expected behavior? 2) Are we supposed to go to each KVM host and manually remove the underlying multipath devices? 3) Is there a technical reason that oVirt doesn't do this as part of the steps to removing the storage? This is something that was handled by the manager in the previous virtualization that we used, Oracle's Xen based Oracle VM. Thanks! Ryan

ovirt (two nodes & iscsi san)

Hi. i am trying to set up an environment with two ovirt nodes connected to a san in iscsi. every node has a direct connection to the san (with a point-to-point connection). so every node talks with the san on a different iscsi channel with a different ip. in this case (i have just tried) when I shut down ovirt-node1 the ovirt-engine cannot restart automatically on ovirt-node2. maybe this because when I have configured hosted engine I have moved the engine storage to the iscsi lun that only the node1 can see (the ovirt-engine-setup asks for the iscsi ip address). In this case how can I resovle my problem? other than moving the ovirt-engine from one node to the other I have also to publish other luns to both ovirt nodes. but if every node talks only with one channel of the iscsi san I think that this won't working. If i put a 10 gb switch between ovirt-nodes and san channels can working? what I would like to do is connect the two ovirt nodes to the switch and also the two iscsi channels of the san to the switch. in this way each node should be able to talk to the san on both ip (iscsi channels) thank you

random adapter (NIC) resets on oVirt Node 4.4.6

Hi, I've been trying to get oVirt Node 4.4.6 up and running on my Dell r620 hosts but am facing a strange issue where seemingly all network adapters get reset at random times after install. The interfaces reset as soon as a bit of traffic is flowing through them. Also the logs show nfs timeouts. This only happens after I have installed the host using the oVirt engine and it also only happens when the host is connected to the engine. When the host is in maintenance mode it also seems to work fine. The host and networks work fine when its by itself (I tested right after install using the ISO and also after I have removed the host from the cluster) I cant figure why this is happening. Am I missing something? I've been stuck on this for the last couple of weeks, a bit of help would be much appreciated. Thank you! My cluster is looking like this: Engine: oVirt 4.4.6 - CentOS Linux release 8.3.2011 host1: oVirt 4.4 repository on CentOS Linux release 8.4.2105 host2: oVirt 4.4 repository on CentOS Linux release 8.4.2105 host3 (this is the one I'm trying to install): oVirt node 4.4.6 -- Best regards Tivon Häberlein

Hi Marko, I don't think there is a way to emulate a non-native architecture. Engine doesn't have ARM support and it cannot handle ARM (native or emulated) hosts. You could try to run emulated ARM VMs presented as x86 to Engine using Vdsm hooks but I doubt it would work. I'm afraid the only way is to add ARM support to oVirt. My former colleague has played with running oVirt on Raspberry Pi hosts some years ago (there are traces of that effort in Vdsm) and I think adding ARM support should be, at least in theory, possible. Particular features available would be mostly dependent on ARM support in QEMU and libvirt. How to remove "VM is being cloned" flag in a failed clone VM operation

Hello list, I had an unsuccessful zombie clone VM task - 1. Target: was able to unlock the disks and delete the target VM 2. Source: able to unlock the disks. Now I cannot do anything with the source as it is flagged as "VM is being clone". Is there a way to remove this flag manually? vdms-client Host -> this does not show any tasks outstanding. Thank you. upgrading to 4.4.6 with Rocky Linux 8

Hi.. I'm looking to migrate soon from CentOS 7.9 with oVirt 4.3.10 to Rocky Linux 8.4 with oVirt 4.4.6. I'm working on my kickstart of my standalone engine in a VM at the moment. So far, with minimal experience with Rocky Linux, after my kickstart, I was able to run "engine-setup", follow all the defaults and then access my "new" engine via web. I have to explore the actual procedure for installing on my current engine host, and restoring my data. When oVirt team releases new releases, I'm just wondering if you test going from the last previous release (4.3.10 in this case) to each latest release? I know that the documentation says we always need to make sure we update to each individaul major release, but I'm just wondering if this is something that oVirt team tests with each release? I'm very concerned for potential of failed upgrade, and the potential headaches that it could cause. I see the 4.4.6 was released in time with RHEL 8.3. I'd like to use Rocky Linux 8.4 because I believe RHEL has re-enabled mptsas (though I know still unsupported) from 8.4+ which will make things easier. Any additional suggestions or caveats of the upgrade? Thanks for any feedback, Jason.

Starting them works fine regardless of the host version. Q: Strange ping timeouts/network issues when 1 node is down

Hi, I have observed strange ping timeouts/network issues when one of nodes is down, for example, for RAM upgrade. Powering up and connecting node back solves this. Each node have 2 networks (connected to different Ethernet interfaces), ovirtmgmt 192.168.0.xxx and DMZ 192.168.1.x. Additionally, time consuming operations like VM cloning causes increase of ping latency to ALL nodes from local workstations. VM cloning should load only 1 node but it should not affect the whole ovirt mgmt network on all nodes. How to fix this issue? Thanks in advance for any help. Andrei

export VM from oVirt engine 3.5

Hello, I am trying to export a bunch o VM from oVirt version 3.5 The problem is that there is no OVA support for exporting them. I also tryed to export VMs into OVA format using ovirtsdk4 which anyway won't work on oVirt 3.5. I can successfully export to a NFS partition but for each VM there are several qcow v2 files which I suppose to be the VM image and its snapshots. How to identify the correct file to represent the current VM status ? If I delete all the snapshots, will I end up with only one valid qcow v2 image that I can use ?

passing data between guacamole and xrdp server

Hi. I have a custom use case where I would like to have two guacamole RDP connections that point to the same host, but the underlying xrdp start script would initialize one connection slightly different than the other. I don't see a simple way that I can pass anything between Guacamole and the xrdp server which would allow the script to determine which connection the user chose in guac? I thought *maybe* "client name" under "Basic Settings" but it seems to apply to Windows only. It would be neat to be able to pass environment variables in. Thanks, Jason.

Hi, oVirt Node 4.4.7 i i have just deployed self hosted engine using supplied wizard. Install ended without any error. Now.engine can reach ovirtnode (and viceversa) but cannot reach/be reached by external network. During install node ens192.6 network adapter have been moved to a newly created bridge ovirtmgmt. Bridge routing have been correctly set. Actually ovirtnode can reach external networks (and internet) so I assume routing is OK for the node. I can login to ovirtengine via SSH from ovirtnode (but not from outside) and i can ping/reach the note from ovirtengine but nothing other, even on the some subnet (I have other 2 nodes instaled with adiacent addresses) Routing on the engine is OK (same gateway than node) Tried to redeploy with the same result. Probably it is a a stupid problem but I cannot figure out how to solve it! Any suggestion? Thanks in advance Fabrizio

Multiple gateway not working after "big update"

Hi, i've just tried to update my sandboxing environmnent after long time without update (i know it's bad...) and i'm facing a problem with multiple gateway. This environment work with 6 hypervisors (centos 8) and one manager on dedicated server, all this baremetal have 2 interface in 2 différent network protected by firewall. All my hypervisords have 2 network for ovirt, one "ovirtmgmt" for management (only SSH and internal admin stuff), the other "ovir_prod" for console, migration, and default gateway. I've 3 hypervisors non updated which i can ping /ssh / ... (according to iptables) on the two interface without problem. But the 3 hypervisors just updated are accessible only on the "ovirt_prod" interface. I'm looking inside ip route/ ip rules it seems to miss something. I always configured my HV by ovirt gui so i does not understand what going wrong.
