Error when deploy Ovirt4.4 Hosted Engine

How to list all snapshots?

Hello everyone! First, I would like to thank everyone involved in this wonderful project. I leave here my sincere thanks! Does anyone know if it is possible to list all snapshots automatically? It can be by ansible, python, shell... any way that helps to list them all without having to enter Domain by Domain. Thank you all!

snapshot solution: Existing snapshots that were taken after this one will be erased.

Hi Team, when I want to commit the older snapshots I'm getting warning stating " Existing snapshots that were taken after this one will be erased.". is there any way we can retain the latest snapshots as is in the chain? I knew cloning and template export options are there to secure that latest snapshot data but these are will consume additional space in storage and take time.

Restart oVirt-Engine

How ,without reboot of hosting system, do I restart the oVirt engine? # I tried below but do not seem to effect the virtual machine [root@thor iso]# systemctl restart ov ovirt-ha-agent.service ovirt-imageio.service ovn-controller.service ovs-delete-transient-ports.service ovirt-ha-broker.service ovirt-vmconsole-host-sshd.service ovsdb-server.service ovs-vswitchd.service [root@thor iso]# # You cannot restart the VM " HostedEngine " as it responses: Error while executing action: HostedEngine: - Cannot restart VM. Host deploy failure: Configure OVN for oVirt

Good day, I am running into a problem during host deploy via the oVirt engine GUI since upgrading to ovirt-engine-4.5.5-1.el8. The "Configure OVN for oVirt" task seem to fail when trying to run the vdsm-tool ovn-config command. Host deploy used to work fine when the engine was on version 4.5.4. Unable to access ovirt Admin Screen from ovirt Host

I've reinstalled ovirt 4.4 on my server remotely via cockpit terminal. I'm able to access the ovirt admin screen remotely from the laptop that I used for the install. However, using the same URL I'm unable to gain access to the admin screen. Following the instruction in the documentation I've modified the file: /etc/ovirt-engine/engine.conf.d/99-custom-sso-setup.conf, to reflect the DNS name and I enter in the IP address. But I'm still unable to access the screen from the server console. What else needs to change in order to gain access from the server console? Thanks

SPM and Task error ...

Hi all, my ovirt cluster has got 3 Hypervisors runnig Centos 7.5.1804 vdsm is 4.20.39.1-1.el7, ovirt engine is 4.2.4.5-1.el7, the storage systems are HP MSA P2000 and 2050 (fibre channel). I need to stop one of the hypervisors for maintenance but this system is the storage pool manager. For this reason I decided to manually activate SPM in one of the other nodes but this operation is not successful. oVirt CLI tool for automation tasks

We recently migrated from VMware to oVirt. I am looking for any CLI tool well suited for my automation tasks like VM create, clone, migrate 100s of Virtual machines in oVirt cluster. with VMware I was using govc (vSphere CLI built on top of govmomi). Another option I read is powercli, quite unsure if it works with oVirt. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

Latest 4.5.5 centos node install username password not working.

I been trying to install 4.5.5 testing and used the node installer iso. I cant login what is the username and password I have tried what others have done in the forums with no luck admin@ovirt . root admin . Also can the engine be installed from the node via the cockpit still? How can I get logged in to do this? I have used 4.3 and didnt have any of these problems. It was really simple to do. Any suggestions? grazie

oVirt networks

Dear all, Ineed your help to understand how to configure the network of a new oVirt cluster. Mynew system will have a 4.3 engine thatruns in a virtual machine, andsome Dell R7525 AMD EPYC hypervisors, eachholding two 4-port PCI network cards. These servers will have node-ovirt image again in version 4.3. As for the network, there are two HPE Aruba 2540G, non-stackable, with 24 1Gbs ports and 2 10Gbs uplinks to the star center. This is a simplified scheme: My goal is to make the most of the server's 8 ethernet interfaces to have both reliability and maximum possible throughput. This cluster will have two virtual networks, one forovirt management and one for the traffic of individual virtual machines. With that said here's what my idea is. I would like to have two links aggregated by 4Gbs, one for ovrtmgt and the other for vmnet. With the ovirt web interface I can createan active-passive "Mode 1" bond, but this won'tallow me to go beyond 1Gbs. Alternatively I could create a "Mode 4" bond 802.3ad but unfortunately the switches are not stacked and therefore not even this solution applies. This is an example with active passive configuration: Can you tell me if ovirt can generate//nested bonds? Or do you have other solutions ? Thanks a lot ! Hi. I have created a new storage domain (data domain, storage type nfs) to use it to upload iso images. I have so uploaded a new iso and then attach the iso to a new vm. But when I try to boot the vm I obtain this error: booting from dvd/cd... boot failed: could not read from cdrom (code 0005) no bootable device The iso file has been uploaded with success in the data storage domain and so the vm lets my attach the iso to the vm in the boot settings. Can you help me? Thank you

Unable to add logical interface

List: I have a single host that was added to my cluster and operational. My management engine is running in a separate, dedicated pc. When making some network changes and testing them, I made the mistake of removing the virtual interface using nmtui on the host. Now when I try to add the logical network to the host again, I get an error message: "Operation cancelled Error while executing action: Cannot setup Networks. Operation can be performed only when Host status is Maintenance, Up, Non-Operational." My host is configured so that: Eth0 is ovirtmgmt Eth1 is storage The system is hyperconverged. I am getting the correct IP/subnets on each NIC. What do I need to do to add the logical network back to the host?

Recommendation for iSCSI configuration

I could see actively only NIC is utilizing the iSCSI traffic(without ISCSI Bond). I would like to utilize both NIC traffic Active-Active mode what is the topology to follow? [iSCSI in LACP is not recommended for iscsi traffic which read from blog].Correct me if I'm wrong. When actively used NIC connected switch reboot,the iscsi traffic which over to another nic takes almost 30 seconds.Can I reduce the failover of NIC timing from 30 seconds to 3 seconds something like that? I don't see the lapsed timeout behaviour in CentOS 8 but rocky9 behaviors differently. Any suggestions or recommendation?

Why all environment fall if one storage domain going down?

Hello all. Can any one tell me why all environment fall if we lost one domain storage? In my company we have many NFS storages and if just one going down, been rebooted, all host fail. What we realized, I do not know if it is true, is if one host can´t communicate with the storage it will be rebooted or if the use of memory is too high it will be rebooted too. Correct. I'm migrating between datacenter that have a different hosted engine. Also using same version (source is oVirt 4.5 on el8, destionation is oVirt 4.5 on el9 and OLVM 4.5 on OL8). Why i need to add export domain ? The migration approach that i took is detaching storage domain from source cluster and then attaching it to the new cluster, not doing OVA Export from source and importing it in new cluster. oVirt Nightly Grafana Login Issues

Hi There, I am in the process of deploying a new oVirt environment which has taken a few days and a switch to nightly. I have successfully got the Hosted Engine up & running, however when I try to login to Grafana I get 'cannot remove last organization admin' when using the ovirt engine auth option. I’ve followed the setup guide but the storage domain isn’t showing up in the “Storage” section of the admin portal... Problem with Glusterfs Distributed-Replicated volume almost full but only less than 50% used by files.

Hi, I have a weird problem with my couple Glusterfs-oVirt: I had two data domain for my VMs on oVirt. The main one (data) is a Distributed-Replicate with 2 x 3 = 6 bricks of ~ 1,4 Tb on 3 servers (2 bricks by server). It was an extend of a previous 1 x 3 = 3 Replicated volume on the same servers. I had one new disk (and one new brick) on each of these 3 servers. My concern is the reported use of this volume (almost 100%). a df -h give me : df -h . Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on ovirt1.pmmg.priv:/data 3.4T 3.3T 84G 98% /rhev/data-center/mnt/glusterSD/ovirt1.pmmg.priv:_data but a du of the same partition give me : du -hs /rhev/data-center/mnt/glusterSD/ovirt1.pmmg.priv:_data 1.4T /rhev/data-center/mnt/glusterSD/ovirt1.pmmg.priv:_data and there no hidden folder I could miss in this mount point. The weird point (the second one) is when I delete a VMs and is disks (main disk and snapshot) I doesn't get back some space on these volume. Does anyone have an idea of these problem ? Yes, I have only the gold crown on the host where the hosted engine is running. On the second host, there is no crown; that field is empty. When I installed it, I deployed the hosted engine on the host where I have the gold crown. After this step, I created the cluster and added the second host. Do I need to perform any additional steps every time I add a new host to the cluster to be able to migrate the hosted engine VM?

Hosted engine deployment fails on Rocky Linux 9

Trying to do a fresh install of ovirt 4.5 on a Rocky Linux 9 host. While running the hosted-engine --deploy --4, I input all of the information. Why is it that the hosted engine is trying to reach out to the CentOS8 repos and is there a way for me to pause the deployment to modify the repo files on the vm? fence_rhevm with oVirt >4.5

Hello Folks Is the "fence_rhevm" package compatible with oVirt >4.5? We're converting our legacy RHV cluster to a new install of oVirt latest with NFS backed storage. Everything has been working smoothly with the exception of the RHV-M fencing device on this newly provisioned oVirt 4.5.7 cluster with RHEL 9.4 hosts -- I haven't been able to get authentication working between the fencing device and the manager appliance. The same configuration is working on both the legacy RHV 4.4 cluster (RHV nodes) and a test oVirt 4.5.6 cluster (RHEL 8.9 hosts). The primary difference that comes to mind between my test and new cluster is that the newest one was installed with Keycloak SSO default configs while it was disabled on the older test environment. I suspect it has something to do with dropping basic auth? Assuming this is the case, can Keycloak be removed without having to rebuild the cluster? Are there any significant drawbacks to disabling it? I've found docs for converting from AAA to Keycloak, but not the reverse. I see on the mailing list that the `ovirt-aaa-jdbc-tool` is deprecated and that Keycloak is strongly recommended moving forward -- is it possible to integrate an internal Keycloak implementation with the existing "fence_rhevm" package? The errors I'm seeing are: 401 Unauthorized This server could not verify that you are authorized to access the document requested. Either you supplied the wrong credentials (e.g., bad password), or your browser doesn't understand how to supply the credentials required. I've tried every variation of the <domain> value suggested -- including "admin@internal", "admin@ovirt@internal", "@admin@ovirt@internal-authz" Thanks in advance, Justin

Network issue - self-hosted engine on a single host

Hi, I'm confused about installing ovirt as a self-hosted engine on a single host with local storage. I have one server which I have connected to 2 switches (which are in "Cisco stack"). I have connected the server with 2 UTP cables in master switch and 2 UTP cables in slave. I have installed on server Rocky Linux 9.4. And now i have 4 network interfaces (4 ip addresses) which i can ping from my computer. After that I installed ovirt engine 4.5.6-1.el9 with the next commands: > dnf install centos-release-ovirt45 > dnf install ovirt-engine > engine-setup Next step, I want to add a new host through my engine (Compute -> Hosts -> New). I started installing a new host. I choose my hostname to be my one and only server. After installation, I can no longer connect to my server: https://vhost01.testing.local/ovirt-engine/ because the ip address behind the dns name can no longer be pinged. Out of my 4 IP addresses, I can now ping only one from my computer. And then, of course, I change the DNS record and set it to that one-onlyworking IP address. So I think after adding the host my network is messed up. It even makes sense to me since everything is done on one host, and it seems to me that if I had separated the engine, it would not have these problems. HostedEngine migration fail

Hi, I have two hosts in one cluster, where the hosts are exactly the same physical servers. The migration of virtual machines works fine, but I can't migrate the hosted engine VM. When I try to migrate it to the second host/server, the "Destination host" field in the migration pop-up window shows "No available host to migrate VMs to." However, if I try to migrate any other running VMs, the field becomes active and I can choose the second host/server. [Self-hosted engine] Change port for web portal

Hi everyone, I've installed oVirt (specifically Oracle Linux Virtualization Manager v.4.5) on my server using the Self-Hosted Deployment method. However, my server is in an environment where using well-known ports is restricted. Therefore, I need to reconfigure the ports for the web portal, which currently uses ports 80 and 443, so that I can access the web portal through the browser. I tried the following two methods: === Method 1 === During installation, I prepared an answer file (/root/answers.conf) with the following configurations: OVESETUP_CONFIG/publicHttpPort=int:2416 OVESETUP_CONFIG/publicHttpsPort=int:5281 OVESETUP_CONFIG/httpPort=int:2416 OVESETUP_CONFIG/httpsPort=int:5281 Then, I executed 'hosted-engine --deploy --4 --config-append=/root/answers.conf'. However, this did not change the ports. === Method 2 === After installation, I modified the firewalld service files (ovirt-http.xml, ovirt-https.xml), httpd configuration files (httpd.conf, conf.d/ssl.conf), and engine configuration files (engine.conf.d/10-setup-portocols.conf, 11-setup-sso.conf). This worked, but the 'hosted-engine --vm-status' command contains the following issue: Engine status : {"vm": "up", "health": "bad", "detail": "Up", "reason": "failed liveliness check"} It seems to be caused by the health check to the web portal. (https://{engine_fqdn}/ovirt-engine/services/health -> the health-check process does not modify the port in this URL) ====== So, I will solve it with aspects related to the two questions below. 1) Is there a way to change the engine health-check URL during or after installation? 2) Is there a way to configure ports globally related to oVirt? Start VM with option -machine smm=off

Hello all. I'm trying to workaround the problem reported here: https://gitlab.com/qemu-project/qemu/-/issues/1198 but I did not find out how to start up the VM with the option -machine smm=off like sead on the lsit above. I guess that it is possible to run the command using the qemu command but I think that I will lose the management of it. Failed to configure management network on the host.

RHEL9 (KVM server) cannot be added from oVirt Engine built on centos9 stream. The oVirt management NW and the RHEL9 (KVM server) management NW are in the same segment and are in an environment where they can resolve each other's names. I'm new to oVirt, so I'd appreciate it if you could explain it in an easy-to-understand manner.

This means that: At STAGE_MISC, _misc calls _setupAuth, which creates this file, and then it calls _setupAdminUser which tries to use it. Latter fails, and engine-setup rolls back the MAIN_TRANSACTION, including removing the file. I'd start debugging this issue by: 1. Patching _setupAuth to wait (e.g. using dialog.queryBoolean, search the source for examples) after it creates the file, so that I can investigate it 2. Patching _setupAdminUser to wait after it runs the tool, so that I can try to investigate the failure - e.g. run it myself under strace, if the existing logging is not enough. VM live migration fails after update to qemu-kvm-9.0.0-4.el9.x86_64

Hello After updating a hypervisor with qemu-kvm-9.0.0-4.el9.x86_64 live migration stopped working with errors related to the cpu topology. When I downgraded to qemu-kvm-9.0.0-3.el9.x86_64 migration worked again. Is this a known bug? Has anyone else encountered this?

vm stays locked after failed export

Hi, Running ovirt for many years, but this baffles me. An export was taking too long, seems to hang. Due to the heat a switch failedt, so export storage is umounted, at this time. Now my VM has a little lock, and can't be restarted. (shutdown worked) Checked all DB entries and vdsm. update vm_static set template_status = 0 where template_status = 1; select * from vm_static where template_status = 1; 0 update vm_dynamic set status = 0 where status = 15; select * from vm_dynamic where status = 15; 0 update images set imagestatus = 1 where imagestatus = 2; select * from images where imagestatus = 2; 0 update snapshots set status = 'OK' where status like 'LOCKED'; select * from snapshots where status like 'LOCKED'; 0 UPDATE images SET imagestatus = 1 WHERE imagestatus = 4; select * from images where imagestatus = 4; 0 restarted the hosted-engine I dont know what to check next. CentOS9 Stream -- Only way forward?

I've been running 4.5.4-1 on RHEL8 for a while now; been running fine for my needs. I was getting around the unholy dependency issue caused by the centos-release package conflicting with the redhat-release package by upgrading everything else -- not it. It's been necessary to do this since RHEL versions were higher than any CentOS 8 Stream versions. This time round since CentOS has been archived, I made sure to install anything I hadn't and then manually purged centos-release from the rpm database. This allowed RHEL to update to 8.10, including the release package this time. Not expecting an issue since there won't be any future patches coming from that repo. If I decide to stick with oVirt and install daily snapshots, I assume what I will have to do is setup a new CentOS Steam 9 server, create a backup of the old server, and then restore on the new server. Like what I did when I was forced to migrate from CentOS 8 to RHEL8 (with CentOS 8 Stream packages). Is this right? I haven't decided if I want to do this. CentOS Stream 9 is supported until mid 2027; RHEL 8.10 is supported until mid 2029. Barring any new features or major incompatibility, I really don't see a pressing reason to do this. In fact, with no one stepping in to take over the project, there is a better chance of being supported by sticking with RHEL 8.10 (2+ years).

Running oVirt 4.4.5 VM cannot migrate between hosts. vdsm.log contains the following error: libvirt.libvirtError: operation failed: Failed to connect to remote libvirt URI qemu+tls://ovhost01.local/system: authentication failed: Failed to verify peer's certificate Certificates on hosts was renewed some time ago. How this issue can be fixed ? Thank you.

Certificate verification error for qemu while migrating

oVirt 4.5.6-1.el9 standalone engine - older VM's on centos 6 or rhel 6 hangs on live migration with ovirt node 5.14.0-388.el9.x86_64

Hi All, In our new oVirt 4.5.6-1.el9 cluster we find older vm's on el6 (centos/rhel) keeps hanging after live migrations. we find this typically with el6 vm's, our other el'7 and windows vm's do not face this issue. All these VM's were imported from an oVirt 4.3.10.4-1.el7 cluster by importing the storage domain into the new cluster. Initially we installed all the latest ovirt-node-ng-installer-latest-el9 on all our nodes(8 of them) and we found this live migration hang issue, later we installed ovirt-node-ng-installer-4.5.2-2022081013.el9 on the nodes and tested - we found the issue resolved and we could migrate the el6 vm's without any issues at all, later, after doing an upgrade on the nodes we find the issue has come back again. The nodes where there are no live migration issues have kernel 5.14.0-142.el9.x86_64, the nodes with the latest version 5.14.0-388.el9.x86_64 seems to have this issue. Has anybody faced this issue? - any patches needed/available? Thanks
