Vlans and subnets

I think it was because I have different services on different vlans. I have vlan100 for glusterfs and vlan101 for vdsm hosts with different subnets. Also, I have an another connection (eth1) with different subnet for internet acces and this is the default route. I would like to separate ovirt services, networks and glusterfs to different vlans/subnets by security reasons. But I don't know what services need to be on same vlan/subnets. My questions/goals - which services need to connect to another ? - Is hosted engine's vm need to be on same network with gluster ? - Is hosted engine's vm need to be on same network with vdsm hosts? - I want to separate ovirt/gluster networks from ovirt VM-s/public internet access - I don't want to extra traffic on router Does anyone experience with this way? Packet loss

Evening all, I'm having major issues with a self hosted setup (oVirt 3.4.4 & CentOS 6.5) on Hetzner, with 2 subnets allocated to the server. Routing to and from the additional IP ranges is working as expected, and I can allocate any of the IPs to a virtual interface on the host and get connectivity, so from what I can tell the network routing side of things is correct. However, when I move any of the allocated IPs to any of the guests, I get 1 ICMP response before complete packet loss. This happens at all times, even with iptables completely unloaded and an Accept policy thoughout. The structure is just a basic bridge called ovirtmgmt that all interfaces are bound to. Guests that are affected can communicate with other guests on either of the two subnets, and also with the host, so the bridge is up and running, but when it comes to any traffic trying to egress by the default route, it comes to a halt. In addition, all the hosts have unique MACs, dmesg shows that the appropriate vnets are entering forwarding states and STP is disabled on the bridge. And just to confuse matters, one guest is working just fine - yet when the settings are replicated to any other host the new host still fails to work. Even if I put the working IP onto another guest, it fails to transfer any data. All I get is constant who-has requests on the host bridge whilst the guest looks for the next-hop. ISO_DOMAIN as iscsi storage type

Hello List, i am very unhappy with NFS for my ISO_DOMAIN domain. Can i simply remove my ISO_DOMAIN via NFS and add a ISO_DOMAIN via isci? My Setup: http://oi60.tinypic.com/2cmu7nm.jpg I once ran into a pitfall where i was not able to add a ISO DOMAIN anymore, so i would rather ask in advance if i can remove the ISO_DOMAIN and simply add it again via iscsi. Do i need to take care of anything here? Thanks, Mario

All: Since my Sept. 19 request for mentors for the GNOME OPW project[1], I have had no responses from anyone to lend an effort on mentoring potential applicants. The application process has been opened and I know we have had at least one potential candidate[2] interested, and I would hate to turn people away because we did not have mentor(s) to assist them. The application deadline for OPW is Oct. 22, but because potential applicants are required to get involved with the community before they formally apply, it is very important we have some mentors in place as soon as possible. oVirt has an excellent community in place, and here's another chance to show that off! How to mapping LDAP users in AAA

I find that I could map DN, ID NAME, DISPLAY in the config file. What should I add in the config file then?

I swear that is what I'm clicking on. One of the messages: ovirt Failed to execute stage 'Setup validation': Cannot locate gluster packages, possible cause is incorrect channels. Does that mean I need to install the oVirt yum repositories on the Gluster bricks themselves? [Users] How to See Ovirt Console From a Remote Windows Host

I know that this is simple for some of you, but I also know from Googling around that lots of people have had trouble seeing their ovirt console from a remote Windows host. Below I describe what finally worked for me. I hope this helps somebody avoid wasting as much time as I did today. I'm a fairly experienced VMWare user who's learning ovirt. I just installed an all-in-one ovirt server and copied a CentOS 6.5 iso into it. I then tried to boot a new VM but soon learned that console access is different in ovirt than on VMWare. I then spent over an hour trying the various documented ways to view a remote console using Spice on my Windows 7 desktop. I even tried using a Linux VM to see if the Firefox plugin for Spice would work. Nothing. What finally worked was installing the virt-viewer Windows client (http://virt-manager.org/download/) Then, I opened the ovirt Administration Portal in Firefox running on my Windows 7 desktop. I created a new VM and configured it the way I wanted. Then, from the "Virtual Machines" tab, I started the new VM. Pretty soon the little console icon turned green so I clicked on it. I got the prompt from Firefox asking me what app I wanted to associate with the ".vv" URL that opened when I clicked on the console icon. I browsed around and selected \Program Files\VirtViewer\bin\remote-viewer.exe which is from the virt-viewer client package I installed above. I told Firefox to always use this app for this kind of file. This works great! I was able to boot the CentOS system and install it with no problems. Good luck! Jon Forrest

Hi, I'm trying to use oVirt 3.4 to manage a simple Gluster 3.5.2 node setup. However, I can't seem to add either node (there are only two). I keep getting the following in the log: Host installation failed. Command returned failure code 1 during ssh session Redhat lists the answer on their customer portal page, however, I can't see the answer unless I purchase RHEL. disk moving issue

Team, I am having issues moving a disk from one storage domain to another. This use to work fine and now it does not... shortcut keys

Team, New here to the list... Been using ovirt for some time now.... I just updated from 3.3.5 to 3.4.1. We have Windows 7 Guest and use putty to connect to our DB System. We use specific hot keys set in our termcap, etc... To be straight to the point... on oVirt branch 3.3.XX the hotkeys "Shift + F8" & "Shift + F9" where capture by our terminals and where been read correctly... I just updated oVirt to 3.4.1 and all went fine EXCEPT =] That now those hotkeys are no longer working... Running putty to our DB server via ssh and than running the command "read" does nothing... It reads all hotkeys and key combinations from F1 to F12 and Shift F1 to F7 and skips F8 and F9... What changed on oVirt 3.4.1 that I can no longer use this hotkeys? I also try to use them on windows and they are just not coming though at all... It seems to me that spice is catching the key sequence and capturing it before delivering it to the guest.... My data center/cluster runs on Centos 6.5 x86_64 All have 96GB of RAM and all have the same CPU Family... My ovirt manager runs as well on Centos 6.5 x86_64 on a different hosts that runs luci/kvm for HA clustering. Custom Cloud-Init script only partially executing

I'm trying to get the custom cloud-init script section in my site to run. My goal is to have the VM run 'yum update', add the PuppetLabs repository, and then install the latest puppet agent, and join it to Puppet. Can someone please explain? Also, I have combed the script and ensured that the indentation was 4 spaces, and not tabs. I noted that previous users in this mailing list have had that issue before.

Failed to change disk (CD) in VM

Hello All, I am testing out oVirt 3.5 rc5 and their appears to be a problem when I try to change CDs on a live VM. I get the error message "Error while executing action Change CD: Internal Engine Error.". This is a very basic setup. I pushed through the engine install on a fully patched CentOS 6.5 machine; The hypervisor is CentOS 7. I have a remote ISO / NFS share. Everything else appears to be right; so I hope it is not something that I am doing... A little about the hypervisor: OS: RHEL - 7 - 0.1406.el7.centos.2.5 Kernel : 3.10.0 - 123.8.1.el7.x86_64 KVM: 1.5.3 - 60.el7_0.2 Libvirt: libvirt-1.1.1-29.el7_0.3 VDSM: vdsm-4.16.7-4.git34f961b.el7 Thanks for everything. The release candidate is available now for Fedora 19, Fedora 20 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.5 (or similar) and allow you to use Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 as node and run Hosted Engine. Ubuntu and Debian Guest Agent Not Working Properly

Hi All, I have installed new guest agent in the Ubuntu 14.04 and Debian 7.6....it's working fine except shutdown and reboot....even i click on the reboot button but it doesn't affect any thing on the VM (i.e the logs on the dashboard says VM rebooted successfully but actually it's rebooted...remain in the same stage...) Messed up UI and missing CSS

Hello, I am using rpms from the ovirt-3.5 repositories on ovirt.org, to install and deploy ovirt-engine, and the UI I get in Firefox (f19) looks like the attached screenshot. I'm installing engine rpms on CentOS 6.5, and have patternfly1 rpm installed there as well. When using web inspector, the browser tries to retrieve style.min.css but gets a 404. Hi, We are going to start composing oVirt 3.5.0 RC5 today 2014-10-09 as soon as the ovirt-engine package finish to build. The bug tracker [1] shows no blockers: The bugs keyworded as Regression have been reviewed by maintainers and not marked as blockers[4] Features completed are marked in green on Features Status Table [2] There are still 34 bugs [3] targeted to 3.5.0 which will be moved automatically to 3.5.1 once the build will be released. To oVirt or not to oVirt

Good day all! have been a KVM user/admin for the last few years and have configured all aspects using either VirtManager or CLI where required. am about to reinstall my development system and started to look at using CentOS7 as the host, and to get a more recent version of KVM. After a little search around I came across oVirt and am considering whether to install this now and use it as the main configuration tool. do have a couple of questions which hopefully somebody will be able to help with? at present I am using OpenVSwitch with KVM so that I could use the vlan capabilities and wish to ask whether will need to move away from that to a different solution ? On my host I already have about 10 VMs that I wish to keep and whether I could migrate them into oVirt ? I have been using LVM volumes as raw storage for the VM images so presume would need to convert them to a different format for use ? one of my VMs actually acts as a storage provider, using Quantastor, which then presents storage to other VMs using iSCSI which hope I can still use in oVirt ? Apologies if these questions are a little vague but am trying to get my head around how it would all work. Thank you, Phil

Hi, I've put my host on maintenance, then i configured iscsi offload for my broadcom cards changing target's file's (192.168.12.2,3260 and 192.168.12.4,3260) in my node iqn.1986-03.com.hp:storage.msa2324i.1226151a6 to use interface bnx2i.d8:d3:85:67:e3:bb, but after activating the host, configurations are back to default. Nesting Hyper-V

Hello All, I work for a educational institution, and we currently use oVirt in our datacenter. We are on the latest stable build of oVirt 3.4.4. Most of our hypervisors run CentOS 6.5; however, we have recently been asked if we could assign virtual hypervisors (Server 2012 R2) to some of our classes for learning purposes. I have been doing some research and found that I needed atleast kernel 3.10; therefore, I took one hypervisors and converted it to CentOS 7 fully patched. I also installed the nestedvt hook as described here <http://community.redhat.com/blog/2013/08/testing-ovirt-3-3-with-nested-kvm/>. I am all researched/googled out, and I am having no luck. After I do a typical install of Server 2012 R2 it will not let me install the Hyper-V role. I quote "Hyper-V cannot be installed: A hypervisor is already running". When I run the command cat /sys/module/kvm_intel/parameters/nested it comes back with a "Y". If I look in the host hooks it shows the nestedvt and macspoof. The VM has a custom property of macspoof = true. Did I miss something? Is this possible? Has anyone done this before? Thank you in advance for all you do. Your work on this project has helped our community college greatly and our student even more. Because of this project we have be able to give students virtual resources to complete their labs from anywhere at anytime.

Harmful to rename a cluster?

Hi, For reasons beyond sanity, I will have to rename a cluster to something, then rename it back to its previous name. - Is it only a label with no impact on a production datacenter? - Will it be possible to rename it back? Proper way to change and persist vdsm configuration options

I'm running ovirt nodes that are stock CentOS 6.5 systems with VDSM installed. I am using iSER to do iSCSI over RDMA and to make that work I have to modify /etc/vdsm/vdsm.conf to include the following: [irs] iscsi_default_ifaces = iser,default I've noticed that any time I upgrade a node from the engine web interface that changes to vdsm.conf are wiped out. I don't know if this is being done by the configuration code or by the vdsm package. Is there a more reliable way to ensure changes to vdsm.conf are NOT removed automatically? Thanks, - Trey

While we would have liked to be able to release it, bugzilla shows 2 new fresh blockers, so it's another No Go. The bug tracker [1] shows 2 blockers: Bug ID Whiteboard Status Summary 1149637 virt ASSIGNED Cannot start VM with attached ISO 1149705 storage NEW VM abnormal stop after LV refreshing when using thin provisioning on block storage This means a RC5 build will be issued once the above 2 bugs will be fixed and GA will follow after testing. Add additional iSCSI path in ovirt 3.3.4

I am trying to add a second path to my iSCSI LUNs but I can’t get the changes to persist. I can get the SPM to login to the second path, and from the server side the multipath –ll output looks good. I can then move the SPM around to force all the other systems to login to the iSCSI LUNs. But when I reboot a node I lose the second path. I have also been searching through the database to see what might be missing on the backend and I noticed that the second path is not listed in the storage_server_connections table. I tried adding an entry for the second path, but that did not resolve the problem. What is the proper way to add an additional path?

Hi, Alon, Without waiting until the weekend, I have finished the flesh install of the oVirt 3.5 RC3 today. As a result, with same AAA settings, My OpenLDAP's users became possible to login to the Web User Portal now. Yes, RC3 is good for integrating with newest OpenLDAP 2.4.23, RC2 is not. Hello, Anybody knows, how can install Power Options with IDrac7 ent lic? I рфму tried different parameters|: for example: Type IDRAC7 login password options none or Type ipmilan login password options none Doesnt work Any ideas? thanks for help Ilya
