[Users] How to configure sharedFS ?

Hi, From vdsm code i can see support for storage domain of type SHARED_FS But when trying to configure a new storage domain, i don't see SHARED_FS as a available domtype filed in the dropdown. I want to use shared FS to connect to try and connect to gluster mount point on my node, but unable to as I don't see that option. From http://www.ovirt.org/wiki/Features/PosixFSConnection - I understand that its the same as sharedFS, so what is PosixFSConnection then, is it just a new interface that provides a wrapper for what is sharedFS now ? The status of this says Done, but I don't see the UI part of this, am I missing something. Also pls let me know if usign sharedFS to make the node use gluster mount is correct or not ? thanx, deepak

[Users] permanent vnc password and custom properties

Any thoughts how to set vnc password permanently (without any scripts outside ovirt). ? Now I use cli command such: vdsClient -s 0 setVmTicket 75c42e2e-ac28-45ae-9c78-2e4f68ee9c07 <pass> 3600 keep But it's not so convenient. Second question is how to use "Custom properties" box - how should command/value looks like ? -- Michal

Omer, My storage domain was in "unattached" stage. Hi. Still not actually managed to test a vm... I can start a VM (and use spice) without a virtual disk. However as soon as I add a virtual disk the VM no longer starts example error message ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VM ddf is down. Hi I'm ovirt node using the latest ovirt-node-iso-2.3.0-1.0.fc16.iso, and having a problem with live migration After fresh install of node /etc/libvirt/libvirtd.conf listen_tls = 0 listen_tcp = 1 # tcp and tls ports are defaults # tls_port = "16514" #tcp_port = "16509" [root@ovirt-h-6 ~]# netstat -ant |grep -E "16514|16509" tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:16509 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN iptables is set to accept ALL When migration is attempted - it then tries and fails to use tls 2012-03-28 18:33:15.566+0000: 1622: error : doPeer2PeerMigrate:2129 : operation failed: Failed to connect to remote libvirt URI qemu+tls://192.168.192.230/system - manually configuring a registered/running node with listen_tls = 1, migration will then succeed - editing the live-cd and setting "listen_tls=1" , a fresh install then has some problems libvirtd fails to start on install due to a certificate error (which am guessing is installed as part of the node registration process with the engine) "Cannot read CA Certifcate /etc/pki/CA/cacert.pem" This also causes the setting of hostname/network details to fail during the automated installation; so this seems the wrong way to go I'm not sure if the problem here is live migration shouldn't be using tls; or that the node registration process should set "listen_tls=1" l; but isn't Any assistance appreciated Cheers, Dave ______________________________________________________________________ This email has been scanned by the Symantec Email Security.cloud service. I've seen a thread where OV is discussed as a feature test platform in the same vein as FC. That raises the question, for me at least, as to whether or not I should deploy OV in a production environment where it will host continuous build VMs in support of Agile Teams of developers. It looks really good but not if a new version comes out every six months or so and I have to do a reinstall. If it is a new feature platform, will easy (spelled "single-click" or something close to it) upgrading be supported? Thanx, Garth

When I go to configure a storage domain in the admin interface if I click on the Storage link (in the tree pane: System->Default->Storage) and attempt to add a new domain, the only type that is available is Data / NFS. However, if I Click on Default (in the tree pane) and then select "Default" DataCenter, and then Select the Storage tab at the top, and create a New Domain from there, I can choose ISO domain... ? In a similar vein, when I attempt to move a storage domain in/out of maint or removal, going in via the Storage link the tree pane doesn't allow you to select those options, but going through the selected Datacenter Storage tab does.. Hello, I am currently experimenting with an all-in-one setup (engine and vdsm on same host). I have my storage configured (data/iso/export domains all attached) and my local host is Up. When I try to create a VM with a CDROM device the VM starts but has no CD device at all. Any ideas why this would be happening? [Users] Cannot delete VM

Hi, I installed ovirt on F16 following the installation doc. The installation was a breeze and was also able to add a ovirt-node via the web console. I created a VM on the host (using a local storage domain on the same host). But I cannot delete the VM now, either via the webadmin console (which says "Browser Firefox version 10 is currently not supported") or via the cli. The webadmin console says "Failed to remove VM test (User: admin@internal)."). Attaching vdsm.log snippet from ovirt-node. [Users] Live migration fails

Live migration systematically fails in the following testing environment, despite all my imaginable variety of configuration. Excepting the live migration, everything works more or less fine. Engine host: DELL R200 8GB RAM Fedora16 + Ovirt-engine vers.3.0.0_0001-1.6.fc16 Node host1: DELL R415 / 16 core AMD / 32GB RAM OS: ovirt-node-image-2.2.3-1.1.fc16.iso Node host2: DELL R415 / 8 core AMD / 16GB RAM OS: ovirt-node-image-2.2.3-1.1.fc16.iso Storage server: CentOS6.2 x86_64 + iscsi-server (IET) + DRBD DELL R410 x 2 , replicated using DRBD 500GB partion is attributed as one LUN to the storage domain, shared by plural VMs ( 50GB each) Storage network is a GB ehternet independent to the ovirtmgmt network. Every network interface's FQDN and IP addresses are correctly resolved by DNS without ambifuity, and NTP also assumes it work correctly. Error message in the source node's vdsm.log explains the issue as connection problem to the counterpart node by qemu+tls (Please see the here-below log). Thanks in advance for any of your suggestion and/or advices. It would much help me also if you could tell me about how to test and diagnose the qemu+tls connction. It does seem that ovirt creates the directory with wrong perms? This is obviuosly some sort of bug (or it could be NFS setup related) Has anyone any ideas ? chmod 777 is not exactly a good 'solution' A new version of the ovirt node is out *(2.3) but there have been no changes in this area (so it won't be fixed in the newer version) Regards

The docs clearly state that the OVirt Engine must run on a box that is fully DNSed, both forward and backward. I've done that but am having trouble connecting a Node box that is not DNSed but does have a static IP. Do I need to DNS the Node box as well? Thanx, Garth

Thank you Gary. After re-mounting the NFS share with async it dramatically increased the speed ! I can now create a 10GB virtual disk in 2 mins (rather than 10 mins) Is using the async option more likely to cause data corruption though ? [Users] console confusion

my desktop system is running centos6 with downloaded firefox 10. i downloaded and compiled spice-xpi 2.7. i can interact with the console one time, then i have to log out of the portal and back in again in order to get the icon and popup menu to not be greyed out anymore. so i have a few questions: 1. is this just an issue of using an unsupported browser? 2. ie9 seems to be supported, but i obviously need something more to be able to view the console. i don't get an error, so i'm not sure what i should install. the spice viewer i find at spice-space needs libraries and the libraries there are just a zip file. does something need to go on the server to auto-download code? 3. i figured i'd try vnc, but in that case the icon and menu option are always greyed out. just trying vnc to the appropriate host requires a password and none of the ones i'd suspect seem to work. is there a default? or some way to find the password? 4. i saw some vague discussion of display networks in the manual, but nothing in the interface seems to jump out at me. it seems like for most uses, a simple web based console is what is needed. java or active-x (or javascript/canvas magic). is this something that is in the commercial version, but not the free one? 5. or am i just missing something painfully obvious?

[Users] Passing a hint/message to a VM when it boots

Hello, when creating a new VM from a template, i'd like to pass a hint of some sort ( perhaps a hostname ) to it so that the internal config managment system can do the rest of the setup. This should also be programmable via the REST API, as I want to use it for automated deployments. Has anyone had success doing this with Ovirt? i can only see two approaches: - Put the hint in a floppy / iso and mount it on the VM. - Hardcode a MAC address and let a DHCP server provide the hostname Both of these do not seem very optimal to me. I'd appreciate some thoughts from the community on how to proceed. Thanks in advance, k

[Users] Problems removing a VM

I'm having some problems trying to remove a VM. If I attempt to remove it, all the UI tells me is that it failed. No indications as to why it failed. However, if I dig into the logs on the server, it seems to be complaining that it cannot find the volume ("Failed to DeleteImageGroupVDS, error = Volume does not exist:"). If I attempt to just remove the disk from the VM, I get the same sort of response. The storage domain claims that it is active. What's next? (I only have 1 storage domain, 1 host, 1 cluster (OK, technically 2 if you count "default"), 1 datacenter) -- *Andre Kostur*

Hi folks - I hope this is the right place for this question; I have tried to Google this but in general haven't been able to find much in the way of docs outside of the main installation guide. In aforementioned guide there are instructions for configuring local-only storage on oVirt Node machines: "On a oVirt Node host, set up the path for the local storage as /data/images. This is the only path permitted for a oVirt Node. On a Red Hat Enterprise Linux host other paths are supported but the directories to support it must be manually created first." I'm probably missing something, but it's unclear to me how to create this local storage mountpoint on that host. (I don't see anything in the Node TUI.) I tried simply specifying "/data/images" in the hopes that it was automatically created, but the Admin console just spun indefinitely (eventually refreshing the page revealed that the store was note created). I'm currently rebuilding that Node as a F16+VDSM box instead -- so I can get in there and set this up manually (is there a way to get into schell on oVirt Nodes and mess with the [F16-based?] OS?) Any guidance greatly appreciated. Thanks, Hans

Hi. After my many issues with spice I have finally sorted them out. Now I am having an issue with the speed of virtual disk creation - when I go to create a virtual disk it takes a long time (far to long to be usable) My setup is as following 3 servers:- 1 Frontend (ovirt engine) - Fedora 16 - external + local IP (91.215.xxx.xx + 10.0.0.10) 1 Ovirt node (using the node .iso) - external + local IP (ovirtmgmt (eth0) - 91.215.xxx.xxx and LAN (eth1) - 10.0.0.101) 1 NFS storage - external + local IP - I attached the storage using the Local IP (10.0.0.190) All servers are connected via a Gigabit switch (so speed should be better) I can scp between servers far faster - I'm almost sure its due to the node ovirtmgmt address being an external (internet ip) and not LAN ip. - therefore the traffic is not just going over the gigabit switch but via the core router in the DC... Can anyone suggest how I can 'debug' where the slowness is coming from On my NFS server I have it setup like (in /etc/exports) /storage1 *(rw,sync,no_subtree_check) I had previous tried setting up the node on a LAN IP previously and it caused spice to not work - as the node had no internet access / DNS - I also tried making the frontend server a gateway (and using - iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -j MASQUERADE ) - this also cause spice to not work (as it always tried to connect to the 10.0.0.x address from my desktop - and fail..) Any hints/help will be welcomed Cheers

Windows is working fine but i'm getting blue screen when trying to start this particular application (which works fine in vmware). I figureout that there could be some kind of problem with memory. My question is about ballonning memory: is it on as default ? If yes, then how to disable it ? Did anyone also discovered such problemes ? -- Michal

Hi. [Users] spice issues preventing me using Ovirt (not been able to test it yet) - Is it possible to use VNC ?

Hi For the last few weeks I have been tried to test Ovirt - but am failing due to spice not working... I have created a bugzilla ticket about my spice issues https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=805552 At the minute spice just doesn't work for me - I have tried from multiple desktops - (1 FC16 1 opensuse 12.1) - both have the same spice versions (spice-xpi, etc). All I want to do really is see Ovirt working, can I use VNC or is that a WIP? If I select VNC in Ovirt how do I connect (the spice icon is greyed out) Or (preferred) can anyone help me with spice? Regards

Just checking to be sure that the Installation Guide doesn't have a typo, but do virtualization hosts really require 10 (ten) GB of RAM minimum, before even placing a VM onto it? (Page 8, Section 2.1.2.2) -- Andre Kostur
