Unable to install oVirt on RHEL7.5

SPM and Task error ...

Hi all, my ovirt cluster has got 3 Hypervisors runnig Centos 7.5.1804 vdsm is 4.20.39.1-1.el7, ovirt engine is 4.2.4.5-1.el7, the storage systems are HP MSA P2000 and 2050 (fibre channel). I need to stop one of the hypervisors for maintenance but this system is the storage pool manager. For this reason I decided to manually activate SPM in one of the other nodes but this operation is not successful. Changing disk QoS causes segfault with IO-Threads enabled (oVirt 4.3.0.4-1.el7)

We recently upgraded to 4.3.0 and have found that when changing disk QoS settings on VMs whilst IO-Threads is enabled causes them to segfault and the VM to reboot. We've been able to replicate this across several VMs. VMs with IO-Threads disabled/turned off do not segfault when changing the QoS. Yes, i use same manual to change WebUI SSL. ovirt-ca-file= is a same SSL file which use WebUI. Yes, i restart ovirt-provider-ovn, i restart engine, i restart all what i can restart. oVirt host deploy: disable multipath

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1472356 There are 2 drives in my install that oVirt is claiming as multipath. I have tried blacklisting at /etc/multipath/ but that hasn't worked. Any better solutions? I need these 2 drives to be non-multipathed.

Out-of-sync networks can only be detached

Hi, I have a 3-node oVirt cluster. I have configured 2 logical networks: ovirtmgmt and public. Public logical network is attached in only 2 nodes and failing to attach on the 3rd node with the below error Invalid operation, out-of-sync network 'public' can only be detached. Network Address Change

Hi All: I just has a case, I need to change the oVirt host and engine IP address due to data center decommission I checked in the hosted-engine host there are some files I could change ; in ovirt-hosted-engine/hosted-engine.conf ca_subject="O=simple.com, CN=1.2.3.4" gateway=1.2.3.254 and of course I need to change the ovirtmgmt interface IP too, I think just change the above line could do the tick, but where could I change the other host IP in the cluster ? I think I have to be lost all the host as once changed the hosted-engine host IP as it is in diff. sub net. Does there any command line tools could do that or someone has such experience could share? Hello, We are about to change our backup provider, and I find it is a great chance to choose a full supported ovirt backup solution. I currently use this python script vm-backup-scheduler (https://github.com/wefixit-AT/oVirtBackup) but it is not the workflow officially suggested by the community (https://www.ovirt.org/develop/release-management/features/storage/backup-re…) I've been looking for a long time an ISV who supports such an API, but the only one I found is this one : Acronis Backup Advanced suggested here https://access.redhat.com/ecosystem/search/#/ecosystem/Red%20Hat%20Enterpri… I ran the trial version, but it doesn't seem to do better than the vm-backup-scheduler script, and it doesn't seem to use the backup API (attach a clone as a disk to an existing vm). Can you suggest me some other ISV solutions, if they ever exist... or share me your backup experience?

USB3 redirection

Hi, I'm trying to assign a USB3 controller to a CentOS 7.4 VM in oVirt 4.1 with USB redirection enabled. I've created the following file in /etc/ovirt-engine/osinfo.conf.d: 01-usb.properties with content os.other.devices.usb.controller.value = nec-xhci and have restarted ovirt-engine. If I disable USB-support in the web interface for the VM, the xhci controller is added to the VM (I can see it in the qemu-kvm commandline), but usb redirection is not available. If I enable USB-support in the UI, no xhci controller is added (only 4 uhci controllers). Is there a way to make the controllers for usb redirection xhci controllers? Hello, how do we manage routing between different OVN networks in oVirt? And between OVN networks and physical ones? Based on architecture read here: http://openvswitch.org/support/dist-docs/ovn-architecture.7.html I see terms for logical routers and gateway routers respectively but how to apply to oVirt configuration? Do I have to choose between setting up a specialized VM or a physical one: is it applicable/advisable to put on oVirt host itself the gateway functionality? Hi all, I try to install hosted-engine on node : ovirt-node-ng-4.2.3-0.20180518. Hi, I am running ovirt 4.3 and have found the following action item immediately after configuring power management for a host: Host needs to be reinstalled as important configuration changes were applied on it. The thing is - I've just freshly installed this host and it seems strange that I need to reinstall it. OVN and change of mgmt network

Hello, I previously had OVN running on engine (as OVN provider with northd and northbound and southbound DBs) and hosts (with OVN controller). After changing mgmt ip of hosts (engine has retained instead the same ip), I executed again on them the command: vdsm-tool ovn-config <ip_of_engine> <nel_local_ip_of_host> Now I think I have to clean up some things, eg: 1) On engine where I get these lines below systemctl status ovn-northd.service -l . . . On a new 4.3.1 oVirt Node installation, when trying to deploy HCI (also when trying adding a new gluster volume to existing clusters) using Cockpit, an error is displayed "gluster-ansible-roles is not installed on Host. To continue deployment, please install gluster-ansible-roles on Host and try again". There is no package named gluster-ansible-roles in the repositories: [root@localhost ~]# yum install gluster-ansible-roles Loaded plugins: enabled_repos_upload, fastestmirror, imgbased-persist, package_upload, product-id, search-disabled-repos, subscription-manager, vdsmupgrade This system is not registered with an entitlement server. Hello, I recently read on this list from a redhat member that export domain is either being deprecated or looking at being deprecated To that end, can you share details? Can you share any notes/postings/bz's that document this? I would imagine something like this would be discussed in larger audience This seems like a somewhat significant change to make and I am curious where this is scheduled? Currently, a lot of my backups rely explicitly on an export domain for online snapshots, so I'd like to plan accordingly Thanks!

Hi! I have installed oVirt using the iso ovirt-node-ng-installer-4.3.2-2019031908.el7. I the did run the Host-engine deployment through Cockpit. I got an error when it tries to create the domain storage. It sucessfully mounted the NFS-share on the host. How to connect to a guest with vGPU ?

So far I try to access the console through SPICE and at some point in the boot process it switches to GPU and I cannot see anything else. Hi, Just like many of you I am testing my first CentOS 8 VMs on top of ovirt. I am not finding the package ovirt-guest-agent.noarch . Closest I can find is qemu-guest-agent.x86_64 After installing and starting it, I do see information reported on the "Guest info" tab. Can anybody confirm if this is indeed the agent we should be using? Is there - or will there be - a more specific package for ovirt guests? As you are replacing an old brick, you have to recreate the old LV and mount it on the same location. Then you can use the gluster's "reset-brick" (i thing ovirt UI has that option too) and all data will be replicated there. You got also the "replace-brick" option if you decided to change the mount location. P.S.: with replica volumes your volume should be still working, in case it has stopped - you have to investigate before proceeding. Good day for all. I have some issues with Ovirt 4.2.6. But now the main this of it: I have two Centos 7 Nodes with same config and last Ovirt 4.2.6 with Hostedengine with disk on NFS storage. Also some of virtual machines working good. But, when HostedEngine running on one node (srv02.local) everything is fine. After migrating to another node (srv00.local), i see that agent cannot to check livelinness of HostedEngine. After few minutes HostedEngine going to reboot and after some time i see some situation. I allready reinstalled many times srv00 node without success. One time i even has to uninstall ovirt* and vdsm* software. Also here one interesting point, after installing just "yum install http://resources.ovirt.org/pub/yum-repo/ovirt-release42.rpm" on this node i try to install this node from engine web interface with "Deploy" action. But, installation was unsuccesfull, before i didnt install ovirt-hosted-engine-ha on this node. I dont see in documentation that its need bofore installation of new hosts. But this is for information and checking. After installing ovirt-hosted-engine-ha node was installed with HostedEngine support. But the main issue not changed. Thanks in advance for help. Hello Everyone, Reading through the document: "Red Hat Hyperconverged Infrastructure for Virtualization 1.5 Automating RHHI for Virtualization deployment" Regarding storage scaling, i see the following statements: *2.7. SCALINGRed Hat Hyperconverged Infrastructure for Virtualization is supported for one node, and for clusters of 3, 6, 9, and 12 nodes.The initial deployment is either 1 or 3 nodes.There are two supported methods of horizontally scaling Red Hat Hyperconverged Infrastructure for Virtualization:* *1 Add new hyperconverged nodes to the cluster, in sets of three, up to the maximum of 12 hyperconverged nodes.* *2 Create new Gluster volumes using new disks on existing hyperconverged nodes.You cannot create a volume that spans more than 3 nodes, or expand an existing volume so that it spans across more than 3 nodes at a time* *2.9.1. ovirt hosted-engine on iSCSI offering one target

Hi, We have an oVirt Platforme using the 4.1 version. when the platforme was installed, it was made of : - Two HP Proliant DL380 G9 as hypervisors - One HP MSA1040 for iSCSI - One Synology for NFS - Two switches, one for network/vm traffic, the second for storage traffic. The problem : the hosted-engine domain was created using iSCSI on the HP MSA. The problem is that this disk array does not give the possibility to create different targets, it presents just one target. At that time we create both the hosted-engine and the first data domain using the same target, and we didn't pay attention to the information saying "i*f you are using iSCSI storage, do not use the same iSCSI target for the shared storage domain and data storage domain*". Question : - what problems can be generated by this (mis-)configuration? - Is this a must to do (correct) configuration. Regards.

hyperconverged single node with SSD cache fails gluster creation

I am seeing more success than failures at creating single and triple node hyperconverged setups after some weeks of experimentation so I am branching out to additional features: In this case the ability to use SSDs as cache media for hard disks. I tried first with a single node that combined caching and compression and that fails during the creation of LVMs. I tried again without the VDO compression, but actually the results where identical whilst VDO compression but without the LV cache worked ok. Unfortunately I have not been able to pinpoint the raw logs which are used at that stage and I wasn't able to obtain more info. At this point quite a bit of storage setup is already done, so rolling back for a clean new attempt, can be a bit complicated, with reboots to reconcile the kernel with data on disk. I don't actually believe it's related to single node and I'd be quite happy to move the creation of the SSD cache to a later stage, but in a VDO setup, this looks slightly complex to someone without intimate knowledge of LVS-with-cache-and-perhaps-thin/VDO/Gluster all thrown into one. Needless the feature set (SSD caching & compressed-dedup) sounds terribly attractive but when things don't just work, it's more terrifying.

Hey folks! Quick question, really: I have 4 servers of identical hardware. The documentation says "you need 3", not "you need 3 or more"; is it possible to run hyperconverged with 4 servers (in same rack, let's neglect the possibility of 2 failing servers (split brain))? Also: I have a nice seperate server (low power footprint, big on cpu (8) and has 32gb ram)-- would love to use this as engine server only. Can I initiate a hyperconverged system with 4 working host starting from a stand-alone engine? Or does "hyperconverged" a must for HA engine on the cluster? One last one: Installing ovirt nodes, obviously. This will by default create a lvm across the entire RAID volume; can I simply create folders (with correct permissions) and use those as gluster bricks? Or do I need to partition the RAID in a special way? Thanks for your pointers, Chris.

oVirt change IP's & add new ISO share

Good Day I have to change the IP addresses of the oVirt Engine, hosts and storage to a new IP range. Please, can you advise the best way to do this and if there is anything I would need to change in the database? I have also run into an issue where someone has removed the ISO share/data on the storage, so I am unable to remove, activate, detach or even add a new ISO share. DHCP Client in Guest VM does not work on ovirtmgmt

Hello, Is there any special config to usage dhcp client on Guest VM using ovirtmgmt/ovirtmgmt vnic profile ? Currently I have a VM using the ovirtmgmt/ovirtmgmt NIC profile and this interface is configured as DHCP client, and this does not work when using ovirtmgmt/ovirtmgmt as NIC profile. But if I assign manual IP address from the same range of DHCP server the comunication it works. And If usage other NIC profile in other VLAN with other DHCP server it works. It seems ovirtmgmt/ovirtmgmt profile filter the DHCP protocol. Could someone has idea to allow DHCP protocol works on ovirtmgmt/ovirtmgmt NIC profile? Best regards Carlos

External networks issue after upgrading to 4.3.6

After upgrading to the latest stable version the external networks lost all functionality. Under providers-->ovn-network-provider the test runs successfully. But when im creating an external provider network, attaching it to a router as a LAN setting up dhcp lease it is not reachable from other VMs in the same network. Hosts and hosted engine can't seem to ping it either. I tried disabling firewalls on both hosted engines, VMs and host and still nothing. When configuring Logical networks or VLANs they work perfectly tje one problem is the external networks. I have another environment running on a previous version of ovirt and it works perfectly there. I think its a bug. Thanks for your help

After importing the ovirt-engine 4.3.5 backup file into ovirt-engine 4.3.6, will the information of the ovirt-engine 4.3.6 management interface be the same as ovirt-engine 4.3.5?

The current version of ovirt-engine in production environment is 4.3.5.5. In order to prevent the ovirt-engine machine from being down, the management interface cannot be used, according to the relevant link: https://ovirt.org/documentation/admin-guide/chap-Backups_and_Migration.html I backed it up using the command: engine-backup --scope=all --mode=backup --file=file_name --log=log_file_name I have prepared another machine as a spare machine. The ovirt-engine version of the standby machine is 4.3.6, and the production environment ovirt-engine version is 4.3.5.5, which command is used on the production environment ovirt-engine machine: engine-backup --scope=all --mode=backup --file=file_name --log=log_file_name Files obtained after using the backup command on the ovirt-engine in the production environment are restored using these two files under the standby computer. Will the information on the ovirt-engine management interface of the standby computer be consistent with the ovirt-engine of the production environment (eg data center, host, virtual machine, etc.)? 2. I found that the logic network ovirtmgmt can only point to one network card interface. Can ovirt-node support multiple network cards ？ If yes , please tell me the method.

I have successfully managed to boot and install RHEL & openSUSE with Secureboot, but UEFI variables are not saved and requires some workarounds (there is a bug opened for that) to work. What exactly is your problem? I'm not sure, but you can try with replica 1 gluster volume. Later that gluster volume can be changed to replica 2 arbiter 1 or even better replica 3 volume. Ssh to host and check the status of : sanlock.service supervdsmd.service vdsmd.service ovirt-ha-broker.service ovirt-ha-agent.service For example if sanlock is working, but supervdsmd is not - try to restart it. If it fais, run: systemctl cat supervdsmd.service And execute the commands in sections: ExecStartPre ExecStart And report any issues, then follow the next service in the chain. it seems that drag and drop function does not working as expected in Setup Host Networks screen. It is not possibel remove NIC interface a interface from a Bond config. When I tried move a interface to outside Bond cofing, all block is moved instead of only the specific interface . Hi I've been experimenting with UEFI on RHV 4.3.6 using Windows Server 2019 but I guess posting on the oVirt list might reach a wider audience. I've used UEFI guests on other KVM-based virtualizations, but I have been unable to detect a UEFI-bootable CD using Q35 VMs with or without SecureBoot in RHV 4.3.6 since it doesn't even propose to load the UEFI loader from within OVMF. It seems to show the CD-ROM drive, but I cannot boot from file the disc from OVMF: Are there any hints? (I've tried finding something more detailed in the Docs though) I'd like investigate UEFI and SecureBoot on oVirt/RHV even if it's still considered a tech preview. (I've been using KVM-based UEFI VM for years already on other platforms and distributions with no particular issues, rather advantages overall). Regards Mathieu

What to do with old ovirt yum repos, and why are they kept around?

Hi, I just upgraded my engine from 4.1.9 to 4.2.8 to 4.3.x yesterday. One issue I hit along the way was a complaint about repos being listed more than once: Repository virtio-win-stable is listed more than once in the configuration Repository centos-sclo-rh-release is listed more than once in the configuration I also received errors like: http://mirror.centos.org/centos/7/storage/x86_64/gluster-3.8/repodata/repom…: [Errno 14] HTTP Error 404 - Not Found Trying other mirror. Even after I did a yum erase on ovirt-release40 (and ovirt-release41) I noticed that the 4.0 and 4.1 yum repositories (and dependencies) configurations were left in /etc/yum.repos.d/. Is there a reason these files are not removed when the associated release packages are removed? Hi, I spent yesterday trying to upgrade my self-hosted, single-host, ovirt engine from EL7.4/OV4.1.9 to EL7.7/OV4.3.x with a step at EL7.6/OV4.2.8. Unfortunately that first step was extremely problematic. It should have been fixed for 4.2.8 (or push a 4.2.9 with the fix). After googling around, I was able to work around this bug by moving semodule out of the way: mv /usr/sbin/semodule{,-bak} ln -fs /bin/true /usr/sbin/semodule and then running the update (I reverted after the update). I don't *like* this solution, but it got it working. Problems with glance.ovirt.org over IPV6.

Hi, there hope someone has experienced this situation and can help me further on his matter. Our current ovirt engine is trying to download images from http://glance.ovirt.org:9292 and the connection work normally whoever for some reason it also tries to download over ipv6 and our network is all based on IPV4 so the error I get is the bellow. Connecting to glance.ovirt.org (glance.ovirt.org)|2620:52:3:1:5054:ff:fe32:c1d9|:9292... failed: Network is unreachable I had tried the same from outside our network on a public place that works on IPV6 and I get the same error, as my understanding from the error message I am for some reason now able to reach the destination via IPV6, whoever my goal is to use IPV4 only and I would like to know if there is any way I can disable import or any checks done over ipv6 from glance.ovirt.org ? Ah... Never thought I can switch it to 'Auto'. Actually it makes sense - we can't be sure if all nodes in cluster are the same - like my case. Now all VMs are in Auto mode. Fedora 30 guest - kernel issue

Hi everybody, yesterday I updated some of my fedora 30 ovirt guest, and after reboot I wasn't able to control consoles via spice: I could see desktop, but mouse and keyboard were not working (nor were key command in remote-viewer menu, like ctrl-alt-F2 and so on). Let me specify it's not strictly an ovirt issue, and the problem goes away booting with old kernel (kernel-5.2.18-200.fc30.x86_64): the problem arises only with fedora kernel version kernel-5.3.6-200.fc30.x86_64. So: anyone has already faced this, before I dive into logfiles? TIA, Giulio

Process to remove ovirt metrics store

I'm just wondering if there is documentation available for complete removal of ovirt metrics store. I was testing it out but no longer want to continue using it at this time. I'm mostly interested in reverting the changes it makes to hosts/engine for logging. Thanks!

multiple vm got stack after gluster server hardware failure

Hello We have a cluster with 9 ovirt host and a storage cluster with 3 storage servers, we run ovirt 4.3.6.6-1. Storage is setup is replica 3 with arbiter. There is another unmanaged gluster volume which is replica 3 based on local disks of ovirt hosts and the engine and a few small pfsense vm reside on it. Yesterday we experienced a hardware failure on one raid controler on one of the storage servers, so the server stopped working. On that particular server on it's local disks was a nfs storage domain used as ISO. After the storage server failure multiple machines got stuck and in not responding state, others kept working but we could not manage them from ovirt. many machines had iso mounted so it may have to do with this. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1337073 But machines with ISO mounted were not the only ones affected. Allmost every host on ovirt clusterd switched from non responding to ok status, many machines were on unknown status even if they did not have mounted iso or even resided in any storage domain of the gluster cluster. I.E. pfsense machines residing on local drives as the engine. These machines could not be Powered off from inside the engine. In any case I could not put the iso domain on maintenance because isos were still mounted on varius virtual machines. I'm wondering what caused the allmost total failure, was it the nfs domain that could not be mounted ? And of course how could I prevent such a situation. I'm sending you the logs from the critical time period from one of the hosts. Ovirt Node 4.3.6 Logical Network Issue - Network Down

I have built a new host and my setup is a single hyperconverged node.. I followed the directions to create a new logical network. I see that the engine has marked the network as being down. If I've understood clearly, your goal is to have two physical network interfaces connected to one logical network in ovirt-engine. If this is the case, you can use bonding/teaming physical interfaces into one and then connect that aggregation to the ovirt-engine logical network. Moreover, as Jeremy stated, you can use that aggregated physical interfaces to transfer VLANs, taking advantages on redundancy/resilience and configuration flexibility. I'm looking for guidelines/ideas for moving/migrating/Hosted-engine from the initial install with local storage, to the "Final" server. Initial it was a "Test" to see if this will work or not, but this has now become the production, where the initial host named "ovirt" that is hosting the hosted-engine on local storage is "just" doing that. My hosted-engine is called "ovirtmgr" and I created a new host to run Virtual machines called "Hermod" - getting better in the naming thing, right? If you seek performance, then set tuned-adm profile in the VM to 'throughput-performance' and scheduler either 'noop' or 'none' (depends if multi queue is enabled). Usually, if yhou crete the gluster cluster via cockpit and then install the hosted engine via cockpit again - all options on your gluster volumes are the most optimal you need. Hey! I am trying a static IP deployment. But the HE deployment fails during the VM preparation step and throws the following error - [ INFO ] TASK [ovirt.hosted_engine_setup : Parse libvirt default network configuration] [ ERROR ] fatal: [localhost]: FAILED! => {"changed": false, "msg": "network default not found"} I tried restarting the network service, but the error is still persisting. Hey guys! I got a wierd issue today doing 'yum upgrade' I'm hoping you can help me with. The transaction failed because of systemd packages. What is your I/O scheduler and tuned-adm profile in the VM. RedHat based VMs use deadline which prioritizes reads before writes -> you can use 'noop' or 'none'. For profile, you can use high-performance. I'm wondering if anyone has any tips to improve file/directory operations in HCI replica 3 (no arbtr) configuration with SSDs and 10Gbe storage network. I am running stock optimize for virt store volume settings currently and am wondering what if any improvements I can make for VM write speed and more specifically anything I can tune to increase performance of small file operations such as copying, untar, npm installs etc. For some context, I'm seeing ~50MB/s write speeds inner VM with: dd if=/dev/zero of=./test bs=512k count=2048 oflag=direct -- I am not sure how this compares to other HCI setups, I feel like it should be higher with SSD backed storage. Same command from gluster mount is over 400MB/s I've read some things about meta data caching, read ahead and other options. There are so many and I'm not sure where to start, I'm also not sure which could potentially have a negative impact on VM stability/reliability. For example my gluster network IP is 10.10.10.1/24 and the /etc/hosts entry is: 10.10.10.1 gluster1.localdomain gluster1 Then I did 'gluster volume replace-brick ovirt1:/gluster_bricks/data/data gluster1:/gluster_bricks/data/data commit' So you use a hostname that is resolved either by DNS or /etc/hosts to your desired IP. In my case, the change was done after initial deployment. The reset-brick and replace-brick affects only one brick and notifies the gluster cluster that a new hostname:/brick_path is being used. Of course, you need a hostname that resolves to the IP that is on the storage network. WARNING: Ensure that no heals are pending as the commands are wiping the brick and data there is lost. Hi, I've deployed an oVirt HC starting with latest oVirt Node 4.3.6; this is my simple network plan (FQDNs only resolves the front-end addresses): front-end back-end engine.ovirt 192.168.110.10 node1.ovirt 192.168.110.11 192.168.210.11 node2.ovirt 192.168.110.12 192.168.210.12 node3.ovirt 192.168.110.13 192.168.210.13 at the end I followed the RHHI-V 1.6 Deployment Guide where, at chapter 9 [1], it suggests to create a logical network for Gluster traffic. Have you checked this thread : https://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2016-April/039277.html You can switch to postgre user, then 'source /opt/rhn/postgresql10/enable' & then 'psql engine'. When I launch ovirt 4.3.6, I see in the command line of the ovirt-engine: -Djackson.deserialization.whitelist.packages=org,com,java,javax That whitelist almost everything. Isn't that dangerous ?
