Installing oVirt on RHEL vs CentOS Stream, Alma or Rocky Linux

I'm still struggling to get oVirt installed. It absolutely will not install on RHEL 8, the documentation here is flat out wrong: https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/installing_ovirt_as_a_standalone_manage… javapackages-tools is not a module that exists in RHEL 8. Apparently it's a CentOS PowerTools module. Since original CentOS no longer really exists either, does anyone have any opinions or experience with installing oVirt on any of: - CentOS Stream 8 - Alma Linux 8.5 - Rocky Linux Alma in particular looks like a straight replacement for old CentOS. How to list all snapshots?

Hello everyone! First, I would like to thank everyone involved in this wonderful project. I leave here my sincere thanks! Does anyone know if it is possible to list all snapshots automatically? It can be by ansible, python, shell... any way that helps to list them all without having to enter Domain by Domain. Thank you all!

Hi Team, when I want to commit the older snapshots I'm getting warning stating " Existing snapshots that were taken after this one will be erased.". is there any way we can retain the latest snapshots as is in the chain? I knew cloning and template export options are there to secure that latest snapshot data but these are will consume additional space in storage and take time.

Restart oVirt-Engine

Unable to access ovirt Admin Screen from ovirt Host

I've reinstalled ovirt 4.4 on my server remotely via cockpit terminal. I'm able to access the ovirt admin screen remotely from the laptop that I used for the install. However, using the same URL I'm unable to gain access to the admin screen. Following the instruction in the documentation I've modified the file: /etc/ovirt-engine/engine.conf.d/99-custom-sso-setup.conf, to reflect the DNS name and I enter in the IP address. But I'm still unable to access the screen from the server console. What else needs to change in order to gain access from the server console? Thanks

SPM and Task error ...

Hi all, my ovirt cluster has got 3 Hypervisors runnig Centos 7.5.1804 vdsm is 4.20.39.1-1.el7, ovirt engine is 4.2.4.5-1.el7, the storage systems are HP MSA P2000 and 2050 (fibre channel). I need to stop one of the hypervisors for maintenance but this system is the storage pool manager. For this reason I decided to manually activate SPM in one of the other nodes but this operation is not successful. oVirt networks

Dear all, Ineed your help to understand how to configure the network of a new oVirt cluster. Mynew system will have a 4.3 engine thatruns in a virtual machine, andsome Dell R7525 AMD EPYC hypervisors, eachholding two 4-port PCI network cards. These servers will have node-ovirt image again in version 4.3. As for the network, there are two HPE Aruba 2540G, non-stackable, with 24 1Gbs ports and 2 10Gbs uplinks to the star center. This is a simplified scheme: My goal is to make the most of the server's 8 ethernet interfaces to have both reliability and maximum possible throughput. This cluster will have two virtual networks, one forovirt management and one for the traffic of individual virtual machines. With that said here's what my idea is. I would like to have two links aggregated by 4Gbs, one for ovrtmgt and the other for vmnet. With the ovirt web interface I can createan active-passive "Mode 1" bond, but this won'tallow me to go beyond 1Gbs. Alternatively I could create a "Mode 4" bond 802.3ad but unfortunately the switches are not stacked and therefore not even this solution applies. This is an example with active passive configuration: Can you tell me if ovirt can generate//nested bonds? Or do you have other solutions ? Thanks a lot ! Hi. I have created a new storage domain (data domain, storage type nfs) to use it to upload iso images. I have so uploaded a new iso and then attach the iso to a new vm. But when I try to boot the vm I obtain this error: booting from dvd/cd... boot failed: could not read from cdrom (code 0005) no bootable device The iso file has been uploaded with success in the data storage domain and so the vm lets my attach the iso to the vm in the boot settings. Can you help me? Thank you

Running oVirt 4.4.5 VM cannot migrate between hosts. vdsm.log contains the following error: libvirt.libvirtError: operation failed: Failed to connect to remote libvirt URI qemu+tls://ovhost01.local/system: authentication failed: Failed to verify peer's certificate Certificates on hosts was renewed some time ago. How this issue can be fixed ? Thank you.

How to re-enroll (or renew) host certificates for a single-host hosted-engine deployment?

Hi, I've got a single-host hosted-engine deployment that I originally installed with 4.0 and have upgraded over the years to 4.3.10. I and some of my users have upgraded remote-viewer and now I get an error when I try to view the console of my VMs: (remote-viewer:8252): Spice-WARNING **: 11:30:41.806: ../subprojects/spice-common/common/ssl_verify.c:477:openssl_verify: Error in server certificate verification: CA signature digest algorithm too weak (num=68:depth0:/O=<My Org Name>/CN=<Host's Name>) I am 99.99% sure this is because the old certs use SHA1. I reran engine-setup on the engine and it asked me if I wanted to renew the PKI, and I answered yes. This replaced many[1] of the certificates in /etc/pki/ovirt-engine/certs on the engine, but it did not update the Host's certificate. All the documentation I've seen says that to refresh this certificate I need to put the host into maintenance mode and then re-enroll.. However I cannot do that, because this is a single-host system so I cannot put the host in local mode -- there is no place to migrate the VMs (let alone the Engine VM). So.... Is there a command-line way to re-enroll manually and update the host certs? Or some other way to get all the leftover certs renewed? 4.5.4 with Ceph only storage

Hey ... A long story short ... I have an existing Red Hat Virt / Gluster hyperconverged solution that I am moving away from. I have an existing Ceph cluster that I primarily use for OpenStack and a small requirement for S3 via RGW. I'm planning to build a new oVirt 4.5.4 cluster on RHEL9 using Ceph for all storage requirements. I've read many online articles on oVirt and Ceph, and they all seem to use the Ceph iSCSI gateway, which is now in maintenance, so I'm not real keen to commit to iSCSI. So my question is, IS there any reason I cannot use CephFS for both hosted-engine and as a data storage domain? I'm currently running Ceph Pacific FWIW. Cheers

Changing disk QoS causes segfault with IO-Threads enabled (oVirt 4.3.0.4-1.el7)

We recently upgraded to 4.3.0 and have found that when changing disk QoS settings on VMs whilst IO-Threads is enabled causes them to segfault and the VM to reboot. We've been able to replicate this across several VMs. VMs with IO-Threads disabled/turned off do not segfault when changing the QoS. Cannot restart ovirt after massive failure.

Hello all, During the night, one of my (smaller) setups, a single node self hosted engine (localhost NFS) crashed due to what-looks-like a massive disk failure (Software RAID6, with 10 drives + spare). After a reboot, I let the RAID resync with a fresh drive) and went on to start oVirt. However, no such luck. Two issues: 1. ovirt-ha-broker fails due to broken hosted engine state (log attached). 2. ovirt-ha-agent fails due to network test (tcp) even though both remote-host and DNS servers are active. (log attached). Two questions: 1. Can I somehow force the agent to disable the network liveliness test? 2. Can I somehow force the broker to rebuild / fix the hosted engine state? - Gilboa

Please, Please Help - New oVirt Install/Deployment Failing - "Host is not up..."

Hi Everyone, Could someone please help me - I've been trying to do an install of oVirt for *weeks* (including false starts and self-inflicted wounds/errors) and it is still not working. My setup: - oVirt v4.5.3 - A brand new fresh vanilla install of RockyLinux 8.6 - all working AOK - 2*NICs in a bond (802.3ad) with a couple of sub-Interfaces/VLANs - all working AOK - All relevant IPv4 Address in DNS with Reverse Lookups - all working AOK - All relevant IPv4 Address in "/etc/hosts" file - all working AOK - IPv6 (using "method=auto" in the interface config file) enabled on the relevant sub-Interface/VLAN - I'm not using IPv6 on the network, only IPv4, but I'm trying to cover all the bases. - All relevant Ports (as per the oVirt documentation) set up on the firewall - ie firewall-cmd --add-service={{ libvirt-tls | ovirt-imageio | ovirt-vmconsole | vdsm }} - All the relevant Repositories installed (ie RockyLinux BaseOS, AppStream, & PowerTools, and the EPEL, plus the ones from the oVirt documentation) I have followed the oVirt documentation (including the special RHEL-instructions and RockyLinux-instructions) to the letter - no deviations, no special settings, exactly as they are written. All the dnf installs, etc, went off without a hitch, including the "dnf install centos-release-ovirt45", "dnf install ovirt-engine-appliance", and "dnf install ovirt-hosted-engine-setup" - no errors anywhere. I used "--ansible-extra-vars=he_offline_deployment=true" because without that flag I was getting "DNF timout" issues (see my previous post `Local (Deployment) VM Can't Reach "centos-ceph-pacific" Repo`). I answer the defaults to all of questions the script asked, or entered the deployment-relevant answers where appropriate. In doing this I double-checked every answer before hitting <Enter>. Everything progressed smoothly until the deployment reached the "Wait for the host to be up" task... which then hung for more than 30 minutes before failing. From the ovirt-hosted-engine-setup... log file: - 2022-10-20 17:54:26,285+1100 ERROR otopi.ovirt_hosted_engine_setup.ansible_utils ansible_utils._process_output:113 fatal: [localhost]: FAILED! => {"changed": false, "msg": "Host is not up, please check logs, perhaps also on the engine machine"} I checked the following log files and found all of the relevant ERROR lines, then checked several 10s of proceeding and succeeding lines trying to determine what was going wrong, but I could not determine anything. - ovirt-hosted-engine-setup... - ovirt-hosted-engine-setup-ansible-bootstrap_local_vm... - ovirt-hosted-engine-setup-ansible-final_clean... - not really relevant, I believe I can include the log files (or the relevant parts of the log files) if people want - but that are very large: several 100 kilobytes each. I also googled "oVirt Host is not up" and found several entries, but after reading them all the most relevant seems to be a thread from these mailing list: `Install of RHV 4.4 failing - "Host is not up, please check logs, perhaps also on the engine machine"` - but this seems to be talking about an upgrade and I didn't gleam anything useful from it - I could, of course, be wrong about that. So my questions are: - Where else should I be looking (ie other log files, etc, and possible where to find them)? - Does anyone have any idea why this isn't working? - Does anyone have a work-around (including a completely manual process to get things working - I don't mind working in the CLI with virsh, etc)? - What am I doing wrong? Unable to install oVirt on RHEL7.5

Grafana - Origin Not Allowed

oVirt 4.5.0.8-1.el8 I tried to connect to grafana via the monitoring portal link from the dash and all panels are failing to display any data with varying error messages, but all include 'Origin Not Allowed' I navigated to Data Sources and ran a test on the PostgreSQL connection (localhost) which threw the same Origin Not Allowed error message. Any suggestions?

After upgrading the engine from 4.4.9 to 4.4.10, and then upgrading one host, any attempt to migrate a VM to that host or start a VM on that host results in the following error: Number of hotpluggable cpus requested (16) exceeds the maximum cpus supported by KVM (8) While the version of qemu is the same across hosts, ( qemu-kvm-6.0.0-33.el8s.x86_64), I traced the difference to the upgraded kernel on the new host. I have always run elrepo's kernel-ml on these hosts to support bcache which RHEL's kernel doesn't support. The working hosts still run kernel-ml-5.15.12. The upgraded host ran kernel-ml-5.17.0. In case anyone else runs kernel-ml, have you run into this issue? Does anyone know why KVM's KVM_CAP_MAX_VCPUS value is lowered on the new kernel? Does anyone know how to query the KVM capabilities from userspace without writing a program leveraging kvm_ioctl()'s? Related to this, it seems that ovirt and/or libvirtd always runs qmu-kvm with an -smp argument of "maxcpus=16". This causes qemu's built-in check to fail on the new kernel which is supporting max_vpus of 8. Why does ovirt always request maxcpus=16? Host Reboot Timeout of 10 Minutes

I'm working in a group that maintains a large oVirt setup based on 4.4.1 which works very well. We are afraid of upgrading and prefer setting up a new installation and gradually enlist the hosts one by one into the new installation. We have tried 4.4.10 and 4.5.1 - 4.5.4 based on CentOS Stream 8, Rocky 8, Alma Linux 9.1 with various problems. Worst was the problem that the rpm db ended up in a catch-22 state. Using Alma Linux 9.1 and current oVirt 4.5.4 seems promising as no rpm problems are present after installation. We have only one nuisance left which we have seen in all installation attempts we have made since 4.4.10. When rebooting a host it takes 10 minutes before it's activated again. In 4.4.1 the hosts are activated a few seconds after they have booted up. Public logical network is attached in only 2 nodes and failing to attach on the 3rd node with the below error Invalid operation, out-of-sync network 'public' can only be detached. We have a situation where nodes are left in Unassigned state. SSL certificate was expired and even after cert update the nodes are not coming out of Unassigned state. Its not even going in maintenance mode as there are VMs on it (although they are not responding right now). Anyway we can remove the node from HE and add it back?

To whom it may concern I have been using oVirt in an HCI environment for over 5 years. The reason why I chose oVirt (most attractive point of oVirt for me) was that it is easy to build an HCI environment with GUI deployment. Hi, i'm planing to upgrade our production environment from oVirt 4.3 to 4.4. So i do need a fresh oVirt 4.3 installation to test the procedure before doing it in production. The command line deploy script can't handle network interfaces correctly. If i use either a single NIC oder a bond (active/passive) i get the error message "The selected network interface is not valid". If i predefine the management bridge to a running state, the deploy process goes on, but fails to activate the added host and removes the already running engine vm. The deploy process fails to synchronize the existing working network configuration with the engine configuration. I can already log in to the engine GUI and see, that the bridge "ovirtmgmt" needs to be assigned to the bonding IF, but i'm not fast enough to do so, because the deployment process ist already shutting down and erasing the vm. I do see the following ways to succeed: 1. make the depoyment process accept the given interfaces (maybe ignore errors) 2. make the deploy process wait for me to take necessary actions before checking the engine Do anyone know, how to achieve this? All i need is a running engine on hosted_storage... any other issues i can fix later. Another idea is to use one of the destined hosts as a bare metal engine, add hosts, backup the engine and use that backup for a hosted engine restore deploy, since the deploy script asks to wait after local vm is ready, but only if i do a recovery deploy. Any suggestions?

Changing the Cluster Compatibility Version in hyperconverged environment

Hi! I'm sorry if it is a noob question but it is very important for me. We are researching oVirt in our company and hope to use existing environment where there's no SAN/NAS solution. Just a bunch of servers. We were able to set up a hyperconverged installation with oVirt 4.4 a while ago and now I'm resuming research and trying to upgrade it to 4.5. I was able to upgrade HE and Hosts. What's left is to upgrade Cluster Compatibility Version from 4.5 to 4.7. I don't seem to find a way to do it as when I try to Edit cluster I get this error: "Cluster Compatibility Version". Upgrade Guide on https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/upgrade_guide/ does not have entries for hyperconverged set up. So I don't know where to look for information on this topic. Is it possible to achieve my goal at all? Can "frozen" Cluster Compatibility Version cause problems in the long run? I can rebuild the whole setup now when it is still being reviewed and planed. But if we start using it actively it won't be possible. I'm afraid that this could be a show-stopper in the long run. Thanks in advance!

New Ovirt installation on existing Ovirt

Hi! I have a strange idea - I try to create a small Ovirt test lab on my existing Ovirt infrastructure. I have two real Ovirt hosts: host01 - 192.168.1.10/24, GW 192.168.1.1 host02 - 192.168.1.11/24, GW 192.168.1.1 I created VM on which I want to install new Ovirt instance: v_host01 - 192.168.1.100, checked Pass-Through Host CPU. During deployment hosted engine on v_host01 (lets say v_he - 192.168.1.110), Ovirt creates temporary bridge with random IP and hosted engine VM can comunicate through that bridge. After successful deployment this HE VM has assigned static IP 192.168.1.110. And now communication is possible only between v_host01 and v_he... I can't reach network from v_he further than v_host01 and can't reach v_he from hosts other than v_host01. Seems than bridge on v_host01, created during deployment doesn't want to forward traffik... Do you have any ideas what should I check? Regards!

I tried to use: engine-setup --reconfigure-optional-components after removing: - ovirt_engine_history - set to "False" OVESETUP_DWH_CORE/enable=bool:True OVESETUP_GRAFANA_CORE/enable=bool:True in /etc/ovirt-engine-setup.conf.d/20-setup-ovirt-post.conf (obviously all in "Global Maintenance") currently I have a system where I have an initialized ovirt_engine_history but no engine is writing in it. I tried to follow (in some manner): https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/data_warehouse_guide/ In the ovirt engine's log there is no exception... so I cannot address the issue. Good night I am configuring the disaster recovery with the following environment Ovirt 4.4.10 Site A An external manager A hypervisor server Site B An external manager A hypervisor server *Mons are being replicated from one storage to another with the conditions mentioned in the active passive guide. In the File disaster_recovery_vars.yml **** The mapping of the virtual machines is carried out, one of these has direct luns When I execute the failover the virtual machines are not importing in the secondary site. If I comment on the mapping of the direct luns, it is possible to import the virtual machines and they remain working correctly. NOTE: The direct lun that the vm has is without format or partition, since I am in the testing phase. Can you please give me ideas of what to check.

Hosted-Engine Down VSDM Cert Expired

Hey all, I'm looking to get a bit of guidance here. As the subject suggests, we have a hosted-engine ovirt cluster. I ran into an issue trying to login to the web interface. I was seeing errors about certificate expiration, although I didn't know what cert it was referring to at the time. I ssh'd to the hosted-engine and restarted it. However, once it shutdown, it was unable to start again. What I've discovered so far is that the hosted-engine is currently residing on node 33 (storage is on a gluster volume) and the vdsm certificate for that node has expired. There are three nodes in total, and two of them have expired certs. However, one of them has a valid cert still. I'm able to run vdsm-client commands on that node. Although I haven't done anything with that yet other than to verify that I'm able to do some of the Host get* commands successfully. I'm wondering if it is possible to "pull" the hosted-engine onto this host and fire it back up there. Thanks in advance for your help! Updating the DNS configuration for the Hosted Engine

Hi All, I've had a look through the documentation and not been able to find any up to date information on how to do this. We've now built a permanent DNS solution and need to update the Hosted Engine DNS server details. Luckily, I have managed to update the hosts configuration using the Data Center Settings so it's just the Hosted Engine to complete. Any advice on where should I update? I didn't want to update the if config file, as I assumed it's controlled by ansible somewhere! Kind Regards, Nathan

Ovirt 4.4.10 AD Integration Error

I am dong AD integration of the Ovirt 4.4 manager. The Insecure method with plain text password saved in /etc/ovirt-engine/aaa/uat.xxxx.com.properties works fine. I am using ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-ldap-setup utility However this is a hard coding method and insecure way. Hence I wanted to use starttls with PEM encoded certificate file. oVirt + TrueNAS: Unable to create iSCSI domain - I am missing something obvious

Good morning folks, and thank you in advance. I am working on migrating my oVirt backing store from NFS to iSCSI. *oVirt Environment:* oVirt Open Virtualization Manager Software Version:4.4.4.7-1.el8 *TrueNAS environment:* FreeBSD truenas.local 12.2-RELEASE-p11 75566f060d4(HEAD) TRUENAS amd64 The iSCSI share is on a TrueNAS server, exposed to user VDSM and group 36. oVirt sees the targeted share, but is unable to make use of it. The latest issue is "Error while executing action New SAN Storage Domain: Volume Group block size error, please check your Volume Group configuration, Supported block size is 512 bytes." As near as I can tell, oVirt does not support any block size other than 512 bytes, while TrueNAS's smallest OOB block size is 4k. I know that oVirt on TrueNAS is a common configuration, so I expect I am missing something really obvious here, probably a TrueNAS configuration needed to make TrueNAS work with 512 byte blocks. Dear List, we upgraded our OVirt 4.4.9 Infrastructure (engine and hosts) to latest available 4.4.10.x. Engine shows "4.4.10.7-1.el8" on Login Page Hosts are based on ovirt-node-ng (nodectl info outputs ovirt-node-ng-4.4.10.2-0.20220303.0) When we migrate VM's we see VM's dying short after migration with below errors also printed to console. We are only able to shutdown these VM's (PowerOff) and start them up again. Mostly they are started again on the Host that was target of migration and they run without issues then. All Servers are EPYC based, but different CPU Versions. All hosts are in a single "Cluster", CPU Type is "Secure AMD EPYC". With 4.4.8 and 4.4.9 we had no problems migrating VM's between hosts. Cluster is: 2 Hosts: AMD EPYC 7401P 24-Core Processor 1 Hosts: AMD EPYC 7402P 24-Core Processor 7 Hosts: AMD EPYC 7502P 32-Core Processor What can we do ? As said, we didn't see such problems for 1 year running 4.4.8.x and 4.4.9.x. Hello, Yesterday I had to remove the brick of my first server (HCI with 3 servers) for maintenance and recover hard disks. 3 servers with 4 disks per server in raid5. 1 brick per server i did : gluster volume remove-brick data replica 2 ovnode1s.telecom.lan:/gluster_bricks/datassd/datassd force After deleting the brick, I had 8 unsynced entries present and this morning I have 6. What should I do to resolve my unsynced ? I would like to copy data from that hosted engine and reverse to another hosted-engine storage (I will try NFS). Bug in the engine-backup script when no attached TTY -- Easy fix

The output() function. This line: printf "%s\n" "${m}" It will fail if there is no attached TTY, which will set the exit code to 1, which in turn will trigger the cleanup() function notifying the engine that the backup failed. This ironically happens when it should be writing "Done." and exiting after a successful backup. Fix I used was to change it to: printf "%s\n" "${m}" >> "${LOG}" You can't assume attached TTY since a lot of people like me want to run this as part of a pre/post script to an automated backup program.

Hosted Engine No Longer Has IP Address - Help!

Hi Guys, I've gone and shot myself in the foot - and I'm looking for some first-aid. I've managed to remove the IP Address of the oVirt Self-Hosted Engine and so have lost contact with it (don't ask how - let's just say I f*cked-up). I *think* its still running, I've got it set to DHCP, and I've got access to the Host its running on, so my question(s) is: - (The preferred method) How can I re-establish (console?) contact - I'm thinking via the Host Server and some kvm-commands, so I can issue a `dhclient` command - (The most drastic) How can I get it to reboot ie is there a command / command sequence to do this Any help would be appreciated. Preferred way to give customer access to VMs

Hi. Just for an introduction, I'm a junior staff working on a way to deploy a KVM cluster to provision VMs to our customer. Before this, we're using VMware ESXi and connect it to OpenNebula as the console that we give to customers. We're moving to KVM due to VMware licensing cost. I've successfully deployed an oVirt cluster and currently able to access it remotely via a VPN that I've setup on a virtualized pfSense VM inside the cluster. My question is, what is the best way to give customer console access to the VMs that we provisioned for them? Surely we doesn't want to give them access to our VPN for security reasons. I can't seems to find a way to connect OpenNebula with oVirt and I do believe it isn't possible since both are basically virtualization manager, managing the KVM instances. Hi, the following error message is periodically logged to engine.log when oVirt tries to import the Hosted Engine Storage Domain (NFS): Validation of action 'AddExistingFileStorageDomain' failed for user SYSTEM. Reasons: VAR__TYPE__STORAGE__DOMAIN,VAR__ACTION__ADD,ERROR_CANNOT_ADD_EXISTING_STORAGE_DOMAIN_CONNECTION_DATA_ILLEGAL I've redeployed my Engine VM while upgrading to oVirt 4.5. Unfortunately, the Engine VM and Hosted Engine Storage Domain are both missing from the oVirt GUI and oVirt is unable to import them apparently. (FWIW, there are several other Storage Domains already configured that work perfectly fine.) Is there any way to manually add the Hosted Engine Storage Domain? I'm also fine with adding the entry manually to the PostgreSQL database if this would be feasible. (Just point me to the right direction so I don't mess up my oVirt setup.) Sparsifying VM disk not working

Hello, i cannot get sparsifying to work in lastest oVirt 4.5.4 release (not that i have tried with a previous release) I have two Data domains connected to oVirt using iSCSI & NFS. I created 2 testvm's and 50GB thin provisioned qcow2 disks for each, made some temp files, remove them and tried to sparsify, but it does not work. Error i am getting is: Error while executing action: Cannot sparsify Virtual Disk. Sparsifying is not supported for QCOW2 disk testvm1_Disk1. In virtual disk options i have enable, Bootable, incremental back and for one of the images i enable discard for testing purposes. What am i doing wrong?

Hi, We're trying to launch the VM with PosixFS Storage and recently we've experienced an error while launching. We are successfully uploading the image with PosixFS storage in Storage -> Disks. After upload, we get the status of image upload as illegal, then we are executing the below command on management-engine, and the status changes to OK. `/usr/share/ovirt-engine/setup/dbutils/unlock_entity.sh -t all` Now, When we are creating VM with the same image. Slightly confused by KeyCloak

Hi there, We've decided to use oVirt for our school datacenter and I'm setting up a PoC to show it could work for our needs. So far, I've managed to deploy a single hosted engine to iSCSI by using the hosted-engine deploy script. So far, so good, I can create VMs, I've had a few problems, but nothing I couldn't figure out. What got me confused is the KeyCloak link with oVirt. My goal is to allow students to register to oVirt so that they can spin up VMs, images, and so on. I've created a group in KeyCloak named "ovirt-student" that is automatically assigned to new users. I have also linked oVirt to this group by going into the engine web UI and adding the group to oVirt's group list. I have given system permissions to the ovirt-student group such as VMCreator. I've then tried to connect to a dummy user called "test". My results are as follows : - The user does not seem to have the correct rights as it cannot create new VMs in the VM portal; - The admin interface does not suggest the user is a part of the ovirt-student group; However, when I add the test user to the ovirt-administrator group, no problem at all, the user is an admin, alright. My question is as follows : what do I need to do so that the groups in KeyCloak and oVirt are synced ? Thanks a lot, TP

Virt-Viewer fullscreen multi-monitor dragging stops at edge

In linux, using virt-viewer to connect to a windows vm in fullscreen with multiple monitors I can not drag windows across monitors. The mouse stops at the edge. I have to release the mouse, then click and drag the window again. I don't have that issue using windows as the client to connect to the vm. Anybody else have this issue?

Hi Guys Happy New Year. We recently upgraded our oVirt version from 4.3 to 4.4. We have noticed floppy is removed in run once mode. So We are unable to proceed with Automated customisation(Assigning hostname, IP address and setting initial login creds) of Windows VM's. Anyone tried sysprep without floppy. We are using oVirt Ansible module for provisioning the VM and it uses a custom xml template(jinja2) for OS customization. Thanks in Advance.

Hi team, I am new to ovirt. I have setup a self hosted ovirt engine with version 4.4. I am able to create a POSIX compliant FS storage domain type. While creating the Storage domain, at the path I am passing all the three nodes in the ceph cluster: eg. ``` [abcd:abcd:abcd::23],[abcd:abcd:abcd::22],[abcd:abcd:abcd::21]:6789:/volumes/kush/threetest/cb8a69c4-9c9a-4a2d-9a4a-7b9a5ff14c74 ``` When I am doing this, I am not able to create a disk in the domain. Hi, When starting my ovirt installation again ovirt was not working and after some troubleshooting it seemed that some certs where expired. So I basically did this redhat solution: https://access.redhat.com/solutions/6964632 And afterwards I had this in the UI: sun.security.validator.validatorexception: pkix path validation failed So tried this: https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/thread/ZI5WNU6OB6FZMQ… Now I do get to the ovirt UI however the datacenter and storage is not coming up. I see in the events: VDSM myhost.example.local command Get Host Capabilities failed: Received fatal alert: certificate_expired On the vdsmd side on the host I see: ERROR ssl handshake: SSLError, address: ::ffff:192.168.1.109 I don't know to which service it tries to connect and so what certificate is expired or how to replace it. I just want to get the ovirt back up and running properly so I can start my VMs. Thanks in advance.

Hi all I'm trying to dump out a list of all tags and the VMs attached. I need to do this as I wrote an Ansible task to attach some VMs to some tags and ended up removing other VMs from these tags which caused some issues. The second question is that if the allocated 100G is also full, how should I expand it? I can’t expand it using wei ui

Importing ubuntu cloud image's failing

Hi Folks! TL;DR: Anyone else in the user group here also using ubuntu cloud images? Have you had any luck? I finally completed the 4.5.4 upgrade and started down the next series of steps to deploy some newer ubuntu images, however the import of the cloud image OVA's doesnt function or at least not as it has previously, using the same method as the person here: https://medium.com/@dsykes012/how-to-import-an-ova-into-ovirt-4-4-2925cd89d… and im using the Ubuntu Lunar image here: https://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/lunar/current/lunar-server-cloudimg-amd64.o… The UI eventually informs me: "Failed to import Vm ubuntu-lunar-23.04-cloudimg-20221227 to Data Center Default, Cluster Default" Then, looking into this on the hypervisor that was performing the task, I found the import log which didnt seem to give me an indication of an obvious failure. (ill attach the log here somehow soon) -Joel
