[Users] oVirt Workshop at LinuxCon Japan 2012
by Leslie Hawthorn
Hello everyone,
As part of our efforts to raise awareness of and educate more developers
about the oVirt project, we will be holding an oVirt workshop at
LinuxCon Japan, taking place on June 8, 2012. You can find full details
of the workshop agenda on the LinuxCon Japan site. [0]
Registration for the workshop is now open and is free of charge for the
first 50 participants. We will also look at adding additional
participant slots to the workshop based on demand.
Attendees who register for LinuxCon Japan via the workshop registration
link [1] will also be eligible for a discount on their LinuxCon Japan
registration.
Please spread the word to folks you think would find the workshop
useful. If they have already registered for LinuxCon Japan, they can
simply edit their existing registration to include the workshop.

[Users] How to configure sharedFS ?
by Deepak C Shetty
Hi,
From vdsm code i can see support for storage domain of type SHARED_FS
But when trying to configure a new storage domain, i don't see SHARED_FS
as a available domtype filed in the dropdown.
I want to use shared FS to connect to try and connect to gluster mount
point on my node, but unable to as I don't see that option.
From http://www.ovirt.org/wiki/Features/PosixFSConnection - I understand
that its the same as sharedFS, so what is PosixFSConnection then, is it
just a new interface that provides a wrapper for what is sharedFS now ?
The status of this says Done, but I don't see the UI part of this, am I
missing something.
Also pls let me know if usign sharedFS to make the node use gluster mount
is correct or not ?
thanx,
deepak

No, it was from source. (git clone)
> 2. Was it an UPGRADE for the engine?
yes, I updated the source which was about a month old.
> 3. Do you have /etc/pki/ovirt-engine/.keystore available? did it
> changed recently?
There is no .keystore in /etc/pki/ovirt-engine. But rest of the files
in this directory were modified on 4/17 (certs, keys, private,
requests). I was playing with kerberos for ldap on 17th so it is
possible that I did something that messed up the server, and it was
just coincidental that I upgraded the source next day and ran into
this issue.
Any help on how I can get out of it?

Hi.
Test the ability to work as a storage server glusterfs. Direct support to
glusterf ovirt unfortunately not.
This feature will be added in the future?
Attempted to implement a scheme of work -> glusterfs mounted on a node in a
folder mount glusterfs connected via NFS to ovirt.
It works =)
Now try to mount NFS to 127.0.0.1 and encountered an error:
Command:
[root@noc-4-m77 ~] # / bin / mount-o soft, timeo = 600, retrans = 6,
nosharecache, vers = 3 -t nfs 127.0.0.1 :/share/tmp /tmpgcOezk
Error:
mount.nfs: Unknown error 521
NFS V4 is disabled.
In this mount:
/bin/mount -t nfs 127.0.0.1:/share/ tmp/tmpgtsoetsk is successful.
I understand that this is not a problem ovirt, but you might prompt any
ideas how to fix it?
To use glusterfs in overt to execute a commandL
Mount -t glusterfs -o log-level = WARNING, log-file = /var/log/gluster.log
noc-1 :/mht / /share
I can prescribe it in vdsm that it was carried out instead of /bin/mount-o

[Users] Guests accessing multiple host disks in oVirt
by Oded Ben Ozer
Hi folks,
I'm trying to evaluate ovrit as a possible virtualization solution for
my datacenter .
I need some of my VMs to have access to multiple disks installed in the
host so that the RAID will be configured in the guest level, this way I
can optimize redundancy and /IO performance per guest. (raid0 vs raid10 vs
raid 5) - this would be similar to what EC2/Openstack
call ephemeral storage.
Is this possible in oVirt ?
A less desirable solution would be to create different RAID arrays in the
host and place VM images on different arrays, is that possible ?
( according to the pdf guide this is possible in RHEL but not in oVirt
node ?!? )

[Users] booting a vm on a raw file disk definated in a hook script
by Nathanaël Blanchet
This is a multi-part message in MIME format.
--------------090904070002010509050300
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit
Hi all,
I'm using this hook script :
http://gerrit.ovirt.org/gitweb?p=vdsm.git;a=blob;f=vdsm_hooks/vmdisk/befo...
My goal is to boot a vm on a vm image imported form libvirt/kvm. I want
to use this single image, that is to say without importing it into ovirt
with tools like v2v.
acathrow told me on irc that I'd have to change the boot order in the
xml, but I don't know how to proceed for many reasons:
* I can't create a vm through the UI which would boot on the disk
created by the hook script without first creating a disk on the
relevant storage domain. If I try I have those warnings :
hook: Cannot run VM without at least one bootable disk.
Alternatives:
-Create a disk for this VM, and rerun the VM.
-Change the boot sequence using the Edit VM command (Boot Option
Sub-Tab).
-Use the Run-Once command to select a different boot option and
rerun the VM.
* If I run a vm with the first disk from the storage domain and an
additional disk from the hook script, how could I change the boot
order in the xml definition file if I don't know the xml definition
of the main disk?
thanks all for your help
