oVirt reports using Grafana

Heya! I've been whishing for reports in oVirt ever since the old 'Jasper Reports' was removed. For an Enterprise, having pretty graphs to look at is a must. Searching the subject, I've found this[*] and have managed to get it installed OK but having issues trying to follow the guide setting it up. First of all, I think the guide should have at least mentioned that 'pg_hba.conf' needs to be edited for the read only user to be able to connect to the database, I scratched my head around that for a while before I got it. When I first type in the query example, I got syntax errors: 'pq: syntax error at or near "$"'. I continued anyways since I figured it would be solved at a later point, which turned out to be true, since the next step is to use the "Templating feature" to add variables. Unfortunately this doesn't go so well, even though I followed the instructions very carefully. After hitting save on the first variable I am rewarded with the error message: 'Template variables could not be initialized: pq: column "en_us" does not exist.' Are the queries stated in the guide still correct? hyperconverged cluster - how to change the mount path?

Hi list, I'm looking for an advice how to change the mount point of the hosted_storage due to a hostname change. When I set up our hyperconverged lab cluster (host1, host2, host3) I populated the mount path with host3:/hosted_storage which wasn't very clever as it brings in a single point of failure (i.e. when host3 is down). So I thought adding a round robin dns/hosts entry (i.e. gluster1) for host 1 to 3 and changing the mount path would be a better idea. But the mount path entry is locked in web gui and I couldn't find any hint how to change it manually (in database, shared and local configuration) in a consistent way without risking the cluster. So, is there a step by step guide how to achieve this without reinstalling (from backup)? Changing resolution of console on Mint guest running on Ovirt 4.2

I keep getting an error: Could not set configuration for CRTC 63. I checked that I have spice-agent and spice-agentd running. Also qemu-guest-agent. lspci shows that I have a QXL adapter. xrandr -q shows that I have many different config available. but none work. What am I missing? Is your engine functioning at all? I'm not sure if you're saying your entire engine doesn't work, or just host deploy doesn't work. What version of ovirt engine is this? How did you install -- fresh installation, upgrade? From source or rpm? Snapshots don't seem to work with Windows VMs

I've been testing with Windows 10 1607 LTSB and created several snapshots. I can preview each one, but they all boot with the same configuration and software installed and files as the "active VM" - so I cannot see at all how to roll back changes. Is this a known issue? I believe I'm following the documentation properly, but I can't see that the snapshots are doing anything. I'm testing on Scientific Linux 7.4 using oVirt 4.2.2.6-1.el7.centos.

ovirt-node: freshly installed node: network interfaces not visible

Hello, I'm deploying a test cluster to get used to the ovirt product. My ovirt ( 4.2.2) engine is deployed in a vmware virtual machine. I'm busy deploying 5 hosts using the ovirt-node iso. I have issue with the additional physical network interface ( used for vm trafic and iSCSI) In ovirt manager I can't see the physical network interfaces. It's thus not possible to assign logical network to physical interfaces and my hosts stays in "non operational" status. How should I configure the additional interfaces in the ovirt-node installer to have them recognized ? I somehow managed to configure one host and I can see a comment line in /etc/sysconfig/network-script/ifcfg-... saying vdsm has acquired the interface.... No Such line in the ifcfg-* file in non operational hosts.... Any idea ? Etienne

When creating a virtual machine with a template, there are times when disk cannot be recognized

Hi: I use environment is ovirt4.2.0, first, I created a template, the template has already installed in the operating system, and then I use this template to create a virtual machine, sometimes can't find the disk happens, particular case is shown in figure: At this point, the virtual machine attaches disk again and cannot be recognized. However, the disk above is identifiable to other virtual machines, and the contents of disk still exist I would like to ask what causes this problem.

oVirt 4.2 Self-hosted engine deployment fails at the end - "failed liveliness check"

I successfully deployed an oVirt 4.2 self-hosted engine setup just over 6 months ago, and recently tried to re-install to modify hostnames on the engine and hypervisor. After I cleaned up and re-ran hosted-engine --deploy my install failed right at the end (TASK [Wait for the engine to come up on the target VM]) with the following error: ERROR otopi.ovirt_hosted_engine_setup.ansible_utils ansible_utils._process_output:98 fatal and the following engine vm status: Engine status: {"reason": "failed liveliness check", "health": "bad", "vm": "up", "detail": "Up"} I opted to do a clean re-install of CentOS 7.5 and try again, but I keep running into the same error (see the attached logs). Some details that may or may not be helpful: - I'm reusing old mount points without formatting such as /home and my previous NFS-exported storage domain LVMs. The root partition, swap, /boot, and the engine destination LVMs were all re-formatted during the CentOS 7.5 install or prior to attempted oVirt install. - I'm reusing the MAC address from the previous attempt (so that it picks up the static entry I put on my router). - I currently only have entries in /etc/hosts to map FQDNs to IPs, but the install fails the same way whether or not I tell the process to populate the engine VM's hosts file. - Prior to my re-install of CentOS 7.5 I tried, and was able, to log into the engine appliance. I saw the hosted engine VM was listed as "down", and there was some temporary VM (leftover from the install process?) that I couldn't do anything to. Thanks in advance for your help!

remote-viewer Spice Problem on MacOS

Hi all, we are currently experiencing a weird problem with oVirt and the spice console on MacOS: Occasionally when our Mac Users are connecting to a Spice Console of any oVirt VM it opens the usual window but just displays the message: "Connected to graphic server". When a Linux user now connects to it and closes the connection the Mac user can also connect again normally. I have tried https://www.spice-space.org/osx-client.html and https://rizvir.com/articles/ovirt-mac-console/ with exactly the same behaviour. The Issue appears on several different MacOS Versions and we believe it started after our upgrade to oVirt 4.2. MacOS Version: 10.13.5 oVirt Version: 4.2.3.8-1.el7 Any help or suggestion is greatly appreciated. Best regards, Hendrik

oVirt Authentication and Authorization

Hi Team, We have three components in our setup 1) Our Script (application using python) 2) Ovirt 3) LDAP (Also integrated to oVirt) 1) Our Python application is authenticating to LDAP and it creates a token for our application 2) For accessing the API's in oVIrt, I need to contact to the oVirt API which authenticates and creates a token for it 3) then I need to maintain the token of my application with its mapping to the ovirt tokenId in my application. Fresh 4.2 install: engine-setup skipping NFS share step

Any idea why the install script is not asking me if I want to set up the local ISO nfs share? I thought it might be because I am using the entire disk, but I tried creating a separate partition/mount for ti and it still didn't work. Ovirt and L2 Gateway

I have install ovirt 4.2.3 and everything seems to be working fine: I can create virtual (Geneve overlay) networks for communication between virtual machines via the external provider ovirt-provider-ovn by using the OWS switch on the cluster. Live migrations and everything else within the virtual environment works perfectly :-) For connections from virtual machines to physical VLAN's in a switch, I can also create a logical network which is created using the external provider ovirt-provider-ovn by specifying a connection to a physical VLAN network created as a separate data center network. This method requires that all ovirt-nodes (hosts) in the cluster have access to the physical network though. What I am looking for is a way to implement a L2 Gateway such that (not all) ovirt nodes (hosts) need to have direct access to the physical network. What I am looking for is a way where virtual machines can communicate with the L2 Gateway via virtual (Geneve overlay) networks. On the L2 Gateway the virtual network shall then be bridged to the physical VLAN on a dedicated network interface. My goal is that the virtual network and the physical network becomes one big broadcast domain. oVirt HCI point-to-point interconnection

Good morning, I would like to kindly ask you a question about the feasibility of defining a point-to-point interconnection between three ovirt nodes. Initially with the idea of optimizing the direct communications between the nodes and especially the gluster communications, and so it would seem quite easy, then evaluating a more complex configuration, assuming to create an overlay L2 network on the three L3 point-to-point, using techniques like geneve, of which at the moment I have no mastery. If the direct routing of three nodes to interconnect the public network with the private overlay network was not easily doable, we could leave the private overlay network isolated from the outside world and connect the VM hosted engine directly to the two networks with two adapters. Snapshot error with Cinder/Ceph disk

Hi, i'm having problems with snapshotting Cinder/Ceph disks since upgrading to 4.2. Observed behavior has changed between 4.2.2 and 4.2.4. With oVirt 4.2.2 and Cinder 11.1.0 - oVirt snapshot fails (according to oVirt), but is listed in GUI - disk snapshot are visible in oVirt storage domain tab and Cinder CLI - first try to remove the oVirt snapshot fails (according to oVirt), but disk snapshots are removed from oVirt storage domain tab and Cinder CLI - second try to remove oVirt snapshot succeeds With oVirt 4.2.4 and Cinder 11.1.1 - oVirt snapshot fails "completely" - in Cinder logs i can see that disk snapshots are created and immediately deleted oVirt error log message is the same in both cases: "Failed in 'SnapshotVDS' method" I'm attaching logs from oVirt engine from the latter case. thx for any advice matthias

Hi, I’m looking for documentation reference on oVirt max-limits, like max number of guest on single compute-node, max number of LUNs into a storage domain or others. Is there a reference on oVirt documentation ? Actually the only thing I found is related to RHEV and memory (https://access.redhat.com/articles/906543 <https://access.redhat.com/articles/906543>) Thanks for the help. Simon

Hi, i decided to update my test environment (4.2.2) today and noticed oVirt 4.2.4 is out ;-) i have some dumb questions concerning - BZ 1582527 Enable only strong ciphers from engine to VDSM communication for hosts in cluster level >= 4.2 - BZ 1577593 Disable TLS versions < 1.2 for hosts with cluster level >= 4.1 Is simply updating a host from 4.2.2 to 4.2.4 enough to apply the changes mentioned above? Or do i have to reinstall hosts in addition to upgrading? Before or after the upgrade? My cluster was on cluster level 4.2 when i started. My hosts are type: Enterprise Linux (CentOS) thx matthias

Hypervisor issue after upgrade

Hi I'm looking for some help with an issue with one of our hypervisors We recently upgraded one of our hypervisors from ovirt 4.0 to 4.1 and Centos 7.3.1611 to 7.4.1708 using the following procedure: 1. Migrated all VMs off hypervisor 2. Put hypervisor into maintenance mode and deleted it from the cluster 3. Re-subscribed the hypervisor in katello to the new OS channels 4. Upgraded the OS to 7.4.1708 5. After reboot subscribed the hypervisor to the new ovirt 4.1 channels 6. Added the hypervisor back into the cluster (this installed the new ovirt packages) 7. Returned hypervisor to maintenance mode 8. Applied any remaining updates and rebooted 9. Checked all required networks were assigned to the hypervisor 10. Took the hypervisor out of maintenance mode After 5 mins of the hypervisor sitting in 'Activating' it finally got into an up state, however we get an error in the event log: Failed to activate Host Import/export VMs from/to Vbox, Vmware

Hi All, I'm trying to import/export ova files between oVirt and other platforms (Virtualbox / Vmware workstation), however, this is not working for some reason. it's important to have oVirt compliant with these platforms, to easily migrate Vms between them. Can anyone comment on this, is there a way to convert the vms ? Thank you in advance.

Hi, I'm trying to set up NAT+IP masquerading with oVirt 4.2. I have enabled the libvirt default network on virbr0 and added a network with the same name in oVirt. I have also installed vdsm-hook-extnet and set extnet to 'default' for this network to default. When I try to start my VM with this network assigned to it, I get this error: The host ovirthost did not satisfy internal filter Network because network(s) virbr0 are missing. RHEL5 guests frequently hang when migrating host.

Hi, I am experiencing that my RHEL5 guests frequently "hang" when migrating host. Console is blank, CPU after migration is 100% and as far as oVirt is concerned, the VM is OK. oVirt is 4.2.3.8-1.el7, on CentOS 7. Hosts are CentOS 7 as well. Cluster is in "Intel Westmere family" CPU type. Guest is RHEL5, fully patched, kernel 4.2.3.8-1.el7 with ovirt-guest-agent installed from EPEL. I do not see anything out of place in the ovirt-engine and vdsm logs, and the guest logs are simply not there, the stop right before the migration,as if the machine had "frozen". Powering the VM off and starting it starts the VM correctly. This does not happen 100% of the time. If I try to migrate the VM when it is freshly started the migration is faster (maybe 5 seconds), and the guest OS does not hang. Anybody else experiencing something similar? Maybe something (timeouts?) that I should tune on the guest OS for RHEL5? Thanks! -- Eduardo Mayoral.

Hi, We're running oVirt 4.1.9, recently we had an issue with snapshots so we had to fix them manually. I cannot get the screen on HE to change short of ctl-alt-del which will reboot the HE. I do have backups for the HE that are/were run on a nightly basis. If the cluster was left alone, the HE vm would bounce from machine to machine trying to boot. This is why the cluster is in maintenance mode. One of the nodes was down for a period of time and brought back, sometime through the night, which is when the automated backup kicks, the HE started bouncing around. Got nearly 1000 emails. unable to create iSCSI storage domain

Hi, I've a problem creating an iSCSI storage domain. My hosts are running the current ovirt 4.2 engine-ng version. I can detect and login to the iSCSI targets, but I cannot see any LUNs (on the LUNs > Targets page). That happens with our storage and with a linux based iSCSI target which I created for testing purposes. When I logon to the ovirt hosts I see that they are connected with the target LUNs (dmesg is telling that there are iscsi devices being found and they are getting assigned to devices in /dev/sdX ). Writing and reading from the devices (also accros hosts) works. Do you have some advice how to troubleshoot this? Regards Bernhard

Hello, Seeing some odd behavior deploying a host to a gluster cluster on rhev 4.2 running rhgs 3.3.1. The host failed to be added to the cluster and there are no real errors in the host deploy logs. Upon further investigation it looks like its failing network host checks. The interfaces gets added to the host when trying to configure host networks, but fails even though everything seems routable. Hi, I'm currently running oVirt with a self hosted engine configuration on an Intel NUC. All of my VMs are on my home 192.168.1.0/24 network, but I want to set up a completely isolated network like VirtualBox has (https://blogs.oracle.com/scoter/virtualbox-host-only) The NUC that I have only has one NIC so I think I'll have to set up a dummy interface of some kind. I tried that with the below example. I couldn't find a good guide or doc on this. Can someone please assist? vGPU setup guide

Dear All, IS this the most current and useful example of implenting vGPUs in oVirt? I had understood that 4.2 had NVIDIA GRID support as a flagship feature, but this appears to be 4.1.4?
