Problem deploying ovirt-hosted-engine to iSCSI

Hi, I'm back to testing oVirt again but have come across a problem when trying to deploy the ovirt hosted engine with iSCSI. The deploy asks questions about iSCSI, finds the iSCSI target, asks for the iqn, then goes to start the storage server but stops there, hanging forever. In this state I can see that the iSCSI session has logged in and the drive appears in the system (as sdb) but that's it. It appears as though it's getting stuck when it tries to get the list of luns. Has anyone else come across this issue? Any ideas where I can start with troubleshooting? Cheers, Justin.

3.5.1 not detecting Haswell CPU

I just upgraded from a working 3.5.0 on F20 to 3.5.1. After the upgrade, 3.5.1 started detecting my i7-4790k as a Sandy Bridge, and not the Haswell it properly detected with 3.5.0. Automation and engine-setup

I am attempting to update my Puppet module [1] that manages oVirt and have found my method for executing engine-setup works on a fresh install but fails if run after install, for example to enable reports. Normally I run this: yes 'Yes' | engine-setup --config-append=/var/lib/ovirt-engine/setup/answers/ovirt-engine-setup.conf However if I've already installed ovirt-engine and then install the packages for reports and re-run the above command it gets stuck at this step: [ INFO ] Stage: Setup validation During execution engine service will be stopped (OK, Cancel) [OK]: Since "Yes" is not a valid response my method does not work. Is there a flag I can provide in the answers file that would prevent the above prompt? I am semi familiar with using expect but was hoping to avoid using expect from within a Puppet module. HA of VMs

I've been poking around for a better way to perform HA. With VM's like IPA or even HA web sites behind an HAProxy; how do I ensure that they are never on the same host? I've seen the options for watchdog and I can see where that may help a little, but not without the initial outage to trigger the alert. There are many ways to do this however I see few that scale. I'm sure I'm missing something and I really appreciate any guidance. Thanks all

Initially thinking that my file system /var/log 2Gb was too small now have increased to 4Gb and is refilled, i have increased again to 5 Gb and is refilled again. Why ? I have implemented the backup of the manager with the script backup.sh, this could be the cause of the problem ? Ovirt 3.5.x Power failure recovery

Hi, Long time read-only user here :) Unfortunately I need some info which I can't seem to find in the archives and on Google. In the past 5 months we’ve had two very rare occasions of power failures in my hometown. First one was a ms during spike or drop, just enough to cause a reboot, the other was a 30min failure. Problem After the power failure my ovirt nodes boot into CentOS 6.6 and are running fine. In both cases my ovirt-engine-VM wouldn't "start" due to service Postgresql not starting. I tried some things before reverting back to an older DB snapshot that was on the VM disk, but still not working. Postgresql is not starting due to "Duplicate UUID" My solution Calm down girlfriend and don't sleep Reinstall 1 node, create new ovirt-engine, recreate VM's and copy VM disk data from old store to new store. Add second node Other solutions I can think of 1. Start cluster without reinstall ;) 2. Buy UPS (€150 one time, extra €60 yearly power usage = €450 in 5 years) At this moment I’m 1 click away from buying the UPS, but I prefer a more elegant solution. After the last power failure I did NOT reinstall my second ovirt node and the old engine is also on storage available. Is there someone that wants some data to troubleshoot/analyse? Or is this just one of those things? Buy the UPS and get on with your life? Short HW overview 2x ovirt 3.5.x (i3/32GB ram,1Gb eth VM network, dual x520 NFS eth) 1x NFS (i3/4GB ram, 5TB SAS and 6TB SATA on Dell PERC,1Gb eth mgmt, dual x520 10Gb) 1Gb is used for VM networking, the 10Gb is connected via DAC cables and runs NFS-storage. This works great! Whole cluster runs below 120w and VM disk performance is around 700MB/s :) I bought all the HW with power usage in mind, PicoPSU's and 35w CPU's in all nodes. So adding 30w "extra" just for the UPS feels a bit like killing an elephant with tissues... kind regards Raymond

Hi all, I'm planning to migrate my ovirt el6 hosts to el7. Excepting that el6 will not be supported in next release of ovirt, is there a difference of performance between el7 and el6? I mean, are qemu or libvirt for example at the same level of performance/capabilities in el6 than in el7 (knowing that qemu-kvm 0.12 is still backported on el6) ? I heard that el7.1 will support live merge, if true will el6.7 support it as well or the difference between them is there?

Local and remote storage?

Hello, I've run into an "odd" problem with oVirt 3.5.1. I've two sets of VMs: A) some fairly critical VMs which need HA and have access to shared storage B) some less important systems which can be reconstructed in the event of a disaster My plan was to use the slack disk on my oVirt nodes to host the 'B' systems while still allowing the 'A' systems to run there. This seems to not be allowed[1]. Is there a way I can utilize both the spare disk on my compute nodes and have HA configured for some VMs with shared storage? Exporting a VM's disks

Hi All, Having recently had a need to manually export a VM from our RHEV environment I searched for a way to identify the VM's disks with the files on the storage system. The search led me to http://rhevdup.blogspot.com.au/2013/05/manual-export-of-vm-from-rhev.html but unfortunately, the script in that post only lists the first drive for a VM, making it less than useful for exporting VMs with multiple drives. Inspired by that post I wrote my own version in Perl (I detest Python). The script works on our RHEV 3.4 with a Gluster storage back end. I would greatly appreciate it if some of you could test it on other RHEV/Ovirt versions and on different storage systems. Hello, We have a requirement where when we add storage to our Ovirt cluster, each node in the cluster must use a different iSCSI CHAP username. This unfortunately does not work correctly when adding storage from the web interface for Ovirt as it only allows you to specify a shared username/password combination. We need to be able to use different CHAP authentication credentials when we add storage to Ovirt

self hosted engine add second host - maintenance mode needed?

Hi Got a running self hosted install with VMs running on the host, now adding a second host to get ha for the engine & VMs. Do I need to put the engine into maintenance mode before running hosted-engine --deploy on new host node? Thanks Mike
