clear tasks from WebUI

Hi oVirt 4.2.5.2-1.el7 I tried to delete an Illegal vm disk and that failed. Then I completely remove the VM who had that broken disk. But task is stuck in the WebUI from my previous disk deletion attempt vdsm-client Host getAllTasksInfo on the SPM host, shows no tasks. How do I clear the tasks from the WebUI?

high load on hosts

I'm wondering how I can best limit the ability of VMs to overrun the load on hosts. I have a fairly stock 4.2 HCI setup with three well spec'ed servers, 10Gbe/SSDs, plenty of ram and CPU with only a hand full of light use VMs. I notice when the occasional demanding job is run on a VM I'm seeing load average on host node shoot up in to the 20-30s, how can a single "medium" vm cause host load to rise so high?

Hi, I am evaluating vdo for an hyperconverged ovirt cluster. The volume is on RAID device supported by a LSI (Dell Perc H710) controller with Write Back cache enabled : Current Cache Policy: WriteBack, ReadAdaptive, Cached, Write Cache OK However these LSI controllers (all PERC series on Dell servers), as per documentation, always report cache policy as writethrough to the OS, no matter if write back is effectively enabled or not : cat /sys/block/sdb/device/scsi_disk/0\:2\:1\:0/cache_type write through vdo by default choose its write policy (sync or async) accoring to the cache mode reported by the disk. So with cache policy auto, in that case it is set to "sync" : write policy: sync So my question : In this configuration, write cache enabled on the raid controller but reported as write trhough to the os, should I manually set vdo cache policy to async for optimal performance? Import VM from VMware OVA

Hi Team, 1) I exported a ovf file from VMware 2) I converted the ovf file to ova using ovftool successfully. 3) I imported the ova using the VM Import -> VMware appliance OVA -> provided the path of the ova (copied in ovirt location) 4) VM is successfully imported into the ovirt and I see the disk is also successfully imported BUT the disk is stored as image disk, What is the possible way to import the VM (as mentioned above) and store the disk as Cinder disk (currently always it is storing as image disk type) Any help is much appreciated. Hi all, After having successfully run cloud-init with the "initial run" box checked, I meet an issue after rebooting the el7 vm. At the boot time, cloud-init waits for a data source that doesn't exist anymore and I have to wait serveral timeouts like this one: open 'http://169.254.169.254/openstack' with {'url': 'http://169.254.169.254/openstack', 'headers': {'User-Agent': 'Cloud-Init/0.7.9'}, 'allow_redirects': True, 'method': 'GET', 'timeout': 10.0} configuration As a workaround, I must include in the initial custom script "touch /etc/cloud/cloud-init.disabled" so as to the vm to boot properly. Now I'd like cloud-init not to be fully disabled because I need it resizes the filesystem after the growpart step. OpenStack Block Storage Provider without authentication doesn't work

Hi, we're successfully using Cinder as a Block Storage Provider for oVirt with customized Cinder installation in a CentOS host according to OpenStack docs. Now i wanted to try out running Cinder in Docker and followed the instructions from https://thenewstack.io/deploying-cinder-stand-alone-storage-service/ (customized for use with Ceph RBD). This works to the point where i can setup an external provider and consequently a storage domain in oVirt. I set up the provider without authentication and testing this (by pressing "Test" button) works. When i want to create disks i realize that oVirt doesn't recognize the "Volume Type" definitions. In engine.log i see messages like 2018-10-03 12:04:46,990+02 ERROR [org.ovirt.engine.core.bll.storage.disk.cinder.GetCinderVolumeTypesByStorageDomainIdQuery] (default task-72) [06d4fbf7-0b3c-46b3-8166-148ee7f67a4c] Query 'GetCinderVolumeTypesByStorageDomainIdQuery' failed: null 2018-10-03 12:04:46,990+02 ERROR [org.ovirt.engine.core.bll.storage.disk.cinder.GetCinderVolumeTypesByStorageDomainIdQuery] (default task-72) [06d4fbf7-0b3c-46b3-8166-148ee7f67a4c] Exception: java.lang.NullPointerException I very much suspect that not using authentication (because of "auth_strategy = noauth" in cinder.conf) is the culprit. Listing types with cinder CLI from the engine host works (when using the appropriate environment). Can some of the RH devs confirm this behaviour? Is this an engine bug? thanks Matthias

re-enabling networkmanager

Hi, I have installed a 4.2 cluster on CentOS 7 nodes but I have follow an (old) procedure of mine done with 4.0 : so, I have disabled Network Manager before installing oVirt. The networks created and validated in the engine UI are : ovirmgmt on bond0 (2 slaves) failover mode storagemanager on bond1 (2 slaves), jumbo frames, aggregation mode, serving Gluster. Today, I installed Cockpit on the node to have the nodes consoles. But it say that it cannot manage the network without NM. So my question is : is there any risk to re-enabled NM on the nodes ? PythonSDK 4.2.8 issues updating cdrom iso of a vm.

Hello, I am currently fighting with attaching an iso to a vm's cdrom. There are two isos in the iso domain (A-Iso-Installer.iso and The-Iso-Installer.iso for our purposes), I can confirm the iso domain is attached to the cluster and everything is green. When attempting to attach the iso to the vm, I can see the pre and post output of the "/ovirt-engine/api/vms/<uuid>/cdroms" request, it shows the file id changing according to what the iso domain has available. However, whenever i attempt to power on the vm, from either the api or through the web interface, I get "Invalid ISO image path". Editing the vm through the web interface reveals that the "Attach CD" dropdown has selected the first iso ("A-Iso-Installer.iso", and I am trying to use the second). I ran a list against the cdrom service, found no issues with the xml that was returned. I confirmed that listing out available isos on the iso domain results in the expected id that I matched in the cdrom service of the vm from the api. If I ch oose the correct iso from the gui and save, the output looks the same as the api listing. OVN Configuration

High I've been trying for a couple months to setup an Ovirt Cluster with OVN/OVS implemented. I can make a network work on my home single server deployment but any time I create a vm on my hyperconverged setup the VM crashes stating it can't connect to the br:ex. (error messages aren't included because lab has 0 external connectivity). I assume this is due to nothing creating the OVN/OVS connections on each host in the manner that my single server does. I know there are ways to manage this such as ManageIQ but I haven't had any luck finding a good guide or walkthrough to get my systems to integrate those products. Does anyone know of where I could find one? Or willing to walk a dummy through it? Armond

Wrong VLAN ID for Management Network

Hi, Can I just changed the VLAN ID of the ovirtmgmt network in the Admin Portal. IN the OS the network is configured and verified for ovirtmgmt network to have a 21 VLAN ID, but in the Admin Portal, it shows VLAN ID 20, which is configured for the VM network. Problems with quotas

Hi, I need to use Ovirt's quotas system. I have approximately 50 users that use my Ovirt and they can create virtual machines only from templates, in total there are 20 templates. I have assigned a quota for each user, until here there are no problems. The problem is that in order for the user's quota to be used for each template, it must be linked to a specific quota, but only one. The only solution I see would be to have 20 templates for each user so it would be a total of 50X20 templates = 1000 templates and if a new user arrives 20 templates more and so on, which would not be a good solution. I think evidently or that I have not understood well how Ovirt's system of quotas works or maybe my problem can be solved in another way. Please I need your help

aquantia 107 (10Gbase-T NIC) driver for oVirt node-ng?

I'm not sure where to send a request for including the current Aquantia 107 (10GbaseT nic) driver to be included in the ovirt-node-ng image. I don't see a centos RPM for kmod-redhat-atlantic, apparently there's a scientific linux rpm available for download.

Storage domain has corrupt data

We have an iscsi storage domain that has corrupt data. The os boots to the login screen, but does not accept the password, so ovirt cannot connect to it. We are able to boot to a centos live usb and mount the root partitions to see that data, but that doesn't really help since it has iscsi targets. Is there any way to get the storage domain back online using something like a Centos Live USB? Thank you,

Lost access to Engine VM "The hosted engine has not been deployed"

For no specific reason, I lost access to Engine VM. when I run "$ hosted-engine --check-deployed" I get "The hosted engine has not been deployed" even though Cockpit Hosted Engine Setup page says "This system is already registered to ..." I have 3 node hyperconverged setup.

Hello, I’m RAIDing the local hypervisor disks. I’m aware that in some scenarios this isn’t even needed. But I would like to know which is the best practice in this scenario: Hardware RAID from a cheap Dell H330 controller, or just leave the controller in HBA mode and make a software RAID during install of the Hypervisor? Is it possible to start a setup of oVirt-Gluster Hyperconverged infrastructure with six nodes ?

Let's try this question again since my last thread devolved into someone else's question that had nothing to do with this topic. Is there are way to setup a new oVirt-Gluster Hyperconverged infrastructure with six nodes ? All the docs I see start with a 3-node cluster and then adding one node at a time. Is it possible to start with a six node cluster from scratch and use the storage space from all six nodes with Gluster? Six nodes, each contributing 2 TB of disk space. How much shared space will be available ? Thanks in advance for any help on this question. ravi

HCI cleanup of host1 possible?

Hello, I would like to cleanup a 3 hosts HCI install that didn't complete. If I connect to cockpit of second host it seems like an initial config screen. But if I connect to cockpit of the first host, that I have used in first attempt and I have rebooted in the mean time, it seems to find an engine config and doesn't show choice of install from scratch. On gluster engine volume I have already done clean up. Is there anything I can do on host1 to cleanup its partial config? Thanks, Gianluca

Dear all, I am going to deploy a self-hosted engine in order to manage 3 servers with 8 network interfaces each. I couldn't find in the documentation when the network shall be configured to perform the self-hosted engine deployment. In others words, what shall be done at the oVirt Node level and what shall managed afterwards via the Engine once the self-hosted engine is performed. Node version: virt-node-ng-installer-ovirt-4.2-2018062610 Storage: SAN via iSCSI I tried this order in my previous tests: 1. Install the oVirt node on every server with DNS configured 2. Configure IP + bond for the administration network (2 interfaces) 3. Configure IP for iSCSI network (4 interfaces) 4. Configure IP + bond for the VM network 5. self-hosted --deploy At this point, oVirt complained by not finding an network interface available for the deployment. Is the bond must be configured afterward via the Engine?

I attempted to create a new ISO domain however that option is not available in the drop down menu. Backport KVM bug fix for nested KVM in ESXi and Hyper-V

Hello, I send a dedicated subject message on this topic (second attempt because the first one seems not to be present in ovirt archive..). Also, the reply to my other related message seems not visible inside list archive page for some reason. It seems this nasty problem in nested virt using pc-i440fx-rhel7.X.0 machine type with X >= 3 impacts not only vSphere as main hypervisor for nested KVM, but other hypervisors too (Hyper-V) and other machine types too and could be due to a bug in KVM, so in the kernel, if I understood correctly. According to this link below https://bugs.launchpad.net/qemu/+bug/1636217 and its comment by Roman Kagan in June this year: " This is a KVM bug. It has been fixed in mainstream Linux in commit d391f1207067268261add0485f0f34503539c5b0 Author: Vitaly Kuznetsov <email address hidden> Date: Thu Jan 25 16:37:07 2018 +0100 x86/kvm/vmx: do not use vm-exit instruction length for fast MMIO when running nested I was investigating an issue with seabios >= 1.10 which stopped working for nested KVM on Hyper-V. The problem appears to be in handle_ept_violation() function: when we do fast mmio we need to skip the instruction so we do kvm_skip_emulated_instruction(). This, however, depends on VM_EXIT_INSTRUCTION_LEN field being set correctly in VMCS. However, this is not the case. Intel's manual doesn't mandate VM_EXIT_INSTRUCTION_LEN to be set when EPT MISCONFIG occurs. While on real hardware it was observed to be set, some hypervisors follow the spec and don't set it; we end up advancing IP with some random value. I checked with Microsoft and they confirmed they don't fill VM_EXIT_INSTRUCTION_LEN on EPT MISCONFIG. Fix the issue by doing instruction skip through emulator when running nested. Hello, I recently deployed oVirt in some hosts to evaluate it as one of my main virtualization tool. I like it a lot, but I don't know if this behaviour is normal: I just configured my iSCSI network against a IBM V7000, and from that point on, the host with the role "SPM" continuosly is reading from storage at about 7 or 8 Mbps. I don't know what it i doing, due to no storage domains are still created. How can I know what it is doing ? Regards, Silvio

Gluster snapshots on hyperconverged with VDO ?

I evaluate deploying ovirt 4.2 on centos 7.5 with VDO dedup in production. When deploying gluster with cockpit, after selecting deduplication/compression, the option to have the brick thin provisioned is grayed out. As a result, gluster snapshots are not possible. : - Neither in CLI : "snapshot create: failed: Snapshot is supported only for thin provisioned LV. Ensure that all bricks of data are thinly provisioned LV. " - Nor through the scheduler in volume management : I see the icon "Volume snapshots are scheduled" but I do not see any being created. There are no snapshot creation failure message in the manager. So I have two questions : - At deployment, is changing the gdeploy option manually from thick to thin supported for a LV on VDO device(or even a good idea)? - Should I open a bug report?

nul interface error when engine is creating ovirtmgmt bridge post-deployment

Hello again, I've been working on an automated solution that uses the API to add a host on first boot, the code checks out (or maybe it doesn't), however I can confirm that the ovirt engine works through adding all requirements of a host properly except when it gets to setting up the bridge on the new node. The following link contains the log lines from the engine.log file, I can confirm that if I go to the engine web interface, I see my two interfaces on the new node, em1 and em2 (this is a Dell R420 server), and I can click on the "Setup Host Networks" button. The proceeding dialog window gives me the ability to drag over the ovirtmgmt logical interface onto the active physical interface and once saved I can see the engine go to work on setting up the bridge without an issue. My understanding is that this is supposed to be an automated process (which is what i'm going for), might someone be able to help me understand why im seeing the error I am? Am I just missing something from the api standpo int that is supposed to tell the system which physical interface it needs to use for building the ovirtmgmt bridge on top of? One thing to note (it shouldn't matter I don't think) but the engine is behind a nat, communicating over a vpn to the new node. I have to nat traffic from the engine so the ip address seen is different than what was supplied to the ansible playbook, i'm not familiar with ansible nor the playbooks used to know if that will have adverse impacts such as i'm seeing in the logs. Affinity rules in ovirt

Hi Team, I tried to follow up the affinity rules using this tutorial : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rs_5BSqacWE but I have few clarifications in it., 1) I understand the VM to VM affinity, It means both the individual VMs needs to run on a single common host, Say I have 2 hosts, so what happens in case of failure of host running the VMs? 2) If I create a affinity group and I get the following data, i) What is host rule / vms rule - enabled, enforcing and positive ? "enforcing": "true", "hosts_rule": { "enabled": "true", "enforcing": "true", "positive": "false" }, "vms_rule": { "enabled": "false", "enforcing": "true", "positive": "false" } 3) What is the difference between VM to VM affinity and VM to Host affinity? Backport KVM bug fix for nested KVM in ESXi and Hyper-V

Hello, I send a dedicated subject message on this topic. Also, the reply to my other related message seems not visible inside list archive page for some reason. It seems this nasty problem in nested virt using pc-i440fx-rhel7.X.0 machine type with X >= 3 impacts not only vSphere as main hypervisor for nested KVM, but other hypervisors too (Hyper-V) and other machine types too and could be due to a bug in KVM, so in the kernel, if I understood correctly. According to this link below https://bugs.launchpad.net/qemu/+bug/1636217 and its comment by Roman Kagan in June this year: " This is a KVM bug. It has been fixed in mainstream Linux in commit d391f1207067268261add0485f0f34503539c5b0 Author: Vitaly Kuznetsov <email address hidden> Date: Thu Jan 25 16:37:07 2018 +0100 x86/kvm/vmx: do not use vm-exit instruction length for fast MMIO when running nested I was investigating an issue with seabios >= 1.10 which stopped working for nested KVM on Hyper-V. The problem appears to be in handle_ept_violation() function: when we do fast mmio we need to skip the instruction so we do kvm_skip_emulated_instruction(). This, however, depends on VM_EXIT_INSTRUCTION_LEN field being set correctly in VMCS. However, this is not the case. Intel's manual doesn't mandate VM_EXIT_INSTRUCTION_LEN to be set when EPT MISCONFIG occurs. While on real hardware it was observed to be set, some hypervisors follow the spec and don't set it; we end up advancing IP with some random value. I checked with Microsoft and they confirmed they don't fill VM_EXIT_INSTRUCTION_LEN on EPT MISCONFIG. Fix the issue by doing instruction skip through emulator when running nested. custom emulated machine in L2 ESXi

Hello, I had similar problem in the past with ESXi 6.0 U2 host where I defined a VM and used it as oVirt node for nested virtualization. If I run on this "virtual" node an L2 VM all went well until custom emulated machine value was at "pc-i440fx-rhel7.2.0". At some point the default became 7.3 and the L2 VM was not able to boot any more: it remained in blank screen at boot. The same up to now in 4.2.6.1 where this default seems to be 7.5 I'm having same problem in a mini lab on a nuc6 where I have ESXi 6.7 installed and try to setup an hosted engine environment. This problem prevents me to configure the hosted engine because the L2 VM that should be the hosted engine freezes (?) during its first startup and I see indeed that the qemu-kvm process is started with option "-machine pc-i440fx-rhel7.5.0" Being stated that I'm in an unsupported configuration, I would like to understand if I can correct in some point and proceed. So some questions: 1) How can I understand what is the difference between running qemu-kvm with "-machine pc-i440fx-rhel7.2.0" ad "-machine pc-i440fx-rhel7.5.0" so that I can then dig with ESXi parameters eventually to tune the settings of its VM that becomes my oVirt hypervisor? 2) Do I have any chance to configure my oVirt node so that when it runs the hosted-engine deploy it runs the engine VM with 7.2 parameter? Any conf file on host where I can somehow force 7.2 compatibility or set it as default? 3) during gluster base hosted-engine deployment at first "local" startup how can I connect to the console of the hosted engine VM and see where it is blocked? 4.2 User Portal

Hello! Users cannot edit and expand VM’s disks from the User Portal after 4.2 upgrade anymore. VM UI screenshot attached. Users can press Edit icon, but only “Editing” appears and nothing more. Same thing happens under admin’s accounts on User Portal. From Admin Portal everything is fine. How can we fix this issue, so users can edit they VM from the User Portal as it was in 4.1 ? Thanks.

Also, Bamboo's USERS table contains ONLY bamboo-administrator, while Jira demonstrates me as an individual from bamboo-administrator. My doubt, yet that is just a hunch, is this is identified with some "OAuth" setting for application connecting. There is an "Investigate" interface on the connected application page, however it just gives "OAuth investigating guide - Page Not Found" I do have root access to the Linux have, so I can settle things from the order line. What do I have to do to re-empower logins to the connected applications given that I can't login to them specifically?

Monkey script for copying VM/Host IP address

I believe it may be useful for anyone who often needs to copy IP addresses of Hosts/VMs from Ovirt and SSH to them. VM clone network interfaces names changes

Hello, I have a question indirectly related to oVirt - I have a VM with CentOS 6 running on my cluster, which has 6 virtual interfaces (eth0 - eth5). Now its a time to do an upgrade to CentOS 7 based, and I did a VM clone to test an upgrade process and was a bit surprised to see that now I have interface names shifted eth6 - eth11. I would afraid that I'll run out of digits soon :) Anyway how to change the interfaces names back to originals and perhaps prevent them form the further changes? I do understand that MAC address has changed, but don't get why it changing the interfaces names. Cleaning up everything from /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules doesn't really helped .. Downloading a disk image

I am trying to download a disk that I have on my oVirt cluster. When I go into the Disks section of the web UI, I can click on it then click on Download, but it never seems to actually download anything. I left it overnight to see if it was just slow, but then nothing seemed to download at all. How Many Logical networks supported

Hello, We are currently using oVirt for teaching and one of our requirements is for security such as IR PEN testing etc. We would like to create individual logical networks with a network profile that includes port mirroring, this is to reduce the amount of traffic they can see and the targets available. We are looking to to add VMs into Affinity Groups so they will run on the same host to make the port-mirror work but don't no if there is a limit on the number of logical networks that is allowed/practical. Hello everybody I am facing the following issue currently. I am trying to add a new physical host to our cluster via oVirt Management Engine Web GUI. Apparently communication between oVirt Engine and the corresponding host is working well, since all necessary packages will be installed successfully. But after a while the installation process fails with the error "No Route to Host" and the host ends up in state "non operational". I checked the network interfaces via Web GUI (Host -> Network Interfaces -> Setup Host Networks) and none of the interfaces are present. In my opinion this is the main problem. It seems the interfaces are not being recognized. I tried using a bond interface and a single interface with static configuration (IP, DNS, Gateway). None of them worked. vNIC tagged VLANs and Bond VLANs support

Hi, We have a need to create a VLAN tagged vNIC over a Bond interface and allow that same VLAN to be accessible to a VM who's NIC is the same Bond. Our testing shows that once you create the VLAN tagged vNIC, the VLAN is no longer available to VMs over the bond. Below is the config we are trying to create. VM#1 oVirt Interface = Bond0 Logical Network = vNIC70 (tagged VLAN 70) VM Host Interface = eth0 VM#2 oVirt Interface = Bond0 Logical Network = Bond0 / Host based VLAN 70 tag as sub-interface (eth0.70) VM Host Interface = eth0.70 Is there a way around this issue while supporting the requirement? What i did: Sysprep windows vm, maded template from it, did all what read from https://ovirt.org/documentation/vmm-guide/chap-Templates/ About Initial run tab: In vm hostname i write a win name, but what if it gonna be pool? What if it gonna be blank? Last section called Sysprep, what should i past there, entire sysprep file? Thanks!

Hello, following this reference guide: https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/gluster-hyperconverged/chap-Single_node… after having run with success the gdeploy based gluster setup, there is Setting up Hosted Engine Use the Ansible based installation flow of Hosted Engine to set up oVirt within a virtual machine. The storage details should be provided as type: glusterfs and connection path as: <hostname>:/engine (Replace hostname with address of host on which installation is carried out) What does exactly mean "Use the Ansible based instalation" ? Does it mean using cockpit web ui? In this casae I suppose I have to choose: Hosted Engine Deploy oVirt hosted engine on storage that has already been provisioned Correct? Thanks, Gianluca

IPoIB broken with ovirt 4.2.6

Hi, latest ovirt node stable (4.2.6 today) introduced a bug in kernel: IP over infiniband is not workingh anymore after an upgrade, due to kernel 3.10.0-862.11.6.el7.x86_64. You can find some detail here: https://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=15193 dmesg is full of "failed to modify QP to RTR: -22", and the networking stack (in my case used to connect to storage) is broken. The interface can obtain an address via DHCP, but also a simple ICMP ping fails. Does someone have news about a fix for this issue? TIA, Giulio

Disk move fails - Invalid parameter: 'initial size=

I am trying to move a disk to another data domain but it always fails with the following error. Moving to new storage questions

Good morning, We are in the process of moving our oVirt installation to a new storage solution. We have been 'move'-ing VM disks to the new storage without issue. We have several templates that use the old storage device - is there an equivalent process for moving template disks to the new storage unit? I see there is a 'copy' function in the template disk screen which creates a disk in the new storage domain. Can I then remove the original disk image from the original domain? ovirt 4.2.6 and cockpit with plain hosts

Is cockpit supposed to run on plain CentOS hosts? I didn't have it installed: possibly because it started as a hypervisor host in version 3.x when cockpit not available. During updates it has not put in as a requirement package. I manually installed it and then enabled/started the cockpit.socket systemd unit. I'm upgrading from 2 host w/ attached storage to 3-host HCI w/Gluster. What is the procedure for this? Is export domain depreciated? 1. Shut down and export all VMs - Do I use export domain? Or is the "Backup Domain" the newer method? 2. Detach domains from cluster and wipe hosts 3. Build HCI cluster, setup gluster bricks/vols 4. Attach backup domain and import VMs Thanks! Vincent

Storage advice

I have a small oVirt cluster running but I have been having problems with the storage and would like to completely start again with the storage infrastructure. Currently for storage I have a single server running windows storage server serving oVirt via iSCSI. I also have a smaller storage server which is currently not used. The oVirt cluster is not running a production environment but ideally I do not want to have to power it all off to patch the storage servers and oVirt cluster. 1x storage server, raid 10 24TB usable, 2x 10Gb ethernet 1x storage server, raid 10 4TB usable, 4x 1Gb ethernet 8x oVirt hosts, 1x10Gb ethernet on each 1x 24port 10Gb switch What would be the best way to utilise the storage servers? I was thinking about sticking CentOS on both servers and running Gluster with a 4TB replicated volume across both servers for the hosted engine and other critical VMs and then a 20TB non-replicated Gluster volume running on just the larger storage server for non critical VMs. I have another spare server which i could potentially use as a arbiter node. Would this work or would I have huge problems as the hardware performance of each storage server is so different? Any advice appreciated.

Hello My names ryan and im studying for my rhcsa and rhce also a linux enthusiast, im setting up my first ovirt server and have my ovirt engine setup aswell as my data center and host, ive come to the point where i need to configure storage. Ovirt is installed on a 256GB nvme ssd with my iso and master data domain pointed to the drive. I have 2 WD 2TB hard drives available that havent been allocated yet, id like them to be combined with lvm and have a single share exported via nfs that all vm's (3 vm's) in total can access for data storage Is this possible ? How to remove FC storage domain correctly? I turned off the FC storage domain in the cluster (maintenance -> detach -> remove), but the volume group still remained on the hosts and I would have to remove them manually and need to clear a multipath links too, before I turn off the LUN on the FC storage. How will the cluster behave if there are differences in the volume groups on the hosts? Because I can’t simultaneously delete partitions and multipath links on all hosts, and this process will occur sequentially on each host.

Cannot delete a stuck task

Hi, The task "Adding disk" is stuck at "creating volume". I tried to delete the task with "taskcleaner.sh", at CLI with list / remove jobs, deleted lastly the VM and restartet the engine-vm. But its still in the task list. Any idea to remove this job?

Hello! I'm almost ready to start with a new oVirt deplyment. I will use CentOS 7, self hosting engine and glusert storage. I have 3 phisical host. Each host has four NIC. My first idea is: - configure bond betwheen NICs - configure a VLAN interface for management network (and local lan) - configure a VLAN interface for gluster network - configure gluster for the hosted engine - start "hosted-engine --deploy" process is this enough? do I need a phisical dedicated NIC for management network? master domain wont activate

I was attempting to migrate from nfs to iscsi storage domains. I have reached a state where I can no longer activate the old master storage domain, and thus no others will activate either. I'm ready to give up on the installation and just move to an HCI deployment instead. Wipe all the hosts clean and start again. My plan was to create and use an export domain, then wipe the nodes and set them up HCI where I could re-import. But without being able to activate a master domain, I can't create the export domain. Bad libvirt-spice certificate - regenerate?

I have an oVirt 4.1 cluster that was initially installed with 3.5 in 2014. The SSL certificates on the physical hosts in /etc/pki/vdsm/libvirt-spice have a problem - the "not before" date is invalid (it doesn't include a time zone), and so I can't connect to VM consoles from a client with OpenSSL 1.1.0i (up to date Fedora 27). How can I regenerate these certificates? Also, I noticed they expire next year - is that expiration handled automatically? -- Chris Adams <cma(a)cmadams.net>

Hi, I'm trying to set up ovirt using the hosted-engine --deploy command on CentOS7, but am encountering an error. I am running a slightly unusual network configuration. I have two fairly basic non stacked gigabit switches with port channels connecting the two switches together. I have a lacp bond from the host consisting of 4 ports to each switch (bond1 and bond2). I have then created an active-backup bond (bond0) using the two lacp bonds as slaves in the hope to create ha at the switch layer using my basic switches. There is then a VLAN (101) on bond0. This network configuration runs fine on the host, however, when run, after a short while, the hosted-engine --deploy command outputs the following error: ... I have found recently I can't boot any VMs which have a CD attached to it. I get the following error. VM Test is down with error. I have a ceph filesystem that I can manually mount on my ovirt host. I've deployed and hosted-engine with the hosted-engine provided appliance. When runing hosted-engine --upgrade-appliance on one host, it tells me "If your engine VM is already based on el7 you can also simply upgrade the engine there." ODL and Openstack issue

I am running one controller and one compute node. Controller node is running both ODL and OpenStack. I created tenants, underthem i created networks and launched instances on them. All is see on ODL web GUI is 3 swithces, and I guess those are br-int and br-ex of controller and br-int of compute and the links are missing too. Is there anyway where I can see my whole OpenStack https://goo.gl/6CgufL topology on ODL GUI with the links?

lost connection to hosted engine

Hi, Just run into the issue during cluster upgrade from 4.24 to 4.2.6.1. I'm running small cluster with 2 hosts and gluster storage. Once I upgraded one of the hosts to 4.2.6.1 something went wrong (looks like it tried to start HE instance) and I can't connect to hosted-engine any longer. As I can see HostedEngine is still running on the second host (and another yet 7 VM's) , but I can't stop it. ovirt-ha-agent and ovirt-ha-broker are failing to start. hosted-engine --vm-status gives nothing but error message "The hosted engine configuration has not been retrieved from shared storage. Please ensure that ovirt-ha-agent is running and the storage server is reachable." ps -ef shows plenty of vdsm processes in defunc state thats probably the reason why agent and brocker can't start. Just wondering that is the good way to start problem resolution here to minimize downtime for running VM's? Restart vdsm and try again restarting agent and broker or just reboot the whole host? ISCSI domain won't attach

I setup an iscsi domain in hopes of moving away from NFS. I created a new logical network for this on a storage vlan. both hosts and storage server grabbed a good IP on this vlan. ISCSI Domain connected ok and I started moving disks over from the NFS domain. Transfers were completing so I let it do its thing. This morning, after the transfers completed, three things occurred in quick succession: 1. Affinity Rules Enforcement Manager started. 2. Invalid status on Data Center. Setting status to Non Responsive. 3. Storage Pool Manager runs on Host brian.xxx.net (Address: brian.xxx.net) Data Center. 4. Storage Domain domiscsi was deactivated by system because it's not visible by any of the hosts. Try to attach it again and it fails. Maybe after a few tries it just deems the domain is bad. Not sure! Any help is appreciated!

clean up a fc lun to reuse it

Hi all, I tried to install the Hosted-Engine on a FC lun, and the first time, it failed at the end because of a sanlock issue. So I fixed it and the re-deoployed from scratch until this new issue [ ERROR ] Error: Fault reason is "Operation Failed". Fault detail is "[Physical device initialization failed. Please check that the device is empty and accessible by the host.]". HTTP response code is 400. Before, I found that the lun [2] was used: [ INFO ] ok: [localhost] The following luns have been found on the requested target: [1] 36006016039a142001792ac5b1b9e513a 1024GiB DGC VRAID status: free, paths: 8 active [2] 36006016039a142006755b25b7505d26b 100GiB DGC VRAID status: used, paths: 8 active So it was the good explanation for the failure. Following the admin guide, I cleaned up the lun using |# dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/mapper/||36006016039a142006755b25b7505d26b bs=1M count=200 oflag=direct| And re-deployed it until it complains the device was not empty despite of before. The script still reported that the status of the lun was "used" Finally, I rebooted the host, and that time the script considered the lun status as free. So there is somewhere a bit of code into the ansible script that keeps the old status of the lun before dd, until rebooting. Is there an other way to refresh the lun status after dd ?
