ovirt.org documentation refresh

Hi all, Brian Proffitt has kindly offered to refresh the documentation on ovirt.org to version 4.2 (it's currently a mix of 4.0 + whatever people have updated since.) Other than the main 'official' documentation, I noticed that there is a lot of documentation on separate sites. For example, imageio, mom, all of the OST stuff, etc. For now there are no plans for any of this extra stuff, but in the future it should probably all look the same. Can you share ovirt documentation sites that you know of? s390x (mainframe) CI node is currently not available

Hi all, Unfortunately, the s390x build host we've been using had gone off-line a couple of days ago, and the ETA for having it back up is unknown. The implication of having the host down is that projects that build on s390x have their builds be stuck forever waiting for the s390x node to become available. Sine the s390x builds are missing, builds for other platforms, while being successful do not get passed to the change queue and as a result are not being released to the nightly repos. As a work around for the current situation, we need to disable the s390x builds. If you create a sparse file on your backup media, and download and write the data segments at the correct offset, you will get the a sparse version of the image as on the server side. This will work for raw or qcow2 images on NFS >= 4.2, or for qcow2 images on block storage. For older NFS versions, or raw images on block storage, we can solve the issue by reading the entire image and detecting zeroes - which is quite expensive, so I'm not sure we will implement this, maybe it will be done later. We have experimental patch using special sparse format, that can support this use case, downloading entire image in one pass. Extended DPDK support in oVirt[0]

Compatible hosts and NICs can now be easily configured to use userspace drivers, while usage is enhanced via OVN, allowing for both increased performance and SDN usability. Hi, Whats up with the oVirt Dashboard? it has few problems:. You can see my Dashboard here: https://imgur.com/a/n4IWppe * the errors/warning cube doesn't update so much even after cleaning and waiting an hour or 2 * Cluster cube shows "1 cluster" but also "N/A" even when my cluster is up with 2 machines (with DNS names). * The memory calculation is wrong - it still shows 503.5 GB even if 1 node is down for maintenance (which means I need to see something like 220GB) Should I open bugs on all of them in 1 bugzilla? if so, on which product? We have following queries: 1. While downloading a snapshot disk, can we identify allocated extents and download only those using oVirt API? We are able to download the disk using the Image Transfer API mechanism. However, this method downloads the entire disk including the non-allocated extents, which is a performance overhead. [ATT] OST 'master' is now broken because of a change in CentOS - DEVELOPMENT BLOCKED

The openstack-java-glance-* packages in CentOS have been updated in a way that is now incompatible with how engine had been using Glance. This in turn causes any OST run to break ATM, which means no patches are currently making it past OST and CQ and into the 'tested' and nightly snapshot repositories. So far we've only seen this affect 'master' but since the change was made in CentOS, there is no reason to believe it will not break other version as well. A fix to engine to make it compatible with the new package had been posted here: https://gerrit.ovirt.org/c/93352/ Additionally, an issue in OST had made this harder to diagnose then it should have been, and was fixed here: https://gerrit.ovirt.org/c/93350/ Actions required: 1. Please avoid merging any unrelated patches until the issue is fixed 2. If you've merged any patches since Friday morning, please not that there were probably removed from the change queue asfailed changes, ad willl need to be resubmitted by either merging a newer patch to the relevant project, commenting "ci re-merge please" on the latest merged patch in Gerrit or resenting the Webhook event from GitHub. 3. storage domain deactivating

Hi, As part of my "torture testing" to oVirt (4.2.4) I'm doing some testing with 1 node where I shut down the HE and the machine (powering off, not yanking the power cable) and rebooting to see it's survival status. One of the weird thing that happens is that when the machine boots and it starts the HE, it mounts the storage domains and everything works. However, after few moments, 3 of my 4 storage domains (ISO, export, and another storage domain, but not the hosted_engine storage domain) is being automatically deactivted, with the following errors: VDSM command GetFileStatsVDS failed: Storage domain does not exist: (u'f241db01-2282-4204-8fe0-e27e36b3a909',) Refresh image list failed for domain(s): ISO (ISO file type). Please check domain activity. Storage Domain ISO (Data Center HetzLabs) was deactivated by system because it's not visible by any of the hosts. Storage Domain data-NAS3 (Data Center HetzLabs) was deactivated by system because it's not visible by any of the hosts. Storage Domain export (Data Center HetzLabs) was deactivated by system because it's not visible by any of the hosts. However, when I see those message and I'm manually re-activating those storage domains, all of them getting the status "UP" and there are no errors and I can see disks, images, etc... Should I open a bug in Bugzilla about this issue? Thanks

OST: Cluster compatibility testing

Hi, CI runs now OST basic-suite-master periodically with data center and cluster versions different from the default one on master. That tests changes in master for breakages when run in older version compatibility modes. Contingent failures are reported to infra. If you make an OST test known not to run on older cluster versions (e.g. < 4.1), you should mark the test with a decorator such as @versioning.require_version(4, 1) You can also distinguish cluster version dependent code inside tests by calling versioning.cluster_version_ok(4, 1) See examples in basic-suite-master. You can run basic-suite-master with a different data center and cluster version manually on your computer by setting OST_DC_VERSION environment variable, e.g.: export OST_DC_VERSION=4.1 ./run_suite.sh basic-suite-master Barak, it's currently possible to request OST run on Gerrit patches. I was asked whether it is also possible to request an OST run with a non-default cluster version(s). Is it or not? Thanks, Milan

May snapshot status be `OK' before snapshot creation finishes?

Hi, a failure of previewing a snapshot with memory has been experienced in OST master suite and I'm not sure whether REST API responses about snapshot status are correct or not. When I'm creating a snapshot with memory, <snapshot_status> reported from Engine REST API in /api/vms/…/snapshots is initially `locked' and later switches to `ok'. The problem is that `ok' starts being reported before snapshot creation completes, resulting in errors if I try to stop the VM or to preview the snapshot at the moment. Does <snapshot_status>ok</snapshot_status> guarantee that the snapshot is completed or not? I can see the following example in ovirt-engine-sdk (for snapshot without memory): # 'Waiting for Snapshot creation to finish' snapshot_service = snapshots_service.snapshot_service(snapshot.id) while True: time.sleep(5) snapshot = snapshot_service.get() if snapshot.snapshot_status == types.SnapshotStatus.OK: break So I suppose snapshot status shouldn't switch to OK before snapshot creation finishes. It appears you have permission issues on your storage. I see you are using storageType='LOCALFS' per https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/admin-guide/chap-Storage/ "Ensure that the directory has permissions allowing read/write access to the vdsm user (UID 36) and kvm group (GID 36)." Hi, you can now "dnf install ovirt-engine" on fedora 28 using https://resources.ovirt.org/repos/ovirt/tested/master/rpm/fc28/ ovirt-master-snapshot is still syncing and will probably be aligned in 1 hour or so. Mirrors should be aligned by tomorrow. Please note that no test has been done on the build. Host side we are currently blocked on a broken dependency on Bug 1588471 <https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1588471> - nothing provides python-rhsm needed by pulp-rpm-handlers-2.15.2-1.fc28.noarch And we still miss vdsm build, pending https://gerrit.ovirt.org/91944 review and merge for supporting fc28. A few notes on the engine build: - Dropped fluentd and related packages from the dependency tree: there's no commitment in supporting fluentd for metrics in 4.3 so we didn't invest time in packaging it for fedora. - Dropped limitation on novnc < 0.6. Fedora already has 0.6.1 in stable repository and we have Bug 1502652 <https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1502652> - [RFE] upgrade novnc which should be scoped for 4.3.0 or we should consider dropping novnc support. This should allow to start developing oVirt Engine appliance based on Fedora 28 and then OST suites. Hi, In 4.2 you can upload ISOs to any data domains and use them in VMs. This would be my recommendation. If you wish to use a ISO domain, you can't create it on the engine, you need provide another NFS location and create it via the WebAdmin (not import). Moving forward, please avoid using any and all of GWT's CSS features when working in webadmin. Problems with iso domain

Hi, I've got a problem trying to 'import or create the ISO domain. My setup. - Everything is CentOS 7.4 minimal iso using oVirt 4.2.latest I have one box which I installed just the engine to (Not a hosted engine). It never asked me to create the iso domain as part of engine-setup as the install instructions outlines. I have reinstalled both OS and engine more than 8 times (due to other issues I've worked around) and each time I'm never asked. So I have 7 hosts how all registered with the engine but now I'm trying to create/import an iso domain. I'm hosting a number of storage domains on one of the hosts and I can register in those data domain without any problems however when I import an iso domain using a nfs (I through I read the iso domain should be created if it's not there) path I get "There is no storage domain under the specified path. Check event pane for more details." a) Nothing appears in the event pane and b) looking through engine.log it appears that the engine is querying the host for the iso domain and failing it. Hi, as you can read below Gluster 4.1 LTM release is available in CentOS. We are currently using 3.12 in oVirt 4.2 but this release is going EOL in 6 months. I would suggest to move 4.3 / Master to Gluster 4.1 now. Any objection? Adding a supported distro

dumb q. I have a distro I'd like to add to the supported list. (private labeled version of a rhel 7.5) I tried grabbing an unclaimed ID, putting that plus the output of osinfo-query —fields=name os short-id='my_shortid' and derivedFrom.value= well_known_distro into osinfo-defaults.properties and restarting ovirt-engine, but I still come up with install failed because '$MYNAME' is not supported. Am I missing something obvious? Entry looks like this: os.my_7x86.id.value = 34 os.my_7x86.name.value = My Linux 7.5 os.my_7x86.derivedFrom.value = rhel_6x64 ideas? Thanks!

Is your engine functioning at all? I'm not sure if you're saying your entire engine doesn't work, or just host deploy doesn't work. What version of ovirt engine is this? How did you install -- fresh installation, upgrade? From source or rpm? oVirt LLDP Labeler

Hello, I would like to announce that oVirt LLDP Labeler is officially available. The Labeler is service that runs along with engine and is capable of labeling host network interfaces according to their reported VLANs via LLDP. The attached labels are named "lldp_vlan_${VLAN}", where ${VLAN} is ID of the corresponding VLAN. This can make work of an administrator easier, because any network with the same label, will be automatically attached to the corresponding host interface. The Labeler is currently tested only with Juniper switches which are capable of reporting all of their VLANs that are present on the interface. We would like to extend the Labeler with auto bonding feature. Those interfaces that are detected on the same switch would be automatically bonded. I'm trying to rebuild our test images at: https://hub.docker.com/u/ovirtorg/dashboard/ The fedora rawhide image fail with this error: Problem: conflicting requests - nothing provides python2-blockdev >= 1.1 needed by python2-blivet1-1:1.20.4-3.fc28.noarch Anyone has clue about this error?
