Hi All: I just has a case, I need to change the oVirt host and engine IP address due to data center decommission I checked in the hosted-engine host there are some files I could change ; in ovirt-hosted-engine/hosted-engine.conf ca_subject="O=simple.com, CN=1.2.3.4" gateway=1.2.3.254 and of course I need to change the ovirtmgmt interface IP too, I think just change the above line could do the tick, but where could I change the other host IP in the cluster ? I think I have to be lost all the host as once changed the hosted-engine host IP as it is in diff. sub net. Does there any command line tools could do that or someone has such experience could share? Modifying every box's or Virtual Machine's = HOSTS file with a FQDN and IP SHOULD work, but in my case it is not. = There are several reasons I've come to believe could be the problem = during my trial-and-errors testing and learning. FIRST - MACHINE IPs. THe machine's "Names" where not appearing in the Microsoft Active = Directory DHCP along with their assigned IPs; in other words, the DHCP = just showed an "Assigned IP", equal to the Linux Machine's IP, with a = <empty> ('i.e. blank, none, silch, plan old "no-letters-or-numbers") = "Name" in the "Name" (i.e. machines "network name", or FQDN-value used = by the Windows AD DNS-service) column. =20 if your IP is is appearing with an <empty> "name", there is no "host = name" to associate the IP, it makes it difficult to define a FQDN; which = isn't that useful if we're going to use the HOSTS files in all = participating machines in an oVirt Installation. I kept banging my head for three (3) long hours trying to find the = problem. In Fedora 18, I could't find where the "network name" of the machine = could be defined. =20 I tried putting the "Additional Search Domains" and/or "DHCP Client ID" = in Fedora's 18 Desktop - under "System Settings > Hardware > Network > = Options > IPv4 Setting" The DHCP went crazy; showing an "Aberrant-MAC-Address" (i.e. a really = long-sting value where the machine's MAC address should be), and we knew = the MAC address as we obtained using "ifconfig" on the machine getting = it's IP from the DHCP. So we reverted these entries from the = aforementioned, rebooted, and got an assigned IP, with proper MAC = address, but still no "Name" Kept wondering around the "Settings" and seeing which one made sense, = but what the heck, I went for it. =20 Under "System Settings > System > Details" I found the information about = GNOME and the machine's hardware. =20 There was a field for "Device Name" that originally had = "localhost.localdomain"; I changed the value to "ovirtmanager". and = under "Graphic" changed to "Forced Fallback Mode" to "ON". =20 I also installed all Kerberos libraries and client (i.e. authconfig-gtk, = authhub, authhub-client, krb5-apple-clents, krb5-auth-dialog, = krb5-workstation, pam-kcoda, pam-krb5, root-net.krb5) and rebooted VOILA=85!!! =20 I don;t know if it was the definition of "Device Name" from = "localhost.localdomain" to "ovirtengine", of the Kerberos libraries = install, or both. But finally the MS AD DHCP was showing the = Addigned-IP, the machine "Name" and the proper MAC-address. Regardless, = setting the machine's "Network Name" under "System Settings > System > = Details > Device Name", with no explanation of what "Device Name" meant = or was used for, was the last place I would have imagined this network = setting could be defined. NOTE - Somebody has to try the two steps I did together, separately. to = see which one is the real problem-solver; for me it is working, and "if = it ain't broke, don't fix it=85" Now that I have the DHCP / IP thing sorted, I have to do the DNS stuff. To this point, I've addressed the DHCP and "Network Name" of the = IP-Lease (required for the DNS to work). This still does't completely = explain why, by modifying the HOSTS file (allowing be to set and IP and = non-DNS FQDN). allows me to install the oVirtEngine "as long as I do not = use default HTTPd service parameters as suggested by the install". [Users] Lifecycle / upgradepath

Hi Community, Currently, there is no single document describing supported (which means: working ) upgrade scenarios. I think the project has matured enough, to have such an supported upgradepath, which should be considered in the development of new releases. As far as I know, currently it is supported to upgrade from x.y.z to x.y.z+1 and from x.y.z to x.y+1.z but not from x.y-1.z to x.y+1.z directly. maybe this should be put together in a wiki page at least. also it would be cool to know how long a single "release" would be supported. In this context I would define a release as a version bump from x.y.z to x.y+1.z or to x+1.y.z a bump in z would be a bugfix release. [Users] Nested virtualization with Opteron 2nd generation and oVirt 3.1 possible?

Hello, I have 2 physical servers with Opteron 2nd gen cpu. There is CentOS 6.3 installed and some VM already configured on them. Their /proc/cpuinfo contains ... model name : Dual-Core AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 8222 ... kvm_amd kernel module is loaded with its default enabled nested option # systool -m kvm_amd -v Module = "kvm_amd" Attributes: initstate = "live" refcnt = "15" srcversion = "43D8067144E7D8B0D53D46E" Parameters: nested = "1" npt = "1" ... I already configured a fedora 17 VM as a oVirt 3.1 Engine I'm trying to configure another VM as oVirt 3.1 node with ovirt-node-iso-2.5.5-0.1.fc17.iso It seems I'm not able to configure so that ovirt install doesn't complain. Unable to make Single Sign on working on Windows 7 Guest

On the case I'll be able to create an installer, what is the name of the Application need to be there, in order to ovirt detects that Ovirt Guest agent is installed? I have created an installer adding OvirtGuestService files and the Product Name to be shown, a part of the command line post installs.. I have tried with "ovirt-guest-agent" and "Ovirt guest agent" Names for the application installed on Windows 7 guest and even both are presented on ovirt VM Applications tab, on any case LogonVDScommand appears. python floppy in RunOnce mode

Hi, I'm trying to boot a vm with non persistent floppy using python ovirt sdk (the "RunOnce" way in administrator portal), but guest OS can't see floppy drive. The ultimate goal is to deploy floppy with sysprep unattend.xml file for windows 7 pools of vm. Foreman: Add external provider (Failed with error PROVIDER_FAILURE and code 5050)

Hello, did anyone actually get this working in oVirt 3.5 / EL6 - Engine? I am trying this for two days now. Setup: Engine; EL6.5 Foreman; EL6.5 Foreman seems to do it's as I can use it to deploy hosts and also smart proxies are running fine. I have opened a BZ [1]; because this really can not work out of the box with EL6 plain vanilla packages. I wonder if this was ever tested... ? Java 7 used i n EL6 [4] does only support DH keys up to 1024byte. This is known issue in Foreman [2] as longer DH keys are now used by default in Foreman / PuppetCA. A dirty fix confirmed working is adding default DH parameters to the foreman cert; effectively disabling it [3]. So I got SSL working and I get beyond the authentication (entering wrong data gets me auth errors)- however, I am still not able to add the external provider. Pressing 'test' results in (Failed with error PROVIDER_FAILURE and code 5050) Sample engine.log 2014-10-28 23:49:40,860 ERROR [org.ovirt.engine.core.bll.provider.TestProviderConnectivityCommand] (ajp--127.0.0.1-8702-1) [6a3da4e7] Command org.ovirt.engine.core.bll.provider.TestProviderConnectivityCommand throw Vdc Bll exception. With error message VdcBLLException: PROVIDER_FAILURE (Failed with error PROVIDER_FAILURE and code 5050) I can't find any more hints in oVirt; access logs in Foreman are telling me API queries by the engine. Did I miss a crucial step in the foreman setup? How can I debug this issue? I am willing to upgrade openjdk; provided this does not break my engine... Thanks! Multiple NICs on hosted engine?

I have installed the first node of a new oVirt 3.5 setup with a hosted engine VM. I have multiple networks: one public-accessible and one private (with storage, iDRAC/IPMI, etc.). I set the engine VM up on the public LAN, but now realize that it can't access the power control. I tried to add a second NIC to the engine VM through the web interface, but of course that doesn't work (because it isn't really managed there). Guest VM Running 160 RCU Processes

Hi, I have one Ovirt cluster and under this cluster all the guest machines (such as centos,ubuntu,debian etc) almost 160 RCU processes running.... i searched on google about the RCU (It's kernel process "read-copy-upate") http://lwn.net/Articles/518953/ I want to know how i can modify this 160 processes to 10-20 or how i can to disable it....is there any bed impact if i disable it.... [Users] A mobile monitoring application for oVirt

Hello oVirt users, I'm in the process of developing a simple monitoring application for oVirt on the Android platform. This is still under heavy development, but first usable version can be found at [1] Please note that this is still a development preview so it can be a little unstable and the UI design is not yet perfect (well ... design by programmer :-)) but I hope it could be useful. All comments, remarks, feature requests and general feedback are very welcome. You can file any issues directly at [2]. Below follow the details of using and configuring the app. Description: The goal of this project was to create a simple Android app that would enable oVirt admins to configure conditions on Vms, Clusters, or whole datacenter upon which they want to be notified. At the moment you can configure 3 types of "Triggers": - when Vm CPU is over given level - when Vm Memory usage is over given level - when Vm enters given state (Down, Unknown ...) You can also choose if you want just simple standard android notification or also want the device to vibrate. You can also define all these triggers on per-Vm, per-Cluster or "global" level. Configuration: On first run the app will prompt you to enter connection parameters of your running oVirt engine instance. API URL should be in the form of http://host:port/ovirt-engine/api Username is user@domain i.e. admin@internal Password is ... well the above user's password :-) sadly only http (not https) is supported so far for endpoint url. oVirt 3.6 Feature: Cumulative Network Usage Statistics

Hello users and developers, Just put up a feature page for the aforementioned feature; in summary, to report total RX/TX statistics for hosts and VMs in oVirt. This has been requested several times on the users mailing list, and is especially useful for accounting in VDI deployments. name of virtual machine and hostname

Good morning, I would like to ask you an information. After I have installed ovirt, I have created a pool of vm with name like centos-?? (from 1 to 20) and then ovirt generated 20 vm with name centos-1, centos-2, centos-3 etc. etc. The problem is when the vm starts the hostname is not the same of the vm name in ovirt but is the same name of the template. Is it possible to make sure that the name of vm and the hostname is identical? Best regard Nicola Gentile

[RFC] oVirt mobile client

Hi, The focus of our OPW internship program starting in December will be mobile and/or lightweight engine clients -- hopefully integrating the new ovirt.js project. I see that there are some already existing mobile clients for oVirt. I'm trying to grasp what we have and what the needs are. moVirt: https://github.com/matobet/moVirt (mbetak) This appears to be more of a lightweight webadmin. No console access, but I believe it's planned as part of OPW. (?) nomad: http://www.ovirt.org/Project_Proposal_-_Nomad and https://github.com/Vizuri/ovirt-nomad Looks dead -- last commit 3 years ago. Anyone know more about this one? That's all I see on the first few pages of google. When I think of a mobile client for oVirt, I think the most useful part would be the user portal -- simple operations for start, stop, and the ability to view the console of vms. moVirt mentions it wants to support some basic management operations, though. I think it would be difficult to do complex management in a mobile client. (I'm biased towards huge screens, though.) I'd like to see an official subproject started that coordinates our mobile efforts. Is this possible? What would it take to start it? What would people like to see in such an app? Issues with vm start up

Hi All, I am using the ovirt version 3.5 and having some issues with the vm startup with cloud-init using api in run-once mode..... Below is the steps i follow :- 1. Create the VM by API from precreated Template.. 2. Start the VM in run-once mode and push the cloud-init data from API.. 3. Backup and Restore of VMs

As an additional information, we have a ZFS based storage with deduplicatio= n that we use for other backup purposes which does a great job especially b= ecause of the deduplication (we can storage generations of backups without = problems), this storage can be NFS exported and used as backup repository. Are there any backup and restore procedure you guys are using for backup an= d restore that works for you and can you point me into the right direction = ? Status libgfapi support in oVirt

I have been trying to use libgfapi glusterfs support in oVirt but can't get it to work. After talks on IRC it seems I should apply a patch (http://gerrit.ovirt.org/33768) to enable libgf BUT I can't get it to work. Systems used: - hosts Centos7 or Fedora20 (so upto date qemu/libvirt/oVirt(3.5)) - glusterfs-3.6.1 - vdsm-4.16.0-524.gitbc618a4.el7.x86_64 (snapshot master 14-nov) - vdsm-4.16.7-1.gitdb83943.el7.x86_64 (official ovirt-3.5 vdsm, seems newer than master snapshot?? ) Just adding the patch to vdsm-4.16.7-1.gitdb83943.el7.x86_64 doesn't work, vdsm doesn't start anymore due to an error in virt/vm.py. Q1: what is de exact status of libgf and oVirt. Q2: how do I test that patch? Joop

[STORAGE] Adding posix compliant FS

Heya-- I'm using ovirt 3.5 and trying to add a posix compliant FS to a node in my cluster. The storage I'm trying to add is contained within LVM. hosted-engine --deploy fails

ERROR 'no free file handlers in pool' while creating VM from template

Hello, I ran into a nasty problem today when creating a new, cloned VM from a template (one virtual 20 GBdisk) on our two-node oVirt cluster: on the node where I started a VM creation job, load skyrocketed and some VMs stopped responding until and after the job failed. Everything recovered without intervention, but this obviously shouldn't happen. I have attached the relevant vdsm log file. The button to create the VM was pressed around 11:17, the first error in the vdsm log is at 11:23:58. The ISO domain is a gluster volume exposed via NFS, the storage domain for the VM's is also a gluster volume. The underlying filesystem is ZFS. The hypervisor nodes are full CentOS 6 installs. I'm guessing the 'no free file handlers in pool' in the vdsm log file is key here. What can I do to prevent this from happening again? Apart from not creating new VMs of course :) Tiemen

templates and freeipa

Ovirt 3.5 is running well for me and I have freeIPA controlling access to the user portal. I would like to provide templates of various linux setups that all have freeipa for user authentication in the VM for my developers to be able to create a new VM from and then log in using their freeIPA access and sudo control. I'm wanting to group developers by project and use freeIPA to set sudo commands as needed (group A get oracle, group B get postgresql, etc). Wanting to maximize developer ability while minimizing my clean up time :-) They will be able to delete VMs they create. It's possible to do a kickstart deploy with freeIPA registration but a template from that will be a problem as it will have the same keys for all VMs. Is there a post-creation scripting process I can attach to in ovirt or should I look at a default root user and script that personalizes the new VM? -- -- James P. The ISO domain utilizes the same root share as the DATA and EXPORT domains which seem to work fine. The structure looks something like: server:/nfs-share/ovirt-store/iso-store/UUIDblahblah/images/ server:/nfs-share/ovirt-store/export-store/path/path/path server:/nfs-share/ovirt-store/data-store/UUIDblahblah/images/ Each of storage-domain was created through the Engine. (moved around, read/write operations) Copied the ISO I needed directly to it and changed the perms/ownership by hand which seems to have worked as a short term solution. I can see why the --iso-domain argument has issues as it is trying to use the our storage network, which isn't routable from the Engine as it only has the one network interface. Although that does seem like an oversight. Seems like this transfer should pass through the SPM and not try to directly mount the NFS share if the --iso-domain flag is used. Problem wiht ovirt-node

I installed ovirt node with hosted-engine using pre-release ovirt-node 3.5 iso. When i shutdown the ovirt-node from menu everything down ok, ( i register it as node in vm ). When i turn on the server next day, ovirt-node come up with no vm was installed ( i use other server as storage with nfs). Nfs is working fine i see all resource if i do showmount -e nfs.server. But if i try to do hosted-engine --vm-status or any command with hosted-engine it suggest me to do a new deploy, but i have all enviroment configured en my engine. I need to configure two ovirt-node, and then move it to datacenter, but after shutdown vm engine is not seen by ovirt-node.
