oVirt host deploy: disable multipath

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1472356 There are 2 drives in my install that oVirt is claiming as multipath. I have tried blacklisting at /etc/multipath/ but that hasn't worked. Any better solutions? I need these 2 drives to be non-multipathed.

Network Address Change

Hi All: I just has a case, I need to change the oVirt host and engine IP address due to data center decommission I checked in the hosted-engine host there are some files I could change ; in ovirt-hosted-engine/hosted-engine.conf ca_subject="O=simple.com, CN=1.2.3.4" gateway=1.2.3.254 and of course I need to change the ovirtmgmt interface IP too, I think just change the above line could do the tick, but where could I change the other host IP in the cluster ? I think I have to be lost all the host as once changed the hosted-engine host IP as it is in diff. sub net. Does there any command line tools could do that or someone has such experience could share? looking for some ISV backup software which integrates the backup API

Hello, We are about to change our backup provider, and I find it is a great chance to choose a full supported ovirt backup solution. I currently use this python script vm-backup-scheduler (https://github.com/wefixit-AT/oVirtBackup) but it is not the workflow officially suggested by the community (https://www.ovirt.org/develop/release-management/features/storage/backup-re…) I've been looking for a long time an ISV who supports such an API, but the only one I found is this one : Acronis Backup Advanced suggested here https://access.redhat.com/ecosystem/search/#/ecosystem/Red%20Hat%20Enterpri… I ran the trial version, but it doesn't seem to do better than the vm-backup-scheduler script, and it doesn't seem to use the backup API (attach a clone as a disk to an existing vm). Can you suggest me some other ISV solutions, if they ever exist... or share me your backup experience?

OVS switch type for hosted-engine

Is it possible to setup a hosted engine using the OVS switch type instead of Legacy? If it's not possible to start out as OVS, instructions for switching from Legacy to OVS after the fact would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Devin

USB3 redirection

Hi, I'm trying to assign a USB3 controller to a CentOS 7.4 VM in oVirt 4.1 with USB redirection enabled. I've created the following file in /etc/ovirt-engine/osinfo.conf.d: 01-usb.properties with content os.other.devices.usb.controller.value = nec-xhci and have restarted ovirt-engine. If I disable USB-support in the web interface for the VM, the xhci controller is added to the VM (I can see it in the qemu-kvm commandline), but usb redirection is not available. If I enable USB-support in the UI, no xhci controller is added (only 4 uhci controllers). Is there a way to make the controllers for usb redirection xhci controllers? OVN routing and firewalling in oVirt

Hello, how do we manage routing between different OVN networks in oVirt? And between OVN networks and physical ones? Based on architecture read here: http://openvswitch.org/support/dist-docs/ovn-architecture.7.html I see terms for logical routers and gateway routers respectively but how to apply to oVirt configuration? Do I have to choose between setting up a specialized VM or a physical one: is it applicable/advisable to put on oVirt host itself the gateway functionality? Is there any security policy (like security groups in Openstack) to implement? Thanks, Gianluca

Install hosted-engine - Task Get local VM IP failed

Hi all, I try to install hosted-engine on node : ovirt-node-ng-4.2.3-0.20180518. OVN and change of mgmt network

Hello, I previously had OVN running on engine (as OVN provider with northd and northbound and southbound DBs) and hosts (with OVN controller). After changing mgmt ip of hosts (engine has retained instead the same ip), I executed again on them the command: vdsm-tool ovn-config <ip_of_engine> <nel_local_ip_of_host> Now I think I have to clean up some things, eg: 1) On engine where I get these lines below systemctl status ovn-northd.service -l . . . Sep 29 14:41:42 ovmgr1 ovsdb-server[940]: ovs|00005|reconnect|ERR|tcp: 10.4.167.40:37272: no response to inactivity probe after 5 seconds, disconnecting Oct 03 11:52:00 ovmgr1 ovsdb-server[940]: ovs|00006|reconnect|ERR|tcp: 10.4.167.41:52078: no response to inactivity probe after 5 seconds, disconnecting The two IPs are the old ones of two hosts It seems that a restart of the services has fixed... deprecating export domain?

Hello, I recently read on this list from a redhat member that export domain is either being deprecated or looking at being deprecated To that end, can you share details? Can you share any notes/postings/bz's that document this? I would imagine something like this would be discussed in larger audience This seems like a somewhat significant change to make and I am curious where this is scheduled? Currently, a lot of my backups rely explicitly on an export domain for online snapshots, so I'd like to plan accordingly Thanks!

Vm suddenly paused with error "vm has paused due to unknown storage error"

Hi all, Since we upgraded our Ovirt nodes to CentOS 7 a vm (not a specific one but never more then one) will sometimes pause suddenly with the error "VM ... has paused due to unknown storage error". It happens now two times in a month. The Ovirt node uses san storage for the vm's running on it. When a specific vm is pausing with an error the other vm's keeps running without problems. The vm runs without problems after unpausing it. Unable to find OVF_STORE after recovery / upgrade

[Users] Problem Creating "oVirtEngine" Machine

Modifying every box's or Virtual Machine's = HOSTS file with a FQDN and IP SHOULD work, but in my case it is not. = There are several reasons I've come to believe could be the problem = during my trial-and-errors testing and learning. FIRST - MACHINE IPs. THe machine's "Names" where not appearing in the Microsoft Active = Directory DHCP along with their assigned IPs; in other words, the DHCP = just showed an "Assigned IP", equal to the Linux Machine's IP, with a = <empty> ('i.e. blank, none, silch, plan old "no-letters-or-numbers") = "Name" in the "Name" (i.e. machines "network name", or FQDN-value used = by the Windows AD DNS-service) column. =20 if your IP is is appearing with an <empty> "name", there is no "host = name" to associate the IP, it makes it difficult to define a FQDN; which = isn't that useful if we're going to use the HOSTS files in all = participating machines in an oVirt Installation. I kept banging my head for three (3) long hours trying to find the = problem. In Fedora 18, I could't find where the "network name" of the machine = could be defined. =20 I tried putting the "Additional Search Domains" and/or "DHCP Client ID" = in Fedora's 18 Desktop - under "System Settings > Hardware > Network > = Options > IPv4 Setting" The DHCP went crazy; showing an "Aberrant-MAC-Address" (i.e. a really = long-sting value where the machine's MAC address should be), and we knew = the MAC address as we obtained using "ifconfig" on the machine getting = it's IP from the DHCP. So we reverted these entries from the = aforementioned, rebooted, and got an assigned IP, with proper MAC = address, but still no "Name" Kept wondering around the "Settings" and seeing which one made sense, = but what the heck, I went for it. =20 Under "System Settings > System > Details" I found the information about = GNOME and the machine's hardware. =20 There was a field for "Device Name" that originally had = "localhost.localdomain"; I changed the value to "ovirtmanager". and = under "Graphic" changed to "Forced Fallback Mode" to "ON". =20 I also installed all Kerberos libraries and client (i.e. authconfig-gtk, = authhub, authhub-client, krb5-apple-clents, krb5-auth-dialog, = krb5-workstation, pam-kcoda, pam-krb5, root-net.krb5) and rebooted VOILA=85!!! =20 I don;t know if it was the definition of "Device Name" from = "localhost.localdomain" to "ovirtengine", of the Kerberos libraries = install, or both. But finally the MS AD DHCP was showing the = Addigned-IP, the machine "Name" and the proper MAC-address. Regardless, = setting the machine's "Network Name" under "System Settings > System > = Details > Device Name", with no explanation of what "Device Name" meant = or was used for, was the last place I would have imagined this network = setting could be defined. NOTE - Somebody has to try the two steps I did together, separately. to = see which one is the real problem-solver; for me it is working, and "if = it ain't broke, don't fix it=85" Now that I have the DHCP / IP thing sorted, I have to do the DNS stuff. To this point, I've addressed the DHCP and "Network Name" of the = IP-Lease (required for the DNS to work). This still does't completely = explain why, by modifying the HOSTS file (allowing be to set and IP and = non-DNS FQDN). allows me to install the oVirtEngine "as long as I do not = use default HTTPd service parameters as suggested by the install". By = using the HOST file to "define" FQDNs, AND NOT using the default HTTPd = suggested changes, I'm able to install the oVirtEngine (given that I use = ports 8700 and 8701) to access the "oVirtEngine Welcome Screen", BUT = NONE of the "oVirt Portals" work=85 YET=85!!! Hi Community, Currently, there is no single document describing supported (which means: working ) upgrade scenarios. I think the project has matured enough, to have such an supported upgradepath, which should be considered in the development of new releases. As far as I know, currently it is supported to upgrade from x.y.z to x.y.z+1 and from x.y.z to x.y+1.z but not from x.y-1.z to x.y+1.z directly. maybe this should be put together in a wiki page at least. also it would be cool to know how long a single "release" would be supported. In this context I would define a release as a version bump from x.y.z to x.y+1.z or to x+1.y.z a bump in z would be a bugfix release. Hello, I have 2 physical servers with Opteron 2nd gen cpu. There is CentOS 6.3 installed and some VM already configured on them. Need VM run once api

Here we installed cloudinit in vm and then converted vm to template. Ovirt Nested in VMWare (Working approach)

I worked through this previously and posted in IRC yesterday about working around running ovirt nested under VMWare. Specifically it's a problem with the --machine type at 3 major parts of the vm creation for the hosted-engine. 1) You have to fix the virt-install to use --machine pc-i440fx-rhel7.2.0 2) You have to fix the guestfish spinup of the partially configured vm to use --machine pc-i440fx-rhel7.2.0, where they edit the nic config among other things 3) You have to tell vdsm on the node to use --machine pc-i440fx-rhel7.2.0 I don't know the underlying reason why a --machine type > pc-i440fx-rhel7.2.0 breaks the system but it ends up resulting in a bios freeze. Again, Hope this helps someone. Suggested only to use for a test/dev system.

Enable Dedupe & Compression is new? Configure LV Cache: what do we enter for SSD? What happens if my disks are already all SSD, do I still benefit from using this?

On the case I'll be able to create an installer, what is the name of the Application need to be there, in order to ovirt detects that Ovirt Guest agent is installed? I have created an installer adding OvirtGuestService files and the Product Name to be shown, a part of the command line post installs.. I have tried with "ovirt-guest-agent" and "Ovirt guest agent" Names for the application installed on Windows 7 guest and even both are presented on ovirt VM Applications tab, on any case LogonVDScommand appears. Using the web-ui VM portal through a proxy failing

Dear oVirt Gurus, Using the oVirt user VM portal seems to not work through the squid proxy setup (configured as per the guide). The page loads and login works fine through the proxy, but the asynchronous requests just hang. I've attached a screenshot, but you can see the "api" endpoint just hanging in a web inspector: "https://proxyfqdn/ovirt-engine/api/" [cid:CA42E493-3AD9-45F8-B4C3-C914F059390C@well.ox.ac.uk] This works fine when not going through the proxy. Is there a way to force noVNC HTML as the console mode through the web-ui, or at least have it as an option if not default? The console seems not to work when logged in with a base 'user role'. Ovirt cluster unstable; gluster to blame (again)

hi all: Once again my production ovirt cluster is collapsing in on itself. My servers are intermittently unavailable or degrading, customers are noticing and calling in. This seems to be yet another gluster failure that I haven't been able to pin down. I posted about this a while ago, but didn't get anywhere (no replies that I found). The problem started out as a glusterfsd process consuming large amounts of ram (up to the point where ram and swap were exhausted and the kernel OOM killer killed off the glusterfsd process). For reasons not clear to me at this time, that resulted in any VMs running on that host and that gluster volume to be paused with I/O error (the glusterfs process is usually unharmed; why it didn't continue I/O with other servers is confusing to me). I have 3 servers and a total of 4 gluster volumes (engine, iso, data, and data-hdd). The first 3 are replica 2+arb; the 4th (data-hdd) is replica 3. The first 3 are backed by an LVM partition (some thin provisioned) on an SSD; the 4th is on a seagate hybrid disk (hdd + some internal flash for acceleration). data-hdd is the only thing on the disk. Servers are Dell R610 with the PERC/6i raid card, with the disks individually passed through to the OS (no raid enabled). The above RAM usage issue came from the data-hdd volume. Yesterday, I cought one of the glusterfsd high ram usage before the OOM-Killer had to run. I was able to migrate the VMs off the machine and for good measure, reboot the entire machine (after taking this opportunity to run the software updates that ovirt said were pending). Upon booting back up, the necessary volume healing began. However, this time, the healing caused all three servers to go to very, very high load averages (I saw just under 200 on one server; typically they've been 40-70) with top reporting IO Wait at 7-20%. Network for this volume is a dedicated gig network. According to bwm-ng, initially the network bandwidth would hit 50MB/s (yes, bytes), but tailed off to mostly in the kB/s for a while. All machines' load averages were still 40+ and gluster volume heal data-hdd info reported 5 items needing healing. Server's were intermittently experiencing IO issues, even on the 3 gluster volumes that appeared largely unaffected. Even the OS activities on the hosts itself (logging in, running commands) would often be very delayed. The ovirt engine was seemingly randomly throwing engine down / engine up / engine failed notifications. Responsiveness on ANY VM was horrific most of the time, with random VMs being inaccessible. I let the gluster heal run overnight. By morning, there were still 5 items needing healing, all three servers were still experiencing high load, and servers were still largely unstable. I've noticed that all of my ovirt outages (and I've had a lot, way more than is acceptable for a production cluster) have come from gluster. I still have 3 VMs who's hard disk images have become corrupted by my last gluster crash that I haven't had time to repair / rebuild yet (I believe this crash was caused by the OOM issue previously mentioned, but I didn't know it at the time). Is gluster really ready for production yet? It seems so unstable to me.... I'm looking at replacing gluster with a dedicated NFS server likely FreeNAS. Any suggestions? What is the "right" way to do production storage on this (3 node cluster)? Can I get this gluster volume stable enough to get my VMs to run reliably again until I can deploy another storage solution? --Jim

Out of sync, hosts network config differs from DC

Property: default route, host - true, DC - false I have 4 nics. bond0 = 2 x 10g eno1 = ovirtmgmt eno2 = for vm traffic. eno2 says it's out of sync, hosts network config differs from DC, default route: host - true, DC - false. I have tried "sync all networks" but the message still remains See attached. Where can I look to fix the issue?

oVirt Node on CentOS 7.5 and AMD EPYC Support

Hi, I am currently building a new virtualization cluster with oVirt, using AMD EPYC processors (AMD EPYC 7351P). At the moment I'm running oVirt Node Version 4.2.3 @ CentOS 7.4.1708. We have the situation that the processor type is recognized as "AMD Opteron G3". With this type of instruction set the VMs are not able to do AES in hardware, this results in poor performance in our case. I found some information that tells me that this problem should be solved with CentOS 7.5 --> <https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHEA-2018:1488> My actual questions: - Are there any further information about the AMD EPYC support? - Any information about an update of the oVirt node to CentOS 7.5? [OT] transferring kvm raw mage from filesystem to lvm based

Hello, I have a windows 7 VM that is composed by a raw disk on filesystem on Fedora 28. I would like to transfer this VM to another environment, always based on same version of Fedora 28, but where the storage is configured in virt-manager as lvm based, so similar to what happens in oVirt block based storage domains. I'm trying to figure how to transfer the image. I presume I can create a new LV and then leave some bytes for the LVM header into the created LV and then make a sort of dd with offset? Failed to synchronize networks of Provider ovirt-provider-ovn

Hi, After upgrading to 4.2.1 I have problems with ovn provider. I'm getting "Failed to synchronize networks of Provider ovirt-provider-ovn." I use custom SSL certificate in apache and I guess this is the reason. I've tried to update ovirt-provider-ovn.conf with [OVIRT] #ovirt-ca-file=/etc/pki/ovirt-engine/ca.pem ovirt-ca-file=/etc/pki/ovirt-engine/apache-ca.pem but still no go Any tips on this? thanks G

Engine Setup Error

Hi, We are deploying the hosted engine on oVirt-Node-4.2.3.1 using the command "hosted-engine --deploy". After providing answers it runs the ansible script and hit the Error when creating glusterfs storage domain. Attached the screenshot of the ERROR. Please help.
