Hi, I have a VM which acts as an oVirt host with VDSM installed. I use it for testing without connecting it to Engine. Error Java SDK Issue??

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen! I am currently working with the java-sdk and I encountered a problem. If I would like to retrieve the disk details, I get the following error: Disk currDisk = ovirtConnection.followLink(diskAttachment.disk()); The Error is occurring in this line: [cid:image001.png@01D44537.AF127FD0] The getResponst looks quiet ok. (I inspected: [cid:image002.png@01D44537.AF127FD0] and it looks ok). Error: wrong number of arguments The code is quiet similar to what you published on github (https://github.com/oVirt/ovirt-engine-sdk-java/blob/master/sdk/src/test/jav… ). Can you confirm the defect? New dependency for development environment

Hello, we are going to merge a series of patches to master branch, which integrates ansible-runner with oVirt engine. When the patches will be merged you will need to install new package called ansible-runner- service-dev, and follow instructions so your dev-env will keep working smoothly(all relevant info will be also in README.adoc): 1) sudo dnf update ovirt-release-master 2) sudo dnf install -y ansible-runner-service-dev 3) Edit `/etc/ansible-runner-service/config.yaml` file as follows: --- playbooks_root_dir: '$PREFIX/share/ovirt-engine/ansible-runner-service-project' ssh_private_key: '$PREFIX/etc/pki/ovirt-engine/keys/engine_id_rsa' port: 50001 target_user: root Where `$PREFIX` is the prefix of your development environment prefix, which you've specified during the compilation of the engine. 4) Restart and enable ansible-runner-service: # systemctl restart ansible-runner-service # systemctl enable ansible-runner-service That's it, your dev-env should start using the ansible-runner-service for host-deployment etc. Please note that only Fedora 30/31 and Centos7 was packaged, and are natively supported! Hi, Using sysService.hostsService().hostService(host.id()).iscsiDiscover().iscsi(iscsiDetailsBuilder).send().discoveredTargets(); Where iscsiDetailsBuilder is IscsiDetailsBuilder iscsiDetailsBuilder = new IscsiDetailsBuilder().address(address).port(port); I can fetch an iSCSI details container list, which contains the list of iSCSI targets. However, all values, except the address, port, portal and target string are null. I need the iSCSI LUN ID for automation of iSCSI creation. How can this be done via the SDK? Thanks in advance.

Attaching networks to bonded Interfaces using the SDK

I am trying to complete a task using the Java SDK which involves attaching networks to an interface, and then bonding another interface to the attached one. This can be done using the OVM UI in one step. The SDK requires you to remove any attached networks from the interfaces before bonding them. The issue I am having comes after this part, where I try to reattach the networks to the interface which is a slave of the bond that was created. The specific error is as follows: Fault reason is "Operation Failed". Fault detail is "[Interface already in use]". HTTP response code is "400". HTTP response message is "Bad Request" To create the bond I am using the setpNetworks() function, where the interfaces are supplied in a list (nics), as follows: Option bondOptionBuilder = new OptionBuilder().name("mode").value("4").build(); Option miimonOptionBuilder = new OptionBuilder().name(""miimon).value("100").build(); List<Option> options = new ArrayList<>(); options.add(bondOptionBuilder); options.add(miimonOptionBuilder); BondingBuilder bondingBuilder = new BondingBuilder().options(options).slaves(nics); HostNicBuilder hostNicBuilder = new HostNicBuilder().name("bond0").bonding(bondingBuilder); hostService.setupNetworks().modifiedBonds(hostNicBuilder).send(); To reattach the networks (supplied by netAttachmentsToAdd) to the interface, I use the setupNetworks function as follows: hostService.setupNetworks().modifiedNetworkAttachments(netAttachmentsToAdd).send(); I am wondering how I can assign networks to NICs which are slaves of a bond using the SDK. No engine logs when adding a Network to a host NIC using SDK

I am having an issue. I am building a test case and one step involves adding a network to a NIC object. When I perform this step in the UI by navigating from Hosts -> hostToAttachNetwork -> Network Interfaces -> Setup Host Networks . And I drag the required network to NIC object and press ok, after the operation is complete, an event log is registered in the engine.log containing this text: "Network changes were saved on host" When I perform the same step in the automated test case, using the following code: hostService.setupNetworks().modifiedNetworkAttachments( networkAttachment() .network( network() .id(netToAdd.id()) .name(netToAdd.name()) ) .hostNic( hostNic() .id(hsNicId) )) .send(); The operation is performed correctly, the network is attached to the appropriate NIC, but there is no log registered in the engine.log. I am wondering is there a better way to perform the above task that will register an event in the log file. Or is it possible that this a bug in the SDK? Thanks

can't install vdsm & cockpit-ovirt-dashboard on centos 7 host suddenly?

Hi everyone, I hit an issue recently (after reinstalling the engine based on the recent master branch) when I couldn't connect the host I used before. I don't have the exception message at hand now, but basically it had null instead of host-level logs and I decided to not dwell on it but rather update host as well. I used CentOS 7 previously and continued to do so this time. I tried to follow https://ovirt.org/documentation/install-guide/chap-Enterprise_Linux_Hosts.h… but this time yum gives me this: No package vdsm available. No package cockpit-ovirt-dashboard available. Just in case I checked and http://resources.ovirt.org/pub/yum-repo/ovirt-release-master.rpm is not providing either. What is strange is I had this exact setup working already for quite a while (not counting minor version OS upgrades). Do you know what am I doing wrong? Thanks, Fedor

Hi, Upon trying to install oVirt development environment on a new Fedora 31 installation (using the oVirt dependency repos of Fedora 30 as 31 is not supported yet) I've found out that these packages are missing from the Fedora 30 repo: ovirt-engine-metrics ovirt-ansible-roles ovirt-host-deploy ovirt-setup-lib Didi, can you please build them for the Fedora 30 repo?

The major update on the new VirtIO drivers is awesome. Way easier to install and it works with UEFI VM’s. The only complaint that I’ve is that the driver is not digitally signed with a verified certificate inside Windows. So I can’t put my VM’s with secure boot on, only UEFI. Thanks,

Ovirt and ZFS

Hello guy, I am writing to you because I would like to get to know you about a small "project" that I developed about Ovirt that for me seems very interesting and may interested develope teams. After studying Ovirt and seeing that the ideal solution would be to have three nodes, for "economic" needs, I wanted to try buying two SuperMicro nodes, with two M2 disks on which I installed CentOS, two SSD disks as cache for writing to speed up I / O operations, 4 rotating 15,000 RPM disks that I formatted in ZFS, putting 3 as storage for the VMs and one in reserve. At this point, I installed Ovirt as a VM on storage and it ran "normally", thus always creating my VMs on the storage with the normal Ovirt procedure. The thing that I think is interesting, is that for every VM I assign a storage quota, so the VM1 will have for example 100Gb of disk assigned, called Disk1. Obviously, this space is subsequently editable through the ZFS commands. Always with the ZFS functionalities, I have the possibility to take a snapshot of disk1 and "send" it to node 2 which is configured exactly as node 1. This operation, thanks to ZFS, is very fast and need chip bandwith... In this way, node 1 is the production node, node 2 acts from a silent "repository" of snapshots that arriving, every few minutes (even absurdly every minute) from node1. In case of a fault in the VM of node1, or of the entire node1, I have the possibility to restoring the VM to the node 2, with a simple ZFS command, the snapshot to tot minutes ago, "attach" that datastore to the node and restart the VM, having lost as data only the delta from the last snapshot at the time of the fault. The procedure I tested and tested several times, coming to inject a cryptolocker on VM1, turning it off, restoring the last snap on node2 and restarting it at the last snap, all within a few minutes. In my opinion, developing a web interface now (something I am not able to do) that would allow the installation of deciding the ZFS configuration of the storage disks and then, again via the web, the possibility of defining the cron of the snapshot and possible restoration, the product would be really interesting and attractive, because meanwhile I don't have to have three nodes and more because in case of fault, in a few minutes you can get back on your feet with a data loss that for the vast majority of companies is plausible and approachable. Hi everyone, Vojtech joined the Storage team 15 months ago and was quickly thrown by us into the deep and stormy waters of VDSM This past year and a bit Vojtech managed to dive quickly into VDSM and played a key part in the 4K blocks feature, Python3 transformation, RHEL8 host support and numerous tests addition, code review and refactors. Vojtech has managed to have more than 200 VDSM patches merged this year and if you're a VDSM developer you probably know this is nothing trivial :) Given the deep knowledge Vojtech acquired and the responsibility he showed in the reviews, tests and verification I'd like to nominate Vojtech as a VDSM Storage maintainer. While waiting for CentOS Linux 8.1 to be released, we are now preparing an alpha compose that will be made available on top of CentOS Linux 8.0. I'm starting gathering the builds to be included in the alpha release with the first commit here: https://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/104880/ If you want a specific version to be included in alpha please push a patch updating the release configuration file. Hi, To validate an issue I am working on I was trying to build ovirt-engine 4.0 on my CentOS 7.7 but it seems to fail for me. If my JAVA_HOME is pointing to where java 7 is installed, I get javac: invalid target release: 1.8 if it points to where java 8 is, checkstyle strikes again: Failed to execute goal on project ovirt-checkstyle-extension: Could not resolve dependencies for project org.ovirt.engine:ovirt-checkstyle-extension:jar:4.0.6: Could not find artifact com.sun:tools:jar:1.7.0 at specified path /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.8.0-openjdk-1.8.0.232.b09-0.el7_7.x86_64/jre/../lib/tools.jar Is that how it works for everyone? The above 2 builds have been tested on a single host nested VM system with 70Gb disk, 8Gb of RAM and 4 cores for the node. Both oVirt Node and oVirt Engine appliance installation succeeded on 80GB NFS external storage with static IP addressing. We have a known issue on booting with more than 1 NIC that will be addressed soon, so please use a single NIC in your tests for now. Hi, just executed basic suite for testing 4.3.7 rc4 and instead of falling back on latest released it was falling back on latest tested which is newer than 4.3.7 rc4 so made the test useless. Hi, In some complex unit tests I would like to print the initial state that is being tested to stdout when the test is being run by the ovirt-engine build. The text size is negligible. The reason for the printout is to help visualize the state because it is not straight forward. Does anybody see a reason due to security or some other constraint not to print to stdout from engine unit tests? Thanks

*What are we talking about exactly?* The CI team had been doing work over the last few weeks to create and enable a container-based CI backend that is usable as an alternative for the legacy VM-and-chroot backend we've been using so far. *Why?* 1. *You asked for it: *We've been approached by several developer teams asking for this kind of functionality 2. *Faster:* The new backend requires far less setup overhead then the legacy one, and therefore would allow jobs to start and finish faster 3. *More flexible: *The old backend allowed specifying build/test dependencies in terms of RPM packages, the container based one uses container images for this which are far more flexible 4. *More versatile:* There were some limits to what could be done reliably with chroots. Fedora 31 support

We usually support only the most recent version of Fedora, which is now 31. We can use Fedora 30 for a while, but it is really too old (older than CentOS 8) and there is on point to use it. Instead of helping to discover issues early, we waste time on dealing with old packages that nobody maintains. For storage we need Fedora 31 for lvm 2.03, fixing critical issues. Using Fedora 30, we will have to add ugly hacks to have configuration that works with both versions. For network we need newer versions of NetworkManager and initscripts (Edward can add more details). For virt we use virt-preview repo, so we have recent versions of libvirt and qemu on any Fedora version (even 29). I added Fedora 31 builds for imageio, and all tests pass in travis: https://travis-ci.org/nirs/ovirt-imageio/builds/611042648 Adding ioprocess build should be easy, similar to this patch: https://gerrit.ovirt.org/c/104634 On Jenkins the fc31 build fails since there is no mock env for Fedora 31: https://jenkins.ovirt.org/blue/organizations/jenkins/ovirt-imageio_standard… When do we plan to support Fedora 31? Changing a host name

Hey everyone, So im in need of replacing a host, so the process goes like this , there are 3 hosts called A,B,C with (RHHI setup) (ovirt) and i want to replace A, so I order a new physical machine D and now i have to disable the A's hostname(meaning its not accessible by A anymore) and now i change D's hostname as A(so D is accessible by A's hostname) and then I execute the script to replace host. Now i tried following the steps mentioned in net to change the hostname and if i execute the hostname command in A (it shows the changed hostname) although im unable to ssh with the new hostname and im still able to ssh into A with old hostname.) Also, as far as the other 2 hosts are concerned they dont even know that A's hostname is changed and they still ssh it with A's old hostname (this is i believe because the 3 hosts are connected with ovirtmgmt network , so they still retain A's actual name with ovirt ip) Any help on this is appreciated. Good morning - I gave 0.1.173 from the 0.1.173-2 folder a try and the installation is failing when trying to start the "virtio-win-guest-tools" service. I tried multiple times and made sure I have administrative rights but can't get it to work. I rebooted and tried again and that didn't help. The system is 2012 R2 fully patched. qemu-img process stuck

Hi, I'm doing some manual storage tests on RHEL 8.1 host (kernel version 4.18.0-107.el8.x86_64) and run into following issue: when I try to move an image to block SD and RHEL 8.1 host is SPM, qemu-img gets stuck. There are errors regarding blk_cloned_rq_check_limits on RHEL host and also max_write_same_len on iscsi target (see bellow). iscsi target runs CentOS 7.6. Before running qemu-img command, everything works fine (e.g. cat a file from iscsi target), after running qemu-img, all IO on iscsi target is very slow. When I try to run qemu-img command manually, it's very slow (1GB image take several minutes), but finishes, when it's run from vdsm, it seems to be hung forever. In similar cases I found it could be fixed by adjusting various values in /sys/block/#DEVICE/queue/, but in this case, AFAICT all values are correct (same as on CentOS 7.7 host where everything work). Or it was identified as a bug in the kernel and was suggested to upgrade to newer kernel. Do you know any workaround, how to make it working? Or does it sound to you like a bug in kernel which should be reported?
