[Users] Debian VM.
by victor nunes
Hello everyone.
After installing debian as virtual machine during the boot I got the
following error:
Loadin Linux 2.6.32-5-686 ....
unaligned pointer 0x8ef20002
Aborted. Press and key to exit.
In research, I found that this error is a problem of KVM.
In such cases, there is something that can be done?

[Users] Recovering VMs when the engine is lost

Hello everybody,
I managed to re-install the server the oVirt engine was running on in my te=
stlab. All the cpu and storages are still there and the VMs are still runni=
ng without problems. Is there a way, I can attach the still existing nodes =
to the new oVirt engine and recover/import the VMs?
Alternatively, is there a way, I can import the VMs disks? I still know how=
the data center and clusters were set up and the specs for the VMs are als=
o documented, so I'd like to re-attach the disks, which would save me some =
time compared to the re-installs.
Kind regards

[Users] can't start latest beta ovirt
by Cristian Falcas
Hi all,
i can't start the ovirt engine anymore.
The error is:
Error: Could not create the Java Virtual Machine.
Error: A fatal exception has occurred. Program will exit.
It seems that the error appears when the parameter -XX:+UseCompressedOops
is set. If I run the java command wothour it, the program starts.
java -version
java version "1.7.0_09-icedtea"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (fedora-2.3.3.fc17.1-i386)
OpenJDK Client VM (build 23.2-b09, mixed mode)
The machine is:
uname -a
Linux wikitiki.mindsoft.com 3.6.7-4.fc17.i686 #1 SMP Tue Nov 20 20:13:04
UTC 2012 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
Is this some missconfiguration on my part?

[Users] How to attach virtualized Gluster cluster?
by Peter Styk
Any chance there is a way to get this to work?
2 x F16 nodes bare metal
engine and gluster 4 node virtualized in vmware esxi
engine ok
2x node ok
gluster stand alone setup ok
problem:
Can't attach my stand-alone gluster cluster. Since I'm not using
virtualized gluster bricks to run virtual machines why can't I use it as
storage only?
intuition takes me here:
Cluster #1 [Bare_Metal] Enable Ovirt Service [yes] & Enable Gluster Service
[no]
[shows Hosts and VMs]
Cluster #2 [Virtualized] Enable Ovirt Service [no] & Enable Gluster Service
[yes]
[shows Hosts and Volumes]
Have tried this several Times as full gluster working setup, empty nodes
and oVirt agent nodes. No luck.
Any pointers would be appreciated.
Best,
Peter
Any indication or pointer on how to mount gluster cluster as the only
storage for ovirt would be of great help.

Re: [Users] XP Guest Sound issue - FIXED
by Baldwin, John
I re-created the Centos 6.3 64-bit oVirt engine using the following repo URL locations which points to the latest versions
In the dreyou.org repo
baseurl=http://www.dreyou.org/ovirt/vdsm/
baseurl=http://www.dreyou.org/ovirt/ovirt-engine/
Using those repo file locations the oVirt Engine / backend 3.1.0-3.26.el6 was installed
That had a build date of Fri 26 Oct 2012 06:54:09 AM EDT. That was current enough to contain the bug fix.
The sound is working fine now. The Guest XP sound device is listed as Intel(r) 82801 AC'97 Audio Controller.
Thanks again for pointing out the bug!

Subject: Re: [Users] XP Guest Sound issue
I looked into the bug at http://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/7451/
That is exactly the problem I am having. The rpm I am using is:
ovirt-engine-backend-3.1.0-3.19.el6.noarch
Version : 3.1.0
Release : 3.19.el6
Build Date: Wed 15 Aug 2012 11:11:42 AM EDT Build Host: centos64-ov Source RPM: ovirt-engine-3.1.0-3.19.el6.src.rpm
The fix for the bug which was simply a typo in the soundcard device name use in the ovirt backend engine (name corrected from act97 to ac97).
The fix was submitted Aug 23 and approved Aug 26 after the build date of the file I am using.
I will simply wait for the next update to be present in the Centos6 oVirt repo at http://www1.dreyou.org/ovirt/ovirt-engine31/
Thanks for the response Andrew and Itamar

that's right - you should see ac97.
Looks like the issue was fixed here http://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/7451/

[Users] Panic on FreeBSD guest with >1 CPU
by Karli Sjöberg
Hey all!
Since recently patching our hosts, I´ve been having trouble running FreeBSD guests with more than one virtual core or socket. I have managed take a screenshot of how it looks like when it panics when booting kernel, right after ACPI:
http://i47.tinypic.com/2u90qrr.png
I´ve tried this with similar results using 8.2-RELEASE, 8.3-RELEASE, 9.0-RELEASE and 9-STABLE.
If I edit the guest to have only one virtual core or socket, it boots up without issue.
Since noticing this, I´ve tried updating the packages one more time, thinking maybe it had already been fixed but no, it remains. These are the package versions I´m using:
# rpm -qa | egrep '(kernel|libvirt|qemu|vdsm|seabios)' | sort -d

[Users] ovirt-engine-dbscripts broken dependencies on F17
by Adrian Gibanel
First of all I don't have too much experience in Fedora to say that this is actually a bug so it might be a problem on my part not being able to use repos or whatever.
My initial setup is explained in this other mailing list thread:
http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2012-November/005125.html
Basically it's a Fedora 17 minimal installation with a /home mounted on a lvm partition and I just want to reinstall the whole oVirt again as an all-in-one setup without having to reinstall the whole Fedora 17.
So if I'm not mistaken (I repeat that I don't have too much experience in Fedora) the error is:
ovirt-engine-3.1.0-2.fc17.noarch needs:
ovirt-engine-dbscripts = 3.1.0-2.fc17
but it's not going to be installed because the only version of:
ovirt-engine-dbscripts available in the repo is:
3.0.0.0001-13.fc17 .
More than this I have: ovirt-engine-sdk 3.2 installed (instead of 3.1)... taking a look at the logs it would seem that:
yum upgrade --skip-broken
is the one that has updated ovirt-engine-sdk to 3.2 version.
So... if no update of the repository was needed (as per apt-get update is usually needed in Debian.) and I just had to run yum upgrade I can confirm that bug: 869457 ( https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=869457 ) is not fixed at all.
I'm temted to reinstall all the Fedora 17 again but it would be nice if you provided some yum commands to debug if the problem is for everyone or if it's specific of my setup so that we can confirm whether bug 869457 is fixed or not.
Now I'm checking http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2012-November/005116.html more carefully and they say to run:
engine-upgrade command which I haven't run. Anyways I think that running engine-cleanup and doing a yum upgrade should work (selecting the right ovirt-engine-sdk 3.1 version and not the 3.2 one) and it's not working at all.
Thank you!
(Here goes more or less the log):
-----------------------------------------
This is how I have proceeded:
(Don't proceed like this if you want to keep all your VMs... this is only a test machine)
engine-cleanup
rm -rf /home/iso
rm -rf /home/storage
rm -rf /etc/exports # I don't have any other exports there
yum upgrade # I run yum upgrade because it would seem that ovirt-engine-sdk is no longer upgraded to 3.2 as per bug 869457 and http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2012-November/005116.html .

so... ovirt-engine-sdk 3.2 version is still there!
The bug is not fixed at all?
Let's downgrade it then:
yum downgrade ovirt-engine-sdk
It doesn't seem to work.
So I have tried:
yum remove kernel-headers-3.6.7-4.fc17.x86_64
And then: yum upgrade
[root@ns231094 ~]# yum upgrade

ovirt-engine-3.1.0-2.fc17.noarch needs:
ovirt-engine-dbscripts = 3.1.0-2.fc17
but it's not going to be installed the only version of:
ovirt-engine-dbscripts available in the repo is:
3.0.0.0001-13.fc17
.
So... not sure if I have hit a bug or if I need to force the ovirt repo manually when upgrading.
I'm going to run:
yum install -y http://www.ovirt.org\
/releases/ovirt-release-fedora.noarch.rpm
just in case. Nothing to be updated.
My final test was:
[root@ns231094 ~]# yum --enablerepo=ovirt upgrade

[root@ns231094 ~]# yum --enablerepo=ovirt-stable upgrade

[Users] the jboss server in use with ovirt manager

This is my first exposure to using jboss server, so I have a dumb question.=
I know this would probably be more appropriate for a jboss list=85but thi=
s ovirt list is currently the only mailing list I am a member of.
Id really like to use my management server as the place where I store my an=
aconda scripts for unattended install. They are commonly grabbed via httpd=
. Id be happy with just a directory I can access from the httpd that=92s r=
unning. All I see httpd config file wise is the ovirt-engine.conf file wit=
h the single line proxy setting. I can't tell where a reasonable place to =
stick a web directory could be.
Can someone help me out where I could place this webdir so its accessible t=
o the virtual machines?
Thanks,
jonathan

[Users] engine backup and recovery

Is there an accepted method to keep the engine backed up for use in disaste=
r recovery scenario? I'm new to postgres, so I'm not sure how to keep it h=
appy with dumps and restores. I've not yet seen a disaster check sheet for=
recovery, but that doesn't mean I didn't google good enough.
Is there a workable process for how this would be recovered after total (en=
gine) system failure?
Thanks,
jonathan
