Contributing on ovirt
by shubham dubey
Hello,
I am interested in being part of ovirt for gsoc 2017.
I have looked into ovirt project ideas and the project that I find
most suitable
is Configuring the backup storage in ovirt.
Since the ovirt online docs have sufficient info for getting started for
development so I don't have a questions about that but I want to clarify
one doubt that did the previous year mentioned project on ovirt gsoc page
are also available to work on?
I will also appreciate any discussion about the project or question from
mentor side.Even some guideline for start working is welcome.
Thanks,
Shubham

cloud-init metadata service
by Marc Young
Ive looked through what documentation I can find and i only come up on bug
reports from years ago, but: is there anyway to get metadata about a oVirt
server metadata from the context of a VM ? cloud-init supports a metadata
service that sits on 169.254.169.254 to retrieve info like instance-id etc.
This is very useful in AWS which I'm familiar with.
My context is that I'd like to run some assertions against a VM and the
test framework I'm using runs all assertions from within the VM itself. So
If i wanted to assert that the host running my VM is "x.foo.com" I'd have
to be able to retrieve that from within the VM. I can do that via the REST
API but that requires me to get a REST user/pass inside the vm and feels
hacky. The common way of doing this at openstack/aws is to curl the
metadata service which replies with information only relevant to the
machine asking.

dashboard jenkins jobs
by Sandro Bonazzola
Hi,
just seen https://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/73182/ merged and no info on why all
those jobs have been dropped.
Can anybody update on this? As far as I can tell 4.y jobs are still needed.
Or am I missing something?
Thanks,

Displaying external kvm VMs in Engine UI?
by Milan Zamazal
I was thinking why external VMs are not displayed in the VM list in
Engine UI. Of course, in theory there shouldn't be any VMs running on
the hosts out of oVirt control. But in reality they sometimes are and
then it would be good to know about their existence -- I should be aware
that something strange is present, either as a result of my or someone's
else actions. Or vice versa, is there any reason to hide them? What do
you think?
Thanks,
Milan

proposing Filip Krepinsky as moVirt maintainer
by Tomas Jelinek
Hi All,
it is my pleasure to propose Filip Krepinsky (suomiy) as the new maintainer
of the moVirt project!
Filip has joined the moVirt project 11th November 2015 by this commit:
https://github.com/matobet/moVirt/commit/d37e71a436e38b6342903b991a30a8f3...
and since than with his 140 commits became the contributor with second most
patches (from 13 contributors in total).
He have also contributed to the aSPICE project and was active in finding
issues in the oVirt core (around dashboard).
His patches are well crafted and I'm absolutely sure he will do great as a
maintainer.
have a nice day,
Tomas
