ovirt_experimental_master Fails: PostgreSQL is not Accessible During Engine Setup

Hello All. FYI. All daemon configuration now goes through /etc/nfs.conf. See nfs.conf(5) for details. The command line interfaces in the systemd services files have been removed. Which means all your current configures will break, because the variables in /etc/sysconfig/nfs are no longer used. Again, I think is a move in the right direction and I know you might find this surprising 8-) but I really don't want to break all the current server configuration. So I'm trying t o figure out how to do this with least amount of impact. Here is what I see as the options 1) Upgrade rawhide w/out a backward compatible patch (since it is so early in the release cycle) Upgrade f25 with an backwards compatible patch 2) Upgrade rawhide and f25 with the backward compatible patch... but we have to ween ourselves of the command line interface at some point... 3) Do nothing and push everything into f27, which is the least favorite option. For quite some time now we can access Wildfly's web console on https://127.0.0.1:8706 It's the UI equivalent of jboss.cli but much more convenient. Example of tasks you can perform there: - Change logging settings, live - Tweak the managed thread pool (will send a different thread about it) - Shutdown/reload the service - Tweak db connection details - Get info/stats on the running setup EE components and more One of the main advantages over the old jmx method is that it uses a plugin to authenticate the engine user so your credentials should be admin@internal or any superuser for that matter. The default is to expose it to localhost and that could be change in services/ovirt-engine/ovirt-engine.xml.in.For firewalled setups, you can ssh tunnel your machine to overcome that as always. R

Issues Running Engine Setup Related to Database Autovacuum Settings

Hi team, I'm having trouble running engine-setup on a fresh database. When I first ran setup I received a message prompting me to update the autovacuum_vacuum_scale_factor, which I did. I then received another prompting me to update the autovacuum_analyze_scale_factor, which I also did. The next prompted me to update the autovacuum_max_workers to a value of at least 6. I have tried changing the value to both 6 and 7 multiple times, but it doesn't acknowledge that the change has been made and won't let me proceed with setup. Could someone tell me if I'm doing something wrong or if this is an issue with the new feature? Thanks! -Phillip Bailey

please use a single patch for a single task

Looking at: https://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/69438/3 but there are several others in gerrit for different projects taking this one as example just because it make me loose the evening on it. "adding cli for 4.1 experimental repos" as stated in the header of the patch has totally nothing to do with the body of the patch: "- also dropped fc23 since its eol" which just dropped all the fc23 artifacts from the publisher causing: - cockpit-ovirt for fc23 failing to build due to missing dependencies - publisher 4.0 nightly failing due to missing cockpit-ovirt for fc23 Now I unblocked the publisher for 4.0 with: https://gerrit.ovirt.org/70402 but if infra decided to drop fc23 support since fc23 gone EOL, please do it completely. Upgraded to 4.0.6 and now WebSocket Proxy is not working

All, I was recently running version 4.0.4 (I believe that was the old version), and had no issues with the HTML5 Spice console working via WebSocket Proxy. Now, however, after the upgrade, and subsequent reboot of the host, I cannot get any video to display on the html5 spice console session. I am getting the green lock icon on the browser bar on the console session, and even the messages output shows the following: Connected to wss://MYURL.us:6100/eyJzYblahblahblah So I don't think its a certificate issue? I have even stopped firewalld to make sure its not some weird firewall issue, but that didn't resolve it. What can I check to fix this? [Node.js] moving from npm to Yarn & how it impacts oVirt JS applications

Hello guys, as you probably know, we're using Node.js (ovirt-engine-nodejs) to build some of our applications, including ovirt-engine-dashboard, ovirt-web-ui, cockpit-ovirt, and some others. This is just to inform you that in ovirt-engine-nodejs-modules (RPM that bundles all of our JS dependencies), we're moving from npm to Yarn. The related patch is here: https://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/69934/ nodejs-modules 1.0.0 will bump all dependencies to their latest version, plus add version locking. To prepare for consuming nodejs-modules 1.0.0, please: - make sure to test your applications with bumped dependencies - once the patch is merged, you can update your BuildRequires to 1.0.0 - once we have an RPM for Yarn, you can start using it in your project Regards, Vojtech

[VDSM] Flaky (networking?) test

Hi all, I have seen this failure several times in the last week, typically the error is gone after rebuilding. It is not clear what is the test - the test name does not apear in the error, this happens when adding a (useless) docstring to a test method. Looking at the traceback, this seems to be a networking test. Mass rebase 3 days before RC

Hi, this Friday we have 1400 jobs in queue in jenkins while we never had more than 100 jobs for the past 2 months. I initially thought it was ani nfra issue but I double checked, there are 130 slaves working, the jobs are all triggered by patches. I hope that the eventual mass rebase is only for 4.2/master, I haven't checked yet. If the mass rebase is related to 4.1, I understand that having the release candidate coming NEXT Monday many developers wants to ensure their patch are included but really, you shouldn't wait the last second to push them. If we want to build 4.1 RC on Monday please avoid to mush mass rebase over the weekend until 4.1 is out or we won't have enough resources to build it. Sorry for the rant. IntegerEntityModelTextBox*, NumberEntityModelTextBox*, Validate

I find the TextBox Widget of ovirt-engine,such as IntegerEntityModelTextBoxEditor. They are weak in validation. When i input a string or something else can't parse Integer. In view, the widget will make as invalid, but i press the button of "OK", it always can pass. Even, when i edit the entity's attributes, such as Random Generator's Period or Bytes per period of VM, use IntegerEntityModelTextBox* widget, it will save the old data. I can't be sure this is a fault or is normal?

Introduction of cluster level 4.2 on master

Hi, we have just merged a series of patches to engine which introduces cluster level 4.2: 1. Adds cluster level 4.2 [1] 2. Sets version 4.2 to default data center and cluster for new installations [1] 2. Bumps database upgrade scripts to 4.2 [2] - from now on every database script merged to master has to start with 04_02 prefix Please rebase all your existing patches to master on top of those changes and rename db scripts accordingly. Also please be aware that if you want to add a host to a 4.2 cluster, you need quite recent VDSM version which includes patch [3] merged yesterday. Please let me know if you have any issues. PatternFly upgrade - how to handle JS dependencies

Hello, we'd like to upgrade the version of PatternFly (plus associated libraries, namely Bootstrap and jQuery) used in oVirt UI. Today, PatternFly stuff (PF + associated libraries) comes from `patternfly1` package hosted at Copr repo: https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/patternfly/patternfly1/ Today, we require `patternfly1` as both Engine RPM build dependency and the Engine devel. env. dependency. To keep things simple, I'd like to propose the following approach: - create oVirt specific package, e.g. `ovirt-patternfly`, hosted at Copr, containing PatternFly + associated libraries (Bootstrap, jQuery) which are intended *specifically* for use by oVirt UI (hence the ovirt prefix) - discontinue maintenance of `patternfly1` package at Copr - keep the existing approach: require `ovirt-patternfly` as both the Engine build dependency and the Engine devel. env. dependency An alternative approach would be to introduce Node.js as Engine devel. env. dependency (use `npm install` to pull PF stuff), while using the existing ovirt-engine-{nodejs,nodejs-modules} packages for Engine RPM build. However, this alternative has some downsides, namely complication of devel. env. just to fetch the PF stuff. I don't like the idea of complicating the existing devel. env. just for the sake of fetching some 3rd party libs. I'm wondering what others think about this. Regards, Vojtech

Toward self-configuring CI, or how can we stop writing YAML

Hi all, The premise of the CI standard is simple: You (the developers) place simple script in the 'automation' directory, and we (the infa team) take care of making Jenkins run it when it should. But we haven't been able to fully deliver on this premise yet. Getting a project to work with the CI standard also takes writing some YAML in the 'Jenkins' repo. Even worse, this YAML needs to be maintained over time as new project branches get created, new platforms get targeted, etc. The core reason behind having to write YAML, is that there are two technical details that we need to know in order to run the CI jobs, but are not specified in a way that allows detecting them automatically. Those details are: 1. The platforms a certain project needs to be built and tested on. 2. The branches of the project that CI needs to look at, and how do they map to an oVirt releases. We need to specify a way to specify the details above in a way that will allow the CI system to automatically detect them. Here are my ideas on how to do that: We already have a way to specify platforms in the 'automation' directory: scripts and files in the 'automation' directory can be suffixed with a platform name, this make them apply only to that platform. I suggest we make the platform suffix explicitly required (with a compatibility fall-back, see below), so that to have 'check_patch' run on Fedora 25 for x86_64, one will have to have a 'check_patch.sh.fc25.x86_64' script (or symlink) in the automation directory. It would be cumbersome to go and create symlinks in all the projects at this stage, therefore, I also suggest that we will make the architecture default to 'x86_64' when unspecified, and the OS default to 'el7'. That way, 'check_patch.sh.fc25' will be equivalent to 'check_patch.sh.fc25.x86_64', and 'check_patch.sh' will be equivalent to 'check_patch.sh.el7.x86_64'. When it comes to branches, I think the way to go is to standardize branch names. That standard should probably be something like 'ovirt-4.0', 'ovirt-4.1', etc. Alternatively we could use something like 'ovirt(-.*)?-.4.0' or (<repo_name>-4.0) to accommodate existing conventions like the engine`s. FYI, After many requests from multiple developers and testers, the oVirt CI added a new simple job that lets you run the full fledged end-to-end oVirt system tests with a click of a button. You can read all the details and how-to in the new oVirt blog [1]. We wanted to allow running oVirt system tests on EVERY open patch from ANY oVirt project, without relaying on complex building code inside the job. Luckily we just added the 'build-on-demand' so together with it you can build any rpms you'd like and use them to run the manual job. So the 2 steps you'll need to do are: 1. Write 'ci please build' inside a comment on an open oVirt patch ( make sure the feature is enabled for that project first, its already available for ovirt-engine,vdsm,dashboard and vdsm-jsonrpc-java) 2. Run the manual OST job for the version you'd like to test with the URLs you got from #1 You'll get and email once the job is done and you can browse the results and check for logs from engine and the hosts. I agree with Piotr&Edward: - having engine uses libvirt xml would impose coupling between engine and libvirt (a cross-layers dependency), which currently does not exist. - moreover, engine would be coupled to all versions of libvirt api that it manages - currently each VDSM version knows how to interact with libvirt it uses (de-centralized approach) - currently we do not have a mechanism that ensures libvirt version based on cluster level (IMHO). Ensuring that would imply requesting a very specific version of libvirt by VDSM. - cluster version means a minimum level of compatibility, but what if cluster of version (x.y) contains a host of a newer version (x+1.y+2). What would be able to tell about libvirt it uses? [VDSM] Notification in vdsm client

All, Some time ago during discussion we noticed that we are missing ability to send/receive events from vdsm client [1]. Initially we thought that having [2] would be enough to support notification between engine and vdsm. Now we know we need it for [1]. I would like to collect potential use cases from mom, hosted engine and others so we could design the api to enable them. As part of the work I would like to see whether there is a need to have global event topic or have name convention and use more granular queues. Do we have any use cases to subscribe to additional topic(s) during life time of a client or subscription during instantiation is good enough. engine: the link to host-deploy log is wrong

Hi, I'm not sure if I'm right or wrong so before filing a bug let me know if I don't miss anything - I think the audit log on fail deploy that says the path for the deploy log is wrong. few times I already faced that it points to somewhere under /tmp/ovirt-host-deploy... but the log is actually under /var/log/ovirt-engine/host-deploy/... -- *Yaniv Bronhaim.*
