Hi, I have a VM which acts as an oVirt host with VDSM installed. I use it for testing without connecting it to Engine. Error Java SDK Issue??

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen! I am currently working with the java-sdk and I encountered a problem. If I would like to retrieve the disk details, I get the following error: Disk currDisk = ovirtConnection.followLink(diskAttachment.disk()); The Error is occurring in this line: [cid:image001.png@01D44537.AF127FD0] The getResponst looks quiet ok. (I inspected: [cid:image002.png@01D44537.AF127FD0] and it looks ok). Error: wrong number of arguments The code is quiet similar to what you published on github (https://github.com/oVirt/ovirt-engine-sdk-java/blob/master/sdk/src/test/jav… ). Can you confirm the defect? Hi, Using sysService.hostsService().hostService(host.id()).iscsiDiscover().iscsi(iscsiDetailsBuilder).send().discoveredTargets(); Where iscsiDetailsBuilder is IscsiDetailsBuilder iscsiDetailsBuilder = new IscsiDetailsBuilder().address(address).port(port); I can fetch an iSCSI details container list, which contains the list of iSCSI targets. However, all values, except the address, port, portal and target string are null. I need the iSCSI LUN ID for automation of iSCSI creation. How can this be done via the SDK? Thanks in advance.

[feedback needed] VirtIO Windows Drivers - new installer

Good morning - I gave 0.1.173 from the 0.1.173-2 folder a try and the installation is failing when trying to start the "virtio-win-guest-tools" service. I tried multiple times and made sure I have administrative rights but can't get it to work. I rebooted and tried again and that didn't help. The system is 2012 R2 fully patched. qemu-img process stuck

Hi, I'm doing some manual storage tests on RHEL 8.1 host (kernel version 4.18.0-107.el8.x86_64) and run into following issue: when I try to move an image to block SD and RHEL 8.1 host is SPM, qemu-img gets stuck. There are errors regarding blk_cloned_rq_check_limits on RHEL host and also max_write_same_len on iscsi target (see bellow). iscsi target runs CentOS 7.6. Before running qemu-img command, everything works fine (e.g. cat a file from iscsi target), after running qemu-img, all IO on iscsi target is very slow. When I try to run qemu-img command manually, it's very slow (1GB image take several minutes), but finishes, when it's run from vdsm, it seems to be hung forever. In similar cases I found it could be fixed by adjusting various values in /sys/block/#DEVICE/queue/, but in this case, AFAICT all values are correct (same as on CentOS 7.7 host where everything work). Or it was identified as a bug in the kernel and was suggested to upgrade to newer kernel. Do you know any workaround, how to make it working? Or does it sound to you like a bug in kernel which should be reported? Creating bonds between Network Interface Cards with SDK

How can I bond one network interface to another using the SDK. I am try to perform the task in java but I'm unsure in what context I can find the utilities that will do this task. The task can be performed in the OVM UI after a host has been initialised. By navigating from the side bar Compute -> Hosts -> (Select Host) -> (Host tabs) Network Interfaces -> From here, click Setup Host Networks. In the pop up you can select a network interface and drag it to another to create a bond between them. How can I perform this step using the SDK. I am attempting to perform this in the context of a nicservice, found like this: systemService.hostsService().hostService(hostObject).nicservice(NICObject)).get().send().nic(); but I can't find any methods associated with the retrieved NIC or nicservice that seem relevant to my task.

[vdsm] Standard patch check broken by Black formatter for network stuff

OST: Failing migrations on el8

Hi, I looked at the failing migrations in OST on el8, when running basic-suite-master with https://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/103888/31. The migration fails even before started, when Vdsm tries to talk to the remote Vdsm and can't reach it. Automatic snapshots

Hello everyone, We run a large number of virtual desktops on RHEV and we use the snapshot mechanism occasionally. Would it be possible to create automatic snapshots when VM’s are started and when they are stopped? My gut feeling says this would be a bad idea, because taking snapshots does not guarantee anything, but I have the task of exploring the option. If needed, I would change source code to create something and contribute it. Currently I have taken a look at - the vdsm hook mechanism, but that seems to be aimed at the VM lifecycle, not operations like starting and stopping an instance. - the ovirt-agent hooks , but they also seem to be useful when migrating a VM The goal of the snapshot is to have a backup-backup, just handy when dealing with malfunctions inside a VM workstation, it does not have to be perfect. Maybe I can create scripts to enable functionality in a different (existing) place, but I am a bit reluctant to create unnecessary scripting because that creates admin overhead. Maybe from an architectural point of view automatic snapshots is just a plain wrong idea, not sure. What are your thoughts about this? With kind regards, Joost Evertse

Hey everyone, OST project is now enabled for patch gating. What is the meaning of this? 1. The gating process will start when Code-Review +2, CI +1 and Verified +1 labels are turned on. 2. Every patch before merging will have to pass the following suites: - *oVirt-master* *oVirt-4.3* basic_suite basic_suite upgrade-from-release upgrade-from-release upgrade-from-prevrelease 3. Patches should no longer be manually merged in OST, they will be merged automatically when passing the gate. *NOTE: *Maintainers are still able to merge manually, but it is not recommended if the gate is not passing. *NOTE:* For additional information regarding the gating I've sent FAQ mail - 'Patch Gating summary + FAQ' Regards, Ehud.

Ah... Never thought I can switch it to 'Auto'. Actually it makes sense - we can't be sure if all nodes in cluster are the same - like my case. Now all VMs are in Auto mode. I am currently setting up the Ovirt System Tests using the guide https://ovirt-system-tests.readthedocs.io/en/latest/general/running_tests/i… So we get to the run_suite.sh part. This calls a python script called put_host_image.py which tries to create a symlink to the current repo but hits an issue where the file (internal_repo/host_image) is said to not exist at the time. workaround for the lack of native el8 slaves in the CI

Hi all, we're trying to move vdsm tests to el8. AFAIK we don't have native el8 slaves in the CI yet, so our el8 stages run on el7 with el8 mocked. There are some issues with scripts setting up the env for storage tests - they are refusing to work on older kernel versions. I have an idea for a workaround - until now we were using 'host-distro: same' in our 'stdci.yaml'. I can see that this option can also take a value of 'better/newer' [1], but that won't work for el8. Could we possibly implement something like [2] ? That would allow us to i.e. define an el8 mocked env with 'host-distro: fc30' enforcing native fc30 host. I assume this would be a temporary workaround only, until we have native el8 slaves. Set host as SPM

System currently has 1 DC, 1 cluster, 2 active hosts in cluster and 1 domain. Host1 is SPM, through UI I can set Host2 to SPM, Host1 becomes Non-SPM host. Through the SDK I can use SpmBuilder spmBuilder = new SpmBuilder().priority(7); sysService.hostsService().hostService(host.id()).update().host(host().spm(spmBuilder)).send(); to update host SPM priority. I cannot find a way to use the SDK to change the Host to SPM mode directly, despite using spm().status in a similar manner as above for the priority. How can I achieve this? TIA

Hello all, good afternoon. I'm new here, my name is Wagner and I live in The Netherlands. I inherited an old 4.2 oVirt cluster and I'm in process of adding new CentOS hypervisors to it. Sadly this isn't working well due to a conflict in vdsm and sos. I did some research, and found this[1] on RedHat and also this thread[2] and this gerrit review[3]. Looks like the sos package now contains vdsm sos module and this needs to be removed on 4.2 version. Current sos package conflicts[4] with vdsm <= 4.30.17. The way forward (if this is accepted by you and CentOS) would be to release a new 4.2 version, and change the conflict on sos package to accept this new 4.2 vdsm version. I can help with pull requests, building packages (.src.rpm) or whatever. What you guys think about it? Retrieve cluster status using the SDK

Using the SDK how can I retrieve a clusters (network) status. I am able to retrieve a cluster object using code like this: Cluster cluster = sysService.clustersService().clusterService(DataCenterUtils.getClusterObjectFromName(sysService, DEFAULT_CLUSTER_NAME).id()).get().send().cluster(); However I cannot see any variables associated with this object type that relate to its Network Status. The information i'm referring to can be found on the UI after creating a custom network. Starting on the left panel Navigate to Network -> Networks -> Custom Network -> Clusters Tab

Quack, We do as a community provide help on the MLs and reply to JIRA tickets but there is no customer support as it is not a product but a community project. Historically, probably for some other purpose, support@ was created, but noone remembers why. Anyway, the alias redirected to postmaster so it was not very useful. There was also a ML which could not receive mails because of the alias but probably got noticed in the new ML UI when we migrated. Recently more people subscribed and posted requests using the UI. After discussing with the infra team, and to avoid confusion and unreplied requests on this channel, we decided to remove it. I thus unsubscribed people from the list so that they would notice it and then purged the list and alias. Regards. \_o<

I have managed to set a host SPM priority using SpmBuilder spmBuilder = new SpmBuilder().priority(7); sysService.hostsService().hostService(host.id()).update().host(host().spm(spmBuilder)).send(); However I cannot use similar code to set a Host to SPM. I currently have 2 active hosts in the same cluster in my system. Through the UI I can move SPM back and forth between them, but it is not working in the SDK. Any help appreciated.

Ovirt SDK: Problems retrieving the storage domain, status null when not in active or unattached state

Hi as the subject suggests I'm having problems reading the state of the Storage Domain when not in one of two states active or unattached. I am developing in Java an reading the state with the piece of code below StorageDomain sd = sysService.storageDomainsService().list() .search(storageDomainName) .send() .storageDomains() .get(0); sd.status(); Issue when deactivating In the UI it goes from active too inactive. When I recursively get the storage domain and check its status via the SDK the status never gets set to inactive, instead it goes from inactive to null and stays o a null state. Issue when activating In the UI it goes from unattached, locked then active. When I recursively get the storage domain and check its status via the SDK it goes from unattached null then active. As far as I can tell the only two states detected are unattached and active out of the ENUM of possible states listed below, of which non are null. I presume as I can check for two of the eight possible states, that means I am correct in my approach. ACTIVATING("activating"), ACTIVE("active"), DETACHING("detaching"), INACTIVE("inactive"), LOCKED("locked"), MAINTENANCE("maintenance"), MIXED("mixed"), PREPARING_FOR_MAINTENANCE("preparing_for_maintenance"), UNATTACHED("unattached"), UNKNOWN("unknown"), Any help would be much appreciated, on whether this is a potential known or unknown bug or whether I doing something wrong in my approach to retrieving the state of the domain. If i'm creating a a custom network on OVM using the UI, one of the options in the pop up is a check box labelled "VM network" for determining if I want a VM network. When using the SDK I am building network with a NetworkBuilder, but I cannot see any methods to toggle the VM network option. How do I create a custom Network with not VM role using the SDK? Can it be done with a NetworkBuilder?

For vdsm the issue is more tricky, since it requires same host/distro: 49 - tests-py37: 50 runtime-requirements: 51 host-distro: same So I think we need: - make slaves with newer kernel (fc29? fc30?) with the el8 mock env - add el8 slaves for running el8 mock with "host-distro: same" If we don't have a solution we need to disable el8 tests, or continue testing without storage, which will skip about 200 tests. Using python 3.6 on CentOS/RHEL 7.7

We are working now on porting ovirt-imageio to python 3. One nasty issue is having to ovirt-imageio-proxy, running on engine host on CentOS/RHEL >= 7.7 - with python 2.7. Supporting both python 2.7 and 3 is major pain (complicated build, new packages names) and we like to avoid this. We can switch to python 3 only, if we use the new python 3.6 package added in 7.7. Maybe we can do the same for otopi/engine-setup? Do you see any issue with this? Nir

Transfer Host during Cluster creation

Hi, I have a cluster, Cluster1, and a host, Host1. I have set Host1 to maintenance, and want create a second cluster, Cluster2, and place Host1 into Cluster2 and set it to active. Through the UI this is done by selecting the "Select Hosts" option during Cluster creation. How can I achieve the same through the SDK? TIA

Using the OVM SDK, is it possible for you check the statuses of details found on the clusters tab for a custom network. The details I mean can be found on the OVM UI: Network -> Networks -> *Select your custom network (default values) -> Clusters Tab -> Attached Network and Required Network. OST basic suite locally fails to provision *one* of the hosts

Hi, When trying to run OST basic suite locally, I'm reaching this error, which has me beyond puzzled. How can it provision *one* of the hosts, then fail for the other ? Anyone has any clues ? I've removed the lago / mock folder on /var/lib/, out of paranoia. CentOS 8 Mock is Available in STDCI

Hello All. We are happy to announce that CentOS 8 mock is now available for CI. As usual you will need to adjust your “automation” directory and use “el8” in “distros”. Then, “packages” and “repos” might need to be updated to accommodate CentOS changes. You can check the patch for “otopi” that was the first project onboarded there [1]. This effort is led by Galit (CCed), so you can reach her directly or use this list to reply with any issues. At this moment we are aware about unavailability on “pcc64le” and are working on it. As a next step we will also work on changing OST to run there, but it will not happen without oVirt packages build for “el8”. Thus you need to start transitioning your projects in CI now.
