Hi everybody,
After testing some features on 3.5, we are planning to finaly go to 3.6. So=
me problems still exist.
A major problem still remain on the < Highly Available > option on vm wich =
doesn't work. I had a cluster with 4 engines and a simple vm. When I start =
a poweroff from the node where this vm is living, the node is shutting down=
but my vm doesn't restart on another node of the cluster. The power managm=
ent of all the node are correctly configure. The HA feature of then hosted-=
engine is working well (except it is very long).
Another problem consist of passing usb host device to the virtual machine. =
We've got some specials usb keys for activating old application and we need=
to attach this key to vm. At first, I try with standard usb mass storage k=
ey to test this approach. I can't start virtual machine when I add usb devi=
ce, I always have the message < The host ... did not satisfy internal filte=
r HostDevice because it does not support host device passthrough >. Have an=
y idea where I can find an HowTo to help me ?
Tanks for your help,
SJ

HP ProLiant ML10 v2 or ML110 Gen9 with Windows Server Essentials 2012 R2 guest
by gregor
Hi,
I planned for a new customer to use oVirt instead of competitor
virtualization.
Here are the environment:
Server choices:
1. HP ProLiant ML10 v2: 1x Dual Core 3,1GHz with 12GB RAM
2. HP ProLiant ML110 Gen9: 1x Xeon 1,6GHz with 12GB RAM
Harddisk:
- Raid1 on two SATA 2TB drives
Guests:
- 1x Windows Server Essentials 2012 R2
- 2x CentOS 7
Clients:
- 6 Windows Clients
Will the ML10 v2 server serve the needed performance? Because its a way
cheaper than the ML110. And will Windows Server 2012 run in oVirt,
because on my test machine (HP ProLiant ML350 G5) it didn't (maybe the
CPU is to old).
regards
gregor

OVirt 3.6.2 -> NPE while clicking on "Setup Host Networks"
by ovirt@timmi.org
Hi List,
I update my OVirt 3.6.1 installation to 3.6.2 this morning.
After the reboot of the server the interface numbering wasn't the same
so I had to change some cable to have them connected to the right
configuration.
Everything looks OK but I receive a null pointer exception while
clicking on "Setup Host Networks" of my engine/host server.
Any help is more then welcome!!
Best regards
Christoph

Hi Stefano,
It's definitely not the switch, it seems to be the latest kernel package
(kernel-3.10.0-327.3.1.el7.x86_64) which stops bonding working
correctly, reverting back to the previous kernel brings the network up
in 802.3ad mode (4).
I know, from reading the release notes of 7.2, that there were some
changes to the bonding bits in the kernel so i'm guessing maybe some
defaults have changed.
I'll keep digging and post back as soon as i have something.

Storage network clarification
by Fil Di Noto
I'm having trouble setting up a dedicated storage network.
I have a separate VLAN designated for storage, and configured separate
IP addresses for each host that correspond to that subnet. I have
tested this subnet extensively and it is working as expected.
Prior to adding the hosts, I configured a storage network and
configured the cluster to use that network for storage and not the
ovirtmgmt network. I was hopping that this would be recognized when
the hosts were added but it was not. I had to actually reconfigure the
storage VLAN interface via oVirt "manage host networks" just to bring
the host networks into compliance. The IP is configured directly on
the bond0.<vlanid>, not on a bridge interface which I assume is
correct since it is not a "VM" network.
In this setup I was not able to activate any of the hosts due to VDSM
gluster errors, I think it was because VDSM was trying to use the
hostname/IP of the ovirtmgmt network. I manually set up the peers
using "gluster peer probe" and I was able to activate the hosts but
they were not using the storage network (tcpdump). I also tried adding
DNS records for the storage network interfaces using different
hostnames but gluster seemed to still consider the ovirtmgmt interface
as the primary.
With the hosts active, I couldn't create/activate any volumes until I
changed the cluster network settings to use the ovirtmgmt network for
storage. I ended up abandoning the dedicated storage subnet for the
time being and I'm starting to wonder if running virtualization and
gluster on the same hosts is intended to work this way.
Assuming that it should work, what is the correct way to configure it?
I can't find any docs that go in detail about storage networks. Is
reverse DNS a factor? If I had a better understanding of what oVirt is
expecting to see that would be helpful.

memory leak in 3.5.6 - not vdsm
by Charles Kozler
Here is a screenshot of my three nodes and their increased memory usage
over 30 days. Note that node #2 had 1 single VM that had 4GB of RAM
assigned to it. I had since shut it down and saw no memory reclamation
occur. Further, I flushed page caches and inodes and ran 'sync'. I tried
everything but nothing brought the memory usage down. vdsm was low too
(couple hundred MB) and there was no qemu-kvm process running so I'm at a
loss
http://imgur.com/a/aFPcK
Please advise on what I can do to debug this. Note I have restarted node 2
(which is why you see the drop) to see if it raises in memory use over tim
even with no VM's running

VDI non-persistant desktops
by Colin Coe
Hi all
We're using RHEV 3.5.7 and have about 40 desktop VMs that are all clones
from a single original.
In the very beginning we used desktop pools but this was torn down when we
started getting "The trust relationship between this workstation and the
primary domain failed" error messages.
We use DHCP for all desktops however every VM is defined on the DHCP server
and unknown MACs are rejected.
I'd like to revisit desktop pools but I'd like to know if other are using
this and what their experiences have been.
Kind of thing I'd like to know is
- how is patching done
- what is the performance like
- what tuning if any is done on the desktops
- GPO vs LPO
Any comments?
Thanks

No traffic on dummy interface
by Alan Murrell
Hello,
I am running Ovirt 3.6.1 on CentOS 7.1 in a single server, hosted
engine setup.
I have created 10 dummy dummy interfaces names 'dummy_[0-9]'. Ovirt
sees them, and in "Networks" for my cluster, I created 10 10
"internal" networks called 'Internal_[0-9]'.
In the "Hosts" tab, in the "Network Interfaces" tab for my host, I
assigned the 'dummy_*' interfaces tot he appropriate 'Internal_*'
network (i.e., dummy_0 -> Internal_0, dummy_1 -> Internal_1, etc.)
I have create two VMs and assigned a NIC interface on each attached to
the 'Internal_0' network. I gave the interfaces on the gusts an IP
int he same subnet, but they cannot talk to each other.
When I try to ping one from the other, here is the response I get
(public IPs redacted):
--- START ---
C:\Users\Administrator>ping 192.168.100.12
Pinging 192.168.100.12 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 192.168.100.20: Destination host unreachable.
Reply from XX.XXX.XX.XX: TTL expired in transit.
Request timed out.
Reply from XX.XXX.XX.XX: TTL expired in transit.
Ping statistics for 192.168.100.12:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 3, Lost = 1 (25% loss),
--- END ---
The IP of the PC I am pinging from is '192.168.100.20'
I have been able to setup internal networks like this before, but seem
to be missing something and I am not sure what?
Here is what the dummy_0 interface shows when I run 'ip addr show':
--- START ---
7: dummy_0: <BROADCAST,NOARP,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue
master Internal_0 state UNKNOWN
link/ether 0e:a2:6b:54:1a:91 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
--- END ---
and Internal_0 looks like this:
--- START ---
20: Internal_0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc
noqueue state UP
link/ether 0e:a2:6b:54:1a:91 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
inet6 fe80::dc07:84ff:fe1b:60cb/64 scope link
valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
--- END ---
I am not sure what other info you need, so please do let me know.
I did see this:
<http://blog.duderamos.com/internal-isolated-networks-on-ovirt/> and
except that I use 'dummy_*' instead of 'dummy*', my setup is the same.
Thanks, in advance, for your help on this.
Regards,
Alan
