It looks like it is possible now to create live snapshots; that is: on a running system. So far I've tried the popular script by Daniel=20 Berteaud 'virt-backup.pl' which works very well for our standard KVM=20 systems but I found that I had to disable libvirtd's SASL authentication=20 which caused oVirt to lose connectivity to the node and oVirt to fence=20 the node. I thought I'd try a manual 'virsh save' but that causes oVirt to believe=20 that the guest has gone down which causes the guest to be automatically=20 migrated (I am running 2 nodes). What experience have you had with backing up guests? Hi, I created a VM in my engine. And I found that every time I run the VM after shutdown, the VM uuid was changed to a different not while the VM itself was not changed including the VM name. Why doesn't engine keep the UUID for a VM and use the UUID every time the VM starts? Hi, is there a working way to add a host with the current beta code? I tried the latest node iso and also a plain Fedora 17 with the latest vdsm packages but in both cases the registration seems to succeed but the installation seems to fail. Regards, Dennis

[Users] Managing ovirt-node with Puppet - Bad idea?

Currently I've been running all my KVM systems as standard libvirt managed hypervisors with virt-manager for creating VMs. All the setup of these systems was done via Puppet, including bridges and pool definitions. Now that I've setup my first ovirt-node I'm wondering if Puppet is appropriate on the ovirt-node. The first thing that concerned me was libvirtd was not set to start on boot after installing in the ovirt web interface, is this because the vdsmd daemon starts/stops libvirtd? Also is is it safe to manage things like vdsm.conf via Puppet or will ovirt-engine ever touch that file outside of the bootstrap process? Right now all my nodes will be bare CentOS 6.2 systems with a basic KVM / libvirt hypervisor and then vdsm. What I'm curious of is if anyone has suggestions or insight into whether or not something like Puppet should be managing ovirt-nodes. Ideally I'd like to use a bare hypervisor like RHEV-H or the oVirt-node ISO but all I have access to is the later and I'm very weary of having anywhere Fedora in my data center aside from my desktop. So far Puppet has proven useful in the process of setting up the ovirt-node prior to adding it to oVirt interface, but I'm worried something I'm enforcing will be changed by ovirt and then changed back by Puppet and break my setup. [Users] How to configure sharedFS ?

Hi, From vdsm code i can see support for storage domain of type SHARED_FS But when trying to configure a new storage domain, i don't see SHARED_FS as a available domtype filed in the dropdown. I want to use shared FS to connect to try and connect to gluster mount point on my node, but unable to as I don't see that option. From http://www.ovirt.org/wiki/Features/PosixFSConnection - I understand that its the same as sharedFS, so what is PosixFSConnection then, is it just a new interface that provides a wrapper for what is sharedFS now ? The status of this says Done, but I don't see the UI part of this, am I missing something. Also pls let me know if usign sharedFS to make the node use gluster mount is correct or not ? thanx, deepak
