IO Storage Error / All findings / Need help.

Hello folks, I am running a 3-way, no arbiter Gluster setup using oVirt and contained Gluster 6.7. After a crash we are unable to start any VMs due to Storage IO error. After much, much backtracking and debugging we are closing in on the symptons, albeit not the issue. Conditions: - gluster volume is healthy, - No outstanding heal or split-brain files, - 3 way without arbiter nodes (3 copies), - I already ran several "heal full" commands. There is no obvious data corruption. However launching any VM out of oVirt fails with "IO Storage Error". This is where everything gets funny. oVirt uses a vdsm user to access all the files. Findings: - root can read, edit and write all files inside the ovirt mounted gluster path. - vdsm user can write to new files regardless of size without any issues; changes get replicated instantly to other nodes. - vdsm user can append to existing files regardless of size without any issues; changes get replicated instantly to other nodes. - vdsm user can read files if those files are smaller than 64mb. - vdsm user gets permission denied errors if the file to be read is 65mb or bigger. - vdsm user gets permission denied errors if the requests crosses a gluster shard-file boundary. - if root does a "dd if=file_larger_than64mb" of=/dev/null" on any large file, the file can then be read by the vdsm user on that single node. Changes do not get replicated to other nodes. We are out of ideas and also no experts on either gluster nor ovirt, it seems. And this is supposed to be a production HA environment. Any help would be appreciated. oVirt behavior with thin provision/deduplicated block storage

Hi, I have an oVirt cluster with a storage domain hosted on a FC storage array that utilises block de-duplication technology. oVirt reports the capacity of the domain as though the de-duplication factor was 1:1, which of course is not the case. So what I would like to understand is the likely behavior of oVirt when the used space approaches the reported capacity. Particularly around the critical action space blocker. Thanks, Alan

New Host Migration Failure & Console Failure

Good Day I have installed new oVirt platform with hosted engine, but when I add a new host, the notification keeps repeating "Finished Activating Host" and it does not stop until I select do not disturb for 1 day. (Screenshot attached) Also once the new host has been added, I am unable to migrate a VM to it, if I start a VM up on the new host, I am unable to migrate the VM away from it or launch a console. So I am messing around with FreeNAS and iSCSI. FreeNAS has a target configured, it is discoverable in oVirt, but then I click "OK" nothing happens. I have a name for the domain defined and have expanded the advanced features, but cannot find it anything showing an error. oVirt 4.3.8

metrics-store installation

Hello! I have installed metrics store along this documentation: https://ovirt.org/documentation/metrics-install-guide/Installing_Metrics_St… Everything went fine without errors, so I have now the login page in my browser. The Problem is that the credentials for login seems to be not taken over. The user should be 'admin' and the password is given at the beginning in secure_vars.yaml. paused vm's will not resume

I have 2 vm's, which are the most important in my world, that paused and will not resume. I have googled this to death but no solution. It stated a lack of space but none of the drives on my hosts are using more than 30% or there space and these 2 have ran on kvm host for several years and always had at least 50% free space. I like ovirt and want to use it but I cannot tolerate the down time. If I cannot get this resolved, I'm going back to kvm hosts. I am pulling my hair out here. If anyone can help with this issue, please let me know.

Hugepages and running out of memory

Hi, this e-mail is meant to caution people using hugepages and mixing those VMs with non-hugepages VMs on the same hypervisors. I ran into major trouble, the hypervisors ran out of memory because the VM scheduling disregards the hugepages in it's calculations. Understanding dashboard memory data

Hello, I'm having to deal with an oVirt installation, once I log in the dashboard says: Memory: "1.2 Available of 4.5 TiB" and "Virtual resources - Committed: 113%, Allocated: 114%". So, clearly there is RAM available, but what's with the committed and allocated numbers? Regards

Good day, Whenever i am trying to use the change CD to mount the ovirt tools iso so i can install windows server or any windows it says "could not find ISO file collection".It doesn't pick up the hdd that i have created in the windwos setup so i have to do the whole ovirt tools mount and select the windows i want to insteall etc. It has been working fine until a couple of days ago when we had power outages. I also noticed that the storage domain,ovirt-image-repository is unattached... How do i go about fixing this problem or where can i check logs. I have checked the permissions where the ISO's or images are stored.

Spacewalk Integration

I finally figured out how to use Spacewalk as an external provider in Ovirt. For the URL I used http://sat.digitaldatatechs.com/XMLRPC and used the admin login credentials. It registered and Spacewalk has the capability of provisioning a bare bones machine. I have not tested provisioning but I will comment once I do.

Unsynced entries do not self-heal during upgrade from oVirt 4.2 -> 4.3

Hi all, I'm in the process of upgrading oVirt-nodes from 4.2 to 4.3. After upgrading the first of 3 oVirt/gluster nodes, there are between 600-1200 unsynced entries for a week now on 1 upgraded node and one not-yet-upgraded node. The third node (also not-yet-upgraded) says it's OK (no unsynced entries). The cluster doesn't seem to be very busy, but somehow self-heal doesn't complete. Is this because of different gluster versions across the nodes and will it resolve as soon as I upgraded all nodes? Since it's our production cluster, I don't want to take any risk... Does anybody recognise this problem? Of course I can provide more information if necessary. Any hints on troubleshooting the unsynced entries are more than welcome! Thanks in advance! Hi. ISO domains were deprecated. Now you should use a Data Domain instead and fill with the ISOs. If you still using ISO Domain, like me, I only scp the ISOs directly to the storage. You don’t need to use the ISO uploader script. I never made it work anyway LOL. new glance server

Hi to all. I'm try to create a glance server to store our images, but I have some problem. With the guide i can correcty configure a "train" minimun stack with keyone and glance, but it only support auth api v3. oVirt for glance only support v2. The newest version of keystone that have the v2 api, is Pike, but it cannot be insalled on centos today. Where a can fine an old repo with pike packages? or how can i make a glance installation that doesn't require autentication? Error with LDAP

Hello everyone. I have previously configured LDAP connexion though ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-ldap-setup. The only working configuration was IBM Security Directory Server (the IBM Security Directory Server RFC-2307 Schema doesn't work), ladps and anonymous search user. But the LDAP server I’m testing is OpenLDAP and not IBM. Indeed with IBM the search and login are working fine when I test them with ovirt-engine-extensions-tool aaa. But when I try to add a LDAP User in the User Administration Panel I get this Error message : "Error while executing action AddUser : Internal Engine Error". None of the solutions I've found on previous threads seems to works. Does someone have an idea please ? Please find the logs attached. Thank you beforehand. populating the ISO domain

This may be common knowledge so if it is redundant, apologies. My ISO domain did not populate automatically but with some research I found out how to utilize it and populate it. If you have it in place with the correct permissions and security, you can manually populate it using the api. From the engine host at the command prompt: # ovirt-iso-uploader list This gives you the name of your iso domain. If it prompts for a passwd, it should the the same as the admin@internal login. The to upload files and populate it: ovirt-iso-uploader -i ISO upload *.iso or *vfd for floppy images I hope this helps.

Hello, Currently i have a standalone ovirt on a primary site and planning to create a DR but my DR lacks a baremetal that has a same resources on primary site. is it possible on DR to have multiple hyper-visors then automatically assign where the vm should run/attach automatically?

Error with LDAP

Hello everyone. I have previously configured LDAP connexion though ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-ldap-setup. The only working configuration was IBM Security Directory Server (the IBM Security Directory Server RFC-2307 Schema doesn't work), ladps and anonymous search user. But the LDAP server I’m testing is OpenLDAP and not IBM. Indeed with IBM the search and login are working fine when I test them with ovirt-engine-extensions-tool aaa. But when I try to add a LDAP User in the User Administration Panel I get this Error message : "Error while executing action AddUser : Internal Engine Error". I've been part of this mailing list for a while now and have received a lot of great advice and help on various subjects. I read the list daily and one thing I've noticed is that many users are curious about backup options for oVirt (myself included). I wanted to share with the community a solution I've come up with to easily backup multiple running oVirt VMs to OVA format using some basic Ansible playbooks. Hi Jeremy, I think you must have run the engine-setup before the restore, the restore is designed to restore to a clean install or the previous install with the same credentials. Hi all, Since we upgraded our Ovirt nodes to CentOS 7 a vm (not a specific one but never more then one) will sometimes pause suddenly with the error "VM ... has paused due to unknown storage error". It happens now two times in a month. The Ovirt node uses san storage for the vm's running on it. When a specific vm is pausing with an error the other vm's keeps running without problems. The vm runs without problems after unpausing it. foreman integration

I have ovirt 4.3 and foreman 1.9.3. both with self signed certificates. Foreman is a vm on the ovirt cluster. I added foreman as an external provider in ovirt, but when I try to add ovirt as a compute resource in foreman I get an ssl error. I found several fixes that prevented the error but the data center and quota fields would not populate. The exact error is: Unable to save SSL_connect returned=1 errno=0 state=error: certificate verify failed Has anyone else had this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Move Self Hosted Engine to Standalone

I have a single oVirt host running a self-hosted engine. I'd like to move the engine off the host and run it on a standalone server. I am running Software Version:4.3.6.6-1.el7 Can anyone tell me what the procedure is for that?

Hi there, for two weeks we are trying to move our hosted engine to a glusterfs storage resulting in an error "Domain format is different from master storage domain format". The newly created storage domain has version 5 (default since compatibility level 4.3 according to documentation). Hosted engine version is 4.3.8.2-1.el7 All hosts are updated to the latest versions and are rebooted. Cluster and DataCenter compatibility version is 4.3. Master data domain and all other domains are Format V4 and there is no V5 available in dropdown menus. Even if I try to create a new storage domain from manager there is only V4 available. The system and all hosts where installed march 2019 so it was ovirt release 4.3.2 or 4.3.1 which created the existing domains. Is there a way to update the master storage domain to V5? It seems I cannot downgrade the datacenter to compat 4.2 and then raise it again. After two weeks I'm out of ideas. Can anyone help please? Regards, Marcel

Hi am trying to upgrade our ovirt hosts and engine in our Hyperconverged 4.3.6 environment to 4.3.7, we do not want to go to 4.3.8. Where can I find the correct repositories for 4.3.7 specific to the engine and the ones for the hosts? Thank you Adrian

Hi All, I found that there is rarely topics about supporting dpdk in ovirt 4.2 in Internet except https://blogs.ovirt.org/2018/07/upgraded-dpdk-support-in-ovirt/; and I can't get information such as whether or not should I install dpdk or ovn manual? And I will get an error when I execute such cmds: ansible-playbook ovirt.dpdk-setup/tasks/main.yml ansible-playbook oVirt.dpdk-setup I have some experience about ovn and dpdk, but I can't make ovirt supporting dpdk according the instruction in https://blogs.ovirt.org/2018/07/upgraded-dpdk-support-in-ovirt/; Is there anybody helping me? Hi, I have previously configured LDAP though ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-ldap-setup. The only working configuration was IBM Security Directory Server (the IBM Security Directory Server RFC-2307 Schema doesn't work), ladps and anonymous search user. With this one the search and login are working fine when I test them with ovirt-engine-extensions-tool aaa. But when I try to add a LDAP User in the User Administration Panel I get this Error message : "Error while executing action AddUser : Internal Engine Error" None of the solutions I've found on previous threads seems to works. Does someone have an idea please ? Please find the logs attached. Thank you beforehand.
