Help needed enabling copr builds for ovirt-ansible-collection
by Sandro Bonazzola
Hi,
I was looking at ovirt-ansible-collection build scripts and I need help
preparing a Makefile as
https://github.com/oVirt/ovirt-host/blob/master/.copr/Makefile for this
package.
It will be executed on a Fedora 34 host and then the resulting SRPM is
going to be rebuilt with mock for el8 / el9 as needed.
This package seems to do weird stuff with pip to get ansible / ansible-core
in the build root and we need to streamline the build to avoid this
workaround.
@Martin Necas <mnecas(a)redhat.com> , @Martin Perina <mperina(a)redhat.com> can
you help?

Vdsm: ovirt-4.4.9 branch created
by Milan Zamazal
Hi,
ovirt-4.4.9 branch was created for contingent further 4.4.9 Vdsm
backports. Patches for 4.4.9 must be backported to both ovirt-4.4.z and
ovirt-4.4.9, in this order.
ovirt-4.4.z branch is now open for 4.4.10 patches.

Java Xmx limit building ovirt-engine package
by Marcos Sungaila
Hello,
I'm facing a weird behave when rebuilding the ovirt-engine rpm package.
When I run a rpmbuild -ba ovirt-engine.spec, it fails with the following error:
[ERROR] Out of memory; to increase the amount of memory
Also, it indicates the option -Xmx8192M in the pom.xml file.
The weird part is that building the application in the command line works fine but not in the rpmbuild, neither using a mock build system.
I checked this page https://github.com/oVirt/ovirt-engine from GitHub and tested those variables with no success.
Can anyone point me where I can find how to use those variables when building the package or have experience building this package/application to explain it?
Thank you in advance for any help.

Marcos

[ANN] oVirt 4.4.9 is now generally available
by Sandro Bonazzola
oVirt 4.4.9 is now generally available
The oVirt project is excited to announce the general availability of oVirt
4.4.9 , as of October 20th, 2021.
This release unleashes an altogether more powerful and flexible open source
virtualization solution that encompasses hundreds of individual changes and
a wide range of enhancements across the engine, storage, network, user
interface, and analytics, as compared to oVirt 4.3.
Important! Known issues
Please note qemu-kvm, shipped outside oVirt, is affected by BZ#1999141
<https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1999141> - migration fails
with: "qemu-kvm: get_pci_config_device: Bad config data: i=0x9a read: 3
device: 2 cmask: ff wmask: 0 w1cmask:0"
It has been detected to wait for a fix before building oVirt Node update as
it includes qemu-kvm.
If you haven’t updated to qemu-kvm 6 yet please don’t update it.
Upgraded systems will NOT be able to migrate VMs anywhere else, not even
once the issue is fixed.
Important notes before you install / upgrade
Please note that oVirt 4.4 only supports clusters and data centers with
compatibility version 4.2 and above. If clusters or data centers are
running with an older compatibility version, you need to upgrade them to at
least 4.2 (4.3 is recommended).
Please note that in RHEL 8 / CentOS 8 several devices that worked on EL7
are no longer supported.
For example, the megaraid_sas driver is removed. If you use Enterprise
Linux 8 hosts you can try to provide the necessary drivers for the
deprecated hardware using the DUD method (See the users’ mailing list
thread on this at
https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/thread/NDSVUZSESOXE...
)

Sure! If you're hitting issues on deploying on any RHEL 8 / CentOS Stream 8
derivatives feel free to open a bz and, if you can, send patches!

Introduction
by Maithreyi Gopal
Hello,
I am Maithreyi Gopal, from Nuremberg, Germany. I am looking to start
contributing to open source projects and would like to introduce myself to
you.
I have a lot of Software Development Experience to offer. I have a few
years of experience working with infrastructure teams on the Cisco ASR9k
routers. I have a Masters in Networking and Design
I currently work on developing drivers and communication protocols for
image transfer at Siemens Healthcare.
I want to be able to use my background to start contributing to open source
and learn new technologies. I come with no prior open source contributions.
If somebody is willing to point me in the right direction and probably help
me with an easy first contribution, I would really appreciate it. I am most
proficient in C and python.

Cluster version - where is it defined?
by Marcos Sungaila
Hello,
I'm trying to understand where the Cluster Compatibility version is defined and which commands are supported in each version.
I'm inspecting the ovirt-engine, libvirt, and vdsm source code, but I imagine there is any paper or webpage where it is defined. At least a list with features or commands, something like this.
I searched this list and found pretty old messages, but no clue on this topic.
Regards,
Marcos
