Re: [Users] Users Digest, Vol 8, Issue 29
by Christian Espinoza
Hello Andrew - Keith, I noticed that on my Ovirt node server the nfs folder
are mounted with nfs4:
[root@int-ovn-f01 ~]# mount | grep iso
int-ovm-f01:/iso/ on /rhev/data-center/mnt/int-ovm-f01:_iso type nfs4
(rw,relatime,vers=4,rsize=1048576,wsize=1048576,namlen=255,soft,nosharecache
,proto=tcp,port=0,timeo=600,retrans=6,sec=sys,clientaddr=10.0.0.11,minorvers
ion=0,local_lock=none,addr=10.0.0.10)
I have two servers, one built with overt node iso image, and the engine
server, the
Nfs iso folder are at the engine server, and mounted on the ovirt node
server...

Presuming no other issues (selinux, etc) then on the main storage tab select
the ISO domain and on the Images subtab if it's not listed there hit the
refresh button.
Did you upload via iso uploader or copy manually?

engine only deals today with mac address pools, which you can use dhcp to
assign.

Greetings all,
I've set up a new oVirt installation and it's behaving strangely with regard
to virtual machine image files on the NFS storage. Whenever I shut down a
machine it's changing the owner of the image to root:root (0:0) instead of
vdsm:kvm (36:36). After that it can't start or do anything with that image
again until I manually change the ownership back. Everything works fine
again until I shut the machine down. I assume this is some mistake I've
made in installation. I did not have this problem in the test environment,
but I'm stumped as to what went wrong.

The closest google turns up is a thread from March, in which there was some
mention of a change in the way metadata is read. Might be a red herring, but
here's that thread:

Hi,
I'm new to oVirt myself but I thought that the top level directory name was
the UUID of the storage pool. In that case the UUID it lists
(af5bcc86-898a-11e1-9632-003048c85226) isn't there. Have you looked
directly on the storage machine itself? Perhaps the node can't see that
directory due to permission issues?

Hi Jacob - thanks for the response. The thought crossed my mind as well but
I'm not sure if that UUID should indeed directly correspond to a directory.
I haven't poked around the storage pools before. If that's the case, I do
wonder what happened to my pool, and also what those other directories
are...
Best,

it appears that connectStoragePool command fails with the following error:
Thread-65664::ERROR::2012-05-09
13:17:46,922::dispatcher::66::Storage.Dispatcher.Protect::(run) {'status':
{'message': "Cannot find master domain: 'spUUID=af5bcc86-898a-11e1-96

and that's the reason your pool doesn't turn active.
in order to understand why, I would like to get a view of your domain
metadata:
what kind of storage are you using ? NFS or local-domain ?
- please access your NFS storage
- change dir to export directory - /vmstore/ovirt
- cat the following e12a0f53-ee72-44bc-ad26-93f9b4613c6c/dom_md/metadata

[Users] Adding users
by Dennis Jacobfeuerborn
Hi,
I just installed oVirt and so far things seem to be running smoothly for
the 1-node setup. I can't seem to add users though. When I go to Users->add
I only get a search dialog that lists the admin user no matter what I enter
as search string and there seems to be no obvious way to actually add a new
user. Clicking "ok" just dismisses the dialog.
Also after installing my first VM, stopping it and starting it up again the
console icon stayed greyed out. I actually had to restart my browser and
log back in in order to make the console icon clickable again.
Regards,
Dennis

[Users] Shut down a host node through web UI?
by Justin Clift
Hi all,
Successfully set up a basic initial oVirt installation (Engine + 1 x host node running 2.3.0-1.fc16 stable).
No storage nor VM's configured yet.
The host has been activated fine through the Engine web UI.
Now looking how gracefully shut down the node through the web UI.
There's nothing obvious for this (i.e. "shut down" option) showing up in the web UI for me. (admin user)
What should I be looking for in the UI, to shut down hosts gracefully?
Note - putting the host in maintenance mode and bringing it back out again goes fine, so I don't *think*
it's a config problem.
?
Regards and best wishes,
Justin Clift

[Users] VM ip not being shown up in the manager
by Rahul Upadhyaya
Hi,
In my ovirt setup. The vms are getting IPs properly (inside console
ifconfig shows ip) but the web-management console is not displaying it. The
IP adress field for the VM is empty. My guest OS is fedora. I have
installed ovirt-guest-agent also over my guest OS.
Is it a known bug or something that I could have missed that the IP address
is not being displayed?

Rahul

Re: [Users] Adding oVirt Node Fails
by Doron Fediuck
Nicholas,
The code I saw is testing for this file to verify it's a nods platform,
and if it's missing the behaviour changes. So the code will try to
unlink the file, which will give
you this result in a mounted file.

Ayal, did you see something in the code that made you want me to try the sym-link to /etc/rhev-hypervisor-release?Mike, is there any harm in linking it? - Nick
