oVirt site
by Livnat Peer
Hi,
I reviewed the documents on the site and it looks great.
Here are some comments i have on the different documents:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Becoming a maintainer -
A very good document.
typos:
- "(More on joining the board here …)" - add a
link to the board doc
- " to some projects that to others " - s/that/than
- "or to be become a maintainer" - remove the 'be'
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Adding a sub-project -
- I think the title should be "Adding a project" to be consistent with
the rest of the docs on the site.
typo:
- "In addition the board my vote" - s/my/may
- "theoVirt" - the oVirt
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Voting -
1. If the R-T-C policy is in effect the document says that +1 means
‘I have tested this patch myself, and found it good.’.
I find this requirement to be too strict. I think that testing a patch
is the responsibility of the patch submitter and reviewing a patch
should not require actual testing.
I suggest the following instead -
For me reviewing a patch (+1 for a patch) means:
- The patch make sense
- The patch follows the project standards (e.g. code format)
- The patch takes into account the different aspects/components of the
project
- The patch does not changes any core behavior or introduces new
concepts that were not discussed in the mailing list beforehand.
If the reviewer wants to test the patch or thinks additional testing is
needed then he better do so but i would not go and set that as a
requirement.
2. The document says that a three +1 votes are required for a pass.
In the context of patch approval that requirement might be an overkill.
I am looking at the engine project as an example there are a lot of
patches a day, large part of them are not too complicated and one ack
can be enough for validation.
Requiring 3 acks can slow the development and i am not sure it is
justified/needed.
I suggest that by default a patch should require only one ack. If a
patch introduces a major change or new concepts the patch submitter
should mark the patch as such and ask for 3 acks. In addition if a patch
reviewer thinks a patch has some level of complexity he can also ask the
patch to have 3 acks before approval.
This approach can also contribute for Developing and Maturing projects
which do not have the needed resources to deal with 3 acks for each patch.
typos:
- "majour" - s/majour/major
- The title "Vetos" is lost in the Votes on releases section.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Board -
typo:
- "with 10 or more resource" - s/resource/resources
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks, Livnat

Almost ready to go public
by Carl Trieloff
I have updated the website, the PDF invitation and the e-mail
invitation. Please take a quick look and see if my last pass through fix
ups are good.
I have shortened the tease on the e-mail invite a little and posted it
in addition to the PDF on the resources page:
http://lists.ovirt.org/project/resources/
The site has been updated with logistics. If we are all good, I'll sync
with Ralf and we can start turning it public later today.
Mail out any issues, thx.
kind regards
Carl.

project matrix
by Karsten Wade
I'm looking at http://lists.ovirt.org/project/subprojects/ and
thinking about a few things.
* Each of the project names currently is not a link. We could have a
single, mostly static landing page for each subproject
e.g. ovirt.org/projectname (which can be nested in the menus, too.)
It's easy to give a wide range of people 'writer' access in the
website framework so people can edit their own subproject page
at-will.
If that makes sense, I'll go ahead and create the pages then link
them in to the matrix. Carl - we can also link them in to the
drop-down navigation to make it easier to get to a subproject from
anywhere on the site.
* We could drop the link to archives 'arc' entirely and rely upon the
link that is on the mailing list page. I don't recall seeing many
instances of a matrix e.g. jboss.org or eclipse.org having deep
links to each list's archives.
* We could also drop the link that is a mailto: call since nearly all
these lists will require subscription to post.
* Then just have one link 'devel' etc., or even have
listname(a)ovirt.org just be a link to the Mailman page.
* Partially because of the way the matrix looks, it does make the
'devel' name very busy, and I understand that as one of the reasons
Carl prefers arch(a)ovirt.org as the "main project core technical and
schedule discussions list." The name for this list I had orginally
down as devel(a)ovirt.org. Is that going to be too difficult if every
subproject is also subproject-devel(a)ovirt.org?
Anyway, we can just link to this overall list above the matrix.
* For maintainer names, it will be nice to link to a wiki user page
for each person. I'll be sure to detail how to do that on the wiki,
offer up some templates, etc.

* Draft workshop invite (review)
* Invite date: Sept. 19th
* Website
* Website is live - will start moving stuff into website and depart
from the google docs space.
* Companies strategically supporting oVirt - thinking of putting
groups' logos in
* Companies supporting initiative, but not stepped up from a Board
perspective - start collecting their logos on the lower half of the page?
* Do we want to start this page at the workshop, or now, and fill it
out more towards the workshop?
* Bottom half could be difficult - hard to vet who the interest is
without them being firmly committed. Might choose to omit second half.
* Governance docs
* Infrastructure / mailing lists will be getting created through the
end of the week
* Do a go/no-go on Monday, and hopefully send out the invite for the

locations, etc.
* Twitter hashtag info: #ovirt
* Carl will talk to OVA folks, etc. on Monday, once we go live.
* When we've spoken to someone - fire a mail off to planning list.
* Can we use OVA for buzz? Doesn't hit tech community as much, but
could create buzz.
* Could do a press release with OVA on day of invite - and then have
oVirt have their own press release post-workshop.
* OVA has a weekly meeting - could be contacted.
* We should send at least the core information to the OVA membership
- details for the workshop, etc.
* Should take a matter of a few days to do PR with OVA.
* Robyn / Karsten to subscribe everyone on-list to board list - board
list will be public, planning list will still be private.

new oVirt website
by Karsten Wade
There is a new oVirt project website in staging, and kept private for
now:
http://lists.ovirt.org
username: ovirtstaging
password: 1zGn48XEZPHFe
For the content discussed here and from the Google Doc, the new
canonical location for that is the website.
Here is the work still to be done:
* The header graphic needs an update that is relevant to oVirt. It
should be 990x180 pixels. Do you have any designers available to
help with this? (Resulting work under ASL 2.0.)
- Maybe we need a new logo?
* The subproject matrix needs fixing - information, content updates,
and making it prettier/clearer. If anyone has CSS expertise, we can
probably make a quick fix to the site CSS for that.
* Figure out final hosting arrangements, which can be discussed
with the infrastructure team
(http://lists.ovirt.org/mailman/listinfo/infra.)
* Creation of remaining mailing lists.
* Finish of MediaWiki installation, configuration, and initial
population of wiki content - how to write pages, how to use for
subprojects, etc.
* Write up some procedures for how to manage content, add News/Events
items, and so forth to the main website.
As you look over the site, keep these things in mind:
* We'll start using @ovirt soon, it's a blank feed until then.
* RSS feed for "News" on the right may break due to site
authentication.
* Some mailing lists are not live yet.
* If you see a problem, bug, content missing or needing improving,
etc. - bring that discussion here, but you can also take a new user
account and help us fix it directly, just ask.
Thanks - Karsten
