Two Problems On New Install

Hi Everyone, I recently installed oVirt 4.0 on two servers with an iSCSI backstore, and I'm having two issues I'm having trouble tracking down. First, the initial datastore that the hosted engine is running on won't connect. It just says "Unattached" in the GUI, and I can't find an error message anywhere. Not a huge deal, it just means I can't see the hosted engine itself in the GUI. I notice I'm also seeing a lot (like every 7 seconds) of this error: JsonRpc (StompReactor)::ERROR::2017-02-14 21:57:33,984::betterAsyncore::113::vds.dispatcher::(recv) SSL error during reading data: unexpected eof Which I can't seem to diagnose. Any ideas?

high number of IOPS from ovirt hosts

Hi, We've got a 8-host cluster running oVirt 4.1; each host is connected via iscsi to a EQL 4100 storage (2x). Most of the VMs use barely any IOPS, however on our storage controller we've noticed a constant steam of reads, about 2000 IOPS; any idea what might cause the ovirt hosts to hammer on the storage so much? Looking at iotop, it seems that systemd-udevd is being activated every few seconds (and its IO% is usually fairly high) so I assume this might be somehow related. Thanks, Andrea

Hi, I want to migrate from a bare-metal engine to a self-hosted one. I'm following the guide at: http://www.ovirt.org/documentation/self-hosted/chap-Migrating_from_Bare_Met… I've created a new VM with el 7.3 on the existing cluster, and used an NFS share as storage on another VM, (which does not fill up). Bandiwdth limit on a Virtual Machine

Hello. Is there any limitation of bandwidth for a Virtual Machine per default ? I have a host with a bonding of 3 x 1Gb and the VM is connected to that bonding. On the Engine interface on the VM status I see "Network" and it has a percentage and a tiny graph. What that percentage is related to ? 1Gb ? 3Gb ? 10Gb ? Is there anything that has to be done in order the VM can achieve speeds over 1Gbps ? Fernando

Ovirt not seeing cinder usage

Hello, Is it normal to not see the usage of a ceph backed cinder storage domain? If not, can someone point me in the right direction to see what I should be troubleshooting, I don't see anything obvious in vdsm/engine logs. Upgrading oVirt-Node-NG from 4.0.3 to 4.0.6

We recently migrated from 3.6 to 4.0, but I'm a little confused about how to keep the nodes up to date. I see the auto-updates come through for my 4.0.3 nodes, but they don't seem to upgrade them to the newer 4.0.x releases. Is there a way to do this upgrade? I have two nodes that were installed with 4.0.3, and I would like to bring them up to the same version as everything else. For reference, the 4.0.3 nodes were built off the 4.0-2016083011 iso, and the 4.0.6 nodes were built off the 4.0-2017011712 iso. Thanks, Thomas

Current state of UI brick management when using dedicated interfaces for ovirtmgmt & gluster?

Hey Guys, I currently use dedicated interfaces & hostnames to separate gluster traffic on my "hyperconverged" hosts. For example, the first node uses "v0" for its management interface & "s0" for its gluster interface. With this setup, I notice that all functions under the "Volumes" tab work, however I'm unable to import storage domains with "Use managed gluster", and hosts' bricks aren't listed under the "Hosts" tab. Issue with Moving Disks

Hi, I attempted to move a few disks from a glusterFS to an ISCSI file system. I have number of errors during the process, and it looks like a few of the disk moves are hung. They are hung at various percentages. in the events, it says moving Disk X from A to B, validation completes but i copying volume returns with an error. Is there a way to kill the move process so i can have access back to the VM's? Thanks

Hello all, I have 2 nodes in CentOS and oVirt 4.1 and since yesterday I see this event in dashbard pane Host ovmsrv05 has available updates: collectd,collectd-disk,collectd-netlink,collectd-virt,collectd-write_http,fluentd,rubygem-fluent-plugin-rewrite-tag-filter,rubygem-fluent-plugin-secure-forward. Actually collectd is not installed on my systen $ sudo rpm -qa | grep collect libcollection-0.6.2-27.el7.x86_64 $ And " yum update: brings no new packeage... what to check? Gianluca

Hosted Engine migration problems

Hi again: I thought I had fixed the hosted engine migration that was preventing me from updating the host the engine was running on. Today it let me migrate it from ovirt1 to ovirt2, and perform needed updates on ovirt1. When I tried to migrate it back to ovirt1 after the updates, I got errors that it failed migration. I tried an auto-migrate, and it claimed that the other two nodes (including the node it was running on) do not meet minimum requrements, specifically that they are not HA nodes....But I did explicitly set them up as HA nodes. Network issues

Need some help. I was doing some work on one of my ovirt hosts, removed it from cluster, and re-added it to the cluster to bring it back into my working cluster. I got a messege that my network's where out of sync. I accidentally sync'd up my working network, now neither of my hosts will bring launch my hosted engine appliance. While machines aren't currently mission critical, i do need to get these machines backup up and running. Gluster storage question

Hello list, Just wanted to get your opinion on my ovirt home lab setup. While this is not a production setup I would like it to run relatively reliably so please tell me if the following storage configuration is likely to result in corruption or just bat s**t insane. I have a 3 node hosted engine setup, VM data store and engine data store are both replica 3 gluster volumes (one brick on each host). I do not want to run all 3 hosts 24/7 due to electricity costs, I only power up the larger hosts (2 Dell R710's) when I need additional resources for VM's. I read about using CTDB and floating/virtual IP's to allow the storage mount point to transition between available hosts but after some thought decided to go about this another, simpler, way: I created a common hostname for the storage mount points: gfs-data and gfs-engine On each host I edited /etc/hosts file to have these hostnames resolve to each hosts IP i.e. on host1 gfs-data & gfs-engine --> host1 IP on host2 gfs-data & gfs-engine --> host2 IP etc. In ovirt engine each storage domain is mounted as gfs-data:/data and gfs-engine:/engine My thinking is that this way no matter which host is up and acting as SPM it will be able to mount the storage as its only dependent on that host being up. I changed gluster options for server-quorum-ratio so that the volumes remain up even if quorum is not met, I know this is risky but its just a lab setup after all. So, any thoughts on the /etc/hosts method to ensure the storage mount point is always available? Is data corruption more or less inevitable with this setup? Am I insane ;) ? Thanks,

Hello all, I was trying to give the latest oVirt a go and install it on my KVM system before committing it on any hardware. The installation went fine. When logging on into the node https://<node>:9090 I wanted to install an hosted engine but I get this messages Failed to execute stage 'Environment setup': [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/etc/iscsi/initiatorname.iscsi' Hosted Engine deployment failed But I must admit I have not set up iscsi nor do I want to. Maybe local, nfs or glusterfs. What is the way to do this properly ? Kind regards.

Optimizations for VoIP VM

Hello: I set up a FreeSwitch-based VoIP server as a host on my cluster, and am having audio problems. I'm not 100% sure if its virtualization related or network related yet. But I would like to optimize my VM for VoIP (or rather, tell Ovirt all the "right settings" to optimize that VM to VoIP). Does anyone have any specific suggestions? Are there known issues with VoIP on Ovirt-managed clusters? (I know well reputed companies that sell VoIP server virtual hosting and guarantee the performance, so I know VoIP Virtualization is possible, just need to know if its recommended with Ovirt, and if so what do I need to do to give it the best chance of success?)
