Unable to install oVirt on RHEL7.5

Yes, i use same manual to change WebUI SSL. ovirt-ca-file= is a same SSL file which use WebUI. Yes, i restart ovirt-provider-ovn, i restart engine, i restart all what i can restart. oVirt host deploy: disable multipath

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1472356 There are 2 drives in my install that oVirt is claiming as multipath. I have tried blacklisting at /etc/multipath/ but that hasn't worked. Any better solutions? I need these 2 drives to be non-multipathed.

Out-of-sync networks can only be detached

Hi, I have a 3-node oVirt cluster. I have configured 2 logical networks: ovirtmgmt and public. Public logical network is attached in only 2 nodes and failing to attach on the 3rd node with the below error Invalid operation, out-of-sync network 'public' can only be detached. Network Address Change

Hi All: I just has a case, I need to change the oVirt host and engine IP address due to data center decommission I checked in the hosted-engine host there are some files I could change ; in ovirt-hosted-engine/hosted-engine.conf ca_subject="O=simple.com, CN=1.2.3.4" gateway=1.2.3.254 and of course I need to change the ovirtmgmt interface IP too, I think just change the above line could do the tick, but where could I change the other host IP in the cluster ? I think I have to be lost all the host as once changed the hosted-engine host IP as it is in diff. sub net. Does there any command line tools could do that or someone has such experience could share? looking for some ISV backup software which integrates the backup API

Hello, We are about to change our backup provider, and I find it is a great chance to choose a full supported ovirt backup solution. I currently use this python script vm-backup-scheduler (https://github.com/wefixit-AT/oVirtBackup) but it is not the workflow officially suggested by the community (https://www.ovirt.org/develop/release-management/features/storage/backup-re…) I've been looking for a long time an ISV who supports such an API, but the only one I found is this one : Acronis Backup Advanced suggested here https://access.redhat.com/ecosystem/search/#/ecosystem/Red%20Hat%20Enterpri… I ran the trial version, but it doesn't seem to do better than the vm-backup-scheduler script, and it doesn't seem to use the backup API (attach a clone as a disk to an existing vm). Can you suggest me some other ISV solutions, if they ever exist... or share me your backup experience?

USB3 redirection

Hi, I'm trying to assign a USB3 controller to a CentOS 7.4 VM in oVirt 4.1 with USB redirection enabled. I've created the following file in /etc/ovirt-engine/osinfo.conf.d: 01-usb.properties with content os.other.devices.usb.controller.value = nec-xhci and have restarted ovirt-engine. If I disable USB-support in the web interface for the VM, the xhci controller is added to the VM (I can see it in the qemu-kvm commandline), but usb redirection is not available. If I enable USB-support in the UI, no xhci controller is added (only 4 uhci controllers). Is there a way to make the controllers for usb redirection xhci controllers? OVN routing and firewalling in oVirt

Hello, how do we manage routing between different OVN networks in oVirt? And between OVN networks and physical ones? Based on architecture read here: http://openvswitch.org/support/dist-docs/ovn-architecture.7.html I see terms for logical routers and gateway routers respectively but how to apply to oVirt configuration? Do I have to choose between setting up a specialized VM or a physical one: is it applicable/advisable to put on oVirt host itself the gateway functionality? Is there any security policy (like security groups in Openstack) to implement? Thanks, Gianluca

Install hosted-engine - Task Get local VM IP failed

Hi all, I try to install hosted-engine on node : ovirt-node-ng-4.2.3-0.20180518. OVN and change of mgmt network

Hello, I previously had OVN running on engine (as OVN provider with northd and northbound and southbound DBs) and hosts (with OVN controller). After changing mgmt ip of hosts (engine has retained instead the same ip), I executed again on them the command: vdsm-tool ovn-config <ip_of_engine> <nel_local_ip_of_host> Now I think I have to clean up some things, eg: 1) On engine where I get these lines below systemctl status ovn-northd.service -l . . . Sep 29 14:41:42 ovmgr1 ovsdb-server[940]: ovs|00005|reconnect|ERR|tcp: 10.4.167.40:37272: no response to inactivity probe after 5 seconds, disconnecting Oct 03 11:52:00 ovmgr1 ovsdb-server[940]: ovs|00006|reconnect|ERR|tcp: 10.4.167.41:52078: no response to inactivity probe after 5 seconds, disconnecting The two IPs are the old ones of two hosts It seems that a restart of the services has fixed... Hello, I recently read on this list from a redhat member that export domain is either being deprecated or looking at being deprecated To that end, can you share details? Can you share any notes/postings/bz's that document this? I would imagine something like this would be discussed in larger audience This seems like a somewhat significant change to make and I am curious where this is scheduled? Currently, a lot of my backups rely explicitly on an export domain for online snapshots, so I'd like to plan accordingly Thanks!

How to connect to a guest with vGPU ?

So far I try to access the console through SPICE and at some point in the boot process it switches to GPU and I cannot see anything else. Vm suddenly paused with error "vm has paused due to unknown storage error"

Hi all, Since we upgraded our Ovirt nodes to CentOS 7 a vm (not a specific one but never more then one) will sometimes pause suddenly with the error "VM ... has paused due to unknown storage error". It happens now two times in a month. The Ovirt node uses san storage for the vm's running on it. When a specific vm is pausing with an error the other vm's keeps running without problems. The vm runs without problems after unpausing it. Ovirt-engine-ha cannot to see live status of Hosted Engine

Good day for all. I have some issues with Ovirt 4.2.6. But now the main this of it: I have two Centos 7 Nodes with same config and last Ovirt 4.2.6 with Hostedengine with disk on NFS storage. Also some of virtual machines working good. But, when HostedEngine running on one node (srv02.local) everything is fine. After migrating to another node (srv00.local), i see that agent cannot to check livelinness of HostedEngine. After few minutes HostedEngine going to reboot and after some time i see some situation. I allready reinstalled many times srv00 node without success. One time i even has to uninstall ovirt* and vdsm* software. Also here one interesting point, after installing just "yum install http://resources.ovirt.org/pub/yum-repo/ovirt-release42.rpm" on this node i try to install this node from engine web interface with "Deploy" action. But, installation was unsuccesfull, before i didnt install ovirt-hosted-engine-ha on this node. I dont see in documentation that its need bofore installation of new hosts. But this is for information and checking. After installing ovirt-hosted-engine-ha node was installed with HostedEngine support. But the main issue not changed. Thanks in advance for help. Hello Everyone, Reading through the document: "Red Hat Hyperconverged Infrastructure for Virtualization 1.5 Automating RHHI for Virtualization deployment" Regarding storage scaling, i see the following statements: *2.7. SCALINGRed Hat Hyperconverged Infrastructure for Virtualization is supported for one node, and for clusters of 3, 6, 9, and 12 nodes.The initial deployment is either 1 or 3 nodes.There are two supported methods of horizontally scaling Red Hat Hyperconverged Infrastructure for Virtualization:* *1 Add new hyperconverged nodes to the cluster, in sets of three, up to the maximum of 12 hyperconverged nodes.* *2 Create new Gluster volumes using new disks on existing hyperconverged nodes.You cannot create a volume that spans more than 3 nodes, or expand an existing volume so that it spans across more than 3 nodes at a time* *2.9.1. Prerequisites for geo-replicationBe aware of the following requirements and limitations when configuring geo-replication:One geo-replicated volume onlyRed Hat Hyperconverged Infrastructure for Virtualization (RHHI for Virtualization) supports only one geo-replicated volume. I am also referring to RedHat product documentation, because I treat oVirt as production-ready as RHHI is. *1*. Is there any reason for not going to distributed-replicated volumes ( ie: spread one volume across 6,9, or 12 nodes ) ? - ie: is recomanded that in a 9 nodes scenario I should have 3 separated volumes, but how should I deal with the folowing question *2.* If only one geo-replicated volume can be configured, how should I deal with 2nd and 3rd volume replication for disaster recovery *3.* If the limit of hosts per datacenter is 250, then (in theory ) the recomended way in reaching this treshold would be to create 20 separated oVirt logical clusters with 12 nodes per each ( and datacenter managed from one ha-engine ) ? *4.* In present, I have the folowing one 9 nodes cluster , all hosts contributing with 2 disks each to a single replica 3 distributed replicated volume. They where added to the volume in the following order: node1 - disk1 node2 - disk1 ...... node9 - disk1 node1 - disk2 node2 - disk2 ...... node9 - disk2 At the moment, the volume is arbitrated, but I intend to go for full distributed replica 3. disk locked after export as OVA

Hello, everyone. I tried to export a vm as OVA. I got a error in webui: VDSM ovirt1.ntbaobei.com command HSMGetAllTasksStatusesVDS failed: Volume Group not big enough: (u'Not enough free extents for extending LV d9f2378f-92f0-4bc1-96a8-20a0f2c575cb/c515a3f9-0590-4ebe-81c5-9d0993f1fec9 (free=848, needed=872)',) seems no enough space in the storage domain. Use public-signed SSL certs?

I installed an SSL cert from a public CA (Let's Encrypt) on my engine, following this: https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_virtualization/4.2/ht… That gets the regular web UI working, but I can't upload an ISO. I assume that I need to do something with the imageio-proxy service on the engine, but not sure what... I tried replacing imageio-proxy.cer and imageio-proxy.key.nopass, but that didn't work. Hi, after a blackout one host of my ovirt not working properly. I tried to Reinstall it but ends with the following error "Failed to install Host ov1. Failed to execute stage 'Closing up': Failed to start service 'vdsmd'." I tried to start manually but it not start . Now, I would like to reinstall from iso ovirt node. After I put the host is in maintenance must I remove host from the cluster (Hosts -> host1 -> Remove) or I can reinstall without remove it? If I remore it from the cluster the network configurations I lose them or not? My ovirt version is oVirt Engine Version: 4.1.9.1-1.el7.centos.

Spice console very poor performance for Windows 10 vm

Hello Everyone, Maybe I am something wrong, but spice console seem to be very laggy and slow for windows 10 vms. I have tried both qxl and qxl-dod drivers, but no luck so far... As a notice, the Win 2012R2 vm console is running fine, the problem seems to only affect Windows 10. Any ideas, what should I do to sort this out ? Thank you very much ! It is quite standard to have that on every blog out there, and for a reason - you get feedback and conversation around the topic, without going somewhere else (users list, irc, etc...) Permission Problem for admin portal

Hello, I'm using the lastest ovirt release. I would like to add a cluster permission for a user. This user should only see this cluster and not other information or other cluster I've create a new user in internal or external When the ClusterAdmin role is added in the permission tab of a cluster, the user can access the entire infrastructure through the user portal or administrator portal. It can modify other VMs, ... I checked the other cluster and the user does not appear in the permissions When I add the UserRole role to the cluster and remove the ClusterAdmin role, it sees only the VMs in the cluster in the user portal When the user creating a VM, he can see all the cluster in the drop-down window for cluster selection It's possible to add only a cluster permission for users ? VMs import over slow 1gig interface instead of fast 10gig interface?

Ok, so I want to try and more thoroughly explain my situation. I want to better understand what is happening, and if there is a way to force import over the faster connection. Today I have two Ovirt environments, one on 4.1 and one on 4.2, on the new environment we have migrated to new VLANs for Management and Data. The export domain is a NFS domain hosted on a Trunas device that has an ip address of X.X.12.100. Our host has multiple Ethernet connections, one Bonded 20Gigabit interface. That is where we have the ovirtmgmt profile. And a secondary 1 Gigabit interface that we call our VLAN12 profile or server VLAN. *The problem.... *When importing a VM from the export domain, the import is happening over the 1Gigabit interface on the VLAN12 profile. Instead of the 20gigabit Bonded interface on VLAN 100. *My understanding.... *So I probably just misunderstand how this works, but here is what I thought should happen, in the *Setup Host Network* screen for this host I have the ovirtmgmt on VLAN100 with the bonded 20Gigabit interface performing the following. "*Management, Display, Migration, VM and Default Route*." Then I have the secondary 1 Gigabit interface just doing "*VM*" on VLAN12. What I thought should happen is that anything Migration related "*/Includes importing from export domain?/*" should happen on the Migration interface, which in my case is the ovritmgmt interface on VLAN100. I have also confirmed that I can ping from the VLAN100 ovirtmgmt interface to the storage on VLAN12. So there is connectivity from that interface to the storage. What I am trying to figure out is there a way to force it to do imports over the 20Gigabit interface that resides on VLAN100 instead of the slower VLAN12 interface, that is just there for general VM connectivity. Hi Community, Currently, there is no single document describing supported (which means: working ) upgrade scenarios. I think the project has matured enough, to have such an supported upgradepath, which should be considered in the development of new releases. As far as I know, currently it is supported to upgrade from x.y.z to x.y.z+1 and from x.y.z to x.y+1.z but not from x.y-1.z to x.y+1.z directly. maybe this should be put together in a wiki page at least. also it would be cool to know how long a single "release" would be supported. In this context I would define a release as a version bump from x.y.z to x.y+1.z or to x+1.y.z a bump in z would be a bugfix release. Ovirt Nested in VMWare (Working approach)

I worked through this previously and posted in IRC yesterday about working around running ovirt nested under VMWare. Specifically it's a problem with the --machine type at 3 major parts of the vm creation for the hosted-engine. 1) You have to fix the virt-install to use --machine pc-i440fx-rhel7.2.0 2) You have to fix the guestfish spinup of the partially configured vm to use --machine pc-i440fx-rhel7.2.0, where they edit the nic config among other things 3) You have to tell vdsm on the node to use --machine pc-i440fx-rhel7.2.0 I don't know the underlying reason why a --machine type > pc-i440fx-rhel7.2.0 breaks the system but it ends up resulting in a bios freeze. Again, Hope this helps someone. Suggested only to use for a test/dev system.

[Users] importing from kvm into ovirt

Standalone is using local storage, and my ovirt cluster is using = iscsi. Can i please have some advice on whats the best way to get this sys= tem into ovirt? Right now i see it as copying the .img file to somewhere=85 but i have no i= dea where to start. I found this directory on one of my ovirt nodes: /rhev/data-center/mnt/blockSD/fe633237-14b2-4f8b-aedd-bbf753bcafaf/master/v= ms But inside is just directories that appear to have uuid-type of names, and = i can't tell what belongs to which vm. oVirt nVidia vGPU driver questions

I'm on oVirt 4.2.6. 1) If I have a Tesla P4 (Pascal) GPU (non-GRID), do I use nVidia vGPU driver for RHEL KVM 6.2 or the Linux KVM vGPU 6.2 driver? 2) If I have a Grid K1 or K2, I assume the correct driver would be GRID 4.7? 3) Must the vGPU driver be installed on the host & in the vm? 4) Must the vGPU driver be installed first before I can run "yum -y install vdsm-hook-vfio-mdev”

4.3 Master is looking good!! A few questions: - In Step #2: Fqdns: for a 3 host cluster, are we to add the 2nd & 3rd hosts? - In Step #5: Bricks: What effect does the RAID setting have? Enable Dedupe & Compression is new? Configure LV Cache: what do we enter for SSD? What happens if my disks are already all SSD, do I still benefit from using this?

Ovirt does not support AMD EPYC CPUs?

Hi Fabrice, The "hugepages" custom property value in oVirt should be set to *size of the pages in KiB* (i.e. 1GiB = 1048576, 2MiB = 2048). In addition, it is recommended to set the huge page size of the VM to the largest size supported by the host. In the configuration you sent, the huge page size of the VM is set to 64 KiB and since the VM's allocated memory size is at least 32,768 MiB then it requires at least (32768 * 1024/64=) 524,288 pages. Since you only have 120 pages declared in the host then it failed with an error "...there are not enough free huge pages to run the VM". So to solve the problem, please change the VM's huge page size to be the same as the host's huge page supported size which is 1GiB and therefore hugepages value should be 1048576 KiB instead of 64: <custom_property> <name>hugepages</name> <value>*1048576*</value> </custom_property> Please note that since total VM's memory size is no more than 64 GB then only 64 pages will be needed by the VM and it's < 120 pages supported by the host and therefore OK.
