IPv6 support in oVirt
by Yevgeny Zaspitsky 18 Feb '16

18 Feb '16

Hi All, IPv6 support is a long waited feature in oVirt and that was decided to include it in v4.0. I have updated the feature page [1] with the recent projected changes. Please take a look on the page and please send me your comments so those would be reflected in the feature implementation. Regards, Yevgeny [1] http://www.ovirt.org/Features/IPv6_support

ovirt-3.6 Iscsi restart ends up on bad storage domains
by David Caro 16 Feb '16

--NU0Ex4SbNnrxsi6C Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Hi! I'm working on getting the ovirt system tests working for 3.6 with lago, an= d I have a setup with one vm for the engine, two for hosts, and two other vms f= or storage, one of them is nfs (that works well) and the other is for iscsi. The issue is with the iscsi one, it's an el7.2 vm, I use this script to set= it up: https://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/53534/1/common/deploy-scripts/setup_storage_= iscsi.sh That works well, I can add the storage domain, but if I reboot the iscsi vm, moving the domain into maintenance or not, when I start the vm again and tr= y to activate the domain it complains with: VDSM command failed: Storage domain does not exist: (u'63af2399-f37d-441= a-ac5d-09b65e64ed89',) VDSM lago_basic_suite_3_6_host0 command failed: Volume Group does not ex= ist: (u'vg_uuid: rFDadB-GfrW-hHTw-Y5v5-zkWO-HOuC-Y3HAcV',) If I remove the domain, and manually add it again, it works well, until the next restart. Is there anything I'm not doing ok? I can provide logs if needed (just did not want to spam the list if it's a known issue). --=20 David Caro Red Hat S.L. oVirt presentations with reveal.js
by Adam Litke 11 Feb '16

11 Feb '16

I recently gave an oVirt talk at FOSDEM and decided to use reveal.js[1] to create my slides[2]. Reveal.js is a really slick framework for creating HTML5 based presentations that look really clean and modern. You write your slides in html markup and a javascript library provides everything else (it's a long list of features so see the demo presentation for details[3]). I was pretty happy with the oVirt themed slides I created so decided to package it up into a reusable template. To try it out simply: 1. git clone https://github.com/aglitke/reveal.js.git ovirt-template 2. cd ovirt-template 3. git checkout -b ovirt-template 4. firefox index.html The main changes I have made is to add a floating oVirt logo to the upper-right corner of the slides and a footer. Both can display while presenting and when the slides are printed. I am not a graphic designer or a web developer so I am keen to accept contributions from people with more experience in this area. Enjoy! [1] https://github.com/hakimel/reveal.js [2] http://aglitke.github.io/fosdem-2016/#/ [3] http://lab.hakim.se/reveal-js/#/ -- Adam Litke

Proposing Martin Betak as oVirt UI maintainer
by Vojtech Szocs 08 Feb '16

08 Feb '16

Hello, UI folks! I'd like to propose Martin Betak as oVirt UI maintainer. Over time, Martin made some significant UI contributions: - improving UiCommon by utilizing Java generics [1] - adding GinUiBinder [2] to allow @Inject'ing GIN-managed objects into GWT widgets created in ui.xml templates - upgrade GWT version to 2.6.1 [3] for both oVirt webapps - providing excellent feedback and ideas on oVirtJS project [4] while demonstrating outstanding JavaScript knowledge [1] https://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/32907/ [2] https://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/34954/ [3] https://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/32135/ [4] https://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/49466/ Personal note: Martin is familiar with oVirt GWT UI infra as a whole (GWT-P component model, advanced GWT features, UiCommon integration etc). His grasp on JS and its current eco-system is very solid. Regards, Vojtech

sync meeting - Vdsm 2.2
by Dan Kenigsberg 04 Feb '16

04 Feb '16

(nir, piotr, danken) - splitting supervdsmServer: I think that its a good idea, and that https://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/52875/ is a good start. It would give a nice separation of responsibility, and may serve as a "teaser" for how Vdsm's public API can be broken apart. Nir is worried that it would introduce instability for no immediate gain, while distracting us from solving the supervdsmServer memory leak, or possible security concens - schema conversion: Piotr presented his https://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/52864/ which would convert the json-based schema into a cleaner yaml-based one, which would be easier to version, validate, and obsolete. - Nir was unhappy with recent changes to the contrib client: https://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/q/status:open+project:vdsm+branch:master+topic:j… would prefer using standard stomp client - name discussion is stalling. some people are worried that a rename may turn out to be expensive (release engineering, outher packages, interal module and function name). Still, it would be fun to foresake the non-pronounceable name "vdsm". ovirt-hostd seems like a front runner at the moment. - Nir has advocated trying to use https://trello.com/b/U3lsbVRU/maintenance to maintain the list of our pending tasks. Let's try. Ciao!

Bug 1267508 - [RFE] Replace python-cheetah with python-jinja2 within ovirt-engine
by Sandro Bonazzola 04 Feb '16

04 Feb '16

ovirt-engine has been using python-cheetah for handling the templates used within the project. python-cheetah didn't receive updates since 2012 and is not available on RHEL 7.2. Since we're dropping el6 support in 4.0 we are migrating to a template engine available in el7: python-jinja2[1] which is available in 7.2 and still actively developed. A patch has been pushed and is currently under review[2]. Please be sure to havepython-jinja2 installed on your EL7 development system. --D2pWjDbpFSSm51uhA8xxHJCNvkCFChAEl Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Hi, I'm just installing ovirt 3.6.2 in a new dev setup and noticed that the quickstart guide still just mentions 3.4 and 3.5: https://www.ovirt.org/Quick_Start_Guide#Install_oVirt_Engine_.28Fedora_.2= F_Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux_.2F_CentOS.29 maybe this can get adjusted? PS: Any ETA for ovirt 3.6.3 yet? --=20 Mit freundlichen Gr=C3=BC=C3=9Fen / Regards Sven Kieske Systemadministrator Mittwald CM Service GmbH & Co. Changing the name of VDSM in oVirt 4.0.
by Yaniv Dary 03 Feb '16

03 Feb '16

Hi, I wanted to bring this up to get feedback on this proposed change. VDSM doesn't align to other project under the oVirt umbrella like ovirt-engine, ovirt-node, ovirt-guest-agent etc.. I suggest for ease of use and tracking we change the versioning to align to the engine (4.0.0 in oVirt 4.0 GA) to make it easy to know which version was in which release and also change the package naming to something like ovirt-host-manager\ovirt-host-agent. What do you think on this? What do you think the name should be?
