nested virtualization and promiscuous mode

I want to run a VM, which will itself be the KVM host of a number of KVM guests. Each of the guests running in that nested environment will have a vNIC with an IP address on the same subnet as the top-level hypervisor (the ovirt node). In VMware vSphere environments I was able to do this by enabling promiscuous mode and forged transmits on the VMware distributed switch port group, as described in this medium article; https://williamlam.com/2013/11/why-is-promiscuous-mode-forged.html I've search a number of old threads here on the ovirt list archives. Many refer to vdsm hooks that don't appear to exist any longer in ovirt 4.5.1. How can I accomplish the same thing in ovirt?

Hi, As you can see on the pictures I attached, uploading iso file to the disk but it was paused by the system and I can't delete them either from the disk. This is most frustrating. Please help me fix this issue if you can Furthermore, the issue i am having at the moment, i cant delete, edit disk. all the time i added another iso file to disk i got ERROR "paused by the system". And when i tried deleting the iso file, i still got another ERROR. "Finalizing Cleaning up" (For more than a week the status never changes) Please how can i fix it. I will be most grateful, if you can share with me any instance messenger (Skype, discord or telegram) for fast communications. I need you advise on this issue. Appreciated.

The .ovf files don’t exist on the Primary site for the VMs in question so they are not being replicated. Question is why aren’t there .ovf files on any of the hosts for those Vms? Regards Simon…

Cannot Log Into Newly Deployed Hosted Engine

I have a fresh installation of a 4.5.1 hosted engine and the admin password I set during the process isn't working. I reset the password for the admin user from a root shell on the HE using the ovirt-aaa-jdbc-tool utility and still no dice. I found a log file for "keycloak" that I tailed while logging in and discovered that keycloak was denying me. I am not familiar with keycloak at all. It appears as though I enabled keycloak during the deployment. Just a few quick answers may get me back to where I need to be: 1. How do I log into the web management portal ? Previously it was admin@internal and then the password 2. If keycloak is looking for some kind of directory server outside of the engine I don't have one, if the engine is the keycloak server what are my credentials for the HE portal ? 3. Can I re-run engine-setup and turn Keycloak off so that I have internal based authentication ? HCI Deployment oVirt 4.5

Hello oVirt Team I'm in the process of deploying a three-node oVirt hyperconverged platform and from the cockpit interface of the deployment node I keep running into the same error. The system finishes the gluster deployment phase (sometimes) and then prompts to continue with the hosted engine deployment but then fails immediately complaining about the naming convention of my network interfaces. My network interfaces are 802.3ad bonds configured during the installation process of each node using "bondx" naming convention consistent across all three nodes. Any wisdom or pointers would be appreciated.

Can't start VM because host has insufficient amount of CPU cores

Hi I just upgraded my oVirt installation from 4.4.10 to 4.5.1.2. The upgrade went through without any errors and most things seem to work but i have one critical problem now. Somehow it does not evaluate the correct number of CPU available on the hypervisor and blocks the start of a VM (except for the engine). The problem I only have on the hypervisor which has the engine deployed. I have three hypervisors, but only one has the engine installed. This hypervisor is also in a seperate cluster. After the upgrade, on the hypervisor which has the engine installed, I can't start a VM via the oVirt Manager. I can start the engine via "hosted-engine --vm-start" but if I try to start any other VM it fails with this Error: https://imgur.com/7lbGb8v -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Operation Canceled Error while executing action: Razor: Cannot run VM. There is no host that satisfies current scheduling constraints. See below for details: The host venge did not satisfy internal filter CPU because it has an insufficient amount of CPU cores to run the VM. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I did not change any specs for the VM and even if I reduce the VM to only use 1 core it fails with the error above. I have two same systems: 1 standalone engine + 1 node + 1 NFS storage. One system works well, but the other one, when starting a vm, always shows paused due to storage I/O error. Any one help me thanks!!!!

I'm seeing this too on oVirt 4.5.1 using CentOS Stream 8 for the hosts. The console is blank, no response to ping and I have to power off the VM and power it back on again to recover it. Recently, I've started using *oVirt-Engine* & *oVirt-Node* in my lab as I want to host a openstack kind of infrastructure hosting environment for my company. Now, my VM is created by loading CentOS 7.9 ISO from "iso domain" & storing "VM" data on "data domain". Here, I'm just curious to know about the NFS efficiency to manage VMs because the OS boots/loads from remote "NFS Data Domain", not from the local storage (i.e. oVirt-Node) Which is more efficient? VMs missing following Import of Storage Domain

Hi All, I have 2 oVirt 3 node Clusters in 2 Datacenters - effectively 2 independent environements with stretched VLANs for DR purposes. Each volume is geo replicated to the other datacenter. Each volume is a separate Storage Domain. In a DR event the geo-replicated volumes/Storage Domains are imported in the other Datacenter and the VMs imported once it's attached. The issue I am seeing is that some of the VMs are not listed when I click 'VM Import' from the imported Storage Domain. The disks for those missing VMs however, do exist in 'Disk Import' Tab of the imported Storage Domain. Prior to importing the Storage Domain in Site B, all VM disks were migrated to a single Storage Domain in Site A and geo-replication allowed to sync. Kind Regards Simon...

VM hangs after migration

Hi, I have a fresh Ovirt installation (4.4.10.7-1.el8 engine and oVirt Node 4.4.10) on a Dell VRTX chassis. There are 3 blades, two of them are identical hardware (PowerEdge M630) and the third is a little newer (PowerEdge M640). The third has different CPUs, more RAM, and slower NICs. I also have a bunch of data domains some on the shared PERC internal storage and others on an external iSCSI storage, all seems configured correctly and all the hosts are operational. I can migrate a VM back and forth from the first two blades without any problem, I can migrate a VM to the third blade but when I migrate a VM from the third blade to any of the other two the task terminate successfully, the VM is marked as up on the target host but the VM hangs, the console is frozen and the VM stops to respond to ping. I have no clues about why this is happening and I'm looking for suggestions about how to debug and hopefully fix this issue. I tried to upload .iso files but the status was "Paused by the system" and was waiting 15 hours for the status to change but still no changes, i tried to delete the .ISO file but i can't remove at all, its status was "Finalizing cleaning up" i waited 20 hours for the status to change but with no success. Kindly guard me through the process to fix this errors, so I can upload .ISO files to the Disk to launch the VM successfully. Please see below picture for the error. When the system pauses an upload, you can cancel the upload from the upload menu: Storage > Disks > Upload > Cancel This will delete the new disk and end the image transfer. To understand why the system paused the transfer, please share more info: - Which oVirt version are you running? - Did you add the engine CA certificate to the browser? You can check if the browser is configured correctly by opening an upload dialog: Storage > Disks > Upload > Start and clicking the "Test Connection" button. If this fails, you need to add the engine CA to the browser. When "Test Connection" is successful, try to upload again. can not access engine when hosted engine is up

Hi ovirt list, I need help. I ran “dnf update” on my engine and reboot it. Then I lost connection of the engine. When I access one of my host web management https://ovirthost1:9090, I saw engine status is “Hosted Engine is up!”, but another host of the cluster is in down status. How can I bring up my engine since it is “UP” now. �

Hello, I need to transfer a VM from oVirt 4.4 to vSphere. I see that the "Export as OVA" in the GUI exports in a format compatible with oVirt but not vSphere. Any hint? Any way to easily convert the oVirt generated OVA to a vSPhere compatible one? Thanks, Gianluca
