We have discussed the following matters. , I had very bad sound quality, so please follow up on this message with things that I have missed. 3.5 features ============ - https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-EPEL-2014-1683/mom-0.4.1-1.e… is deemed unstable (but is required by vdsm) - Last 3.5 feature has been merged in today, and the 3.5 clusterLevel is now reported. - Branching is slated to 2014-06-26 but since we already have a way-too-long merge queue on the master branch, I may branch a bit earlier (to re-open the flood gates). 3.5 bugs ======== - We have a quite old bug in pthreading, causing callers of wait() to be woken up needlessly. A pending patch by Nir should be reviewed by Saggi and yours truly. - lastClientIface is the only current hinderence known to me to moving to jsonrpc. Help us review Piotr's patches. 3.6 changes =========== - New getHostLeaseStatus verb should be approved by infra - Francesco posted a new threadpool implementation. It's implemented with statistics threads in mind, but should be used by storage/tasks, too. As such infra and storage folks should review it. - Yoav suggests in http://gerrit.ovirt.org/28869 to change our ages-old log format. I like double-colon as delimiter, but I may be old fasioned. It's a tiny oneliner, but everybody is going to be affected by it, so please review it. In particular, if anybody is using an automated tool to parse the logs - come forward, as we may break things up for you. - Domain monitor changes by Nir should be reviewed and approved by Federico. Thanks, I tried that and now the "!" is gone and from control panel restarted that server and it rebooted but the reboot happened only in Ovirt control panel and actual server hasn't rebooted nor got shutdown its up time still hasn't changed. Annotating internal commands

Update on QEMU Snapshot Package in CentOS

All: I spoke with KB at CentOS about maintaining the qemu package for the Virt SIG. He has expressed concerns that if oVirt curates the qemu package in order to have the snapshotting flag turned on, then there might arise a situation where each project within the SIG would be getting their own versions of qemu. To help mitigate against such an occurrence, KB suggested that oVirt take ownership of not the RHEL distro-specific version of qemu, but a more upstream version instead. Upon discussion with Douglas Landsgraf and Itamar, it seemed to make more sense to keep downloading from CentOS repo and rebuilding it with flag enabled and either sharing that with the SIG or inside our own oVirt repository. Basically, KB's issue that if oVirt does wish to curate this package on behalf of the SIG, that we as a project would be willing to manage all requests from the rest of the SIG participants (such as the example he raised, which was his personal wish that the vdi and Microsoft vpc formats be turned on as well, so he can build Azure images more easily). If we were willing to take on such a responsibility for the SIG, then this would mitigate multiple versions of qemu appearing. >From my side, I believe this is a reasonable expectation, given that we are going to get what we need within CentOS and still can be a responsible community player within the SIG. I put the question to the developers: is this something we want to undertake, or should we simply maintain our version of qemu within an oVirt-specific repository? HA not working 3.4.2

Hi i was testing HA of ovirt,(i am from Xenserver background and trying to use KVM solution in our environment) Have 2 hosts with NFS storage and i tested migration between these two hosts. On Host2 while VM was running on it, i unplugged Power cable and it took long minutes to update that VM is down,okkk now long wait...... .. ..... ....... VM state changed to *unkown *and not booted on second Node ie Host1 its been half an hour and still the VM is not restarted What can be the issue?What should i do it make the VM in real HA so that it will be restarted on the active node. *How HA is enabled* what i did was while creating vm> Advanced option>High Availability>Highly Available I am sure this can be a configuration error,Can some one please help me with enabling HA. Update: artifactory problem is resolved (incident report)

VDSM faqemu default memory change

Hello I'm writing in order to propose a change to faqemu hook as indicated in [1], modifying the hook's default behavior: There are currently hardcoded x86_64 and PPC memory limits (20480 and 262144), this change would remove these implicit constraints and keep the memory unchanged. A new variable in configuration is introduced, fake_kvm_memory, which allows you to limit the memory for both these platforms to a value (or using unchanged memory by setting it to 0, which is default). This means that running faqemu without modification would consume up to 10x times memory using default VM memory memory size for x86_64 and unchanged for PPC. [1] http://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/28320/

engine got CDI support (finally)

I just recently merged the first CDI [1] patch into master. The patch enables the bll and common projects to have CDI supports but there is now usage still. Further more than the power to create managed beans one can inject dependencies to non-manage beans, e.g all our Command instances. All of the developers are encouraged to read and dig in a bit on the subject to leverage the power of it. I'll will arrange a hands on session. Sampling threads reduction

Hi everyone, Over the last few days I've been working on an concept to reduce the number of threads in VDSM. Currently, one of the biggest source of them is the VM statistics sampling: We have one thread per VM in charge to do so, and this is obviously poorly scalable. I tried for quite some time to solve this at libvirt level, but according to my findings and feelings, that whould require a huge patch. In the process of studying libvirt, I came up with a simple idea which, according to the initial tests, seems to work quite nicely and I'd like to discuss. The concept is to start with a thread pool (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thread_pool) and to add the few additions needed by VDSM: 1. to detect and take care of 'stuck' tasks 2. to avoid a 'stuck' task deplenish the worker pool 3. to avoid to start leak threads on a 'stuck' task I failed to find an existing thread pool which had those additions, so I wrote a new one from scratch: https://github.com/mojaves/vdsm/tree/master/lib/threadpool Then I spawned a new subpackage (a-la zombiereaper) and I consolidated the existed thread pool (from the storage subsystem) and added some longer doc. Please note that the storage had no changes except the trivial import fixes. Lastly, I've also added a small compatibility module for concurrent.futures, which is a very nice python module which provides a convenient interface to asynchronously execute callables; this module is included in python 3.2 (https://docs.python.org/3.3/library/concurrent.futures.html#module-concurre…) and there is a backport for python 2.x. This can also allow us (as in the virt group) to consolidate all the long running async operations using the same interface and code. Please note that I reimplemented a thread pool mostly to be able to experiment with the concepts listed above, which I failed to find implemented elsewhere in existing packages. I'm fine to see them reimplemented elsewhere, since I now believe they collectively provide a viable solution for us. networkOperationMessage is built dynamically in the run-time (e.g. "Attach <NetworkName> to <InterfaceName>"). The final message depends on operation type and its argument(s) (1 or 2). The possible networkOperationMessage does not include '.' (dot sign) at the end so that was added in order to separate the warning from the operation description. Hi, please consider this bugreport: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1111520 it is about the default fencing behaviour of ovirt in the special case of a single node cluster when a logical network marked as "required" is not available on the single host in the cluster. the default behaviour is, to shutdown all vms.
