oVirt Gluster Hyperconverged problem

Hi Guys, I encountered an unfortunate circumstance today. Possibly an achillies heel. I have three hypervisors, HV1, HV2, HV3, all running gluster for hosted engine support. Individually they all pointed to HV1:/hosted_engine with backupvol=HV2,HV3... HV1 lost its bootsector, which was discovered upon a reboot. This had zero impact, as designed, on the VM's. However, now that HV1 is down, how does one go about replacing the original HV? The backup servers point to HV1, and you cannot readd the HV through the GUI, and the CLI will not readd it as it's already there... you cannot remove it as it is down in the GUI... Pointing the other HV's to their own storage may make sense for multiple instances of the hosted_engine, however it's nice that the gluster volumes are replicated and that one VM can be relaunched when a HV error is detected. It's also consuming less resources. What's the procedure to replace the original VM?

Self Hosted Engine - Migrate to another host

Hi, I deployed a new cluster following this guide https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/how-to/hosted-engine/#fresh-install Which are after a few failed attempts, finally seems to be up and running. I have added a couple of additional hosts to the cluster through the web0ui , but I can't update the current 'self hosting' host as the hosted-engine refuses to migrate. HostedEngine: - Cannot migrate VM. There is no host that satisfies current scheduling constraints. See below for details: - The host 3 did not satisfy internal filter HA because it is not a Hosted Engine host.. - The host 2 did not satisfy internal filter HA because it is not a Hosted Engine host.. - The host 1 did not satisfy internal filter Migration because it currently hosts the VM.. I trawled google for awhile and found this post https://www.mail-archive.com/users@ovirt.org/msg34847.html So I tried to enable 'HA Reservation', but I can't because host '1' can't be put into maintenance mode because HE can't migrate

I've got = oVirt 4.0.3 using a Cinder external provider for Ceph (Cinder version is = 7.0.1 from RDO Liberty, Ceph is Jewel 10.2.2) to get access to RBD = images. Peculiar Problem in migrating storage from one to another domain

Realising the mistake, I moved the VM's disk from EXPORT_DOMAIN to MASTER_STORAGE domain. The engine reported that disk moved successfully. When I attempted to start the VM, I am getting error "Cannot start VM, related operation is in progress". This error has persisted over last 24 Hours!!. I attempted to remove the disk from VM, same error appears. When I try to delete disk from MASTER_STORAGE Domain, same error appears. What could have gone wrong in this disk movement? Testing oVirt 4.0.3 and 4.0.4 RC3 on nested KVM

Hi, I am testing the deployment of oVirt using ovirt-node next-gen and ovirt appliance on a nested KVM environment. My base system (the physical machine) is a FC24 with 16Go of RAM and nested KVM enabled. I used NFS for storage. Test with oVirt 4.0.3: - I created two hypervisors 5Go of RAM each and 4vCpu. - I installed ovirt-node next-gen OS. - I downloaded ovirt appliance and started the engine deploy using generated configuration from cloud-init (I reserved 2Go of RAM for the VM-engine). Problems : - I couldn't add the second hypervisor from the engine's GUI, when I tried to do it, ovirt-engine crashed. - I tried with the command line, the process terminated with errors. - There is no create a new ISO or Export domain only Data domain in the select list. Unfortunately I deleted the two hypervisors. Test with oVirt 4.0.4 RC3 : - I created two hypervisors 5Go of RAM each and 4vCpu. - I installed ovirt-node next-gen OS. - I downloaded ovirt appliance and started the engine deploy using generated configuration from cloud-init (I reserved 2Go of RAM for the VM-engine). Problems: - I couldn't add the second hypervisor from the engine's GUI, when I tried to do it, ovirt-engine crashed. - After adding the Data domain, the hosted_storage was added successfully, but the VM engine was not imported successfully, it's does not appear on the VMs tab. - There is no create a new ISO or Export domain only Data domain in the select list. - I added the second hypervisor from the command line successfully. - I tried to put the first hypervisor in maintenance mode, migration of the VM engine was started, from the command line I could see that the VM is running on the second hypervisor, but the migration process didn't terminate, I tried to reactivate the first hypervisor and put it in maintenance mode again, this time the ovirt-engine crashed. Nested oVirt : Unofficial network recommendations wanted

Hello, I'm trying to setup a nested oVirt for the first time, and according to what I read around and experience, some special network settings have to be chosen. For this first try, the bare-metal host is a Debian, running KVM, and the virtual NICs are setup as macvtap in VEPA mode. I'm not up to date with macvtap, but I think I understood that one of its limit was that no packet could be exchanged between the host and the guests. So far, this is leading me to access my own local VMs from another host. Too bad. I'm also witnessing frequent loss of packets. So far, I'm also seeing that guests can not ping each others, so I'm not going further before having solved these basic issues. I'm remembering the good old times of lots of bridges where my VMs could be reached by anyone (this was desired), but virt manager is not offering me this choice. I also would like to avoid NAT for other reasons. To you all (4) people who are playing with nested oVirt : - which is your preferred bare metal OS? - which is your preferred guest (first virt level) OS? - which network setups and modes are working best?
