Hi all, When adding networks to my el7 hosts (accurately vlans), ifcfg files are generated with the ONBOOT FLAG to no... Seems that my vlans will not start on the next boot. I already set the flag to yes, but it seems no to be the right way.

VM Pools and time of creating VMs

Hi everyone, What's the difference in mechanisms of creating virtual machines between normal create VM from template and create it via VM Pool? I see that if I create VM in normal way, it takes much much more time then create via VM Pool. It's a little bit strange for me.

self hosted setup with answer file

So i've been playing with standing up a self hosted instance of oVirt. I'm using an answer file that i generated first time I tried running it (so that I can provision w/ ansible) I've run into 2 problems. 1: i have to specify the jboss home manually from the cli (didn't see an answer equivalent), even though the ovirt jboss package is installed. 2: Generally speaking it seems to be ignoring several of the answer file config entries. My answers tell it to 'confirm settings' and it runs non-interactively. Plus all the local storage configs seem to be ignored. I'm running ovirt-engine-3.5.1.1-1.el7.centos.noarch Any suggestions? thanks

Port mirroring outside traffic into a VM?

I have a network traffic monitor that is on a physical machine right now. It has two network interfaces: one with an IP on a regular switch port, and one without an IP on a switch port that is the target of a port mirror/monitor session for the desired VLAN. I'd like to move this system to an oVirt VM (I'm running 3.5.1). Is this the right way to go about it (and still have the VM migratable)? - I have several hosts with extra network interfaces; pick at least a couple, connect them to switch ports that are configured for mirror/monitor session. - In oVirt admin console, choose the Networks tab, click New. Give the network a name (like "monitor"), leave VLAN tagging de-selected and VM Network selected. Under the Cluster section, de-select Required (because the mirror won't go to all hosts). Click OK to create. - Click on the network, select the vNIC Profiles tab, edit the default profile and select Port Mirroring. - Go to the Hosts tab. For each host with a port mirror, click on the host, then choose the Network Interfaces tab and Setup Host Networks. Drag the new network to its attached port, click the pencil, and set Boot Protocol to None. - Go to the Virtual Machines tab. Click on the VM, choose the Network Interfaces tab, and click New. Hi all, I've just installed a new el7 datacenter, and many questions came up with. I was surprised to see that all vdsm generated ifcfg files were NM_CONTROLLED=no, and NetworkManager was disabled in systemd. The same for firewalld, disabled for regular iptables files. Will that default el7/fedora features be adpated to ovirt in a next release?

mixing tagged and untagged vlans on a same interface

Hi all, On a standalone libvirt/KVM, I've been used to mix tagged and untagged vlans on the same interface, the untagged vlan dedicated to the physical interface em1 and the other tagged ones to VLAN em1.X. I've just installed a new datacenter with an untagged ovirtmgmt and then realized that I've been prevented from attaching additional vlan to the same inetrface. Is there a reason for that, knowing that nothing should technically be wrong?

Issues adding a custom fencing agent

Heho, i currently try to get an intelmodular server working with fencing, following: http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/devel/2014-February/006525.html and http://www.ovirt.org/Custom_Fencing BaseInfo: Scientific Linux 6.6 (engine/hosts) Ovirt 3.5 I added an agent with: engine-config -s CustomVdsFenceType="intelmodular" /etc/init.d/ovirt-engine restart The issue is, that the added agent always results in: 2015-02-05 19:31:08,963 ERROR [org.ovirt.engine.core.bll.FenceExecutor] (ajp--127.0.0.1-8702-1) Failed to run Power Management command on Host , no running proxy Host was found. and: Test Failed, There is no other host in the data center that can be used to test the power management settings. Picking any other agent, results in the execution of the binary on one of the cluster hosts. (which, of course fails). Replacing one of theses default-fences with a bash-script echoing $@ to a file prints nothing, additional programs (id, env) however do print sth. to the given file. Problem on the manager

I have a problem on my oVirt managers, the problem is that the directory / var/lib/pgsql/data fills. Initially thinking that my file system /var/log 2Gb was too small now have increased to 4Gb and is refilled. How can I prevent this from happening, it may be due to the fact that I have implemented the backup manage with the script of backup.sh oVirt. Regards Massimo

Problem adding new host

Hello everybody, I have added a new host to my oVirt 3.5.0 and it has been added but when the installation finish the host remain in "Not operational state". The error in the engine.log file is that "CPU_TYPE_INCOMPATIBLE_WITH_CLUSTER". The host is a little old. I'm attaching part of the "lshw" host information and the engine.log files. I know that this host is not able to virtualize 64 bits VMs which it is possible to do it by the other four hosts. I would like to confirm if the problem is what I'm saying. Hello oVirt Users Community, I've been working with Red Hat and RHEL and clones for about 11 years, though I do still consider myself amateur mostly because I'm more of a networking guy. :) One-man IT department so I get very little time to tinker. I'm evaluating oVirt (because the boss said no to VMware) and will likely begin implementation soon to virtualize our datacenter. So I have a SuperMicro Twin2 (4 nodes) system and a cheap managed L2+ switch to use for now. Dual 6-core Xeon's and 24GB per node. The two on-board 82574L's are bonded 802.3ad, no issues there (so far). I currently have two 1TB WD RE4 SATA drives configured as RAID1 using the Intel RAID BIOS in each node. I understand this is software RAID. That's all working fine and I did this so that if a drive dies then I can still boot the machine(s). I have a 500MB partition formatted as ext4 for /boot. A 48GB ext4 for the root. 24GB for swap. And finally the rest (800-something GB) is LVM and XFS for Gluster. I've been following Jason Brooks' "Up and Running with oVirt" guides (which are great, BTW!). I have the cluster up and running with CentOS 7 and oVirt 3.5, hosted-engine on CentOS 6.6 and CTDB to host a virtual IP for the engine NFS mount. There are a couple test VMs running along with the engine on various nodes. I found it interesting that I was able to upload a ripped ISO of Win 2k3 Enterprise (not SP2) and was able to successfully boot it, after which I promptly installed SP2 and oVirt guest tools. I do very little with Windows, but there's always that one remaining customer that needs IIS and we're not about to buy a new Windows Server 2012 license just for them. So anyway, I'm having a problem with node reboots. They simply will not shut down and reboot cleanly. Instead, it looks like they hang after all processes are shut down, or at least attempted to be shut down. Then after a couple minutes, the hardware watchdog resets the system. I've came to the conclusion that sanlock and/or wdmd is causing the hangup. I'm guessing an active but non-responsive NFS mount is the culprit, possibly the ISO domain NFS mount which is on the engine? I've tried manually shutting down all oVirt, VDSM, etc. processes, unmounting all NFS shares, but it seems sanlock still has a hold on something in /rhev/.. I've Google'd a bit and have come across posts about this as well. Any tips here? Then I experienced something else odd yesterday. I did a yum update for the glibc vulnerability stuff. Gluster was updated as well which really threw a wrench into things because I wasn't paying attention and quorum broke, etc. I got that fixed. Rebooted all nodes (which is when I found the sanlock/watchdog problem). Nodes 2, 3 and 4 came back up, but node1 did not. I logged into the IPKVM console and found that it had no network configuration. All /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-* files were gone. I was able to manually reconfigure the physical interfaces, set the bonding back up and add the ovirtmgmt bridge. But then the engine reported the host as non-operational due to '..does not comply with cluster default networks... ovirtmgmt missing' which I was able to resolve by reconfiguring the host's network config within the engine GUI and all is now well. I'm just curious how/why the ifcfg files were wiped out? I haven't touched the network config on any hosts since running hosted-engine --deploy. Please forgive my ignorance and point me to the correct place if these issues have been discussed and/or resolved already. And overall I'm very much liking oVirt, especially as a viable and cost-effective alternative to vSphere. Thanks, George
