Hi, I have a VM which acts as an oVirt host with VDSM installed. I use it for testing without connecting it to Engine. Hi oVirt Team, Reading the API docs http://ovirt.github.io/ovirt-engine-api-model/4.3/#services/external_vm_imp… http://ovirt.github.io/ovirt-engine-api-model/4.3/#types/external_vm_provid… and ovirt_vm module https://docs.ansible.com/ansible/latest/collections/ovirt/ovirt/ovirt_vm_mo… I see support for - kvm - vmware - XEN In the oVirt web GUI (4.3) there is under compute -> VM -> import -> source options for: - kvm - vmware - XEN - Virtual Appliance OVA I'm trying to import an OVA that sits on the file system on the oVirt node. Via the GUI selecting Virtual Appliance OVA does the job. Is the API missing this functionality or am I missing something?

Python - Unsupported Version Detected: This is on the websocket proxy. Is it possible to use python3 on websocket proxy? 2. Cannot install latest oVirt engine

noVNC not working when FIPS is enabled

Hi, we had to disable VNC OST test some time ago because it started failing. I looked at why it fails and the reason provided by ovirt-websocket-proxy is do_vencrypt_handshake:187 Server supports the following subtypes: 263 Server does not support X509VNC. OvirtProxy only supports X509VNC This happens only when FIPS is enabled and is reproducible outside OST. The only thing that seems to have influence on whether it works or not is the value of `fips' kernel command line parameter -- when it's changed to fips=0 then noVNC console works without any other changes. So it looks like some change in QEMU. I'm not an expert in this area and don't know what those protocols are about, why the proxy supports only X509VNC and why the mismatch in expectations on both the ends happens when FIPS is enabled. Can anybody help clarify it and provide an idea how to resolve the problem? Thanks, Milan

Hello! We're started the upgrade one of our oVirt clusters to the recent 4.4 minor version (4.4.8.5-1.el8) and we found a bug in the recent change of the aaa-ldap plugin. This bug came along after the IPv4/IPv6 selection introduced in ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-ldap 1.4.4 We've dig down in the rabbit hole, and it looks like, our DNS solution is just not compatible with the plugin after this commit: https://github.com/oVirt/ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-ldap/commit/4c0f2e72df8… I don't know, how the industry actually use CNAME records, but we have a rule, that we use independet DNS names for services, and machines itself. This become handy, when you migrate/upgrade services, like LDAP to another machine, and I think, this should be supported. Our LDAP server service domain is actually ldap-master.niif.hu and ldap.niif.hu, but in real, there are two servers, which actually have their own FQDNs. The actual DNS structure: host -t CNAME ldap-master.niif.hu ldap-master.niif.hu is an alias for elm.niif.hu. host -t CNAME ldap.niif.hu ldap.niif.hu is an alias for holly.ldap.einfra.hu. host elm.niif.hu elm.niif.hu has address 193.225.14.175 elm.niif.hu has IPv6 address 2001:738:0:701::3 host holly.ldap.einfra.hu holly.ldap.einfra.hu has address 193.224.92.6 holly.ldap.einfra.hu has IPv6 address 2001:738:0:431::6 The commit above (as far as I understand) only tries to resolve A and AAAA records in DNS, and drop the connection if it not found. Of course, the certificate only have ldap-master and ldap.niif.hu in it, so using holly end elm does not solve the problem (also, if the service will be migrated, the service domain will be kept, but not the machine's FQDN, since we cannot afford to shut down one of our LDAP server for a migration windows. We've tried to downgrade the package to 1.4.3, which is works fine. Hi Everyone, TL;DR: From now on please use a Google account if you need to log in to jenkins.ovirt.rog Longer version: We're using Jenkins CI for oVirt and most content does not need authentication - this does not change. Some workflows such as manual job runs do need sign-in and up until now a local user database was used for that. It was inconvenient and not did not meet modern security standards. To improve the situation we're moving to Google OAuth. It works similarly to what we already have on gerrit.ovirt.org and other services. Existing user accounts were migrated so all permissions should be retained. Job results will be available without sign-in just as they did before. vdsm pylint runs don't report some errors

Hi, When I ran vdsm linters in my local environment, I received errors such as: ` lib/vdsm/storage/lvm.py:1837:14: E1120: No value for argument 'rc' in constructor call (no-value-for-parameter)` On inspection of the CI logs from other runs, we found an internal Pylint error[1]. It appears that this error prevents Pylint from working properly. As a result of bumping up pylint version in order to overcome this error, we got the same errors as in my local environment [2], and another error that seems to be a false positive: `lib/vdsm/storage/volumemetadata.py:101:29: E1102: validate is not callable (not-callable)` We don't have a path in the tests that would reach the code part that raises the problematic exception[3], but it seems legit. any suggestions? self hosted engine installation stucks in "run engine-setup with answerfile"

Hi, I'm building ovirt-engine and ovirt-engine-appliance rpm on CentOS8. But when I install ovirt using "hosted-engine --deploy" command using local repository that contains the rpms, the installation always stucks in "run engine-setup with answerfile". oVirt 4.3 -> 4.4 upgrade and Self hosted HE storage migration

Hy! I've just finished the process in the subject, and want to share a few things with others, and also want to ask a question. Long story "short" (it's my IT infra@home, I've oVirt in bigger setups at work): I had 3 machines before: two desktop, and one Dell R710 server. One of the desktop running FreeNAS with an SSD RAID1, the other desktop and my Dell machine was my two hypervisors. Luckily, i've just got two HP DL380 G6, which become my hypervisors, and my Dell machine became the TrueNAS storage (redundant PSU, more core, more RAM, more disk :) ). When I started the procedure, I used the latest oVirt 4.3, but it was the time to upgrade the version, and also want to migrage all my Data (with the self hosted engine too) to the TrueNAS Dell machine (but... I've only have the two SSD on my old FreeNAS, so it has to be moved) After I replaced the hypervisors, and migrated all my VM data to the new storage to new disks (iSCSI->iSCSI, live and cold storage migration) it was the time, to shut off the FreeNAS, and start the HE redeploy. The main steps, what I take: - Undeployed the hosted-engine from the host with ID: 2 (the ID came from hosted-engine --vm-status command, the machine name is: Jupiter) - Moved all my VMs to this host, only the HE remained on the machine with ID: 1 (name: Saturn) - Removed the remained stuff with: "hosted-engine --clean-metadata --host-id=2 --force-clean", so the Saturn was the only machine capable of running the HE - Set Global maintenance mode=true - Stop the ovirt-engine in the old HE machine - Create a backup with "engine-backup --mode=backup --file=engine.backup --log=engine-backup.log" and copy it to an another machine (my desktop actually) - "hosted-engine --vm-shutdown" - Saturn shutdown, 4.4.6 installer in (it was written to DVD before, don't want to create another) Saturn complete reinstall. - FreeNAS shutdown, SSD moved to TrueNAS, RAID 1/zVol create, iSCSI export... - After the base network was created, and the backup was moved back to the new Saturn, I started the new host deploy with: "hosted-engine --deploy --restore-from-file=engine.backup" Catch 1 and 2: If you do this, you must know the old DC and the Cluster name! write it down somewhere! or you need to get out the PSQL dbs from the backup, and extract from it... (like i had to) The process goes almost flawless, but at some point, I've got a deployment error (code: 519) which tells me, the Saturn have missing networks, and I can connect to https://saturn.mope.local:6900/ovirt-engine Catch 3: this URL not worked, since it was not the HE's URL, and I cannot login because the FQDN checking... This may need some further improvement ;) After some thinking, finally I've made a socks proxy with SSH (1080 forwarded to Saturn) and I was able to login to the locally running HE and make the network changes, which was required to continue the deploy process... Also (since the old FreeNAS box was on my desk, the HE and the two hypervisor was unable to connect to my old SSD iSCSI, so I have to remove it... (cannot put on maintenance, but I was able to delete it from Storage->Domains tab) After this, Saturn came up, got the "green arrow", so I removed the lock file which the deploy give me, and the deploy continued... After this, I selected the new SSD RAID1 on my Dell iSCSI box, and the deploy was finally able to copy the HE to the iSCSI, so far so good :) Finally, I've got my new 4.4.6 setup, with Self hosted HE on my new TrueNAS@Dell. (and all my VMs running on Jupiter at this time, without any errors) The next step was to live migrate off Jupiter to Saturn, DVD in, Jupiter remove from the Cluster, and reinstall to 4.4.6, and readd Jupiter (this time, with HE deployed again) After I've put back Jupiter, and made the required initial setup with the network (VLANs pulled to the bonds, iSCSI IPs set, etc) the cluster was up and running. The next step was to upgrade the hypervisors to the latest image with rolling update, it was worked as before, so the time come to move the cluster and DC compatilbility level from 4.3 -> 4.6... This forced me to reboot all my VMs, as it written when I made this change, but this worked too. At last: I've restarted the HE with hosted-engine --vm-shutdown / --vm-start, because it has some "!" at the BIOS version... And this is my question actually: after the restart, the BIOS version of the HE machine remained the old one, and still have the "!" which states: "The chipset/firmware type doen not match the cluster chipset/firmware type" Doen anyone know, how can the HE BIOS updated after compatibility leve increase? Sorry, if my mail should be goes to the users list, but because of "Catch 3" I think is's better here.
