Hi Simon, Usually it is the network, but you need real-world data. I would open screen sessions and run ping continiously . What about dns resolution - do you have entries in /etc/hosts ? New host: no network interfaces visible

What could cause no Network Interfaces visible in installing a new host? I have added a new host to oVirt 4.3.10, the initial SSH installs all the packages (all with failed=0 in host-deploy/*log). The installation is shown as failed without any meaningful message. However the Network Interfaces page is blank, what could cause this? Host in CentOS 7.8 tried with/without biosdevname. -- Richard Chan

Q: Hybrid GlusterFS / local storage setup?

Hello all, I'm thinking about converting a couple of old dual Xeon V2 workstations into (yet another) oVirt setup. However, the use case for this cluster is somewhat different: While I do want most of the VMs to be highly available (Via 2+1 GFS storage domain), I'd also want pin at least one "desktop" VM to each host (possibly with vGPU) and let this VM access the local storage directly in-order to get near bare metal performance. Now, I am aware that I can simply share an LVM LV over NFS / localhost and pin a specific VM to each specific host, and the performance will be acceptable, I seem to remember that there's a POSIX-FS storage domain that at least in theory should be able to give me per-host private storage. A. Am I barking at the wrong tree here? Is this setup even possible? B. If it is even possible, any documentation / pointers on setting up per-host private storage? I should mention that these workstations are quite beefy (64-128GB RAM, large MDRAID, SSD, etc) so I can spare memory / storage space (I can even split the local storage and GFS to different arrays). - Gilboa

Hi all, We have Ovirt 4.3, with 11 hosts, and need a bunch of VLANs for our student's to be isolated and do specific things. We have created the VLANs on the switch, but need to create them on the admin portal, with vlan tagging and then add them to the interface on the hosts. We are talking about 400 VLANs. I have done this manually for 4 VLANs and all works fine, but was wondering if there is a way of doing this in one go for all? So I don't have to do it 400 times (at least creating the VLANs on the admin portal). Thanks. Kim

Hyperconverged Gluster Deployment in cockpit with zfs

Hi, When I want to use zfs for software raid on my oVirt nodes instead of a hardware raid controller, I don't know what to type in "Device Name" I don't know if this step should be skipped for zfs raid, I don't know the location of my zfs vdev or if thre is anyhing else i should input. If I would set this up via CLI, no "Device Name" is needed in the process, why is it then nedded in the Hyperconverged Gluster Deployment on cockpit? There is plenty of guides for Gluster on top of zfs online, but the porcess differ because of the "Device Name"

Remove VM that failed being built from template

oVirt 4.3.6 Attempted to build 10 VMs from a template, concurrently, and apparently overloaded the 1GB link to the iSCSI storage. I now have four VMs hung in the Locked connection on the display, and no means to cancel, remove them. The all have 'Failed to complete VM **** creation.' log entries, under Events. Any suggestions on how to address?

To get a project going, I used an iSCSI SAN array of limited storage, while waiting to obtain, and make operational another iSCSI SAN of considerably more storage. I've attached the new iSCSI array to my cluster of hosts, attached a number of LUNs as additional storage domains, and move my collection of ISO and disk images to the new storage. I also detached and removed the old iSCSI storage domains I no longer need. I'm now down to the last two Storage Domains. The hosted_engine, and the last DATA domain, holding templates. Now the hard part reared its head. I need to completely detach the old iSCSI SAN array, which means I need to migrate the hosted-engine, and my small collection of templates, which I created on the old iSCSI array, to storage domains on the new iSCSI array. I'm looking for recommendations on how to do both. As to the details, I am running Oracle Linux Virtualization Manager 4.3.6, in hosted-engine mode, which means I am running oVirt 4.3.6, in hosted-engine mode. Note: I have configured the first three hosts in the cluster to support hosted-engine, so the hosted-engine can be moved around, for system maintenance.

How to clean up Storage Domain manually

We have a problem in our cluster where the storage domain was consumed almost totally so we proceed to do a release space by deleting vms and templates that are not longer needed. Despite of removal we got the following eerror message removing some assets "The Storage Domain may be manually cleaned-up from possible leftover". Also this problem is triggered when new vms are created. How can we perform a manual clean-up in the storage domain?

So, we have a cluster of 3 servers running oVirt Node 4.4.1. Now we are attempting to upgrade it to latest version, 4.4.2, but it fails as shown below. Problem is that the Storage domains listed are all located on an external iSCSI SAN. The Storage Domains were created in another cluster we had (oVirt Node 4.3 based) and detached from the old cluster and imported successfully into the new cluster through the oVirt Management interface. As I understand, oVirt itself has created the mount points under /rhev/data-center/mnt/blockSD/ for each of the iSCSI domains, and as such they are not really storaged domains on the / filesystem. I do believe the solution to the mentioned BugZilla bug has caused a new bug, but I may be wrong. I cannot see what we have done wrong when importing these storage domains to the cluster (well, actually, some were freshly created in this cluster, thus fully managed by oVirt 4.4 manager interface). What can we do to proceed in upgrading the hosts to latest oVirt Node? Hi Guys, I had a situation 2 times that due to unexpected power outage something went wrong and VMs on glusterfs where not recoverable. Gluster heal did not help and I could not start the VMs any more. Is there a way to make such setup bulletproof? Does it matter which volume type I choose - raw or qcow2? Or thin provision versus reallocated? Any other advise?

I'm looking for the latest documentation for setting up a Managed Block Device storage domain so that I can move some of my VM images to ceph rbd. I found this: https://ovirt.org/develop/release-management/features/storage/cinderlib-int… ...but it has a big note at the top that it is "...not user documentation and should not be treated as such." The oVirt administration guide[1] does not talk about managed block devices. I've found a few mailing list threads that discuss people setting up a Managed Block Device with ceph, but didn't see any links to documentation steps that folks were following. How can I Disable console Single Sign On by default

Dear all. I'm trying to setup an oVirt environment able to provide VMs to a small number of users. I'm just using the "internal" domain and I defined some users and groups using ovirt-aaa-jdbc-tool. Everything seems to work, the users cal log-in into the VM portal and they can create VM. The problem comes out when I try to access the VM console: in order to be able to open the noVNC console, I need to set Disable Single Sign On on the console settings of the VM. But this is only possible using the Administrator portal and I couldn't find a way to do it "as user". How can I allow users to open the noVNC console from the VM portal? Is there a way to set Disable Single Sign On by default? Thanks a lot Riccardo

After upgrading to 4.3.10 from 4.3.9, when doing VM backups after hours, we started to have VMs freeze/pause during nightly backup runs. We expect the increased load exposes the issue. i am trying to downgrade collectd version on oVirt engine from 5.10.0 to 5.8.4 using ansible, but getting error while doing so. Ovirt Node 4.4.2 install Odroid-H2 64GB eMMC

Hi All, I'm trying to install node 4.4.2 on an eMMC card, but when I get to the storage configuration of the installer, it doesn't save the settings (which is automatic configuration) I have chosen and displays failed to save storage configuration. I have deleted all partitions on the card before trying to install and I still get the same error. The only way I can get it to go is select manual configuration with LVM thin provisioning and automatically create. Am I doing something wrong. I can install Centos 8 no issues on this, but not oVirt node 4.4.2.

Number of data bricks per oVirt HCI host

Hello, I am getting some questions from others on my team. I have some hosts that could provide up to 6 JBOD disks for oVirt data (not arbiter) bricks Would this be workable / advisable ? I'm under the impression there should not be more than 1 data brick per HCI host . Please correct me if I'm wrong. Thank You For Your Help !

Good day! Made a fresh installation of 4.4.2 Self Hosted Engine (not an upgrade from 4.4.1) however there is no link to the Monitoring portal on the home page. Service ovirt-engine-dwhd started and work. Grafana-server service not present in /etc/systemd and not configured. Please tell me what needs to be done to make the monitoring portal work? PS// In the previous version installation 4.4.1 SHE the grafana-server worked immediately after installation and the link to the monitoring portal was available immediately without any additional steps.

Hello. After an upgrade I am not able to upload images anymore via the ovirt ui. When testing the connection, I always get the error message "Connection to ovirt-imageio-proxy service has failed. Make sure the service is installed, configured, and ovirt-engine certificate is registered as a valid CA in the browser.". I found out that the imageio daemon doesn't listen on port 54323 anymore, so the browser can not connect to it. The daemon is configured to listen on port 54323 though: # cat /etc/ovirt-imageio/conf.d/50-engine.conf [...] [remote] port = 54323 [...] The imageio daemon has been started successfully on the engine host as well as on the other hosts. I am currently stuck, what should I do next? The ovirt version I am using is 4.4. There is one machine running the ovirt engine and there are 2 additional hosts. The OS on the machines is Centos 8. Upgrade oVirt Host from 4.4.0 to 4.4.2 fails

Hey, Bunch of hosts installed from oVirt Node Image, i have upgraded the self-hosted Engine successfully. I have ran Check Upgrade on one of the hosts and it was entitled for an upgrade. I use the UI to let it Upgrade, after multiple retries it always fails on "Prepare NGN host for upgrade." so i chose another host as a test. I have set the Host into Maintenance and let all the VMs migrate successfully. made sure i do have the latest 4.4.2 repo (it was 4.4.0) yum install https://resources.ovirt.org/pub/yum-repo/ovirt-release44.rpm And issued "dnf upgrade" Installing: ovirt-openvswitch replacing openvswitch.x86_64 2.11.1-5.el8 ovirt-openvswitch-ovn replacing ovn.x86_64 2.11.1-5.el8 ovirt-openvswitch-ovn-host replacing ovn-host.x86_64 2.11.1-5.el8 ovirt-python-openvswitch replacing python3-openvswitch.x86_64 2.11.1-5.el8 Upgrading: ovirt-node-ng-image-update-placeholder Installing dependencies: openvswitch2.11 ovirt-openvswitch-ovn-common ovn2.11 ovn2.11-host python3-openvswitch2.11 Installing weak dependencies: network-scripts-openvswitch network-scripts-openvswitch2.11 It was very quick, but nothing else happened, I did try to reboot the host but I still see the host as oVirt 4.4.0 and as expected it still says that an update is available.

VM reboot cause SERVER reboot (oVirt 4.4.2)

Hi all, I've a SUPERMICRO server with a M10 GPU (at the moment i've a free-trial license) and i'm using oVirt 4.4.2. My issue is very strange and it seems to be a bug because i can reproduce it: 1. Create a VM (i've tested on Win10Pro/WinServer2012R2) with a vGPU and install the driver (without driver installed, this issue does not appear); 2. Restart the VM. At this point the physical server restarts. Instead, when i shutdown the windows vm, this issue is not appear. I've also tried with a centos 8 vm and it works very well (no reboot). All NVIDIA driver's are update at the 2020-09-30 latest release (11.0). All windows driver are installed (virtio-win-0.1.189). The VM works very well and the vGPU too. This is my very first test with vGPU and i can't understand the reason of this issue. NVIDIA enterprise support told me that it's an ovirt problem, because Windows guest operating system are supported only under Red Hat subscription programs. Has anyone else had the same problem or can you help me? Thank you in advance

oVirt 4.4 - HA Proxy Fencing

I have a pair of nodes which service DNS / NTP / FTP / AD /Kerberos / IPLB etc.. ns01, ns02 These two "infrastructure VMs have HA Proxy and pacemaker and I have set to have "HA" within ovirt and node affinity. But.. within HAProxy, the nodes use to be able to call the STONITH function of KVM to reset a node if / as needed. Fence Device: "stonith:fence_virsh" But with oVirt this function no longer works. For VMs and other applications which need STONITH functions, how would this be done with oVirt. I would assume the call would be to oVirt-Engine now, but not seeing documentation on HA-Proxy / Pacemaker to use oVirt. Can someone point me in the right direction? -- penguinpages

Fencing with oVirt 4.4 apc master switch

I use to have hand built CentOS+KVM + Gluster. Moved to HCI oVirt controlled system and so far, been very happy with stability and quality. One feature that was working in old "hand build" version was fencing. I have an old APC master switch AP9606. I use to have and use it for master switch functions of nodes but sense replacement with oVirt it has not worked. Here are setup notes and symptoms IP: 172.16.100.2 Username: apc Password: <blah> Port 8 (it is an eight port unit) Slot: <empty as I have no idea what is expects here I also input values here but no change> Error: Test failed: WARNING:root:Parse error: Ignoring option 'agent' because it does not have value ERROR:root:Unable to connect/login to fencing device 2020-10-11 11:28:50,885 ERROR: Unable to connect/login to fencing device Questions: 1) Has anyone setup this with oVirt such that it uses apc master switch 2) Where is oVirt putting these logs / running this service. too many glitches while moving storage domain

Hi, today I started one not so common operation and I would like to share my (not so good) experience. I have 4 old Opteron G3 hosts which creates 1 DC with 1 cluster with 4.2 compatibility. Then I got 2 newer Intel based hosts which creates separate DC and cluster. I use one shared FC storage with few LUNs for all the stuff. Intel cluster is selfhosted with oVirt 4.4.2 where I migrated original standalone oVirt 4.3.10 manager. So I have 2 DCs, one with 4.2 and one with 4.4 compatibility. Now the funny part... I had 2 LUNs connected to old 4.2 DC. My intention was detach one of them and attach it to the new DC. first pain was that some of vms had ther disks on both LUNs. It is indicated late in the process and without hint which vms they are. So I had to activate LUN in old DC and tried to find that vms (search string in vms tab "Storage = one and Storage = two" seems not working). Ok, it took two or three rounds... then, also late in the process there was problem that one vm had previewed snapshot so another round with activation of LUN in old DC... Then I was able detach and import LUN to new DC. Nice, but with warning that LUN has 4.2 compatibility which will be converted to 4.4 and there is no way back to connect it to old DC... It is logical but very scary if something went wrong... but it did not in my case :-) LUN is connected in new DC. Now I had to import vms. Most vms were imported ok but two of them were based on template wich resides on other LUN. It was not indicated during detaching! It looks like I cannot move template from storage to storage other way than through Export storage (which I don't have at this moment) or through OVA export for which I have not enough free storage space on hosts. Its a trap! :-) Btw. there is no check for free space while starting export to OVA (template uses preallocated disk). Exporting task still runs but there is no free space at the host... and probably no way to cancel it from manager :-( Ok, I had most of the vms imported. Last really strange thing is that I lost one vm during import. It is not listed in VirtualMachines nor in VM import tab on starage nor in Disk tab... that vm was an Aruba migration tool and was imported from OVN image. In fact there are two disks in Disk import tab, one of them has no Alias/description and was created today around time I started work on this migration. The second one has alias "vmdisk1" and is few months older but I have no idea if it is the lost vm... Hi Simon, I doubt the system needs tuning from network perspective. I guess you can run some 'screen'-s which a pinging another system and logging everything to a file. Moving VM disks from one storage domain to another. Automate?

I am looking for an automated way, via Ansible to move a VM disk from one storage domain to another. I found the following, https://docs.ansible.com/ansible/latest/modules/ovirt_disk_module.html and while it mentions copying a VM disk image from one domain to another it does not mention a live storage migration. Which is what I am looking to do. I want to take roughly 100 VMs and move their disk images from one domain to another that is available to the datacenter in some automated/scripted fashion. I am just curious if anyone out there has had to do this and how they tackled it. Or perhaps I am missing some easy obvious way, other than clicking all the disks and clicking move. However from the looks of it, if I did click all the disk and selected move, it appears RHV tries to do them all at once, which is probably not ideal, I would like it to move the disks in a serial One after another fashion, to conserve throughput and IO. I also did not see anything on Ansible galaxy or the ovirt github that would do this. Thank you.

ldap auth problem after upgrade from 4.4.1 to 4.4.2

Hi, I just upgraded my HE to 4.4.2 but now I cannot login using my ldap aaa profile anymore. We are using Novell/NetIQ E-directory (load ballanced by haproxy, probably not important...) Hello, I'm testing upgrade from 4.3.10 to 4.4.2 for a standalone manager with local database environment. I configured the new engine system as a CentOS 8.2 with a proxy in /etc/yum.conf (that is a link to /etc/dnf/dnf.com) and that worked for all the steps until engine-setup.
