VM clone network interfaces names changes

Hello, I have a question indirectly related to oVirt - I have a VM with CentOS 6 running on my cluster, which has 6 virtual interfaces (eth0 - eth5). Now its a time to do an upgrade to CentOS 7 based, and I did a VM clone to test an upgrade process and was a bit surprised to see that now I have interface names shifted eth6 - eth11. I would afraid that I'll run out of digits soon :) Anyway how to change the interfaces names back to originals and perhaps prevent them form the further changes? I do understand that MAC address has changed, but don't get why it changing the interfaces names. Cleaning up everything from /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules doesn't really helped .. Downloading a disk image

I am trying to download a disk that I have on my oVirt cluster. When I go into the Disks section of the web UI, I can click on it then click on Download, but it never seems to actually download anything. I left it overnight to see if it was just slow, but then nothing seemed to download at all. How Many Logical networks supported

Hello, We are currently using oVirt for teaching and one of our requirements is for security such as IR PEN testing etc. We would like to create individual logical networks with a network profile that includes port mirroring, this is to reduce the amount of traffic they can see and the targets available. We are looking to to add VMs into Affinity Groups so they will run on the same host to make the port-mirror work but don't no if there is a limit on the number of logical networks that is allowed/practical. Adding a new Host to Cluster via oVirt Manager fails with "No Route to Host"

Hello everybody I am facing the following issue currently. I am trying to add a new physical host to our cluster via oVirt Management Engine Web GUI. Apparently communication between oVirt Engine and the corresponding host is working well, since all necessary packages will be installed successfully. But after a while the installation process fails with the error "No Route to Host" and the host ends up in state "non operational". I checked the network interfaces via Web GUI (Host -> Network Interfaces -> Setup Host Networks) and none of the interfaces are present. In my opinion this is the main problem. It seems the interfaces are not being recognized. I tried using a bond interface and a single interface with static configuration (IP, DNS, Gateway). None of them worked. Resizing ovirt-engine disk

Hi all, We have a running ovirt installation on a SAN backend (installed in 4.0 via appliance, then updated to 4.1 and now in 4.2). At installation time we choose (or didn't change) the disk size and this one is about 10GB: fdisk -l /dev/vda Disk /dev/vda: 10.7 GB, 10737418240 bytes, 20971520 sectors Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Disk label type: dos Disk identifier: 0x000686fc Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/vda1 * 2048 20971519 10484736 83 Linux Can we grow the ovirt-engine disk like any other managed VM ? vNIC tagged VLANs and Bond VLANs support

Hi, We have a need to create a VLAN tagged vNIC over a Bond interface and allow that same VLAN to be accessible to a VM who's NIC is the same Bond. Our testing shows that once you create the VLAN tagged vNIC, the VLAN is no longer available to VMs over the bond. Below is the config we are trying to create. VM#1 oVirt Interface = Bond0 Logical Network = vNIC70 (tagged VLAN 70) VM Host Interface = eth0 VM#2 oVirt Interface = Bond0 Logical Network = Bond0 / Host based VLAN 70 tag as sub-interface (eth0.70) VM Host Interface = eth0.70 Is there a way around this issue while supporting the requirement? Joining domain w10 from syspreped template

Hello! Did anyone succeed in this in 4.2? A have a lot of questions about this. What i did: Sysprep windows vm, maded template from it, did all what read from https://ovirt.org/documentation/vmm-guide/chap-Templates/ About Initial run tab: In vm hostname i write a win name, but what if it gonna be pool? What if it gonna be blank? Last section called Sysprep, what should i past there, entire sysprep file? Thanks!

Hello, following this reference guide: https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/gluster-hyperconverged/chap-Single_node… after having run with success the gdeploy based gluster setup, there is Setting up Hosted Engine Use the Ansible based installation flow of Hosted Engine to set up oVirt within a virtual machine. The storage details should be provided as type: glusterfs and connection path as: <hostname>:/engine (Replace hostname with address of host on which installation is carried out) What does exactly mean "Use the Ansible based instalation" ? Does it mean using cockpit web ui? In this casae I suppose I have to choose: Hosted Engine Deploy oVirt hosted engine on storage that has already been provisioned Correct? Thanks, Gianluca

It was noticed that there is an official repo for it: https://github.com/oVirt/ovirt-container-engine Unfortunately it did not get an update for 2 years (4.1). IPoIB broken with ovirt 4.2.6

Hi, latest ovirt node stable (4.2.6 today) introduced a bug in kernel: IP over infiniband is not workingh anymore after an upgrade, due to kernel 3.10.0-862.11.6.el7.x86_64. You can find some detail here: https://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=15193 dmesg is full of "failed to modify QP to RTR: -22", and the networking stack (in my case used to connect to storage) is broken. The interface can obtain an address via DHCP, but also a simple ICMP ping fails. Does someone have news about a fix for this issue? TIA, Giulio

Disk move fails - Invalid parameter: 'initial size=

I am trying to move a disk to another data domain but it always fails with the following error. Moving to new storage questions

Good morning, We are in the process of moving our oVirt installation to a new storage solution. We have been 'move'-ing VM disks to the new storage without issue. We have several templates that use the old storage device - is there an equivalent process for moving template disks to the new storage unit? I see there is a 'copy' function in the template disk screen which creates a disk in the new storage domain. Can I then remove the original disk image from the original domain? ovirt 4.2.6 and cockpit with plain hosts

Is cockpit supposed to run on plain CentOS hosts? I didn't have it installed: possibly because it started as a hypervisor host in version 3.x when cockpit not available. During updates it has not put in as a requirement package. I manually installed it and then enabled/started the cockpit.socket systemd unit. Migrating to Gluster HCI - Export/Import

I'm upgrading from 2 host w/ attached storage to 3-host HCI w/Gluster. What is the procedure for this? Is export domain depreciated? 1. Shut down and export all VMs - Do I use export domain? Or is the "Backup Domain" the newer method? 2. Detach domains from cluster and wipe hosts 3. Build HCI cluster, setup gluster bricks/vols 4. Attach backup domain and import VMs Thanks! Vincent

Storage advice

I have a small oVirt cluster running but I have been having problems with the storage and would like to completely start again with the storage infrastructure. Currently for storage I have a single server running windows storage server serving oVirt via iSCSI. I also have a smaller storage server which is currently not used. The oVirt cluster is not running a production environment but ideally I do not want to have to power it all off to patch the storage servers and oVirt cluster. 1x storage server, raid 10 24TB usable, 2x 10Gb ethernet 1x storage server, raid 10 4TB usable, 4x 1Gb ethernet 8x oVirt hosts, 1x10Gb ethernet on each 1x 24port 10Gb switch What would be the best way to utilise the storage servers? I was thinking about sticking CentOS on both servers and running Gluster with a 4TB replicated volume across both servers for the hosted engine and other critical VMs and then a 20TB non-replicated Gluster volume running on just the larger storage server for non critical VMs. I have another spare server which i could potentially use as a arbiter node. Would this work or would I have huge problems as the hardware performance of each storage server is so different? Any advice appreciated.

Hello My names ryan and im studying for my rhcsa and rhce also a linux enthusiast, im setting up my first ovirt server and have my ovirt engine setup aswell as my data center and host, ive come to the point where i need to configure storage. Ovirt is installed on a 256GB nvme ssd with my iso and master data domain pointed to the drive. I have 2 WD 2TB hard drives available that havent been allocated yet, id like them to be combined with lvm and have a single share exported via nfs that all vm's (3 vm's) in total can access for data storage Is this possible ? removing FC storage

How to remove FC storage domain correctly? I turned off the FC storage domain in the cluster (maintenance -> detach -> remove), but the volume group still remained on the hosts and I would have to remove them manually and need to clear a multipath links too, before I turn off the LUN on the FC storage. How will the cluster behave if there are differences in the volume groups on the hosts? Because I can’t simultaneously delete partitions and multipath links on all hosts, and this process will occur sequentially on each host.

Cannot delete a stuck task

Hi, The task "Adding disk" is stuck at "creating volume". I tried to delete the task with "taskcleaner.sh", at CLI with list / remove jobs, deleted lastly the VM and restartet the engine-vm. But its still in the task list. Any idea to remove this job?
