4.3 rc2: info about shutdown of last host and networking page

Hello, env with single host HCI deployment from node ng iso After powering off VMs, put into global maintenance, shutdown hosted engine, I then run shutdown on host. This I think would simulate also a total shutdown scenario when you have the final step of shutdown of the final host. This is what I see in console about failure in several unmounts, both /var and /var/log and also gluster related filesystems Could there be any dependency problem? Also I have not understood the networking page of host in Cockpit: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1isX4F8qPcFmTyhmCVnZadhp6NY0R9Sy7/view?us... in my scenario I was downloading a 1Gb image for the CentOS Atomic host from public glance repo. Questions: - how to explain the receiving box graph? What are the different color lines for? - In "receiving" column inside the "interfaces" sections I see all "0" for gluster one (eth1) and empty (no value) for ovirtmgmt (perhaps because it is unmanaged from host point of view?) Also, it seems to me that the temporary bridge for hosted engine deployment on 192.168.124.0 (virbr0) is still there even after finishing the deployment, even if with "no carrier"... is this expected? Better perhaps to undefine the network after deployment? Gianluca

Hosted Engine Storage migration

Hello listmembers! I'm in search of some steps to use to migrate my Hosted-Engine from one NFS storage domain to another different NFS storage domain. One of the possible ways to accomplish this task may already be a feature with oVirt 4.1, I'm using 4.2 https://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2017-January/078739.html (New feature in 4.1?) Will someone elaborate the steps to use this new feature and how I could use it to accomplish this task? the bug link in the email linked above has a comment (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1409112#c12) - does this mean I need to redeploy the hosted-engine? I'm not able to follow as I'm new to oVirt and still learning the ins and outs and design if I'm on the wrong path here please correct me. Thank you, -Joel

Error creating a storage domain (On Cisco UCS Only)

Hi Guys, I am trying to install a new cluster... I currently have a 9 node and two 6 node oVirt Clusters... (these were installed on 4.1 and upgraded to 4.2) So i want to build a new cluster, which is working fine on this HP notebook i use for testing (using single node gluster deployment) But when i try install this on my production servers which are Cisco UCS servers i keep getting this error: [ ERROR ] Error: Fault reason is "Operation Failed". Fault detail is "[Error creating a storage domain]". HTTP response code is 400. [ ERROR ] fatal: [localhost]: FAILED! => {"changed": false, "msg": "Fault reason is \"Operation Failed\". Fault detail is \"[Error creating a storage domain]\". Suggestions on adding 1000 or more networks to an engine/hosts

So we have a use case where our engines will will be hosting development sandbox clusters. We need to have upwards of 1000 networks on some of these. I understand there is no theoretical limit to the number of networks does any body have a good reliable way of instantiating all of these networks. We have been using ansible for POCs and doing 100 Networks have not had a problem getting them on there however when upping the number to many more it begins to take longer and longer between each one and eventually timed iout and only got to 1567 Example Task we are using for this: tasks: - name: Add More Networks ovirt_network: auth: "{{ ovirt_auth }}" data_center: "{{ pcloud_name }}" name: "{{ pcloud_name }}-{{ item }}" state: present label: uplink vlan_tag: "{{ item }}" clusters: - name: "{{ ovirt_cluster }}" assigned: yes required: no display: no migration: no gluster: no with_sequence: start=1551 end=2500 What are some better ways of bulk additions of networks? Would the API provide a better solution so as to sorta bulk cache them then initiate the save?

Unable to make Single Sign on working on Windows 7 Guest

On the case I'll be able to create an installer, what is the name of the Application need to be there, in order to ovirt detects that Ovirt Guest agent is installed? I have created an installer adding OvirtGuestService files and the Product Name to be shown, a part of the command line post installs.. I have tried with "ovirt-guest-agent" and "Ovirt guest agent" Names for the application installed on Windows 7 guest and even both are presented on ovirt VM Applications tab, on any case LogonVDScommand appears. VM poor iops

Hi Everyone, I am encountering the following issue on a single instance hyper-converged 4.2 setup. The following fio test was done: fio --randrepeat=1 --ioengine=libaio --direct=1 --gtod_reduce=1 --name=test --filename=test --bs=4k --iodepth=64 --size=4G --readwrite=randwrite The results are very poor doing the test inside of a vm with a prealocated disk on the ssd store: ~2k IOPS Same test done on the oVirt node directly on the mounted ssd_lvm: ~30k IOPS Same test done, this time on the gluster mount path: ~20K IOPS What could be the issue that the vms have this slow hdd performance ( 2k on ssd !! )? Using the web-ui VM portal through a proxy failing

Dear oVirt Gurus, Using the oVirt user VM portal seems to not work through the squid proxy setup (configured as per the guide). The page loads and login works fine through the proxy, but the asynchronous requests just hang. I've attached a screenshot, but you can see the "api" endpoint just hanging in a web inspector: "https://proxyfqdn/ovirt-engine/api/" [cid:CA42E493-3AD9-45F8-B4C3-C914F059390C@well.ox.ac.uk] This works fine when not going through the proxy. Is there a way to force noVNC HTML as the console mode through the web-ui, or at least have it as an option if not default? The console seems not to work when logged in with a base 'user role'. I've tried vars.yaml with and without the ovirt metrics stuff commented out. The errors seem to revolve around downloading the centos qcow2c image. With image_path: "{{ lookup('env', 'HOME') }}/Downloads/{{ template_name }}.qcow2" defined, I get the following error: fatal: [localhost]: FAILED! => {"msg": "The task includes an option with an undefined variable. Issues adding iscsi storage domain

Hello everyone, Trying to setup an iscsi target as a storage domain, and it seems not to be possible. Discovered the hosts, the targets are displayed. Selected one target, clicked the "Login" arrow, spinner runs a bit , and the arrow gets grayed out. But no LUNs are displayed, to select from. From this step, I can't go further, if I hit "OK" nothing happends. Just as a thought....ssh into the ovirt node used as initiator, and lsblk command shows the block device as present. So i have to cancel the "New Domain" windows without being able to add the domain, but that iscsi block device still remains present on the hosts. Using 4.2.8 Any thoughts ? Thank you very much ! need network design advice for iSCSI

I have an existing 4.2 setup with 2 hosts, both with a quad-gbit NIC and a QNAP TS-569 Pro NAS with twin gbit NIC and five 7k2 drives. At present, the I have 5 VLANs, each with their own subnet as: 1. my "main" net (VLAN 1, 172.16.7.0/24) 2. ovirtmgmt (VLAN 100, 192.168.100.0/24) 3. four storage nets (VLANs 101-104, 192.168.101.0/24 - 192.168.104.0/24) On the NAS, I enslaved both NICs into a 802.3ad LAG and then bound an IP address for each of the four storage nets giving me: * bond0.101@bond0: 192.168.101.101 * bond0.102@bond0: 192.168.102.102 * bond0.103@bond0: 192.168.103.103 * bond0.104@bond0: 192.168.104.104 The hosts are similar, but with all four NICs enslaved into a 802.3ad LAG: Host 1: * bond0.101@bond0: 192.168.101.203 * bond0.102@bond0: 192.168.102.203 * bond0.103@bond0: 192.168.103.203 * bond0.104@bond0: 192.168.104.203 Host 2: * bond0.101@bond0: 192.168.101.204 * bond0.102@bond0: 192.168.102.204 * bond0.103@bond0: 192.168.103.204 * bond0.104@bond0: 192.168.104.204 I believe my performance could be better though. While running bonnie++ on a VM, the NAS reports top disk throughput around 70MB/s and the network (both NICs) topping out around 90MB/s. I suspect I'm being hurt by the load balancing across the NICs. I've played with various load balancing options for the LAGs (src-dst-ip and src-dst-mac) but with little difference in effect. Watching the resource monitor on the NAS, I can see that one NIC almost exclusive does transmits while the other is almost exclusively receives. Ovirt cluster unstable; gluster to blame (again)

hi all: Once again my production ovirt cluster is collapsing in on itself. My servers are intermittently unavailable or degrading, customers are noticing and calling in. This seems to be yet another gluster failure that I haven't been able to pin down. I posted about this a while ago, but didn't get anywhere (no replies that I found). The problem started out as a glusterfsd process consuming large amounts of ram (up to the point where ram and swap were exhausted and the kernel OOM killer killed off the glusterfsd process). For reasons not clear to me at this time, that resulted in any VMs running on that host and that gluster volume to be paused with I/O error (the glusterfs process is usually unharmed; why it didn't continue I/O with other servers is confusing to me). I have 3 servers and a total of 4 gluster volumes (engine, iso, data, and data-hdd). The first 3 are replica 2+arb; the 4th (data-hdd) is replica 3. The first 3 are backed by an LVM partition (some thin provisioned) on an SSD; the 4th is on a seagate hybrid disk (hdd + some internal flash for acceleration). data-hdd is the only thing on the disk. Servers are Dell R610 with the PERC/6i raid card, with the disks individually passed through to the OS (no raid enabled). The above RAM usage issue came from the data-hdd volume. Yesterday, I cought one of the glusterfsd high ram usage before the OOM-Killer had to run. I was able to migrate the VMs off the machine and for good measure, reboot the entire machine (after taking this opportunity to run the software updates that ovirt said were pending). Upon booting back up, the necessary volume healing began. However, this time, the healing caused all three servers to go to very, very high load averages (I saw just under 200 on one server; typically they've been 40-70) with top reporting IO Wait at 7-20%. Network for this volume is a dedicated gig network. According to bwm-ng, initially the network bandwidth would hit 50MB/s (yes, bytes), but tailed off to mostly in the kB/s for a while. All machines' load averages were still 40+ and gluster volume heal data-hdd info reported 5 items needing healing. Server's were intermittently experiencing IO issues, even on the 3 gluster volumes that appeared largely unaffected. Even the OS activities on the hosts itself (logging in, running commands) would often be very delayed. The ovirt engine was seemingly randomly throwing engine down / engine up / engine failed notifications. Responsiveness on ANY VM was horrific most of the time, with random VMs being inaccessible. I let the gluster heal run overnight. By morning, there were still 5 items needing healing, all three servers were still experiencing high load, and servers were still largely unstable. I've noticed that all of my ovirt outages (and I've had a lot, way more than is acceptable for a production cluster) have come from gluster. I still have 3 VMs who's hard disk images have become corrupted by my last gluster crash that I haven't had time to repair / rebuild yet (I believe this crash was caused by the OOM issue previously mentioned, but I didn't know it at the time). Is gluster really ready for production yet? It seems so unstable to me.... I'm looking at replacing gluster with a dedicated NFS server likely FreeNAS. Any suggestions? What is the "right" way to do production storage on this (3 node cluster)? Can I get this gluster volume stable enough to get my VMs to run reliably again until I can deploy another storage solution? --Jim

oVirt can't communicate with vSphere

Trying to get my ovirt cluster connected to my vSphere cluster to import my guests. When trying to connect, I get: "VDSM ovirt1 command GetVmsNamesFromExternalProviderVDS failed: internal error: curl_easy_perform() returned an error: Couldn't connect to server (7) : Failed connect to 10.0.0.55:443; Connection timed out" ovirt1 node (192.168.1.195) is at location A while vSphere (10.0.0.55) is at location B. I added a static route on ovirt1 for 10.0.0.0/8 via 192.168.1.13, which has a VPN connection back to 10.0.0.0/8. ICMP from ovirt1 gets through just fine, but any other traffic never leaves ovirt1 (ie: 443 traffic never arrives at 1.13). I'm assuming there's some firewall rule somewhere, blocking anything other than outbound ICMP, but I have been unable to find it. Any suggestions?

Mounting ISO in subfolder

Hi, I noticed that if I create a directory in root of ISO domain and put an image in it, you can see it in admin portal image list (listed as "foo/bar.iso"), but mounting that iso in a VM ("change CD") fails "Error while executing action Change CD: Drive image file could not be found" I can easily reproduce this behaviour in ovirt 4.2.8 and rhv 4.2.7. Storage Domain Ovirt 4.3 RC EPYC

The issue Im having is that I creates a raid 5 array of 5 120GB SSDs using mdadm and mounted it at /VM. Changing DNS servers

I am trying to change the DNS servers on the hosts on a 4.1 cluster. It appears that oVirt has "learned" them somewhere. They are in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ovirtmgmt (and of course /etc/resolv.conf), but that file gets rewritten on a reboot (so if I change it they just change back). I can't find anything in the web UI to set/change DNS, but obviously they're stored somewhere. I see /var/lib/vdsm/persistence/netconf.<number>/nets/ovirtmgmt has the config; is it safe to directly edit that file? -- Chris Adams <cma(a)cmadams.net>

host NonResponsive after trying to update network MTUs

I have a problem host which also is the one I deployed a hyperconverged oVirt node-ng cluster from with the cockpit's hyperconverged installation wizard. When I realized after deploying that I hadn't set the MTUs correctly for the engine-mgmt, associated vlan and eno.2 device and also for my infiniband interface ib0, I went in and tried to set them to new values 9000 and 65520 it got into some kind of hung state. The engine task window shows a task in "executing" and a never ending spinning widget "Handing non responsive Host track00..." I can tried updating the hosts /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts by hand. I've tried every combination of the engines set host in maintenance mode , "sync networks" "refresh host capabilities" activating and rebooting, but I'm still stuck with an unresponsive host. I had another host that also failed but it allowed me to put it into maintenance mode and then remove it from the cluster and "add new" it back and it was happy. This one won't let me remove it because its serving the gluster volume mount point, even though I did give the mount options for the 2nd and 3rd backup volume servers. I'd appreciate any help restoring it to proper working order. I'm attaching the gzip'd engine log.

Changing CPU type in oVirt Cluster 4.2

Hi! I made two node oVirt cluster with self hosted engine. It's running top of oVirt Node 4.2. Hardware is built on AMD Epyc processors. I just noticed that "Clusters"-view warns that I have AMD Opteron G3 as CPU type and it will not supported in the future. Didn't check this during installation so it probably came automatically. But question is how can I change this? I get warning 'Error while executing action: Cannot change Cluster CPU to higher CPU type when there are active Hosts with lower CPU type.'. I saw old thread from 2016 where it was suggested that you change value straight to db. Put that seems bit dangerous. Is there any other way to solve this problem? Deploying single instance - error

VDO volume - storage domain size

Hello Everyone, I'm I trying to benefit of vdo capabilities, but it seems that I don;t have too much luck with this. I have both created a vdo based gluster volume usign both following methods: - at hyperconverged wizard cluster setup by enabling compression per device - after installation, by creating a new gluster volume and enabling compression In both cases, I end up with a real device size gluster volume/storage domain, although the vdo's appear in node's cockpit UI as being 10 times then physical device. ie: 3 nodes, each having 1 x 900GB ssd device, turns into 9t device vdo device per host, but the storage domain (gluster replica 3 ) ends up as being 900GB . Roles and Permissions and Inheritance

Is there a way to prevent Roles Assigned to Groups on Objects to only apply to where it is set? Basically looking for a way to do what we had done in VMWare which involved using the do not propagate permission setting. be able Seems to me that right now there is no way to set this so if i give access to something at the top level of a DC those accesses wlll overide if i then explcitly set another role and permission on an object underneath Lets take as a concrete example the ovirtmgmt network. I do not want users in the engine to be able to place VMs on this (but i want the Superusers to be able to still) How can i accomplish this with the way roles and permissions work with Ovirt? thanks! The first in Replica 3 and the second distribuited... It's possible? During installation of ovirt node in the automatic partitioning should I select both hard disk? and is failing .. of course. I get access to 3 HP DL380 G7 with a lot of RAM and a lot of HDDs an 10 GBE NICs. Which VLANs I have to create? The HDDs have not to be in a RAID, they should be single instances for GlusterFS, so that GlusterFS Handles the "Bricks (=Single HHDs?)"? Or use a SAN shared Device, which is also there for simplyfienig the (first) setup What to do with the downloaded oVirt-ISO Image? In vSphere I install ESXi on the nodes, Connect the NICs to the right VLANs. Install VCSA as VM, adding the nodes and so on.. I there an good Instruction out there which tanslates VMWare terms and concepts into oVirts terms so that I can follow the step-by-step instuction? Or ist the setup done by an (magic) Ansible script?

Host Only Network

What is the proper way to provide networks without an egress of the host? In VMware i would take a portgroup and just not associate it with a vnic. In ovirt that doesnt seem possible as the network doesnt seem to function unless i move to a physical nic under the "Setup Host Networks" options. The Goal here is to provide a network for VMs to use on the single host only no traffic would need to leave the host but would need to have VLan IDs and segmentation through them on the host

Single Node Deployment - Self-Hosted-Engine

I have a question regarding installing a single node and then running the self-hosted engine on it. I would like to keep this as simple as possible and am running into an issue with where to tell the installer to place the engine. It asks me to choose a shared storage technology(gfs,nfs, iscsi) and i dont want to rely on anything outside of this single box to provide storage. I would like to add another volume (LVM) as a local storage domain to be used for this as well as all other VMs to be run on this all in one box. Is there some secret sauce to getting this installer to choose a local location rather than a shared one?

Planned infra outage - Saturday February 2

Hi everyone, There's a maintenance window planned for this Saturday, February 2 2019 to upgrade network equipment in the PHX datacenter. The change will be implemented during afternoon hours and several oVirt infra services may be unreachable for short periods of time, specifically: * package repositories * Jenkins CI * glance image repo If you have problems accessing project resources during this period or see CI failures please re-try in a couple of hours. Clearing asynchronous task Unknown

Hi, We're running oVirt 4.1.9 (I know there's a new version, we can't upgrade until [1] is implemented). The thing is that since some days we're having an event that floods our event list: Clearing asynchronous task Unknown that started at Tue Jan 22 14:33:17 WET 2019 The event shows up every minute. We tried restarting the ovirt-engine, but after some time it starts flooding again. No pending tasks in the task list. How can I check what is happening and how to solve it? Thanks.
