[Users] using virt-v2v

Got this error on a Fedora 16 box : virt-v2v: Installation failed because the following files referenced in the configuration file are required, but missing: /usr/share/virtio-win/drivers/i386/Win2008 What is this? Fedora does not have a virtio-win package but has an .iso. Does libguestfs take care of this need? Hi I have decided to bite the bullet and re-install everything,.... Can someone check and see if this idea seems like it will work... I will have 3 servers - 1. Ovirt engine (Lan address + external address) : name - frontend.server.com - 2. Storage server - debian NFS server (LAN address only) : name - storage1.server.com - 3. Ovirt node (from the node .iso) - I will set up Ovirt on an enternal; IP: name - node1.server.com In order to get the best speed (i.e by using LAN address's) I shall add the 2nd LAN interface on the node as a LAN address - (So it can comminicate with the storage node) .. Should I add the LAN address's of the ovirt node and storage on the frontend to /etc/hosts (i.e not the external IP - 10.0.0.x) ? Or will cause issues (like before) - I want it to send as much traffic via the LAN rather than external network (for speed) (also shall I add the frontend / storage to /etc/hosts on the node ?) Any ideas will be welcomed. [Users] vdsm issue

Hello, I'm not sure if this is proper list but maybe someone will help. I'm trying to start ovirt-engine and node on same server but it appears that vdsm has strange problem. Hi I have been trying for hours to install a vm in Ovirt and having no joy., Spice is not working - I just get a black popup window I am connecting from a Fedora16 desktop - I have spice-XPI installed. can see 'press Shift+f12' to release mouse.... etc. My setup :- I have a 3 server setup - 1. Ovirt engine (Lan address + external address) - 2. Storage node - NFS server (LAN address and external address) - 3. Ovirt node (from the node .iso) - only LAN address The Engine server is a default FC16 install. the node is from the ovirt node .iso. I don't think its firewall related - I tried disabling firewalls on all servers. Once I try spice the icon is greyed out afterwards. In IRC it was suggested to run Bind from server 1 - I have done that and added DNS entrys in the LAN range for all 3 servers - all 3 servers are using bind from server1 as their only nameserver in resolv.conf I am trying to connect from my Fedora16 Desktop When I try to connect I see in /var/log/messages Mar 1 19:34:43 fedora16 spice: Warning: failed to connect: Connection timed out (110) Any ideas how to investigate this further. I am dying to test out a VM but with no spice I am presently unable to... [Users] Can someone help me with moving a windows server 2008 to ovirt?

So I have been looking at how to move windows 2008 and R2 servers from vmware esxi4 over to ovirt. I moved my Linux servers over with clonezilla. But windows needs a sysprep and generalize not to mention uninstalling vmtools and vmware drivers. I have done this. I then use clonezilla to put the image onto a thinprovisioned drive on ovirt. It starts to boot then blue screen of death. Am I missing something other than syspreping the windows machine and uninstalling the vmware drivers? Also is there a better way? P.S. Also I have ovirt up in a production envirenment and is running rock solid for the past month great job guys! Hi, I was reading on deploying spice on ovirt here - http://www.ovirt.org/wiki/Testing/Spice There is specific line there that says - A Linux client machine with spice client and spice xpi installed (packages spice-client and spice-xpi in Fedora/RHEL). It's not possible to connect to a guest from Windows client through Ovirt yet. Is above still valid? Can I use spice client on windows and connect to guest OS on KVM-ovirt? Thanks, Sawan

[Users] Q on ovirt datacentre and host storage types

Hi, got few basic Qs in my mind. Appreciate a response. 1) Why is it that the data domains must be of the same type as that of datacentre ? What is the goal behind having this constraint ? It seems useful to have a datacentre w/o having any storage restrictions.. i should be able to add hosts w/o worrying abt the storage types... why is it not so... looking to understand the reason behind this design decision. 2) If i have a set of host systems all connected to shared FC storage, is there a way for me to configure LUNs exclusively for each host, meaning have ability to control what LUN each hosts sees ? Can this be done using oVirt today ? My understanding is that this cannot be done via ovirt, zoning of LUNs to host has to be done separately and not via ovirt, is that correct ? 3) If i have to create and run 1000 VMs (say), how can i automate that using ovirt, what is the best way to do that ? thanx, deepak

I have serveral "old" KVM virtual images, all off them using virtio for networking and disks. Trying to import these into my EXPORT datastore ends up with an error: virt-v2v -i libvirt -o rhev -os 10.0.0.3:/nfs/export -n br0 PXE5-test PXE5.img: 100% [=====================================================] virt-v2v: WARNING: Unable to convert this guest operating system. Its storage will be transfered and a domain created for it, but it may not operate correctly without manual reconfiguration. The domain will present all storage devices as ide, all network interfaces as rtl8139 and the host as x86_64. virt-v2v: PXE5-test configured without virtio drivers. How can I avoid these errors? How can I fix this error. After restoring the image, I am able to change the network interface from rtl8139 to Virtio. However; I cannot change the disk. In the admin console going to Virtual Machines --> <virtual machine> --> Virtual Disks --> <disk> --> Edit gives a menu, but the only option I can change is "is bootable". Options like "Interface" are grey and cannot be modified.

While reading oVirt Wiki and other related docs, I came across multiple terms that meant the same thing (at least to me). Please take a look and let me know where I am wrong. 1) Difference between RHEV and oVirt node - oVirt node has VDSM and libvirt whereas RHEV only has libvirt. 2) 'RHEV-M server' is same as 'oVirt Engine Mgmt Server' is same as 'oVirt Engine'. 3) 'oVirt API' is same as 'REST API' is same as 'RHEV-M API' which is same as 'oVirt Engine API'. 4) 'Host Agent' is same as VDSM 5) 'oVirt Node API' is same as VDSM API. Question ) Guest Agent is running on VM. How does it get installed there? Regards, Sharad Mishra
