Community Newsflash: Local oVirt events

As a part of the community activities for 2016, I'm excited to share
with you that we'll be boosting local oVirt activities in a city near you!

What is a "local oVirt event"?
===============================
Local events include (but are not limited to) meetups, workshops, or
hackathons, focused on bringing oVirt users and contributors together to
share stories, celebrate milestones, learn something new, or collaborate
on oVirt projects.
We're also hoping to collaborate with other open-source user and
developer groups, much like our upcoming oVirt/Foreman meetup in London[1].

Where will these events happen?
===============================
Anywhere you are! oVirt is a global community and we're happy to support
our regional users and contributors all around the world.
Suggestions for cities where you'd like to see the oVirt community get
together and grow are welcome, but we need your help to make it happen!

How can we make it happen?
===============================
At the core of any local technology event is the local community. Sadly,
I am not yet omnipresent, so I probably won't be able to personally
organize or attend all of these wonderful future events.
If you would like to:
* Help to coordinate a meetup, workshop, or hackathon in your city
* Give a workshop or a talk about an oVirt-related topic at a local user
or developer group (cross-project integration sessions are especially
welcome!)
* Lead a sprint or hackfest on an oVirt project or task
* <your crazy and awesome idea here!>
Subscribe to events(a)ovirt.org[1] and introduce yourself. This list will
be used to brainstorm, coordinate, and discuss ideas for oVirt-related
events.
NOTE: Official event announcements will be made to
announce(a)ovirt.org[2], so if you just want to be notified of upcoming
events, you can subscribe to that list instead.

Jenkins - introducing F23 jobs, dropping F21 jobs

Hi,
Fedora 23 has been released and Fedora 21 is going EOL in 1 month.
It's time to switch Jenkins jobs to the new F23 release.
If you're still using F21 for developing oVirt you might consider to
upgrade now.
I'll start introducing F23 jobs today for yamlized jenkins jobs and
will drop F21 jobs in 2 weeks, starting from November 19th.

Update on oVirt Mirroring Status

Hello All.
Following previous announcement, please note that we still face a problem
with getting updates to our mirrors. This is firewalling problem and we are
working with IT on resolving it.
I have temporarily updated mirror list to include only resources.ovirt.org
there. It will be changed back as soon as the mirroring is restored.
Please note that if you are not using the mirrorlist and include URLs
directly and you are interested in latest snapshoots, than you may need to
use http://resources.ovirt.org/pub/ovirt-@VERSION@/rpm/@DIST@/ directly.
Will reply on this message once I get an ETA. Please contact infra(a)ovirt.org
in case you have any questions.

oVirt 3.5 and 4.0 on the same devel machine

Hi!
I've recently upgraded to Fedora 22 and openjdk-1.8, as latest master
requires it for building.
But today I needed to run 3.5 and it refused to run on 1.8. I patched
share/ovirt-engine/bin/java-home and after that it started and hanged up on
'Listening for transport dt_socket at address: 8787'.
Is it possible somehow to run 3.5 on 1.8 or to install 1.7 and 1.8
simultaneously on Fedora 22? I'd like to avoid deployment of VM with old
Fedora and separate development environment in it to run 3.5...

WildFly versions issues

Hi,
WildFly 8 is currently required for oVirt master and 3.6, ONLY following
versions should be used (as it's declared in ovirt-engine.spec.in):
ovirt-engine-wildfly-8.2.1-1.el7.x86_64.rpm
ovirt-engine-wildfly-overlay-8.0.4-1.el7.noarch.rpm
Please assure that you have installed those versions on your development
machines.
Please be aware that there are also newer WildFly 10 packages on
ovirt-master-snapshot-static repositories:
ovirt-engine-wildfly-10.0.0-0.3.el7.x86_64.rpm
ovirt-engine-wildfly-overlay-10.0.0-1.el7.noarch.rpm
These packages should be used only to test patches that migrates
WildFly to version 10 for oVirt 4 and SHOULD NOT BE USED OTHERWISE.
So if you accidentally installed those packages, please downgrade
to WildFly 8.
