Hi Sandro and the rest of oVirt gurus, My managers are positive regarding helping provide some ARM hardware, but it would not happened earlier than three months from now, as we are in process of establishing certain relationship with ARM HW vendor. In the meantime, I was asked to check if in current 4.4 version or coming 4.5, are/will there any capabilities or options of emulating aarch64 on x86_64 platform and if so, what would be the steps to test/enable it. Hi, OK, thanks for the tip. I always upgraded nodes via oVirt web interface, which is now 4.4.7, and I assume it can't update node 4.2 -> 4.3, because 4.3 is too old. Please correct if I'm wrong here. Clear task after export to ova unfinisced

Hi all, after succesfully done ova export of 120gb VM i launched export ova of 250gb vm but it is not finished. The time of task must be about 20 minuts. Now i have one unfinished task and locked vm. I know that it is complex task indluding a series of steps and clean db of task manually is not resolved it. Q: Node Upgrade Path

Hi, I have 2 oVirt nodes still running on CentOS 7.6. rpm -qa | grep ovirt - results in version 4.2. Does it makes sense to upgrade CentOS 7.6 to Stream, and then upgrade oVirt Node sw, or just leave for a couple of years till hardware will be trashed? I’m always keep oVirt Engine up to date, so my only concern if at any point it will stop support old Node sw. Thanks in advance for any suggestion. Andrei

Cloud-Init - What am I doing wrong?

I am running into an issue using Cloud-Init on CentOS 7. I have imported OpenStack Glance Generic cloud images for CentOS 7 & 8 and I chose to save them as a template at the time of import. In the template, under Initial Config I defined the following values: -cloud-init : checked -configure time zone: checked -choose dropdown for the correct timezone -VM Hostname, Authentication & Networks are all blank -Custom script: #cloud-config users: - name: ansuser passwd: $6$TcX2D/LcPtq/a$m6AKlcIbZXL9ZJGNSgeXjnKGsz98Yw.v7rt5m18zunittqjMTygf7KLliwxXwzFrvj8rrFpOMGZmUYoX.mWib. In theory I think this should create my user and set the password for my user. When I go to login to the system the login for my new user fails. What am I doing wrong? If I leave the Custom Script blank and put the user in the Authentication section the login works as expected. This tells me the image itself is working properly and is accepting Cloud-Init input. It would be my preference to add the user under the Custom Script section so I can further extend some functionality such as sudo: ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD:ALL and SSH keys so that an initial Ansible config could be run easily. I am going to test 8 in the same manner and see what happens. I sort of expect the same results though. Thanks in advance for you input!

upgrading gluster brick os from CentOS7 to 8

Hello, I'm in progress of moving my oVirt HCI cluster to production. It was a bit complicated process because I had two new servers to install oVirt from scratch in the lab and three old servers with standalone kvm hypervisors in production. One of them (installed with CentOS7) was good enough to join HCI cluster. All three old kvm servers had production vms running on them. New cluster was installed with CentOS8 and oVirt4.4, I started with single node, then expanded it to two hosts with one another which acts as arbiter (just for stability in lab envirnment). After some testing and tuning I moved this two node cluster (without arbiter node) to my server housing. Then I prepared gluster brick on that one old server which I want reuse and join it to gluster storage so now it is replica 3 - two nodes are CentOS8 based and acts as oVirt hosts, one is CentOS7 and acts also as standalone kvm hypervisor. Then I migrated all vms from standalone kvm hypervisors to oVirt, then switched off two oldest hosts. Now I would like to reinstall CentOS7 node to oVirt host. My plan is to keep gluster brick fs and backup configuration and restore it after reinstall to CentOS8 as mentioned in https://mjanja.ch/2018/08/migrate-glusterfs-to-a-new-operating-system/. I want to speed up gluster healing. Does it make sense? Now the questin: Brick fs was created on CentOS7 and don't have new xfs features FINOBT,SPARSE_INODES,REFLINK. Could it be problem? Will be better to recreate fs in CentOS8 and then do full heal? I am afraid that it will take a long time and make big load to production hosts. TL;DR: Does gluster/oVirt4.4 make use of FINOBT,SPARSE_INODES,REFLINK xfs features? btw. oVirt is great product and HCI looks really functional and usable (with 10GE network and SSDsof course). Good day, Some controllers do not allow to set a 4k block on a boot device. With some installations of Ovirt in the configuration of ssd for boot OS and hdd (4k) for data domain, engine is installed on ssd with a block size of 512e and then transferred to hdd 4k. and if I wanted to leave the engine on ssd (in a separate partition which will also have a size of 512e), I encountered an incompatibility error between block sizes 512 and 4k (example glusterfs or when the data domain was configured as posix compliant fs). NFS domain passed. As I understand it, the NFS uses 512e as well as the drivers of the guest machines, and a VM created on a domain with a 4k block will still have 512e. As a result, we have a block of size 512 in any case. Does it make sense to use devices with a 4k block at the present time? Is there any configuration to take advantage of 4K? Thanks in advance. Why does the HE Deployment Not deploy a hosted engine dc and cluster which fits the host in version? My Hosted Engine Deployment now fails again because of "Host hej1.5ervers.lan is compatible with versions (4.2,4.3,4.4,4.5) and cannot join Cluster Default which is set to version 4.6." I think the deployment shoud make a dc and cluster that fits the host that is used to deploy. Otherwise it's doomed to fail. Is there a proccess for fixing this? Hello everybody, using ovirt node many of the drivers to access storage are not in the kernel drivers (anymore). For example I have a bunch of (old) hypervisors (50+), with infiniband nics, used to access storage. For all those hypervisors I abandoned ovirt node, in favor of a base CentOS stream distro, with ovirt repo and using kernel-plus repo (conatining all the needed stuff). Obviously this is not a step I liked, I definitely prefer ovirt node. Now my proposal: why don't include kernel-plus in ovirt-node, instead of traditional kernel? I know this would be a big change, and maybe @Sandro and all RH guys (they have a more general perspective) can see some drawback I don't, but... hey, I just tried! :-) Thank you in advance, Giulio

Q: Node host becomes non-operational after upgrade

Hi, Today I upgraded oVirt Engine to 4.4.7.6, and then one of the nodes (running Centos Stream). After upgrade node (node14) becomes non-operational. Same after “Reinstall”. Additionally, there are MANY error messages: Host node14 moved to Non-Operational state as host CPU type is not supported in this cluster compatibility version or is not supported at all Quite strange, before upgrade problem with CPU host type didn't exist. vdsm-networking service is running fine on node14. vdsmd running but have this error message: Jul 06 21:19:23 node14.xxx sudo[3565]: pam_systemd(sudo:session): Failed to create session: Start job for unit user-0.slice failed with 'canceled' I suspect that there are unnecessary repos enabled in my CentOS stream node, which leads to this kind of errors. Hello, in oVirt 4.3.10 an export job to export domain takes too long, probably due to the NFS server slow. How can I stop in a clean way the task? I see the exported file remains always at 4,5Gb of size. Hi, Recently I’m upgrading our server cluster from 4.4.6 to 4.4.7 After upgrading HE, and several Hosts, every single Host that upgraded and activated have an issue with HA Score. CentOS 8 to Stream conversion

I have moved all my hosts from CentOS 8 to Stream, but the hosted engine is still Centos 8. Is it safe to use the same conversion of the hosted-engine from 8 to Stream while in global maintenance mode? Windows 10 Guest with nvidia Tesla P40 vGpu Bluescreens when I enable nested virtualization

Hi all, I have this issue when I go to create a VM, I want to run WSL2 but when I install it or windows defender application guard the computer bluescreens. So I am using CentOS 8 stream host connected to a VirtIO cluster the hardware is 2 Nvidia Tesla P40 graphics cards installed on a poweredge R480. My windows 10 20H2 Image would bluescreen after the nvidia drivers are installed. I did some testing and discovered after installing a clean ISO windows 10 20H2 that it worked fine even after installing the drivers for the vGPU but the master image does have WSL2 installed out of the box so I installed it on my Vanilla image and it would bluescreen. I imagine this is due to the nested virtualization and the installation of some hyper-v service maybe it is trying to initialize some hardware acceleration. Has anyone had this issue I really need WSL and would love to use version 2. Hi, I get the following when trying to migrate my HostedEngine VM to a new node in the cluster, I just did node reinstall via HostedEngine and rebuild of the gluster array on that node, bacause its a replacement for a crashed dead old node. Hi, You are probably creating the VM as a dependent on the template (thin VM), it means that the VM's disk should be created on the same storage domain as the template disk. In order to create the VM with a disk on a different storage domain, you can either create the VM as an independent (clone) or copy the template disk to the storage domain you want to create the VM disk on. Q: Strange Artifact with Networking After Cloning VM

Hi, I have Debian 10 VM under oVirt (HP ProLiant), with NextCloud/Collabora docker. VM is connected to external IP via 3rd Ethernet interface on ProLiant server to the switch/external IP link from ISP. VM doesn't have oVirt mgmt interface. Everything worked fine until my last upgrade which broke NextCloud, so I decided to restore recent backup copy, made with "Clone VM" from oVirt GUI. Now problem arises - network interface is not functional anymore at all, no traffic pass by. I deleted it, and created new one via Edit VM, updated /etc/network/interfaces on Debian, problem remains. ip a within VM shows no problems with networking, but even ping gateway IP and 8.8.8.8 doesn't work. I screenshot settings attached. Launching broken VM (which is a source clone of backup) shows no problems. Thanks in advance for any help. Andrei

Libgfapi considerations

Are there currently any known issues with using libgfapi in the latest stable version of ovirt in hci deployments? I have recently enabled it and have noticed a significant (over 4x) increase in io performance on my vms. I’m concerned however since it does not seem to be an ovirt default setting. Is libgfapi considered safe and stable to use in ovirt 4.3 hci?

Hi! I have tested also with last version of Ovirt 4.4, and I see that writing speed in 4 times more then with fuse. I think this is important reason to support snapshots with Libgfapi. Regards, Alex

Node 4.4.6 and Gluster deployment issues

Been beating my head against this for a while, but I'm having issues deploying a new 4.4.6 node hyperconverged cluster. It's a homelab/dev environment, so it's on pretty outdated hardware, SuperMicro X8DTT based systems. No on board raid controller, so that should help at least. Storage drives are a software raid 0 of two 1T SSDs at /dev/md/ovstore and disk traffic is on a separate network from management traffic; ssh-copy-id was run for both interfaces. It looks like it fails when trying to create the volume group on the VDO but I cannot figure out why it's excluded. /etc/lvm/lvm.conf is (should be) default from the install, raid is formatted with no partitions, and I've done a wipefs on the raid. I've been able to complete the same install on these devices with Node 4.3.9, but not 4.4.6. Logs are available at https://pastebin.com/yBzUpe3c

Hi, I updated packages on my system today and ovirt is no longer starting, turns out this is happening because of a selinux denial for a new feature of libvirt-7.4.0-1.el8s.x86_64 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1966842 a workaround is suggested in the ticket or you can set selinux to permissive until selinux-policy is updated. I recently discovered that the spark-line chart is not displayed in the dashboard of the ovirt admin page. As a result of looking up the code and query, the data of the calendar table in the ovirt_engine_history DB of ovirt-dwh was only available until 2021-01-01 00:00:00, so a query statement ( https://github.com/oVirt/ovirt-engine/blob/master/frontend/webadmin/modules…. RIGHT OUTER JOIN of properties) was not getting the correct data. First, the existing "generate_series('2011-01-01 00:00'::timestamp, '2021-01-01 00:00', '1 hours')" part was temporarily modified and applied until 2051. , it was confirmed that the spark-line chart was displayed normally. For this, is there a way I can directly edit the file (https://github.com/oVirt/ovirt-dwh/blob/master/packaging/dbscripts/upgrade/…) to commit or request a correction? I would like to know.

IPv6 Support

Hello, Reading https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/administration_guide/index.html#IPv6-ne…, I see this tidbit: - Dual-stack addressing, IPv4andIPv6, is not supported - Switching clusters from IPv4 to IPv6 is not supported. If I'm understanding this correctly... does that mean I cannot run some VMs with IPv4, and other VMs with IPv6, in the same cluster? If so, that's incredibly disappointing and frustrating. Is Dual-stack addressing a possible feature request? IPv4 addresses are expensive... and I have a couple of customers who only needs IPv6, so would really prefer to avoid having to pay for IPv4 addresses for them. Sent with ProtonMail Secure Email.
