[Users] Using python sdk to find the VMs running on a host.

Hi, I am using the ovirt-python-sdk to figure out if the host is idle or not. The way to determine if the host is idle at a given instant is finding out the number of VMs running on it. If the number of VMs = 0 implies host is idle. I was exploring the python sdk to figure out Host-VMs mapping i.e What are the VMs running on the different host. Looks like the only way to find this, is to query each VM in /api/vms list to get the host on which it is running. Is this the right way ? Is there no direct query or REST API to list the VMs running on a given host at that instant. I was looking to get the data center hierarchy structure. Number_of_datacenters | V clusters in each data center | V Hosts in each cluster | V VMs on each host. This kind of mapping as seen on the GUI. Is there any way to obtain the same from the ovirt-python-sdk ? With this information, this would help me write scripts to turn-off my hosts if idle automatically and power them on as required. [Users] too much debugging in ovirt-node

Hi all, Using ovirt-node-iso-2.6.1-20120228.fc18.iso (2012 seems to be a typo, must be 2013?) is logging with too much debugging. Changing all the"DEBUG" to "WARNOMG" in /etc/vdsm/logger.conf and "persist /etc/vdsm/logger.conf" solved it for /var/log/vdsm/vdsm.log. However, /var/log/libvirtd.log also shows tons of debug messages. The file /etc/libvirt/libvirtd.conf shows: listen_addr="0.0.0.0" unix_sock_group="kvm" unix_sock_rw_perms="0770" auth_unix_rw="sasl" host_uuid="06304eff-1c91-4e1e-86e2-d773621dcab3" log_outputs="1:file:/var/log/libvirtd.log" ca_file="/etc/pki/vdsm/certs/cacert.pem" cert_file="/etc/pki/vdsm/certs/vdsmcert.pem" key_file="/etc/pki/vdsm/keys/vdsmkey.pem" Changing log_outputs="1:file:/var/log/libvirtd.log" to "log_outputs="3:file:/var/log/libvirtd.log" with persist (or unpersist first, thn persist) doesn't help. After a reboot log_outputs="1:file:/var/log/libvirtd.log" will appear again. How to decrease the log level for libvirtd? Kind regards, Winfried

[Users] remove vm after failed import

Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew how I could get a disk image of a failed vm import unlocked so I can delete the vm. The host that was importing crashed during the import and the vm image has been locked since. It also looks like the vm disk's storage domain is listed as the export domain and not the domain on the systems housing vms

Hi All, If I'm right I remember from the past that there was an ovirt-netapp package available, but I'm not sure. At the moment it's not in the repo, at least not 3.3 What is the status of this package/plugin ? I'm able to test this on a cluster and would like to help here if possible. [Users] VM Pausing with Storage IO errors

Hi, I have a ovirt 3.2.1 system that has a single VM which pauses soon after launch with the message "VM has been paused due to storage IO error". When it first occured it mentioned an issue with no storage. This is weird as it says I have over half of my 4TB iscsi pool free. I have checked the SAN, hosts and engine logs. I haven't been able to find anything that indicates the cause. Is anyone able to at least point me in the direction I should look further? Details : 3x Dell R720 VM Nodes (Dual Proc Sandy bridge Xeon, 96gb ram, boot from SAN) Dell MD 3220i iSCSI storage array Hosts are runing CentOS 6.4 VDSM : vdsm-4.10.3-0.36.23.el6 libvirt : libvirt-0.10.2-18.el6_4.8 kernel : 2.6.32 - 358.11.1.el6.x86_64 kvm : 0.12.1.2 - 2.355.el6.5 Engine is : oVirt Engine Version: 3.2.2-1.1.43.el6

Hi Everyone! If you made it to Red Hat Summit I hope you had a moment to stop by the oVirt booth in the developer lounge and say Hello! It was a great show and we had a lot of interest in oVirt from attendees. It was great working with Mike and Einav at the booth and I think it was a great show! One of the ideas coming out of summit was a "user showcase" page on the oVirt website with a list or some additional information about deployments of oVirt in the wild. We've got some of the usual suspects in mind but we want to hear from more of you! Is your organization using oVirt? How many VMs are being managed? How many KVM hosts are deployed? Let us know! [Users] Migration of VMs from 2 different ovirt-managers

Hey there, I would like to start off by saying hi, as this is my first post on the mailing list :-) Here is a little background on my setup: I currently have 2 ovirt setups: 1. ovirt-vps is ovirt 3.1 with 3 Hosts and 41 VMs (distributed on those 3 Hosts) -- oVirt Engine Version: 3.1.0-2.fc17 2. ovirt-hosting is ovirt 3.2.0 with 4 Hosts and 12 VMs (distributed on those 4 Hosts) -- oVirt Engine Version: 3.2.0-4.fc18 As I understand ovirt is structured as follows: Data Center -> Cluster -> Hosts -> VMs My goal would be to just have one ovirt setup, with two clusters - so to speak I would like to create a new cluster under ovirt-hosting, lets call it vps. And migrate all the hosts from the ovirt-vps setup to that cluster. Now I have done some reading where there was talk of cold-importing VMs (aka. stop the VM on a node, export it, then import on the new node); but that would require that I: a) create a new node and b) have to turn off the VMs. Is there any way to import the hosts altogether into the new cluster, and thus not touching the VMs. Would I require to upgrade ovirt-vps to 3.2 (also upgrading all Hosts to 3.2) before doing any migration? 40 VMs on the ovirt-vps setup use using the same physical network as the VMs in ovirt-hosting; but I suppose if I create the same network (for the last VM) they would have "identical" network setups. -- Mvh Alfred Angelov

Hi, I'm interested to know whether it is possible to obtain a VM's name from within a VM. In particular I'd like to obtain VM names from within Linux guests for the purpose of setting up dynamic DNS based on the VM name. I don't see the VM name in the output of dmidecode and there doesn't appear to be an entry in the ovirt guest API to obtain it. Hi all, I've recently started looking at oVirt to provide the next iteration of our virtualization infrastructure, as we have recently acquired some ISCSI storage. Up to now, we've been using KVM managed by libvirt/virt-manager locally on each of our hosts, using direct attached storage, which was obviously less than ideal. In setting it all up, I've hit a bit of a snag. We've got 4 GbE network interfaces on our pilot host (running vdsm on CentOS 6.4) which are connected to our storage arrays (equallogic). I've created 4 interfaces with iscsiadm for these and bound them, but when setting up the discs in oVirt, I've not seen a way of telling it which interfaces to use. The node makes the connection to the target successfully, but it seems its only connecting via the "default" iscsi interface, and not making a connection via each interface that I've defined. Obviously this means I can't use multipath, and being only GbE interfaces it means I'm not getting the performance I should. I've done some searching via Google, but I've not really found any thing that helps. Perhaps I've missed something, but can anyone give me any pointers for getting this to work across multiple interfaces? Thanks? Martin

HI All, I upgraded to 3.3 and tried to start a console. Whatever version of console I set, VNC or Spice, the browser downloads a console.vv file now. Am I doing something wrong or is this just the unreleased version ? Thanks for the help! Cheers, Matt

[Users] cpu stuck after joining fedora 18 node to ovirt

Dear all, we're facing this issue while trying to join a Fedora 18 server with the latest stable vdsm to an instance of ovirt-engine 3.2.2. Let's put things in context: we have this fujitsu rx200 server with a dual emulex fc nic connected with two fibres that go through two brocade switches, which in turn have four paths each to a vnx 5300 storage - that's a grand total of eight paths. Now. This server was previously employed as an ovirt node and was working correctly with the very same configuration, we simply reinstalled the server with the latest Fedora 18 stable release. The server boots fine and multipathd is already up and running. All the paths are valid and block devices are seen. Please note that those block devices contain our ovirt 's d.c. storage domains. We set up and enable ovirt's stable repo and proceed to install vdsmd, then we add the node from the webadmin interface. Bear in mind that we face the same issue by letting the engine install the vdsm daemon on its own. The node gets installed successfully and reboots. When the OS tries to initialize the storage we get this funny message about a random core getting stuck for xx seconds. Then it fails to mount /home and finally drops to the emergency shell. (see attachment) If we remove the host from the storage group and reboot it, it doesn't hang. A few things we tried to fix this up: * restored multipath.conf from a working node * put each mountpoint's uuid inside fstab * installed vdsm from fedora updates instead of the official ovirt stable * swapped two different fujitsu models (we had the same issue with another server: we swapped them and had the first one join a rhev infrastructure running on the same network without shedding a single tear) We consciously avoided installing ovirt node since we require more control out of our servers than such a minimal distribution will ever let us have, however we're willing to deploy it for troubleshooting purposes. Hi, After two months of stable usage of this 3.1 oVirt setup, here comes the first blocking issue for which I've no other mean to ask some hint. When I'm starting a VM, the start process is running fine. Being fast enough, we can ssh-connect to it, but 5 seconds later, the VM is paused. I don't know if I have to conclude that this issue is specific to this VM, but I sounds like yes. Things to say about this VM : - it it a RH6 IIRC. It has already been successfully started, migrated, stopped and rebooted many times in the past. - it has 3 disks : one for the system and two for datas. - it has no snapshots - it has no different or complicated network setup My storage domain is a SAN, iSCSI linked, and doing good job since months. I must admit I'm a bit stuck. Last thing I haven't tried is to reboot the manager, though I'm not sure that would help. -- Nicolas Ecarnot

I don't have a SRV record in my DNS so I have just installed dnsmasq on my ovirt-engine server and add : in /etc/dnsmasq.conf svr-host = _ldap._tcp.example.com,ldapserver.example.com,389 srv-host=_kerberos._tcp.example.com,krb5.example.com,88 in /etc/resolv.conf nameserver MY_OVIRT-ENGINE_IP_ADDRESS on the top of namserver and everything works. Who is right? If I try to make a snapshot get an error saying that the image does not exist . The really bad thing is if I shutdown the VM, cannot start it again, the error message is "Failed to run VM teste (User: admin@internal)." Any idea what I can do?
