I'm getting the feeling I'm not alone in this, authoring and publishing a wiki page isn't as used to be for long time. I want to suggest a bit lighter workflow: 1. Everyone can merge their page - (it's a wiki) Same as with (public and open) code, no one has the motivation to publish a badly written wiki page under their name. True, it can have an impact, but not as with broken code 2. Use Page-Status marker The author first merges the draft. Its now out there and should be updated as time goes and its status is DRAFT. Maintainers will come later and after review would change the status to PUBLISH. That could be a header in on the page: --- page status: DRAFT/PUBLISH --- Simple I think, and should work.

Update on Domain XML created by the engine

Hi All, Yesterday we merged the class LibvirtVmXmlBuilder in ovirt-engine. It does not include the conversion of all the previously supported VM properties (e.g., payload devices, OVS stuff, cinder disks - any help would be appreciated btw) or covers all flows (e.g., run once) yet and there is surely a place for improvement, but in its current state LibvirtVmXmlBuilder is able to generate a libvirt's domxml on the engine side for many typical VMs in our development environment. If you happen to start working on a change that involves changing something in the domxml, please do it by modifying this class. Our plan is to deprecate the VM info map/dictionary soon. Let me try to motivate you by example: Let's say that you want to add support for a property of a disk called 'discard'. In 4.1: You had to patch VmInfoBuilderImpl to add another element to the VM info map and then modify VDSM to use it when encoding the Disk device into XML. Now: You need to patch LibvirtVmXmlBuilder so the 'discard' property would be set on the disk device element in the generated XML. We're one week after initial report that vdsm is missing in fc24 repository for master. We have automation broken due to this. Please restore vdsm builder for fc24 master, it's affecting CI for hosted-engine, ovirt-release, and possibly other projects... Hi, we've update vdsm package within oVirt 4.1.0 Second Release Candidate fixing: Bug 1416112 - virt-v2v: Import from VMware, Xen and KVM failed with "OSError: [Errno 9] Bad file descriptor" (workaround: upgrade python-cpopen) Being the fix just forcing Requires: python-cpopen >= 1.5 instead of Requires: python-cpopen >= 1.4 and being python-cpopen >= 1.5 already availablein RC2, GA shouldn't have any delay. [VDSM] WARNING: mailbox tests timeout

Hi all, I have seen the new storage mailbox test failing with a timeout twice. If you see this in your builds, please complain here. I downgraded jdk and it did not help. My dnf says when I attempt to install as in the link: No package nss-3.27.0-1.1.fc25.x86_64 available. No package nss-softokn-3.27.0-1.0.fc25.x86_64 available. No package nss-softokn-freebl-3.27.0-1.0.fc25.x86_64 available. No package nss-sysinit-3.27.0-1.1.fc25.x86_64 available. No package nss-tools-3.27.0-1.1.fc25.x86_64 available. No package nss-util-3.27.0-1.0.fc25.x86_64 available. python-dateutil required for engine development environment

Hi, 2 days ago we have merged [1], which adds python-dateutil as a required package. Missing vdsm snapshots for Fedoras

Hi all, there are no vdsm packages in http://resources.ovirt.org/pub/ovirt-master-snapshot/rpm/fc24/x86_64/ and in http://resources.ovirt.org/pub/ovirt-master-snapshot/rpm/fc25/x86_64/ but there are vdsm packages in corresponding EL directories. Is it intentional? Do we still provide ovirt vdsm snapshots? Thanks Jakub

Redundant stomp connection for SPM

For each SPM host the engine creates a different stomp connection (See JsonRpcIIrsServer.java) . This also means another client connection to maintain on the SPM machine. What is the reason we still have it and what does it guarantee? Please add any info here prior to opening a bug to remove it for 4.2.

Thread pools and ManageExecutorService

Java EE 7 included ManageExecutorService in its spec. Using Wildfly (as certified EE 7 container) we can use it to replace our own ThreadPoolUtil implementation and (possibly) Quarz usage. Managed executor service is a thread pool resource, manage by the container and can be controlled via JMX or the startup ovirt-egine.xml.in facility. This means that it could be tweaked at runtime as well. The service has configured thread factory and queue as well, all described by the xml In the engine we are using mutli pools, with little to no capabilities of tweaking them - ThreadPoolUtil - our general threading facade - SchedulerThreadPool - the pool we create to pass to quarz - HostUpdatesCheckerService.java - internal pool - CommandExecutor - coco's pool EE gave us a standard way to handle threads, with runtime configuration and ability to @inject it into the code, this means once again less code with using something the platform already supplies with real tuninig abilities. I know #infra has an item quarts, this should be considered as well. Following this thread, if there is no suitable bug already, I'll open one for this. FYI, The infra team has recently added a new feature for the manual OST jobs, published in recent oVirt blog [1], Which hopefully will help developers have more control over running OST on open patches. The new feature allows anyone to choose which oVirt repo the job should use as 'base repo', the options are: *latest_tested*: will install the latest rpms that passed the ci. ( a.k.a experimental latest.tested ) *latest_release*: will install the last stable release. Good morning Engine developers, As of this morning, oVirt Engine has migrated to the next generation of Mockito, specifically, the latest available version - 2.6.5 (well, the latest version at the time this email was issued. Their z-stream are as small as a single patch, and thus REALLY fast). First of all - a big shout-out to everyone who took the time to review and comment on this patch series. Why did we do this? 1. The Mockito 1.x generation is no longer supported, and we want to work with a live, maintained, library. 2. Support for Java 8 syntax. 3. Improved generics support, lending to cleaner code. 4. Improved performance. Unfortunately(?), the Mockito 2.x generation isn't 100% backwards compatible. Here are the main changes you need to know about. **"Sneaky" Behavior Changes:** 1. In Mockito 1.x, stubbing a mock and then not using this recorded behavior was not an issue (besides the fact that you're probably writing unused code :-)). In Mokcito 2.x, by default, having unused stubbing will fail your test. Usually, the best course of action is to remove these useless stubbings (as I've done for most of the occurrences in the code). If this isn't easily possible (e.g., these stubbings are inherited from a base class), or if removing them would actually make the test less easy to follow, you can use the org.mockito.junit.MockitoJUnitRunner.Silent runner to revert to Mockito 1.x's behavior. 2. In Mockito 1.x, any(Class) also matches nulls (e.g., any(SomeClass.class) would match any instance of SomeClass or null). In Mockito 2.x, any(Class) *no longer matches nulls*. In order to also match nulls you could use any() or nullable(Class). **Code Changes** 1. Mockito 2.x's ArgumentMatcher no longer extend Hamcrest's Matcher, and was in fact converted to a [functional] interface. Beyond the simple change of using "implements" instead of "extends", this also means you can write much cleaner code and have your matchers as anonymous lambdas. If you still want to use a Hamcrest matcher for your stubbing, you can use org.mockito.hamcrest.MockitoHamcrest#argThat. 2. anyListOf/anySetOf/anyCollectionOf/anyMapOf are now deprecated and should not be used (well, at least mostly - see below). Their counterparts, anyList/anySet/anyCollection/anyMap no longer return raw types, but generalized ones. Utilizing Java 8's type inference, Mockito 2.x allows you to use the simpler versions without getting unchecked assignments warnings. Note that this capability depends on Java's language level, so frontend projects that still use Java 7 will have to use the deprecated versions, unfortunately. I've already applied this change to the entire backend, but you should note it when writing new patches. 3. anyObject() is deprecated - just use any() instead. Hi Tal, what describe values in column 'actual_size' of view 'all_disks_for_vms'? I noticed very strange behavior of values in this column: It's * 0 for 'thin-provisioned' disk of VM in cluster 4.1 * 2147487744 for 'preallocated' 2GB disk of VM in cluster 4.1 * 0 for 'thin-provisioned' disk of VM in cluster 4.0 * 0 for 'preallocated' disk of VM in cluster 4.0 * 0 for disk of template that was created by importing glance image as template to 4.0 cluster * 200704 for disk of template that was created by importing 12 MB glance image as template to 4.1 cluster * 0 for disk of template that was created by importing glance image as template to 4.0 cluster * 0 for disk of template of VM with preallocated disk in 4.1 cluster * 0 for disk of template of VM with preallocated disk in 4.0 cluster How is the value supposed to be computed? Is there any way to suggest new packages be baked into the openstack glance images? Ie. the ovirt-guest-agent is missing from the atomic images, and pretty tough to install given that gcc, make, yum, and pretty much everything else is gone.

Was there any change in this area lately? Hi Juan, from time to time I'd like the REST doc to be available on some public site. It would allow us to * check the documentation without searching for running engine * be able to easily link documentations in irc/mails * link rest doc from ovirt.org site doc Recently I've also heard similar request from other guys (cc-ed). Would it be possible to for example publish generated doc of merged patches of ovirt-engine-api-model project? Maybe github project pages [1] of project mirror [2] could be used for hosting. We checked this with did and postgres connection error is not an error (although it prints stacktrace... cannot we not print stacktraces, please, for antyhing that we handle in code... it is really confusing when you need to find the root cause). If you're a maintainer for any of the projects included in oVirt distribution and you have changes in your package ready to be released please: - bump version and release to be GA ready - tag your release within git (implies a GitHub Release to be automatically created) - build your packages within jenkins / koji / copr / whatever - verify all bugs on MODIFIED have target release and target milestone set. - add your builds to releng-tools/releases/ovirt-4.1.0_rc1.conf within releng-tools project Thanks in advance, Lev Veyde

Hi After i am installing ovirt-guest-agent-common shutdown of a VM takes about 90 seconds instead of 30 seconds without the agent. I am running on rhvm 4.1 build 4, host, engine and VM all are rhel 7.3, agent version is ovirt-guest-agent-common-1.0.13-2.el7ev.noarch. Has anyone encounter this issue ?
