[Users] convert thin provisioned disks to preallocated

I am pretty sure I know the answer, but is there any way to do this gracefully, i.e. within the confines of the oVirt API? This is on an iSCSI storage domain. My understanding and further research suggest no, but I wanted to ask before we endeavor on a major overhaul of a production system that some one setup without knowing the better of to the 2 for such use. I am very familiar with the underlying systems (LVM, KVM, etc.) and would appreciate any suggested hacks. So far, here is what I have come up with: Sure to work: Setup a new VM with preallocated drives. Boot both VMs off of a live virtual CD. Use cat/pv and nc (netcat) to read directly from the block devices on one and write directly to the block devices on the other. Reboot the new VM from the internal disks. Tweak MAC addresses along the way so the new VM gets those of the old. The down side is the down time, but we can probably swallow it if we have to. Any other risks? Might work: Create a new VM. Identify the logical volumes (LVs) are assigned for that block devices used by the new and the old. Log into the SPM and read directly from the old LVs to the new. This is similar to that above, but I expect I need to run the data through some kind of qcow2-to-raw conversion process to make this work. Similar down sides to the above, but maybe less so? Thoughts? Another thought I had was to just write zeros to the empty space on the block devices, from inside the guest OS, until the full allocation is achieved. The down side is potential impact on performance of the system while it is filling up and for the (hopefully) very short time the file system is full before an rm of the zeros file kicks in. Also we would still have qcow2 underneath, so would it still add overhead, or does that only apply when it grows? Any other down sides to this? Hi, I noticed the hosted engine package was released as a beta package, too keen for my own good I tried to get it installed on a dev box. One of the pre-requirements is sanlock 2.8 and sanlock-python 2.8 but EL6 does not have these, Fedora 19 does have sanlock 2.8. I'm not sure if this needs to be reported. P.S. Great work on getting this amazing feature ready before release. Andrew .

[Users] Problems with RHEL 5 x86_64 VMs in oVirt 3.3

Hello all, Please, I'm performing tests with oVirt 3.3 and it has been working really well, except the fact that the installation of RHEL 5 VMs is not happening, not sure why. Does anybody else is experiencing the same issue? Details: Reproducible steps: 1) Start the VM via 'Run once" option. 2) Insert the boot parameters, for instance: linux text 3) vmlinuz and initrd are loaded without errors. 4) Black screen with a blinking cursor. 5) Anaconda never come up, Kernel is not loaded apparently. The same behavior occurs with the following versions: RHEL 5.9 x86_64 RHEL 5.8 x86_64 RHEL 5.7 x86_64 VM definitions: Operating System: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.x x64 Optimized for: Server If I simple change to a RHEL 5.9 32Bits ISO (Even with the 'Operating System' field defined to work for x64), I am able to carry on with the VM installation and everything goes ok. Fedora 18 and 19 for x84_64 works well, also RHEL 6 builds for x86_64. Packages in use: ovirt-engine-3.3.0-1.fc19.noarch qemu-1.4.2-7.fc19.x86_64 qemu-kvm-1.4.2-7.fc19.x86_64 libvirt-1.0.5.5-1.fc19.x86_64 Details and data collected: VM name: tests-rhel5-64bits engine.log vdsm.log qemu process arguments libvirt relevant logs Last test timestamp: 2013-Sep-05, 12:09 VM tests-rhel5-64bits started on Host dell-pe2950-1 Should I file a bug? Hi Moti, When you say As long as the bridge is defined on engine side and reported by VDSM you should be able to assign vms to it. What do you mean? I can't see bridge interfaces in the engine, it just shows the fisical nics. Is there a way to force engine to see the bridge? If I hide one nic, then if the visible one fails, I loose connectivity even if the other nic in the bridge is active? If I add both nics to the bridge (the hidden and the visible) and then by the engine assign the LN to the visible nic, is it going to work? I'm used to assign the ip address to the bridgen, no to one of the interfases member as this shouldn't work, and I guess that the engine will set the ip to the nic not to the bridge as it's what it sees. Sorry for so many questions, but I want to be sure of what I'm doing before testing it as I have to work on the production platform. Many of the people who contribute on a weekly basis to the weekly meeting have indicated that they're unavailable the next 2 weeks due to Holidays. Are there any objections to moving the Weekly meeting to Tuesday at 9AM EDT (13:00 UTC) for the next 2 weeks? If I don't get any objections, I'll reschedule the meeting on Friday. Thanks Mike

I'm experiencing an issue today on my oVirt 3.3 test setup -- it's an AIO engine+host setup, with a second node on a separate machine. Both machines are running F19, both have all current F19 updates and all current ovirt- beta repo updates. This is on a GlusterFS domain, hosted from a volume on the AIO machine. Also, I have the neutron external network provider configured, but these VMs aren't using one of these networks. selinux permissive on both machines, firewall down on both as well (firewall rules for gluster don't appear to be set by the engine) 1. Create a new VM w/ virtio disk 2. VM runs normally 3. Power down VM 4. VM won't start, w/ error msg: internal error unexpected address type for ide disk 5. Changing disk to IDE, removing and re-adding, VM still won't start 6. If created w/ IDE disk from the beginning, VM runs and restarts as expected. Is anyone else experiencing something like this? It appears to render the Gluster FS domain type totally unusable. I wasn't having this problem last week... [Users] FC19 upgrade, oVirt 3.3 and node problems

Of course=2C afterwards ovirt-engine wouldn't= start anymore=2C but I had my VM's running on the two hosts and I thought = I'd wait it out until 3.3 is released. Today my email server VM crashed and I cannot start it manually (tried vari= ations of the qemu-kvm command line=2C created tap devices=2C tried a few = other things without success). After a while=2C I bit the bullet and enabled the oVirt 3.3 repo=2C and did= engine-upgrade. This seem to have worked fine except for a missing link fo= r Java which I fixed=2C so now I can access the web admin portal. I can see= the hosts and VM's that are running or stopped but I cannot start any VM= =2C error message is: qemu-kvm: -drive file... Permissions denied I checked the path and everything is accessible on the host. Since I didn't have any other critical VM's on one of the host I made possi= bly the second mistake: downloaded the oVirt node ISO and reinstalled from = scratch. First it wouldn't register due to a UUID collision (crappy motherb= oard manufacturers) but I was able to make it report a valid UUID and worke= d around that. So I'm pretty sure, I will not able to use this db for 3.3 So my question, is there any way to reimport an existing iSCSI domain without passing hours of exporting/importing VMs from one system to the other? [Users] Compliance problem with ovirt 3.3 on Fedora 19

I attempted to setup and all-in-one solution on Fedora 19. I ran through the install which made a default data center and cluster. I created a host with 127.0.0.1 and then attempted to add the bridge that the test day documentation states does not get handled properly. After many reboots and disabling NetworkManager.service and enabling network.service as well as manually editing the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-* files I had a network connection and reduced the "errors" that seem to be keeping my host in the Nonfunctional state to: Host Localhost does not comply with the cluster Default emulated machines. The Hosts emulated machines are <UNKNOWN> and the cluster is [rhel6.4.0, pc-1.0]} Recommendations of something I may be doing wrong? Has running 3.3 on F19 been a bad choice on my part? Bug?

Firefox on CentOS 6.4 ( version firefox-17.0.8-1.el6.centos.x86_64) gives these kinds of layout, just after engine-setup phase. This is when selecting "Default" datacenter icon: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BwoPbcrMv8mvVGhxck9kTGJtLXc/edit?usp=sharing This is when I select the main "System" icon: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BwoPbcrMv8mvcU11czRsTW1yX1k/edit?usp=sharing the engine is freshly installed fedora 19 where to day I ran update and engine-setup after enabling beta ovirt repo (ovirt-engine-3.3.0-4.fc19.noarch installed) Anyone else? On my oVirt 3.2.2 environment I installed Solaris 11 U1 with the following specs: * Operating System: Other * nic1: rtl8139 * Disk1: IDE (Thin Provision) * Host: CentOS 6.4 with qemu-kvm-0.12.1.2-2.355.0.1.el6.centos.7.x86_64 These are the same settings as on my RHEL 6.4 KVM host (except I can choose Solaris 10 as OS in virt-manager), which has KVM version: qemu-kvm-rhev-0.12.1.2-2.295.el6_3.2.x86_64 (I wanted to use this host as a RHEV host, so the qemu-kvm-rhev package is installed in case you wounder)... What's working: * OS installation on IDE disk * Bringing up network interface What's not working on oVirt: * Network connections - on RHEL 6.4 with plain libvirt/kvm this is working... Hi Guys anyone have any idea why after move disk from 1 storage domain to another it creates 2 disks under target domain 1- preallocated 2- thin pro Please find attached output below moved VM-2_disk1 from "VM-disk" storage domain to "Migration domain" But under *"Migration" *storage domain 2 disk & under "*virtual machine"*disk section only 1 disk ..why .. is it due to snapshot which was created while move or do we need to manually delete another disk after move. Hi, I recently upgraded to the oVirt Nightly repo because I needed some patches not yet in 3.3, but it appears to have broken the live migration. Both of the nodes have the storage (glusterfs replicate), oVirt gives the error: Migration failed due to Error: Fatal error during migration (VM: gl01, Source: HV02, Destination: HV01). It seems to successfully transfer but then the receiving vdsm node gives the following error: Thread-58935::ERROR::2013-09-13 18:36:52,004::vm::2062::vm.Vm::(_startUnderlyingVm) vmId=`3867341c-b465-4285-9c35-0c5972527808`::The vm start process failed if ret is None:raise libvirtError('virDomainLookupByUUIDString() failed', conn=self) Suggestions? Hi, I am getting the exact same issue with a non-AIO oVirt 3.3.0-2.fc19 setup. The only workaround I've found so far is to delete the offending VM, recreate, and reattach the disks. The recreated VM will work normally until it is shutdown, after which it will fail to start with the same error. Engine and VDSM log excepts below. Versions: - Fedora 19 (3.10.10-200) - oVirt 3.3.0-2 - VDSM 4.12.1 - libvirt 1.1.2-1 - gluster 3.4.0.8 I'll upgrade to the latest oVirt 3.3 RC to see if the issue persists. Both machines are running F19, both have all current F19 updates and all current ovirt- beta repo updates. This is on a GlusterFS domain, hosted from a volume on the AIO machine. Also, I have the neutron external network provider configured, but these VMs aren't using one of these networks. selinux permissive on both machines, firewall down on both as well (firewall rules for gluster don't appear to be set by the engine) 1. Create a new VM w/ virtio disk 2. VM runs normally 3. Power down VM 4. VM won't start, w/ error msg: internal error unexpected address type for ide disk 5. Changing disk to IDE, removing and re-adding, VM still won't start 6. If created w/ IDE disk from the beginning, VM runs and restarts as expected. Is anyone else experiencing something like this? It appears to render the Gluster FS domain type totally unusable. I wasn't having this problem last week... Hi, I've just performed a clean install of CentOS 6.4 x86_64 (Minimal) along with oVirt 3.3 from the official EL6 Beta repository. This resulted in dependency conflicts between the official oVirt repo and EPEL. The following repositories were installed and activated: # yum localinstall http://resources.ovirt.org/releases/ovirt-release-el6-8-1.noarch.rpm -y # yum localinstall http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/6/x86_64/epel-release-6-8.noarch.rpm -y Followed by installation of the main oVirt engine and all-in-one configuration: # yum install ovirt-engine-setup-plugin-allinone -y This resulted in the following fatal error: Error: Package: vdsm-4.12.1-2.el6.x86_64 (ovirt-beta) Requires: mom >= 0.3.2-3 Available: mom-0.3.0-1.el6.noarch (epel) mom = 0.3.0-1.el6 Error: Package: glusterfs-api-3.4.0-8.el6.x86_64 (glusterfs-epel) Requires: glusterfs = 3.4.0-8.el6 Available: glusterfs-3.2.7-1.el6.i686 (epel) glusterfs = 3.2.7-1.el6 Error: Package: vdsm-4.12.1-2.el6.x86_64 (ovirt-beta) Requires: glusterfs >= 3.4.0 Available: glusterfs-3.2.7-1.el6.i686 (epel) glusterfs = 3.2.7-1.el6 You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest To resolve, priorities have to be set within the yum repository definitions: # yum install yum-priorities Adding arbitrary priorities to the oVirt and EPEL repositories rectified the issue - giving EPEL a lower value. Hi, I need help. I cant figure how to configure "logical networks" with my servers. My configuration is the following: ovirt manager 2 interfaces, eth0 and eth1 bonded ifcfg-bond0 DEVICE=bond0 IPADDR=192.168.44.105 NETWORK=192.168.44.0 NETMASK=255.255.255.0 GATEWAY=192.168.44.254 USERCTL=no BOOTPROTO=none ONBOOT=yes ovirt hosts (2 servers) 2 interfaces, eth0 and eth1 bonded for management ifcfg-bond0 DEVICE=bond0 IPADDR=192.168.43.10 (192.168.43.9 on the second server) NETWORK=192.168.43.0 NETMASK=255.255.255.0 GATEWAY=192.168.43.254 USERCTL=no BOOTPROTO=none ONBOOT=yes 2 interfaces, eth2 and eth3 bonded, used for VM networks. This is my problem. These 2 interfaces are exposed to a network trunk with a few vlan's. Do I need to create all the bridges for the vlan's at the SO level?? Can I create them in the web interface? Final RC builds have been posted to the beta repos on ovirt.org. The current scheduled release for 3.3 is set for Monday assuming no critical blocker issues are found before then.
