migration enhancements feature
by Tomas Jelinek
Hi all,
there is an effort for enhancing the speed and convergence of the migrations (especially for large VMs).
The feature page targeted for 4.0 is [1].
TL;DR:
- remove current logic from VDSM and move to engine in form of policies
- employ post-copy migration
- employ traffic shaping
- protect destination VDSM against migration storms
Any comments more than welcome!
Tomas

[QE][ACTION REQUIRED] oVirt 3.5.5 Status
by Sandro Bonazzola
Hi,
We're planning to start composing oVirt 3.5.5 RC on *2015-09-16 08:00 UTC*
from 3.5 branches, pending feedback on networking issues resolution.
There are still 55 bugs [1] targeted to 3.5.5.
There are 7 bugs [4] marked as regressions.
Developers should work to push patches in prior to the build date,
patches that will not be in will be pushed to 3.5.6.
Action items:
- Please check Jenkins status for 3.5 jobs and sync with relevant
maintainers if there are issues.
- Please fill release notes, the page has been created here [2]
- Please test oVirt 3.5 nightly snapshot and add yourself to the test
page[3]

NetworkManager in Ovirt-Node
by Tolik Litovsky
Hi
I see that NetworkManager was added as dependency of ovirt node.
It is problematic since it tries to take control of interfaces for which we
have no ifcfg file.
Does any of vdsm code use NetworkManager service ?

Error while signing in application
by Neha Agarwal
Hi
I'm really new to oVirt and basically plan to work on moVirt for which I'm
setting up the engine.
I'm running livecd of oVirt on my machine because of some reasons it's not
getting installed in the virtual environment(after booting it shows a black
loading screen which continues forever). I used VirtualBox on Ubuntu and
gave 6gb RAM to the machine. I have abandoned virtual environment as of now.
Now I boot the OS with livecd, the engine setup completes successfully and
I can open the localdomain and add new VMs but I get this error when
logging in the app(screenshots attached).
My laptop and mobile are connected to different LAN ports(different IP
addresses). There's no option of connecting laptop to same wifi(no wifi
enable option in ovirt).
Can I get some help please. I'm totally new to the working of oVirt but I
wish to learn and proceed.
Thanks
Neha

In my environment i want to use ovirt-ga replace qemu-ga.
Hypervisor is Ubuntu 14.04 (OpenStack Icehouse) and the virtual machine
is Ubuntu 14.04 cloudimage.
In Hypervisor launch a instance and attach a chardev, like:
# ps -ef | grep guest_agent
libvirt+ 2649 1 1 Sep08 ? 00:15:36
/usr/bin/qemu-system-x86_64 ...
-chardev
socket,id=charchannel0,path=/var/lib/libvirt/qemu/org.qemu.guest_agent.0.instance-00000210.sock,server,nowait
-device
virtserialport,bus=virtio-serial0.0,nr=1,chardev=charchannel0,id=channel0,name=org.qemu.guest_agent.0
...
In virtual machine was installed ovirt-guest-agent 1.0.11-1.1 and service
running OK.
But i don't know how to get memory usage and other information in
hypervisor(OpenStack compute node)? I have failed when i try to use linux
command 'socat' and python socket.
I need some sample or link.
Thanks a lot!
Nick Xiao

I took a look at the libvirt domain XML from one of my running oVirt
VMs and found the following device:
<channel type='unix'>
<source mode='bind'
path='/var/lib/libvirt/qemu/channels/14182ea9-c01f-428d-ac67-5a7e2639c931.com.redhat.rhevm.vdsm'/>
<target type='virtio' name='com.redhat.rhevm.vdsm'
state='disconnected'/>
<alias name='channel0'/>
<address type='virtio-serial' controller='0' bus='0' port='1'/>
</channel>
You might try adding this to your VM. I'm almost certain that
ovirt-ga searches for a device with the name 'com.redhat.rhevm.vdsm'
when starting up. Once you are connected, take a look at
vdsm/virt/guestagent.py in the vdsm source code for hints about how to
talk to the agent.
