Data Centers status Not Operational

Hi everyone, I found 3 servers (HV1, HV2, HV3) that contains VMs at another servers room. These servers are hosts based on KVM. I logged into oVirt Engine Web Administration. Data Centers tab show me only one entry Name: RCV Storage: Shared Status: Not Operational Compability Version: 3.4 Description: [Empty] Webbrowser oVirt Engine Web Administrator show me oVirt Engine Version: 3.4.0-1.el6 One VM on HV3 has stopped, Hosts tab show Non Responsive Status for every host (HV1-3); every VM in Virtual Machines tab show Unknown status. What do I'll do to change status in Data Center? How to start debug the reason? Last administrator leave documentation in vestigial form :) DataCenter: RCV -->Cluster: RCV_Cluster ---->Host: HV1 node ---->Host: Hv2 node ---->Host: HV3 engine Best regards, nexpron

How to handle broken NFS storage?

I'm trying to figure out how to keep a "broken" NFS mount point from causing the entire HCI cluster to crash. HCI is working beautifully. Last night, I finished adding some NFS storage to the cluster - this is storage that I don't necessarily need to be HA, and I was hoping to store some backups and less-important VMs on, since my Gluster (sssd) storage availability is pretty limited. But as a test, after I got everything setup, I stopped the nfs-server. This caused the entire cluster to go down, and several VMs - that are not stored on the NFS storage - went belly up. Once I started the NFS server process again, HCI did what it was supposed to do, and was able to automatically recover. My concern is that NFS is a single point of failure, and if VMs that don't even rely on that storage are affected if the NFS storage goes away, then I don't want anything to do with it. On the other hand, I'm still struggling to come up with a good way to run on-site backups and snapshots without using up more gluster space on my (more expensive) sssd storage. Is there any way to setup NFS storage for a Backup Domain - as well as a Data domain (for lesser important VMs) - such that, if the NFS server crashed, all of my non-NFS stuff would be unaffected? Hosted-engine fail and host reboot

I tried with a 1 baremetal host, 3 baremetals or virtual hosts and I still have the same problem for installing the hosted-engine. Hyperconverge installs well. I have tried with multiple version of ovirt ISO file 4.4.1 and 4.4.4 and 4.4.6. when I run hosted-engine --deploy or with the cockpit, it creates a temporary VM in the 192.168.222.x subnet and I am able to connect in ssh on this temporary ip. Adding a Ubuntu Host's NFS share to oVirt

Hello, Is it possible to use Ubuntu to share an NFS export with oVirt?I'm trying to setup a Backup Domain for my environment. I got to the point of actually adding the new Storage Domain. When I click OK, I see the storage domain appear momentarily before disappearing, at which point I get a message about oVirt not being able to obtain a lock. It appears I'm running into the issue described in this thread: https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/thread/BNVXUH5B26FBFC… ... Although the actual export is ext4, not xfs. From what I'm reading on that thread and elsewhere, it sounds like this problem is a result of SELinux not being present, is that correct? Can't remove snapshot

Hi all, I patched one of my Windows VM's yesterday. I started by snapshotting the VM, then applied the Windows update. Now that the patch has been tested, I want to remove the snapshot. I get this message: Error while executing action: win-sql-2019: - Cannot remove Snapshot. The following attached disks are in ILLEGAL status: win-2019-tmpl_Disk1 - please remove them and try again. Does anyone have any thoughts how to recover from this? I really don't want to keep this snapshot hanging around. Thanks in advance, *David Johnson*

Hello, i try to use fedora coreos 34 from glance-repo. i import template, choose as type redhat coreos and start with only user + key ingnition. errormessage: Failed to run VM fcos34 (User: admin@internal-authz). with other templates (centos8) i have no problems. is there anything more todo before starting vm?

Cannot add new host to Ovirt

I have an Ovirt installation with a hosted engine and three hosts. Using Gluster as the storage for the VMs. Ovirt: 4.4.6.7 Hosts: CentOS Stream release 8 (updated to latest) So far so good. I am trying to add a new host to the cluster with the same OS and hardware as the others and I cannot get it to install, it gives me all kind of errors and it will not install. I reinstalled the OS and I am getting the same results. DNS is configured properly and working ok for all hosts. hi i have a 4.4 ovirt cluster with a sigle server in it the emulated chipset in this cluster is q35 i need to change emulated chipset from q35 to i440fx to add a new host that don't support the q35 chipset type how it will affect on vm's that are running on ovirt 4.4 cluster ? what does this change process look like, how can i do it correctly?

I upgraded. The upgrade seems to have been successful. Hello everyone, I installed ovirt yesterday, everything went well. Now I want to log in to :9090 I use the same as my login details because it says Log in with your server user account. However, no matter what I do, all I get is the message can't log in. Is there a way via ssh to change a password?

Creating Snapshots failed

Hello Community, since I upgrade our cluster to ovirt 4.4.6.8-1.el8 I'm not able anymore to create snapshots on certain VMs. For example I have two debian 10 VMs, from one I can make a snapshot, and from other one not. Both are up to date and uses the same qemu-guest-agent versions. I tried to create snapshots over API and on web gui, both gives the same result. In the attachment you found a snipped from the engine.log. Any help would be wonderful! Regards, Jonathan

I updated my three server HCI cluster from 4.4.5 to 4.4.6. All hosts updated successfully and rebooted and are active. I notice that only one host out of the three is actually running oVirt node 4.4.6 and the other two are running 4.4.5. If I check for upgrade in admin it shows no upgrades available. Why are two hosts still running 4.4.5 after being successfully upgraded/rebooted and how can I get them on 4.4.6 if no upgrades are being found?

This update is the seventh in a series of stabilization updates to the 4.4 series. How to prevent hosts entering emergency mode after upgrade from oVirt 4.4.1 Note: Upgrading from 4.4.2 GA or later should not require re-doing these steps, if already performed while upgrading from 4.4.1 to 4.4.2 GA. These are only required to be done once. CPU usage question

Hi everyone, I am slowly working the performance bottlenecks out of my rack, and ran into this puzzling scenario. Ovirt shows CPU usage at over 50%. Windows shows CPU usage between 5 and 15 % The backing store is TrueNAS NFS on a 10 GBit lan. I am seeing just under 1 GBit throughput on the storage network for this operation (create database). Am I reading this correctly that my system is bottlenecking on the CPU used to handle the Windows disk IO over TCP/IP ? Unable to migrate VMs

I have a three node oVirt 4.4.5 cluster running oVirt node hosts. Storage is mix of GlusterFS and NFS. Everything has been running smoothly, but the other day I noticed many VMs had invalid snapshots. I run a script to export OVA for VMs for backup purposes, exports seemed to have been fine but snapshots failed to delete at the end. I was able to manually delete the snapshots through oVirt admin GUI without any errors/warnings and the VMs have been running fine and can restart them without problems. I thought this problem may be due to snapshot bug which is supposedly fixed in oVirt 4.4.6. I decided to start upgrading cluster to 4.4.6 and am now having a problem with VMs not being able to migrate. When I migrate any VM (doesn't seem to matter which host to and from) the process starts but stops at 0-1%. Eventually after 15-30 minutes or more the tasks are all completed by the VM is not migrated. I am unable to migrate any VMs and as such I cannot place any host in maintenance mode. Ovirt 4.4.6.8-1 upload ova as template to multiple hosts

I have a single ovirt manager and 2 ovirt hosts, each has a local storage domain. I am using the upload_ova_as_template.py and my template upload works on a single host but not both. If I use the gui method, there is the option of "clone" and putting in a new name for the template. This seems to work most of the time, but it has failed a couple of times also. I would like to add the same "clone" and "name" option to the upload_ova_as_temple.py. What is the best way to do this since I need to have unique UUIDs for the template disks? This is a unique setup in the fact that I can't use shared storage and this should be doable as I was able to do it in the ovirt gui. Thanks Don

Hello, I need to understand which user removed a vm 2 months ago, but I can't recover such info into engine.log (that default rotate is 20). I gave a quick look to the dwh database: I'm able to find the removal date, but not the associated user. If it's the same problem that I ran into then it's the latest version of edk2-ovmf. I'm not sure why it was pushed into the repos without a fixed libvirt to go with it. Live ("any") disk migration between storages KILLS a virtual machine with Windows (UEFI) !!!

The weekend went horribly. I created a second storage domain in order to move all the virtual machines to a higher performance RAID array (From RAID6 to RAID10). My mistake was trying to move two Windows domain controllers from one storage domain to another. The problem is that when I "live" moved the virtual machine disk between storage domains, my Windows Server 2019 virtual machines worked fine until the next reboot. After a reboot, the machine just won't start and throws an error - Status: 0xc0000428 - The digital signature for this file couldn't be verified. Moving back to the "old" domain doesn't help. None of the procedures with VMs worked (Re-create boot area, turn on kernel flag - bcdedit.exe /set nointegritychecks on). I am ready to help and interested in developing Ovirt. I can also provide more information to developers if needed.

I also end up with the same problem today. How did rollback yum i see many yum updates in the yum history. Here is what the error says. The host CPU does not match the Cluster CPU Type and is running in a degraded mode. It is missing the following CPU flags: model_IvyBridge, spec_ctrl. Please update the host CPU microcode or change the Cluster CPU Type.

Adding a 4th compute host to a HCI environment

Hello, Is there documentation anywhere for adding a 4th compute-only host to an existing HCI cluster? I did the following earlier today: - Installed RHEL 8.4 onto the new (4th) host - Setup an NFS share on the host - Attached the NFS share to oVirt as a new storage domain - I then turned the NFS share into a "backup domain" - Once that was done, I installed ovirt-release44.rpm, followed by some ovirt packages: - yum install https://resources.ovirt.org/pub/yum-repo/ovirt-release44.rpm - yum install cockpit-ovirt-dashboard vdsm-gluster ovirt-host - I then logged into the oVirt Manager Web UI, navigated to Hosts, and clicked on New - I successfully added the new host to the cluster Once this was all done, load average on all 3 of my original HCI nodes started to go through the roof. I've seen servers' load average go through the roof before when NFS shares are down, so I suspect that something happened to the NFS share when I went to add the host as a compute node. In an effort to get things stabilized, I wound up yanking the new host out of oVirt, as well as the NFS share, at which point things did stabilize again. My goal here: - Setup the host as a compute-only host (don't participate in the gluster cluster) - Setup the NFS share for backup purposes Writing this email and reviewing my bash history, I think one of the places I went wrong was I installed vdsm-gluster. Guest CPU compatibility issues on upgraded host - RHEL 8

I have oVirt 4.4.6 running on my Engine VM. I also have oVirt 4.4.6 on one of my hosts. The other two hosts are still on oVirt 4.4.5. My issue seems slightly different than the issue(s) other people have described. I'm on RHEL 8 hosts. My Engine VM is running fine on the upgraded host, as is one of my Ubuntu guests. However, it seems like I'm not able to migrate *ANY* other guests over the new host. The oVirt UI just indicates that for whatever reason the upgraded host isn't available / compatible for a VM to be migrated to. I'm not sure how or why this 1 Ubuntu guest VM was able to get migrated, but it looks like its working just fine. I did try: yum downgrade edk2-ovmf Base on other people's comments. But I'm not sure how long to wait, or what else to try, to try to get my upgraded host operational again. Sent with ProtonMail Secure Email.

issue creating disk with rest api using json format

I am unable to create disk using JSON however the same query in XML works great. Ovirt 4.4.6.8 High Performance VM quirkiness

I created a high performance vm and everything is fine. I stop the virtual machine and make edits to it and again runs correctly. I shutdown the vm and click the edit tab to look at what I changed and it is now back to the defaults and my edits are gone. Is this now the intended result. I was using the same settings in 4.3 and never exhibited this behavior. What I have observed so for is that I disabled Headless, disabled cpu pinning, and changed numa config. When I shutdown the vm, they revert to default of Headless enabled, cpu pinning is set and the numa config changed. This is not what I expect to happen. Has anyone else noticed this behavior? Hi, This morning I have a problem that suddenly my Host (Using Centos 8 Stream, not oVirt Node) showing error with Cpu Compatibility. It says my CPU doesn’t have Haswell-noTSX and spec_ctrl flag. After downgrading the kernel back from 4.18.0 – 305 to 4.18.0 – 301.1 and rollback yum update, it working again. Do anybody having same issue ? I’m using Xeon E5-2695v4 with cluster compatibility Secure Intel Haswell. Using oVirt 4.4.6 on CentOS Stream host. Thanks before. Just to clarify... Site A has volume data2 which geo-replicates to Site B Site B has volume data1 which geo-replicates to Site A I will look at the engine upgrade and ansible today.

Cluster stuck in maintenance - Hosts not upgrading as expected

I have a 3-node hyperconverged cluster with Gluster filesystem running on RHEL 8.3 hosts. It's been stable on oVirt 4.5. Today, I just upgraded the Engine to v4.6. [Screenshot from 2021-05-22 20-29-23.png] I then logged into the oVirt manager, navigated to Compute -> Clusters, and clicked on Upgrade. The Status of the cluster does have an exclamation mark that says "Upgrade Cluster Compatibility Level", but my understanding is, I shouldn't do that until all 3 of my hosts have been upgraded. Looking at active tasks, I see that the first host in my cluster is stuck in "Upgrading". It's now been like this for 3 hours, without any visible progress. If I try to launch a VM that is not configured for high availability, the VM fails to launch, and I get a message about the cluster being in "Maintenance Mode" and that none of the hosts satisfies current scheduling restraints. How do I.... a) Cancel / clear the upgrade and take the cluster out of "maintenance mode" b) Properly upgrade the cluster, since clicking the "Upgrade" button clearly didn't work? Problems provisioning 4.4.6 hosted engine

This is a new system is CentOS 8.3, with the oVirt-4.4 repo and all updates applied. When I try to install the hosted engine with my engine backup from 4.3.10, the installation fails with a too many open files error. My 8.3 hosts already had 1M system max files, which is more than any of my CentOS 7/oVirt 4.3 hosts have. I tried increasing it to 2M with no luck, so my suspicion is that the error is on the engine itself? I tried provisioning a new engine just to test, and I get SSH key errors instead of this one. Import to VMware

Hello, Ive exported an OVA of a server we had made on OVIRT and Im trying to import it to VMware. Its complaining that the ovf:format is incorrect. ovf:format="http://www.gnome.org/~markmc/qcow-image-format.html" That link doesnt resolve to anywhere because it appears its now http://people.gnome.org/~markmc/qcow-image-format.html But I dont know whats supposed to go there nor have I been able to locate anything to help solve this issue. All I really need is access to the files in the, what I assume is, vdmk file that comes along with the ovf file, which mine is called: 154b3d77-d340-4d24-a448-66265c5fb613 So if anything, is there a way to open this vm disk so I can gain access to the files? Error Adding host to cluster

When I attempt to install a new host to my cluster from the GUI I get this set of errors/warnings, and the install fails. - Host has no default route - The Host CPU does not match the Cluster CPU Tye and is running in a degraded mode. It is missing the following CPU flags: vmx, model_Cascadelake-Server-noTSX. The new host has a brand new bare centos 8 installation on it. It successfully installed from the internet. The *new host* hardware is 48x Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2680 v3 @ 2.50GHz The *pre-existing host* is 64x Intel(R) Xeon(R) Silver 4216 CPU @ 2.10GHz If I am reading the ansible logs correctly, ansible is failing to find the *ovirt-hosted-engine-setup* package, which is confusing since I have a separate physical machine for the engine (which I am using to install from), and don't want a self hosted engine.
