Self-hosted engine storage migration

Hi to all, let me explain the scenario: In developer lab, I have a ovirt 4.1 environment with a single host and a self-hosted engine. The hosted engine runs on a nfs storage type. In this environment runs twelve VMs (thirteen if we include the self-hosted engine). So, now I have the urgency to do the following activities: 1) Migrate the hosted engine storage from nfs to fc (I have now an fc storage on this host). 2) Upgrade the ovirt to 4.3 release. So, I would like to have your help to understand how to implement the above two steps in this particular case ( one host and the self-hosted engine ). Regards

Small SAN suggestions?

I have an oVirt cluster with a significantly oversized SAN for storage (iSCSI, have 30TB storage but am only using about 2.5TB). I'm looking for a more appropriately-sized setup. Any suggestions? This is currently a Dell EqualLogic array - it doesn't look like they really even have a smallish VM-storage (at least that isn't VMware) product these days. Looking at our stats, we're doing more write than read ops (outside of when backups run), typically under 150 write ops per second. I'm not looking at replacing servers right now, so not looking at hyperconverged. Just interested in what hardware people are using these days for a setup this size. Building new cluster today - OS recommendations

Hi All, I've been testing with a single server "cluster" running oVirt w/Gluster and am about to build my in house cluster using three Dell servers. I was planing on putting CentOS 8 on these servers and building oVirt on top. With the recent changes to CentOS changing to CentOS Stream, I have concerns. I'm tempted to build my cluster with CentOS 8 (as this is what I tested on) and assume that there will be some official word from oVirt as to how to proceed come end of year. Any suggestions from folks here? Any one know if there is anything out from oVirt crew already around this? Cheers, Gervais

Testing PXE uefi boot in oVirt

Hello, I'm testing a configuration with a CentOS 8.3 VM as a PXE server for UEFI boot. Its chipset/fw type is "I440FX Chipset with BIOS", I don't think it is important. And I have another (tobe, configured in hw as rhel 8.0) CentOS 8 VM configured now as "Q35 Chipset with UEFI" as a client. I already removed filters from vnics of both It seems that the client successfully downloads the BOOTX64.EFI but then fails fetching the netboot image with the message: Fetching Netboot Image Unable to fetch TFTP image: TFTP Error under tftp root dir I created grub.cfg this way set timeout=60 menuentry 'CentOS 8.3' { linuxefi images/c83/vmlinuz ip=dhcp inst.repo=http://172.20.0.1/c83/ initrdefi images/c83/initrd.img } and also a link to it with the mac address of the client in the form grub.cfg-00:1a:4a:19:01:54 -> grub.cfg documentation for uefi pxe server config is not quite clear on where to put it and naming Any good docs? Also the latest rh el 8.3 advanced installation guide is not so clear... How to prevent hosts entering emergency mode after upgrade from oVirt 4.4.1 Note: Upgrading from 4.4.2 GA or later should not require re-doing these steps, if already performed while upgrading from 4.4.1 to 4.4.2 GA. OVN network and external access

Hello, can I have external access from a VM with vnic configured on OVN network, still maintaining switch type of cluster to Linux Bridge? Or am I forced to use switch type OVS (that seems still in Tech Preview)? Thanks, Gianluca

Single Node Hyperconverged - Failing Engine Deployment - Network setup?

Ovirt newbie here - installing v 4.4.4 (well, trying to!) Following my post about failing Gluster setup, I can't get the self hosted engine to deploy. I'm installing on my HP DL380p G6. I have 2 disk 170GB Raid 0 for OS and 6 x 330GB disk Raid 5 for Gluster. DNS all set up, but Im realizing I'm missing something here. I have a feeling my problems with Gluster/Engine were caused by incorrect network setup. Seems I'm not the 1st to fall at this hurdle - some people in the community are saying RH have made it's deliberately difficult to get these 'free' set-ups working. It does feel a little like that! Most instructions just say that a 'self hosted, hyperconverged, single node setup requires 2 nics' - and that's about it! That is the 'Networking Pre-requisites'! I've had some help on here and Reddit which eventually made me find a solution some had had to use - editing lvm.conf to make sure my drive (sdb) was being blacklisted correctly. So, with that, Gluster installs, with following DNS settings: The kvm host (ovirt-kvm.whichelo.com) is fixed ip 192.168.0.40 on my 1st nic (Enp0s7) ovirt-engine.whichelo.com - 192.168.0.50 and ovirt-gluster.whichelo.com on 192.168.0.60 - I created I VLAN linked to the nic i want to use for gluster (Enp0s8) and gluster install worked. So now hosted engine won't install,, and pretty sure it's because I don't know how to set the network up properly. I'm seeing virbr0 coming up with different ip's - sometimes 192.168.1.1, sometimes 192.168.222.1. From what I've read, this is something to do with the Engine's network, but I really don't know! Am I still missing something? I can't find any decent instructions on how to do this - how (exactly) to configure the 2 'minimum required' nics? I came to Ovirt after realizing Oracle were dumping their own Virtualization platform in favour of KVM. Couldn't set it up from Oracle so moved to Red Hat - that was a no, and I was at the point where it made most sense to just run an Ovirt node for my KVM. I've got much further with Ovirt, but instructions do not work as easily as they looked! (example 'just click on single node hyperconverged' which didn't work straight off the bat until removing that LVM filter, which took days to find out! The single node HC server is a great match for a home lab/server like mine. I don't want another server, let alone another 2! I'm doing this partly as hobby, but also to update my skills during lockdown. Surely if we can get people using things like this at home, they're more likely to end up using it for work one day? Any help, or just pointing in the right direction, gratefully received! Hopefully I'm a biit clearer here. Happy to provide any logs or anything else.... Thank you!

Hello I can see some examples of what I am trying to understand, but I'm still not quite clear, perhaps someone can help? I am trying to lookup a list of network names to pass to the ovirt_host_network, networks parameter. I have the networks in my hosts file like: # Logical networks net: hosts: v1234-test-vlan: net_vlan: 1234 net_vms: true v1235-another-test-vlan: net_vlan: 1235 net_vms: true And now I would like to loop through those entries to pass as a list to the "networks:" parameter of overt_host_networks. VM stuck in reboot

Hi All, I am running on 4.4.4.7-1.el8 I messed up. I was doing some weekend maintenance on VMs and some VMs needed to be stopped and some rebooted and I stopped one, thought I clicked on the next one and clicked shutdown. But... I clicked reboot and shutdown on the same VM, now it is stuck. The Overview in the engine shows the VM "Reboot In Progress" and it has for two weeks at this point, it was a fresh VM so I just created a new one until I had this figured out, but here I am. Cockpit and Gluster

Hello, I have a hardware RAID 10 array and want to use Cockpit to deploy a hosted engine with replica 3 Gluster. Should I pick the JBOD option for this ? Will my disk alignments be correct for my PVs, VGs, LVs and xfs formatting? I don't see RAID 10. I see where it was removed in 4.2.8 -- I think. Thank You All For Your Help !

export a VM to export domain in 4.4.4

Hello, in 4.4.4 I see that I can import from export domain, but if I select "export VM" I can only export to a storage domain.... is this by design? What if I want to export from 4.4.4 and import into an older oVirt version? Thanks, Gianluca

hi ovirt 444 lxd, openvz in kvm have issues connecting to public network i can't to allow access to physical interface. In general i cannot seem to get containers direct access to the network e.g. in order to pull a dhcp address from my public network. I have tried macvlan, bridge mode, openvswitch as well. there are no connection issues on the baremetal server, but this issue exists on the kvm vm how to fix it?

Hi Matthew, this is a known issue for 4.3.6 release (OLVM or oVirt). You should check if your KVM cluster has VNC Encryption enabled; if this is the case you should: * disable VNC console for your Cluster (by OLVM/oVirt) * Comment out line "vnc_tls=1" in /etc/libvirt/qemu.conf on the KVM host. * Go to OLVM Web Console, Compute -> Hosts -> select <KVM host> -> Management -> Maintenance, then Installation -> Reinstall, to apply above change. * After above step reinstall KVM host, launch novnc VM console works fine. I'm running OLVM 4.3.6 (Consider it oVIrt 4.3.6). When I created my second cluster, I could not access the hosts on the second cluster using VNC (haven't tried to get html5 working). Since I was forced to power off everything, (power outage), I've had no issue with accessing the console on any host in the second cluster. I have just created a third cluster. Same problem. No issues with hosts on the first two clusters, but any host I've migrated to the third cluster, I cannot access the console. When I select a host, click on the button for 'Console' I get a download on my browser, I tell the browser to open the download, and I get, what I think is the Spice application starting and quitting in a second or two. I'm not looking forward to telling my management that we need another power outage.

Hi to all, during Windows 10 virtual machine utilization on the Portal VM, managed by oVirt as a standalone Manager with local databases and connected by HTML5 VNC console is totally impossible to use alt-gr. The keyboard layout is IT and I can't use for example the @ character.
